    American character actor from the New York stage, born Leo Mielziner, the son of a noted rabbi. He appeared on Broadway and also directed plays himself. Having changed his name to Kenneth MacKenna, he became a director for Fox upon signing a contract in 1929. He later became a story editor at MGM. He was married to actresses Kay Francis and Mary Phillips.
