"What happens when the past comes back to haunt you?" A hospital for the supernatural is the focus of The Ward, now available from Dark Horse Comics, and writer Cavan Scott is the subject of our latest Q&a!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer questions for us, Cavan, and congratulations on your new comic book series The Ward! When did you originally come up with the idea for The Ward?

It came about maybe four or five years ago when watching medical dramas with my wife. She’s a big fan of things like ER or Code Black. In fact, Code Black was instrumental in coming up with the idea. I went back and watched the phenomenal documentary that the show was based on which have these crazy scenes when medics are having to operate on patients right in the middle of an open emergency...

Dark Horse Comics will be bringing the world of Bungie’s Halo to a brand new comic series, Halo: Initiation. The upcoming mini-series will be written by Brian Reed and will be illustrated by Marco Castiello and will delve deeper into the origins of the Spartan-iv program first introduced in Halo 4 – focusing in particular on Sarah Palmer.

You might be under the impression that Tomb Raider will tell Lara Croft’s rebooted origin story, but we now know that there is another origin story that takes place before the one in Crystal Dynamics’ game. Square Enix has announced that Dark Horse Comics will release a new comic book series — written by the lead game writer Rhianna Pratchett — following the release of Tomb Raider this March, that will act as a prequel to the events in the game.

Tomb Raider: The Beginning is a 48-page, six-part hardcover comic book series that covers all the events leading up to the shipwreck of the Endurance at the start of Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming game. We are assuming this means that it will start with Lara’s birth, followed by a bit from of her childhood where she learned to dual wield Nerf Guns, and then wraps up with her packing...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!

As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. The Art of the Mass Effect Universe has been announced by Dark Horse Comics. The hardcover book features a collection of illustrations inspired by the BioWare series. If you like comic books and are a Star Wars fan, then 2011 is your year. The Dark Horse/Star Wars panel at C2E2 showcased some big names such as John Ostrander (Legacy) John Jackson Miller (Knight Errant), and Star Wars editor Dave Marshall. The panel teased the crowd with glimpses 4 new titles set in a galaxy far, far away.

First up, we have the return of the Crimson Empire series. Writer John Jackson Miller (Mass Effect: Redemption, Knights Of The Old Republic) will be writing a new tale of Star Wars called Star Wars: Knight Errant first as an ongoing comic series, and then as a novel to be published by Del Ray Books.
