10 Grey's Anatomy Characters You Totally Forgot About
Image
Grey's Anatomy is widely celebrated throughout the world and is often regarded as one of the best medical dramas ever created. Since premiering in 2005, the show has presented a ton of interesting characters, all of whom have their own alluring backstories and secrets. As such, it's apparent that Grey's Anatomy is more about people rather than complex medical cases.

But, with so many seasons under its belt, some characters fade into obscurity. Whether they were fired for malpractice or were just written out of the next storyline, the show does have a tendency to sweep certain figures under the rug. Thus, even the most devoted fans sometimes struggle to remember the characters of the past.

Merediths Love Interest Eventually Fizzled Out William Thorpe

Despite only really working on one patient, William Thorpe certainly made a good impression, especially with Meredith Grey. As a Surgical Oncologist with the Bauer Army Medical Center,...

Starz is canceling four of its series, Variety has learned exclusively. Specifically, “Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” will not get new seasons at the cable network, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” Season 1 is being scrapped without airing.

“Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” all recently aired their second season at Starz, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” was in production on its first season. Production was shut down, however, at the onset of the WGA strike. It was reported at the time that only two episodes of the first season were left to shoot.

“The Venery of Samantha Bird” was to star Katherine Langford as the title character. Per the official logline, “Samantha, while visiting family in New England, reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But the couple’s picture-perfect love story isn’t as sweet as it seems on the surface.

‘King Shaka’ Series Not Moving Forward at Showtime
Image
The Showtime limited series “King Shaka” is no longer moving forward at the premium cabler, Variety has confirmed.

The series tells the story of the titular Zulu king, who will be played by Charles Babalola. According to an individual with knowledge of the production, filming had been mostly completed on the historical epic series and Showtime and producer CBS Studios plan to shop it to other outlets.

This marks the latest completed series to be moved off Showtime as the network prepares to be merged with Paramount+. The drama “Three Women” recently left Showtime only to be picked up by Starz. Likewise, “Ripley” starring Andrew Scott moved to Netflix after originally being ordered at Showtime.

“King Shaka” was originally ordered to series in 2021. Along with Babalola, the cast for the series includes Thapelo Mokoenaas, Warren Masemola, Aïssa Maïga, Thando DIomo, Charmaine Bingwa, and Nkeki Obi-Melekwe.

‘King Shaka’ Event Series Not Going Forward At Showtime, Expected To Be Shopped
Image
Exclusive: Showtime has axed King Shaka, its upcoming epic drama series executive produced by Antoine Fuqua, which tells the sweeping story of the Zulu Empire founder.

It marks the latest new series to be canned at the network before it has aired amid a programming overhaul at Showtime, which is being merged with sister streamer Paramount+ and will be renamed as Paramount+ with Showtime.

While King Shaka will not run on Showtime, the premium network is working on multiple other drama projects with diverse storytelling as part of recently announced three main programming lanes, including a project from The Chi showrunner Justin Hillian; Panda, from Fresh Off the Boat’s Eddie Huang; and Quiet in Her Bones, from writer Aminta Goyel.

Showtime also plans to add diversity to the Billions franchise as it is undergoing expansion with spinoffs.

Deadline understands that King Shaka, which is being headlined by Charles Babalola,...

‘American Gigolo,’ ‘Let the Right One In’ Canceled at Showtime Ahead of Paramount+ Merger
Image
Ahead of the Showtime and Paramount+ merger, Paramount Global is cleaning house. “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In,” two drama series that premiered last year, have been canceled at the channel, IndieWire has confirmed.

In addition, Showtime will no longer be proceeding with the series “Three Women,” starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, and Gabrielle Creevy. The series, which finished principal production, will be shopped to other outlets, and “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In” are also reportedly being shopped.

Paramount Global announced the integration of Showtime into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear television on January 30, revealing it will occur “later this year.” Rather than just offering Showtime on the Paramount+ app, Showtime Ott and Showtime linear will be rebranded to “Paramount+ with Showtime,” and the Showtime Ott and Anytime apps will be shut down, IndieWire is told. Showtime was previously made available on...

Demián Bichir in Let the Right One In (2022)
Showtime Cancels “Let the Right One In” as the Network Gets Folded into Paramount+
Demián Bichir in Let the Right One In (2022)
After just one season that aired late last year, Showtime has already made the decision to cancel the horror series “Let the Right One In,” Deadline is reporting this afternoon.

Tomorrow Studios, Deadline notes, will be shopping the series to other platforms. In other words, “Let the Right One In” could eventually come back to life on another platform.

Deadline adds to the story, “Paramount Global just announced that Showtime will be integrated into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear later this year.”

“Let the Right One In” is a victim of this impending merger, the site notes.

A new adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel, which became Swedish movie Let the Right One In in 2008 and then American remake Let Me In a couple years later, Showtime‘s “Let the Right One In” began streaming in time for Halloween on Friday, October 7, 2022.

Showtime Not Proceeding With ‘Three Women’, Cancels ‘Let The Right One In’ & ‘American Gigolo’ Amid Consolidation With Paramount+
Image
Exclusive: Paramount Global just announced that Showtime will be integrated into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear later this year. In preparation for the move, the premium cable network, which will be renamed as Paramount+ with Showtime, had been re-evaluating its programming slate over the past several weeks under its new top executive Chris McCarthy.

As a result, Showtime will not be proceeding with new series Three Women, starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, which has been completed. The drama has been quietly shopped by its producers, and I hear there has been interest, with at least one offer on the table.

Let the Right One In TV Review
Image
Plot: Inspired by the original hit Swedish novel and film, the series centers on Mark (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez), whose lives were changed 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive.

Review: It is amazing to me that in the 18 years since the titular novel was released, we are about to get our third version of Let the Right One In. After the acclaimed Swedish film in 2008 and Matt Reeves’ well-received remake two years later, Showtime’s take on the vampire story by John Ajvide Lindqvist deviates the most from the source material to create a unique blend of the narrative you may be familiar with combined with conventions of many other television shows.

Rooted in actual events, King Shaka tells the story of the Zulu Empire founder Shaka (Babalola) and his unlikely rise to power, uniting multiple tribes across vast stretches of Africa in the early 19th century to transform his power into legend, on par with history’s most seminal figures. The outcast son of a Zulu Chief, Shaka is a visionary who is prophesized to become a king like none before him. In ferocious battles that test the body and soul, in alliances that test the bonds of love and friendship, a complex sociological system plays out that renders the human cost front and center, for the victors as well as the vanquished,...

Welcome to My Favorite Moment! In a new week-long series IndieWire spoke to the actors behind just a few of our favorite television performances of the year about how the onscreen moment they are most proud of came together.

The Starz adaptation of the 2018 feature film “Blindspotting” is one of the most audacious and thought-provoking series on television, led by the astoundingly capable Jasmine Cephas Jones. Reprising her role as Ashley from the feature, the series sees Cephas Jones play a woman struggling to raise her young son in the wake of her boyfriend Miles’ (Rafael Casal) recent incarceration.

The show’s blend of humor and social commentary has led to several beautiful and unique moments, including Ashley’s numerous spoken word verses to the camera, a crazy trip on mushrooms, and a date between Ashley and her subconscious version of Miles that’s totally romantic. But for Cephas Jones,...

Lesli Linka Glatter
Director Lesli Linka Glatter was elected President of the Directors Guild of America at the union’s National Biennial Convention in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Glatter replaced Thomas Schlamme, who was guild president for the last four years.

Glatter has been on the Guild’s National Board since 2003, most recently as First Vice-President, and before that as Fifth Vice-President. Let The Right One In Will Get Remade Once More, With Demián Bichir-Led Showtime Show

The story follows the relationship between a young girl and her father and the course their lives take after she is turned into a vampire. Seith Mann (of television’s Homecoming) is set to direct the pilot, which was written by Andrew Hinderaker (Penny Dreadful).

Bichir is no stranger to the TV landscape or to the Showtime family, having previously been a recurring star on Weeds and the lead of FX’s crime drama The Bridge.
