David Man(I)

David Man brings a special insight to his work as a director and teacher, based on his own multi-level experience in Show Business. His long career has encompassed every form of theatrical presentation.

Mr. Man recently returned after 5 years, working in Australia. He was affiliated with T.A.F.T.A. (The Australian Film and Television Acadamy) and taught both acting and American Dialect classes for actors planning to work in America. He also presented sold out Master Classes and Seminars, in Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast as well as appearing in 3 Australian films and producing and directing his own short film, "Quantum Shorty" which was named Audience Favorite at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.

Mr. Man is an award winning director, writer and actor, as well as an experienced casting director and a highly respected teacher and coach. He has been primary acting teacher to such prominent actors and singers as: Two time Academy Award nominee, Mary McDonnell (Battle Star Gallacta, Dances With Wolves, ETC.) and Susan Stroman (Acadamy Award winner (The Producers) and 5 time Tony Award winner), Sharon Lawrence, Natasha Gregson-Wagner, Debora Jo Rupp (That 70s Show, Better With You), Liam McIntyre (The new Spartacus), Lenka Peterson (Tony Award nominee and Emmy Award winner), Jeff Fahey (Silverado, Lawnmower Man) Etc.) Alexandra Paul (Bay Watch, Christine, etc.), Helen Donath (Leading Soprano, Metropolitan Opera, La Scala,Vienna, Berlin and Paris Opera), Janet Williams (Berlin Stadtsoper, Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, San Francisco Opera, etc.), Marni Nixon (Tony Award nominee, three time Emmy winner and famous "ghost singing voice of the stars"--Natalie Wood, Deborah Kerr and Audrey Hepburn, to name a few).

David Man has directed well over 200 productions ranging from Edward Albee and Neil Simon to classical drama. His work as an opera and concert director has taken him from Munich to Los Angeles for engagements including: The AKi Festival (Cleveland), the Webern/Varese Centennial (L.A.), the American premieres of JohnTavener's "A Gentle Spirit"; Peter Maxwell Davies' "Miss Donnothorne's Maggot", "The Juggler Of Notre Dame" as well as the world premier of the first fully staged performance of "Eight Songs For A Mad King".

David was director in residence for Arthur Kopits' N.Y.U. Playwrights' Development Program in N.Y.C., as well as director of Dramatic Specials for National Public Radio (KPFK) in Los Angeles.

Mr. Man directed the famous production of the legendary Viveca Lindfors' one-woman show," Anna" for which he won critical raves. He created and directed "Mixed Nuts" (A record-breaking engagement at The Ballroom in N.Y.C.) as well as the Los Angeles productions of "Hollywood Follies." He is recipient of three coveted ASCAP Awards for his critically acclaimed New York productions "Adults Only, No Pets" and "Soap," which was produced at The Lion Theatre on Manhattan's Theatre Row, plus three Los Angeles Dramalogue awards for the HBO production of his show, "Out On A Whim", starring Cindy Benson.

Additionally, David has been guest star in many television episodes and Movies of the Week, as well as serving as dialogue director on many films including: "The Bushido Blade" ((James Earl Jones, Toshiro Mifune) "The Ivory Ape" (Jack Palance) "Scanners 3: The New Order", and "Live Wire" (for which he also doubled as personal coach to Pierce Brosnan.)

Mr. Man was casting director for the CBS Daytime Drama "Search For Tomorrow," as well as Senior Staff Instructor at The Weist-Barron Television School in New York City. He is Artistic Director of Artists Production Ensemble and one of the most sought after acting coaches and directors in New York and L.A.
