Barbarian director Zach Cregger's next project as part of his current deal with New Line Cinema is Weapons, which is now in production and is set to hit theaters in early 2026. However, it seems the highly in-demand filmmaker is also being courted by Sony Pictures.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider recently reported that Cregger was set to helm a Clue reboot for the studio, but later updated his story to say that he had decided to pass on the project and was now in talks to direct a new Resident Evil movie.

The last Resident Evil feature was Johannes Roberts' Welcome to Racoon City starring Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, and Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield. It was not well-received by fans or critics.

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and Barbarian’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Weapons, which they’re planning to give a theatrical release date on January 16, 2026, and they’re also paying Cregger a sum in the eight figure range to make the movie. In addition to working with them on Weapons, New Line signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them, and they gave a greenlight to the sci-fi thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger. Last week, we heard that the 2021 live-action feature Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City may be getting a follow-up of sorts, as a project called Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is in the works, coming from the same company that was behind Welcome to Raccoon City (Raccoon Hg Film Productions) and set to film in the same area: Greater Sudbury, a city in Ontario, Canada. In 1996, the first Resident Evil title debuted, giving players a new experience that would change the horror video game genre forever. Over the years, the franchise has introduced many new titles and several remakes, expanding the scope of the series and sometimes, as is the case with Resident Evil 4, changing the way audiences play the games.

The franchise continues to impress in many aspects, one of which is its villains. These antagonists add a terrifying element to these games and often provide a real challenge for players to succeed. The scariest ones stick with the audience and help to make the Resident Evil series so iconic.

The big question for longtime Resident Evil fans with regards to Netflix’s new take on the franchise is whether or not it exists within the same canon as the games. Does this show continue or enhance the timeline of the video games in some way?

The definitive answer is revealed in episode 7, “Parasite,” in which we learn that the show’s Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick), father to Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong), is one of several clones the Wesker from the games made of himself. Adapted from Anthony Burgess’s 1962 decline-of-civilization novel, A Clockwork Orange received four Academy Award® nominations; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay (Based on Material from Another Medium) and Best Film Editing.

Directed, written and produced by Kubrick, the film stars Malcolm McDowell as Alex DeLarge, Warren Clarke, James Marcus and Michael Tarn as his droogs, Patrick Magee and Michael Bates.

In 2020, the United States Library of Congress selected A Clockwork Orange for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

The 4K restoration was conducted by Warner Bros.’ Motion Picture Imaging (MPI). Kubrick’s former right-hand man Leon Vitali and the Kubrick Estate worked closely with the team at Warner Bros. during the mastering process.
