‘Elsbeth’ Season 2 Episode 19 Preview: Billy Magnussen Guest Stars
Image
Billy Magnussen (Black Mirror) pops in to guest star as a playboy on CBS’s Elsbeth season two episode 19, “I’ve Got a Little List.” Episode 19, directed by Lily Mariye, will air on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 9pm Et/Pt.

And speaking of Elsbeth episodes, how about #18? The episode marked the end of Michael Emerson’s guest-starring run on the series, led by his wife, Carrie Preston. In an interview with Variety, Preston spoke about the episode’s lasting impact on her character. “It is our most dramatic episode of the whole series so far, and I think it is an important episode because of that,” said Preston. “We are going to see how it is that she overcomes it, because it does knock her off her feet and it really sends her into a darker place that we haven’t seen before.”

Paramount Global Sets 2023-25 Directors Initiative Participants
Image
Shari Lynette Carpenter, Miko Lim and Oscar Rene Lozoya have been selected to participate in the 2023-2025 Paramount Directors Initiative, Paramount Global said Thursday.

The two-year program, now in its 19th year, matches the program’s directors with CBS Television Network, CBS Studios, Paramount Television Studios and Paramount Global drama and comedy series directors. The primary focus of the initiative is to provide access and opportunities to directors, with a focus on those from underrepresented groups.

Throughout the program, the directors will receive exposure to the Paramount Global network episodic directing process. In addition to getting a chance to observe the in-depth, technical aspects, participants develop relationships with showrunners, producers, network executives and other significant decision-makers.

The program also now guarantees participants an episode of television to direct on the CBS Television Network.

“At Paramount, we believe that diversity and inclusion are key to creating compelling and meaningful content for our audiences,...

‘Invitation To A Bonfire’ Showrunner Rachel Caris Love Is Hopeful Drama Dropped By AMC Will Find A New Home
Image
The showrunner of AMC’s recently scrapped Invitation to a Bonfire is hopeful that her psychological thriller will land elsewhere.

Rachel Caris Love says she’s already in conversations about finding “a partner who’s capable of giving us the support that we need.” Her team already completed four of the first six episodes when she received word before Christmas that AMC was killing the Boston-based project that stars Tatiana Maslany, Ngozi Anyanwu and Pilou Asbæ.

The series was given a six-episode order and was scheduled to launch this year on AMC and AMC+. But then Bonfire, along with the second season of 61st Street, were just dropped by AMC Networks after the company revealed it would take around 400M of content write downs.

“Everyone on the cast and crew is really crushed,” Love tells Deadline. “When they called me, they said this had absolutely nothing to do with the...

‘Partner Track’ and ‘The Imperfects’ Both Canceled By Netflix After One Season
Image
Netflix has canceled two of its freshman drama series: “Partner Track” and “The Imperfects.”

“Partner Track” premiered in late August of this year, while “The Imperfects” came in early September. Both made appearances on the Netflix Top 10 and stayed there for three weeks, with the former peaking in the No. 4 position and the latter peaking at No. 3.

Based on Helen Wan’s 2013 novel of the same name, “Partner Track” was a legal drama starring Arden Cho as Ingrid Yun, a young lawyer caught between her moral compass and her passions as she climbs the partner track at an elite New York law firm.

Georgia Lee served as showrunner, and executive produced alongside Kristen Campo and writer Kim Shumway. Directors included Julie Anne Robinson, Tanya Wexler, Adam Brooks, Lily Mariye, Kevin Berlandi. Wan consulted.

“The Imperfects” followed Abbi Singh (Rhianna Jagpal), Juan Ruiz (Iñaki Godoy), and Tilda Weber (Morgan Taylor Campbell...

‘Partner Track’ Showrunner Georgia Lee on Making a Netflix Rom-Com That’s a Trojan Horse for Exploring “Structural Racism and Sexism”
Image
Click here to read the full article.

In Netflix’s Partner Track, the rom-com is a bait and switch for a story less about finding your love and more about finding yourself.

The 10-episode first season, which dropped on the streamer on Aug. 26, follows Ingrid Yun (Arden Cho), a talented and determined first-generation Korean American and senior associate who is looking to secure a junior partnership at her high-profile law firm.

But as she finds — with the help of her friends, family and a few love interests — her persistence and ingenuity might not be enough to overcome the racism and sexism of her white male-dominated workplace.

Based on the book by Helen Wan, showrunner Georgia Lee drops viewers into a glossy world where on the surface, seemingly the biggest challenge for the beautiful, intelligent and fiercely good lawyer is only whether the men she dates are good enough to be her partner.

The Terror: Infamy is the Most Important Show On Right Now
Kayti Burt Aug 12, 2019

The Terror: Infamy's look at Japanese-American incarceration during WWII has many disturbingly timely parallels.

The Terror Season 2, also known as The Terror: Infamy, begins tonight on AMC. It is the second installment in a historical horror anthology series. The first season, which premiered last year, followed (with a supernatural twist) the real-life story of British naval ships H.M.S. Terror and H.M.S. Erebus as they looked to find the Northwest Passage in the mid-19th century, only to perish in the effort.

The Terror: Infamy takes on a subject much closer—geographically, temporally, thematically—to home. Set in 1941 and in the years following, it centers the members of a close-knit Japanese-American community living on California's Terminal Island fishing community, and what happens to them post-Pearl Harbor after the issuing of Executive Order 9066, which incarcerated an estimated 120,000 Japanese-Americans and Japanese-Canadians in camps in California, Idaho,...

TV Review: ‘The Terror: Infamy’
“The Terror: Infamy” didn’t need ghosts to be frightening. Alexander Woo and Max Borenstein’s new iteration of the “Terror” series, both thanks to its subject matter and supernatural apparitions lurking at the edges, is permeated by an ever-creeping sense of dread that proves undeniable. Tracing the needless devastation of Japanese-American internment during World War II, the second installment of AMC’s anthology series is straightforward about the human cost of racist paranoia. Even when “Infamy” is blunt, it’s understandable; it’s not exactly like the horrific reality that inspired it was subtle, either.

By largely following a single family, “Infamy” also finds a way to make a staggering historical event that can sometimes feel too big to comprehend feel as personal as it truly was. After immigrating to San Francisco from Japan, Henry (Shingo Usami) and Asako (Naoko Mori) have built a life for themselves and their...

‘Walking Dead’, ‘Killing Eve’ Stars Among Panelists Who Talk Challenges, Triumphs Of #MeToo — AMC Networks Summit
Melissa McBride in The Walking Dead (2010)
An emotional Melissa McBride, who plays the strong and resourceful Carol on The Walking Dead, seemed to sum up the resonance of a pair of panels at an AMC Network event devoted to Hollywood’s new diversity. With the company’s second-annual summit working through an agenda covering the theme that “Story Matters,” discussions on “Who Gets To Tell Stories in Hollywood” and “How Stories are Told: Voices of Genre” offered a current snapshot of life in front of and behind the television cameras through the lens of #MeToo.

But a question about the evolution of McBride’s well-loved character from domestically abused wife to symbol of strength in a dystopian world brought a halting response from the star. McBride fought back tears, talking about knowing women who’d also faced abuse.

“I would love to see a day where this doesn’t happen,” she said. Then, citing the character...

Teen Wolf season 4 episode 7 review: Weaponized
A virus is sweeping through Beacon Hills in this week's stomach-churning Teen Wolf. Here's Ron's review of Weaponized...

This review contains spoilers.

4.7 Weaponized

Knowing a little bit about how television production works, Teen Wolf's latest episode seems like it could almost be a 'ripped from the headlines' sort of affair. While not intended to capitalize on the Ebola outbreak in western Africa and the fact that the United States is currently bringing two Ebola-infected people to Atlanta (Teen Wolf's old stomping grounds) in an effort to treat the insanely unpleasant and deadly disease, it could not have been timed more perfectly. The United States government is importing fatal diseases and Beacon Hills High School is ground zero for an entirely new disease that's spreading like the gross rashes on the bodies of its victims.

One of the interesting things about Teen Wolf this season is how they seem...

"The Mummy" star Brendan Fraser is to make his Broadway debut in the latest run of Ingvar Ambjornsen's "Elling". He'll hit the stage alongside "True Blood" star Denis O'Hare and Jennifer Coolidge in the quirky comedy about two odd recluses who share a state-funded flat together after being institutionalized.

Ambjornsen's Norwegian novels were adapted into a cult Peter Naess' film in 2001. Naess also adapted the story for the stage in Scandinavia. "Elling" was well received by critics in London when it hit the West End in 2007.

Previews of Fraser's "Elling" begin on November 2 this year.
