The Rhd in Bosch, Explained
Image
Bosch is one of the most captivating and critically acclaimed police procedural dramas. The Prime Video series follows LAPD Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch, played by the talented Titus Welliver, who works in the Hollywood Homicide Division. Harry Bosch is a fictional character created by author Michael Connelly, who has appeared in over twenty of Connelly's novels. Michael Connelly's fictional world features multiple characters that share the same intricate universe. And as many Bosch fans know, Rhd is a big part of that universe.

Rhd is heavily mentioned throughout Bosch's seven seasons. Within the Hollywood Homicide division, Rhd detectives are venerated, envied, and some even disliked. Harry himself has a hard time working with Rhd, having a few run-ins with David Marciano's Detective Brad Conniff. Rhd plays a bigger role in Bosch Season 4 when Harry has to investigate detectives from Rhd regarding the murder of a prominent defense attorney. Yet...

"It Was Sacrilegious": Why The Shield Almost Didnt Air After 9/11 Recalled By Walton Goggins
Image
The Shield almost didn't air after 9/11 due to its negative portrayal of police officers, but the success of Training Day reassured FX to proceed. The show premiered in March 2002 and became one of the greatest television series of all time, offering a gritty, realistic depiction of law enforcement. Despite concerns about sensitivity, The Shield presented a complex view of law enforcement that resonated with audiences, not conflicting with the heroism of police during 9/11.

Walton Goggins recalls why The Shield almost didn't air after 9/11, saying "it was sacrilegious." Premiered in March 2002, the FX series follows the corrupt police officers who make up an experimental division of the Los Angeles Police Department that works to reduce gang-related crime by using criminal methods themselves. The Shield cast includes Goggins as Detective Shane Vendrell alongside Michael Chiklis, Catherine Dent, Reed Diamond, Michael Jace, Kenny Johnson, Jay Karnes, Benito Martinez, Cch Pounder, Glenn Close, Cathy Cahlin Ryan,...

The Good Doctor Season 7's House Actor Is Great, But It's Too Late For The Cameo We Really Want
Image
The Good Doctor welcomes Peter Jacobson as a new cast member, adding to the exciting crossover appeal with House alumni. Fans can expect Jacobson's guest appearance in Season 7, Episode 2, bringing a unique sense of nostalgia and familiarity to the show. While the possibility of a Hugh Laurie cameo may be slim, The Good Doctor continues to engage audiences with familiar faces from House.

The Good Doctor is adding another House cast member to its ensemble, which is incredible news for audiences that admire both medical dramas. However, in some ways, the news is also a reminder of the fact that it may be too late for another highly-demanded House cameo in The Good Doctor. This makes the arrival of the House star bittersweet, giving audiences mixed feelings of excitement surrounding the new actor's appearance and longing for the one star who may never make a cameo.

In its seven-season runtime,...

'Homeland' Season 3: Carrie and Jess meet and more photo spoilers
Showtime has released a new batch of "Homeland" Season 3 photos, and these images from episode 3 ("Tower of David") through episode 5 ("The Yoga Play") reveal some pretty big spoilers from the upcoming three episodes. If you want to remain spoiler-free, don't read ahead.

When "Uh ... Oh ... Ah ..." ended, Carrie was left drugged up in a mental institution, Saul was on the outs with Senator Lockwood and Brody has been nowhere to be found. It's already been revealed that Brody returns in "Tower of David," but beyond that it looks like "Homeland" is due for some shakeups.

Virgil is back. A photo from episode 4, "Game On," shows that David Marciano's character Virgil makes a reappearance. He's been absent thus far in Season 3, but it looks like he's due for a comeback. Usually Virgil's appearances involve Carrie doing some off-the-radar snooping, so it could be that she's going off the books again.

Homeland Series 3 – Why It Should Be Its Last Season
It is a mantra repeated by many that several of America’s finest series’ have overdone it. Now this has reached a-whole-nother level insofar as a third series of a show is seen as simply establishing the characters with many more expected to come. Some TV shows, such as the once great family comedy The Simpsons – currently on its 24th season – don’t seem to grasp the concept that you can indeed have too much of a good thing.

The first series of Homeland saw a multitude of twists and turns, with each episode as good as the previous edition. The clearly intertwined mixture of narrative strands was well-worked to say the least; the love affair of Brody and Carrie, the tension between David and Saul and the search for Abu Nazir – all were equally as captivating as each other. After 12 episodes of sheer genius, award-worthy acting and enthralling writing,...

Less Of David Marciano’s Virgil For Homeland Season 3
Aww! Say it ain’t so! Actor David Marciano will no longer be a series regular when Homeland‘s Season 3 returns to Showtime.

Marciano has been playing Virgil, Carrie’s “go to” surveillance guy, since the show’s pilot premiered. The former CIA employee went freelance and aside from being able to do work Carrie doesn’t necessarily want to Agency to know about, Virgil is also someone Carrie knows she can trust. Let me tell you, when it comes to National Security, those true blue folks get to be very few, and with Carrie’s mental health being a question, the list shrinks even more.

The character of Virgil was a recurring one during season 1, but was bumped up to a series regular for the last season, which was season 2. I like Virgil. He’s brutally honest when Carrie needs it and he really knows what he’s doing.

Drea de Matteo back on 'Sons of Anarchy'; 'Homeland' loses a regular
Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy" will feature more of Jax's ex-wife, Wendy, whether Jax likes it or not.

Drea de Matteo will reprise her role as Wendy -- whom Jax (Charlie Hunnam) injected heroin into late last year after she threatened his family -- in the coming season, TVLine reports. She's set to appear in several episodes.

Season 5 left off with Tara (Maggie Siff) being arrested as an accessory to murder in Otto's (creator Kurt Sutter) killing of a prison nurse. Perhaps Wendy can lend a hand with the kids?

More TV news and notes:

- David Marciano is no longer part of the regular cast of "Homeland," although he may still recur as Virgil on the show's third season. With Brody (Damian Lewis) now on the run and the storytelling shift that implies, Carrie (Claire Danes) may not need Virgil's surveillance services as much anymore. [Deadline]

Brace Yourself for Less Virgil on Homeland
Claire Danes in Homeland (2011)
Last season's Homeland finale made it pretty clear that some of the characters we'd grown to love and hate wouldn't be returning for next season. But now it appears that list of departing characters is a little longer than we thought: David Marciano's Virgil won't be a regular character anymore, according to Deadline, though he might still appear as a guest star. No Abu Nazir and now no/way less Virgil? Season three of Homeland, check yourself before you wreck yourself.

David Marciano Departs ‘Homeland’ As Regular, Preps Cable Prison Drama
David Marciano
Exclusive: With Brody headed out of the country in the second-season finale of Showtime’s Homeland, Carrie won’t have to rely as heavily on her off-the-books snoop extraordinaire Virgil. David Marciano has played the role since the pilot, recurring in Season 1 and promoted to regular in Season 2. Now I’ve learned the actor won’t return to the Emmy-winning series as a regular next season. though he may still appear on the show as a recurring guest star. Marciano is the second Homeland cast member who won’t continue as regulars on Season 3, alongside Diego Klattenhoff. Three other regulars in Season – David Harewood, Jamie Sheridan and Navid Negahban — are leaving as their characters got killed off. The five shared in Homeland‘s best drama series ensemble SAG nomination this year. The rest of Homeland‘s regular cast, led by Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin, will...

'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' Explores 'Legitimate Rape' Case
Mariska Hargitay in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)
Ripped from headlines has always been a staple of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," but the latest headline ripped was one of its biggest yet. Senatorial candidate Todd Akin used the phrase "legitimate rape" -- saying that victims of that have ways of biologically shutting down their ability to get pregnant -- during his political campaign. In the episode, a congressman was brought in to use that defense in a rape case.

Lauren Cohan ("The Walking Dead") portrayed Avery Jordan, a sports reporter who was raped by her cameraman, played by David Marciano ("Homeland"). Only, one juror bought the "legitimate rape" argument, and he was able to get off on those charges. Then, he sued her for custody of the child, ultimately winning limited visitation. It was too much for the new mother to take, who fled with the child.

While the "legitimate rape" argument was determined a contributing factor...

Geek Girl Navigating the World – There’s Nothing Wrong with a Humorous Cop
There’s been a lot of doom and gloom in the Geek Girl columns of late. I blame some of that on winter TV. Networks seem to run shows that are darker and more depressing during the winter. This isn’t to say that I couldn’t find some happier fare if I just set my mind to looking for it, but so much of it seems so inane that I end up losing interest pretty easily.

One of the things that I do seem to end up watching frequently are cop shows and procedural dramas. That’s no surprise, given the columns about “Castle” and “Elementary” earlier. It’s not a preference that I trouble myself over too much. I’ve also established that I am a fan of the genre blender. Mash-ups, especially those that seem unlikely but still manage to work have a way of drawing me in like nothing else.

Hope Davis Tapped For Law & Order: Svu
Actress Hope Davis may be headed to an interesting guest spot over at NBC’s Law & Order: Svu, but the gig also constitutes somewhat of an In Treatment reunion.

The HBO drama, In Treatment, which stars Gabriel Byrne, was written by Warren Leight, who is the current showrunner of Svu. Hope Davis played Mia for several episodes of season 2.

THR has learned that Davis will pop up on Svu as Viola Mesner, the mother of a very trouble boy named Henry. Ethan Cutkosky of Shameless will portray her son.

“Julie Martin and I co-wrote this one; it’s a tough episode about a mother who confronts the possibility that her 10-year-old son is just … wired wrong,” Leight told THR. “We sent it out to Hope and I crossed my fingers because I really couldn’t think of anyone else who could play it. Working with Hope on In Treatment was...

David Marciano at the Center of Legitimate Rape Scandal on Law & Order: Svu
It will still be a long while before Homeland returns to Showtime, which means we won’t be seeing David Marciano’s Virgil anytime soon, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t be seeing the actor. After all, he’s perfectly capable of branching out and taking small guest roles on other TV shows. In this case, that is exactly what Marciano is doing; he’ll be guest starring in an upcoming episode of Law & Order: Svu, which will tackle a topic made controversial last year during election time. It should make for an interesting case of the week and I’m very curious how the show will choose to handle it.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marciano will be playing Rick Purcell, a cameraman charged with the rape of a young woman. Playing opposite Marciano is The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan, who will take on the role of Avery Jordan,...
