Image
Keanu Reeves and his band Dogstar are headed back to the Los Angeles concert stage. The group is set to headline the 1,100-capacity Regent Theater downtown on Friday, July 18. A ticket presale is on now at Ticketmaster.

So far it’s the only show listed on the band’s website, which touts the trio’s 2023 album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees. Watch lyric videos for Dogstar’s “Everything Turns Around” and “Glimmer” below.

Reeves plays bass for the group, which formed in the early 1990s with Gregg Miller on guitar and vocals and Rob Mailhouse on drums. Guitarist and singer Bret Domrose joined in 1994, and the group recorded an EP and toured before Miller left in 1995. Now a trio, its debut album, Our Little Visionary, came out in 1996. Sophomore disc Happy Ending arrived in 2000, but the band split in 2002.

All 18 Keanu Reeves Movies From The 1990s, Ranked
Image
Keanu Reeves has been acting since the 1980s, and has given the world great performances in the realm of action, adventure, drama, and even comedy. It's rare for someone whose most prolific catchphrase is "Whoah" to be able to show so much emotional depth in a wide range of roles. Reeves is known not to take himself too seriously while still being able to take on very serious roles.

The 1990s were a very rich decade for Keanu Reeves' best films, which saw him star in action-packed blockbusters like Speed, emotional indie films like My Own Private Idaho, and ensemble pieces like Bram Stoker's Dracula. His star was on the rise throughout that tumultuous time of growth, and he's been an unwavering part of pop culture ever since. While Reeves has a very stoic approach to acting, with some criticizing his limited range, it's that brooding calmness that makes...

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. Extraordinary production design by Dante Ferretti and another evocative,...

Exclusive: Dread Central Invades the 2010 Streamy Awards: Ghostfacers Update! Fear Clinic Coverage!
On a windy, overcast Sunday afternoon the 2010 Streamy Awards took over the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Even though the FearNet webseries “Fear Clinic,” directed by Robert Hall and starring genre favorites Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Danielle Harris, and Lisa Wilcox, stood alone to represent our favorite genre, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a gaggle of horror-related goodies to indulge in while working the red carpet event before the show.

Before the Streamy Awards were under way, Dread Central’s red carpet team of Heather Wixson and Brian Smith had the opportunity to catch up with some new faces in horror as well as some of the genre’s most beloved personalities.

Since we never want to deprive our readers of any sort of awesomeness, Dread Central has cooked up two videos from the Streamy Awards red carpet event. The first video is chock-full of interviews.

Streamys 2010 Nominees Announced
The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.

This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.

The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

‘Easy to Assemble’ Season 2 Premieres with ‘Sparhusen’ Rock
Last night's Los Angeles premiere of Easy to Assemble season 2 was everything you would expect in a sophomore debut—bigger, brasher and beaming. For the gawkers on Hollywood Blvd. peering onto the red carpet outside the Egyptian Theater, most probably thought they were scoping out a movie premiere as stars like Keanu Reeves, Kevin Pollack, Justine Bateman and Harry Shearer casually strolled past the check-in tables with cameras flashing. The new season of the Ikea backed web series, which kicks off today, is a classic season long face-off. Picking up essentially were things left off last season, Illeana Douglas and Justine Bateman both still work at the Burbank Ikea store, playing themselves "in between acting jobs." The rivalry of the two celeb employees squares off around the coveted Co-worker of the Year title, the retail equivalent of queen bee. It's a 40 year-old's Blair vs. Serena. For the dozens of...

Illeana Douglas talks about new Web series 'Sparhusen' (featuring Keanu Reeves)
Illeana Douglas and the Web go together about as well as the Swedish and meatballs. After all, the quirky actress has found a following online with her Ikea-set comedy series, Easy to Assemble, which starts its second season on My Damn Channel today. (Douglas plays a fictional version of herself who, fed up with showbiz, decides to work in an Ikea store.) And that’s not all: The actress is hard at work producing a spin-off Web series, Sparhusen, which follows a Swedish band that plays music for the big box store. Not only have we snagged a sneak peek of the series (premiering Oct.

Keanu Reeves ‘Sparhusen’ Headlines My Damn Channel’s Fall Lineup
There's a lot of news to digest here, so let's start with the highlights: Keanu Reeves is starring in a web series. It's called Spärhusen and is actually a spin-off of Ikea-backed Easy to Assemble. It's part of a 7-show slate of web series from My Damn Channel premiering October 8, 2009. You know the medium is growing up when we get news of not only another A-lister headlining a web series, but the fact that it's a spinoff of another web series. Keanu Reeves is starring in Spärhusen, a spinoff series about fictional Swedish rock band of the same name that despite oozing musical talent, never quite hit the Abba level. It actually came out of an episode of Easy to Assemble from last season. For the first season, Spärhusen is basically a Behind the Music look at the "in-studio tensions" from the recording sessions of the band’s 1972 single "Apples & Fish.

Marti Noxon in I Am Number Four (2011)
Film review: 'A Little Harmless Sex'
Marti Noxon in I Am Number Four (2011)
The title of Rick Rosenthal's comedy-drama is a tip-off that the film, yet another tale of relationship and sexual angst amongst thirtysomething yuppies, is too cute by far.

A talented and good-looking cast do their best to enliven the material, but "Just a Little Harmless Sex" will only have minor appeal to its targeted demographic. One of its more interesting gimmicks is that the women's dialogue was written by a female screenwriter (Marti Noxon), while the men's was written by a male (Roger Mills).

The film centers around a group of friends who are thrown into crisis mode by Alan (Robert Mailhouse) and Laura's (Alison Eastwood) marital division, which is precipitated when he is arrested for having oral sex with a hooker. (It was, of course, a big misunderstanding). Alan and Laura attempt to bury their sorrow by drinking heavily and hanging out with their best friends: he with Danny (Jonathan Silverman), a misogynist divorcee who hits on every woman in sight, and Brent (William Ragsdale), a bachelor who can't seem to perpetuate a relationship; and she with the uninhibited Terrianne (Jessica Lundy), Danny's ex-wife who is embarrassed about her inability to achieve orgasm, and the demure Allison (Kimberly Williams), who harbors secret fantasies of being an exotic dancer.

Mostly taking place during one long evening, "Just a Little Harmless Sex" features the kind of endless, frank kibitzing about sex and relationships that is so prevalent in today's indie films. Its endless talkiness, which includes a fair amount of ribald wit, is occasionally interrupted by such embarrassing sequences as Allison's impromptu striptease at a local bar and Danny and Brent's falling all over themselves trying to score with Laura's sexy mother (the still amazingly beautiful Lauren Hutton).

The film is most effective when it stays on the lighter side of its subject; when it attempts to dig deeper into the complexities of male and female relationships, the results are less insightful than mawkish.
