Mumbai, April 25 (Ians) Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was feted with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his remarkable contributions to the field of cinema, has expressed his gratitude for the honour.

Amitabh took to X (formerly called Twitter) and shared a picture of himself receiving the award from Usha Mangeshkar, sister of the late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

“Aabhaar aur mera param saubhagya,” he wrote in the caption.

Actor Randeep Hooda, actress Padmini Kolhapure, and music composer A.R. Rahman were also seen sharing the stage with Amitabh, who received the honour on the memorial day of Deenanath Mangeshkar, the theatre-music veteran and father of the Mangeshkar siblings.

Rahman was also feted with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his contributions to the field of music, along with Randeep, Ashok Saraf, and playback singer Roopkumar Rathod.

Mumbai, April 24 (Ians) It was an evening worth remembering as many distinguished artistes from the Hindi, Marathi, and Tamil film industries were honoured at the 3rd Late Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony in Mumbai’s Vile Parle area on Wednesday.

Veteran Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan was feted with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his exemplary contributions to the field of cinema in a career spanning over five decades and running.

Bachchan, 81, received the award on the memorial day of Deenanath Mangeshkar, the theatre-music veteran and the father of the Mangeshkar siblings. Singer Usha Mangeshkar, the third eldest of the Mangeshkar siblings, presented the award to Bachchan.

The song ‘Lag Jaa Gale’ was played as he accepted the award in the presence of fellow dignitaries on the stage.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan shall be conferred the ‘Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar’ at a function scheduled here on April 24, while music maestro A. R. Rahman shall be bestowed the ‘Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award,’ next week, the organisers said.

The award is given by the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratisthan, Pune, nurtured by the eminent Mangeshkar family, and shall be given away to Bachchan on his 82nd death anniversary, along with a musical tribute.

Earlier, the inaugural award was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi (2022), followed by veteran singer Asha Bhosale (2023), for their path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contributions to the country, its people and society.

Besides Bachchan and Rahman, the other prominent awardees in different categories are: ‘Ghalib’ as Best Marathi Play of the Year, Ngo Deepstambh Foundation Manobal of Jalgaon, litterateur Manjiri Phadke, comedian Ashok Saraf, actress Padmini Kolhapure, singer Roopkumar Rathod, journalist S. Mumbai, Feb 6 (Ians) On the first death anniversary of the legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar’s family on Monday urged that the upcoming Mumbai Coastal Road Project should be named in her memory.

The plea was gently voiced on behalf of the clan by veteran singer Usha Mangeshkar on the occasion of the foundation stone laying ceremony for Lata Didi’s memorial at Haji Ali Chowk.

“We are very pleased that the memorial is coming up here… Its quite close to our home, Prabhu Kunj. The Maharashtra government and the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation are working on it and it will be ready soon. We want it (the road) to be named in memory of Lata Didi,” she said.

Legendary Bollywood singer Lata Mangeshkar, “the Nightingale of India,” died Sunday at the age of 92. The prolific voice behind Indian film and devotional songs had been battling a Covid-19 infection since early January in the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, Times of India reports.

While it was reported that Mangeshkar had shown signs of recovery last week and was taken off ventilator support, her condition was critical by February 5th. The artist was responding to “aggressive therapy” for a while, according to hospital authorities at Breach Candy.

Filmmaker-actor Nandita Das on Wednesday mourned the loss of legendary music director Shantanu Mohapatra, saying it is a pity that amazing artistes like him go unnoticed.

The actress took to Twitter to express her views.

Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who has featured in the video of the recreated version of "Mungda" song, says that makers repackage iconic songs for the current generation.

Her latest dance number "Mungda" for the film Total Dhamaal has earned the wrath of the fans of the original number featuring Helen.

Mumbai, Nov 28: Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar has launched her own music label L.M. Music with an album of bhajans. Lata has sung along with younger sister Usha for the new album.

The two sisters have sang a number of hit songs in the 1950s and 1960s like "Apalam chaplam" ("Azad"), "Kis kaaran kamini sharmaye" ("Chandan Ka Palna)" and "Bahe jaiye na rani" ("Sabse Bada Rupaiya").

The new album has bhajans dedicated to Swami Samarth of Akkalkot.

"It is always a pleasure to sing with Usha. She's a fine singer in her own right. We've come together again because of the solemnity of the occasion, Swami Samarth is.

According to Pti, official statements have been taken from Asha's sister Usha Mangeshkar, the family maid Dipali Mane and the driver Vijay, who discovered Varsha's body at her home in a pool of blood on Monday, October 8. "Close family members have not been questioned yet since they are still in a state of shock," said an inspector from Gamdevi police station. "Asha Bhosle was inconsolable. Hence her lawyer, who was present at the residence, asked us to wait for her son's arrival before starting the process of recording statements." New Delhi, April 6: TV actress Usha Nadkarni, popular for playing a sweet-and-sour mother-in-law in "Pavitra Rishta", will now play a 'sutradhar' (narrator) for a weekend special of "Kairi - Rishta Khatta Meetha".

"Kairi...", aired on Colors, is a story of the clash between a tyrant mother-in-law Imarti Devi (Hema Singh) and a loving, yet rebellious daughter-in-law Ambi (Preeti Chaudhary).

Usha, a veteran in the industry, will be seen narrating a recap of the week on the weekend special -- "Kahani Ab Tak" of the show.
