Alicia Silverstone Has Daddy Issues in ‘Irish Blood’ Crime Drama Trailer
Image
Alicia Silverstone plays a bitter Los Angeles divorce lawyer who goes to Ireland to find her estranged father, only to discover shady business dealings and foul play, in the trailer for the Acorn TV crime drama Irish Blood, which dropped Tuesday.

It also doesn’t help that Silverstone as Fiona Sharpe doesn’t trust anyone after receiving a cryptic message from Declan, her father, played by Jason O’Mara, that sends her on a quest to learn about her father’s dark past. That’s after years of Fiona channeling her anger toward her father for the benefit of her litigious clients back in L.A. but doing little to resolve her daddy issues.

But once in Ireland, Fiona realizes that the story of her and her mother being abandoned on her 10th birthday was all along a protective lie.

‘Hell Motel’ Offers Death & Dismemberment But Half-Baked Mystery [TV Review]
Image
The general public, by and large, doesn’t just love murder — they’re obsessed with it. Society’s fascination with twisted crimes and the psychology, mystery, and suspense that surrounds the compulsion to solve them is only natural. People seek closure because it can perhaps make sense of something that’s otherwise irrational. This obsession is nothing new, but what is a more recent development is how true crime and murder mysteries have slowly infected pop culture far beyond the reaches of the horror genre. This allows horror even more leeway when it comes to stories that embrace and subvert these trending tropes.

Hell Motel is a blunt, brutal, and bloody slasher series that’s right at home with the visceral nature of Friday the 13th and Halloween, while also riffing on true crime, the murky ethics that surround its sensationalization, and also humanity’s inherent need for answers and understanding.

‘Guess Who’ Review (Tubi Original)
Image
Stars: Corteon Moore, Keeya King, Elizabeth Saunders, Ryan Bommarito, Gabriel Darku, Vanessa Jackson, Amanda Ip, Chimwemwe Miller | Written by Matt Wells, Ian Carpenter, Aaron Martin | Directed by Amelia Moses

With their new horror thriller Guess Who, Tubi may finally have come up with a fairly original idea for one of their films. As far as I can tell, it’s the first film to use mummering as a major plot point. No, not mummies, mummering. What is mummering? Mummering is a Christmas-time house-visiting tradition practised in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ireland, and the City of Philadelphia. It adds a touch of Halloween to the season as people would dress in disguise and go door to door. If they were invited in, they’d give some kind of performance while their hosts tried to guess who they were.

Michael and Kaitlyn, his fiancée, are driving out to meet his family when they have to stop for gas.

Slasher: Ripper Review: Blood, Guts, And A Lot Of Heart
Image
I have an opinion: "Slasher" is better than "American Horror Story."

Maybe that's not so controversial to say in 2023, when the popular horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy hasn't had a good season in almost five years, and hasn't had a great one in over 10. "AHS" premiered in 2011, the same year that the sci-fi/technology-run-amok anthology series "Black Mirror" premiered. Curiously, though "Black Mirror" was just as popular, and was covered as furiously as "AHS" was in its prime, its influence on subsequent sci-fi visions seems to have jumped mediums to film. One can imagine pressing play on a new season of "Black Mirror" and watching films like "Ex-Machina," "The Circle," and "Vivarium," were a few minutes shaved off each.

"AHS," however, spawned a veritable renaissance in horror anthology series, from HBO's "Room 104," to Hulu's "Castle Rock," to Syfy's "Channel Zero." Before "AHS," you'd have to...

Berlin, April 23 (Ians) Mainz came from behind through second-half goals from Ludovic Ajorque, Leandro Barreiro and Aaron Martin within 14 minutes to upset leaders Bayern Munich 3-1, while Borussia Dortmund took the lead in the Bundesliga table following a 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday night.

The Bavarians took the reins from the get-go and thought they had broken the deadlock, but Sadio Mane’s goal was ruled offside with 15 minutes gone.

Bayern dominated possession and eventually opened the scoring at the half-hour mark when Joao Cancelo’s whipped cross into the box allowed Mane to head home from close range.

The German giants should have extended their lead, but neither Jamal Musiala nor Cancelo was able to finish off presentable opportunities.

Mainz turned up after the restart and pressed Bayern onto the back foot. Bayern ceased its offensive actions whereas Mainz took over and restored parity in the 65th...

Image
We're only a day away from the two-episode premiere of Slasher: Ripper on Shudder and AMC+, and not only do we have an exclusive clip just for Daily Dead readers, but director Adam MacDonald (Pyewacket) provided us with some behind-the-scenes details!

Synopsis: "Slasher: Ripper takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century and follows Basil Garvey (McCormack), a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood. There’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may...

Slasher (2016)
Slasher season 5, a.k.a Slasher: Ripper, gets April premiere date
Slasher (2016)
Eleven months have gone by since AMC Networks announced they had ordered a new season of the television anthology series Slasher – and now the premiere of the show’s new season is just a few more months away! Titled Slasher: Ripper, Slasher season 5 is set to premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services on April 6th.

Slasher is a show that started out on the now-defunct network Chiller, then moved to Netflix for the second and third seasons, and then jumped over to Shudder for the fourth season (which happened to have genre icon David Cronenberg as a cast member). Now AMC+ has gotten in on the action as well.

Here’s the official synopsis for Slasher: Ripper, which takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century: Basil Garvey, a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, oversees a city on the cusp...

Today we’ve learned that the series premieres April 6 on Shudder and AMC+.

“Slasher: Ripper” takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century and stars Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) as Basil Garvey, a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood.

Terror Train 2 trailer: sequel to the remake is here to ring in the New Year
Image
Terror Train 2, a sequel to the Terror Train remake that was released through the Tubi streaming service back in October, will be available to watch on Tubi in the U.S. as of December 31st. In Canada, it’s being released on Bell Media’s Crave. And with the film’s release just a couple days away, a trailer has arrived online to give us a preview of what we’re in store for this time around. You can check it out in the embed above.

While the 1980 slasher cult classic Terror Train (watch it Here) takes place on New Year’s Eve, the remake moved the setting to Halloween. Terror Train 2 returns to the New Year’s Eve setting, telling the following story: It has been over a year since a series of gruesome murders took the lives of multiple college seniors aboard the now infamous Terror Train. ‘Terror Train 2’ Trailer – Tubi Sequel Premieres on New Year’s Eve
Robyn Alomar
Tubi‘s remake of the ’80s slasher movie Terror Train was just released for the Halloween season, and a sequel is headed our way for New Year’s Eve. Watch the official trailer below!

A Tubi Original, Terror Train 2 introduces a brand new storyline, slated to premiere this New Year’s Eve, which pays homage to the festive setting of the first film that famously took place at a Nye party. From Tubi and Incendo, the sequel wrapped production in Montreal and will be available in the U.S. exclusively on Tubi on December 31, 2022.

Having survived the carnage, Robyn Alomar (Alana) and Tim Rozon (The Magician) will reprise their characters in Terror Train 2, which takes place over a year after the gruesome, vengeful murders took the lives of multiple college seniors aboard the now infamous “Terror Train.”

In the sequel, the remaining survivors are coerced to take a New Year...

Brooklyn Horror Film Festival Review: Terror Train is a Solid Slasher Remake
Image
In 1980, Canada delivered one of the most mind boggling slasher films of all time. Terror Train, directed by Roger Spottiswoode, threw Halloween, Friday the 13th, Animal House, Runaway Train and stage magic into a body bag, shook it up and dumped out a glorious Frankenstein monstrosity featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and David Copperfield. Forty-two years later, this classic oddity gets a modern yet mostly faithful retelling courtesy director Philippe Gagnon.

The premise is exactly the same: a well-to-do fraternity holds a Halloween bash on a privately chartered train only to have their numbers picked off one-by-one. There’s a mysterious magician, played by Tom Rozon in the finest Gary Numan impersonation ever, and an angry killer bent on revenge for the misdeeds of said fraternity. Costumes exchange and body counts rise as both guests and train employees realize someone is out to get them. The main difference is a twist...

‘Terror Train (2022)’ Review
Image
Stars: Matias Garrido, Corteon Moore, Robyn Alomar, Noah Parker, Dakota Jamal Wellman, Tim Rozon, Mary Walsh, Emma Elle Paterson, Tori Barban | Written by Ian Carpenter, Aaron Martin | Directed by Philippe Gagnon

Released in 1980 the original Terror Train was one of the many slashers to be released in the wake of Friday the 13th and Halloween. Benefiting from the presence of that film’s star, Jamie Lee Curtis it did well at the box office and has built a following over the years. There was even an attempt to remake it in the early 2000s, but that ended up morphing into Train, a film that sucked even by torture porn standards.

Since the original was a favourite of mine, I was initially interested when I heard it had been remade and was scheduled for an October release. However, when I heard Tubi was involved, a lot of that interest faded. As...

Terror Train Review: Punch Your Ticket To Boredom [Brooklyn Horror Film Festival]
Image
Remakes like Philippe Gagnon's "Terror Train" will always face comparison complaints based on their existence, which is why I try my best in reviews to treat them as standalone. Critique the movie you're given — like this bargain bin, zero momentum slasher. "Terror Train" is the latest in a string of Tubi originals taking the Syfy route of The Asylum-level productions, filled with shoddy effects and worse performances. "Terror Train" is a deadly whodunit without any terror, proving itself inadequate before tickets are punched and conductors discover passenger corpses.

Writers Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin take the "frat hazing gone wrong" route when a pledge at [insert generic Greek letters] kisses a corpse (as a prank) and instantly goes insane. Alana (Robyn Alomar) is the sorority sister who lured the eventual psych asylum patient into a bedroom with promises of sex, now stuck with the guilt. Her boyfriend Mo (Corteon Moore) and his best...

Directed by Philippe Gagnon (Amber Alert) from a screenplay by Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin (Slasher), the Terror Train remake has the following synopsis:

Tubi Turning Hans Holzer’s Novel ‘The Amityville Curse’ into an Original Streaming Movie
Image
Tubi announced today at Content Canada that it will expand upon its collaboration with Incendo on an upcoming slate of projects that includes a new film adaptation of Hans Holzer’s The Amityville Curse, which was published in 1981. That book ended up serving as the basis for official franchise movie The Amityville Curse, which was released in 1990.

The new adaptation of Hans Holzer’s novel will be a modern take on the ever popular franchise with a fictionalized story that remains true to the novel. Further ensuring an authentic approach, Incendo has secured the underlying rights to Hans Holzer’s titular original novel from the estate. The film is being adapted by Dennis Heaton (“Motive”) and directed by Éric Tessier (“You Will Remember Me”), with Graham Ludlow (“Terror Train”), Kaleigh Kavanagh (“Terror Train”), Brook Peters (“Terror Train”) and Shari Segal (“Terror Train”) executive producing alongside fellow author and Hans Holzer’s daughter,...

TIFF: Tubi Nabs ‘Amityville Curse’ Novel Adaptation, ‘Marry F*** Kill’ Genre Pics
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Fox’s Tubi is adding to its horror library after picking up two Canadian genre pics — Dennis Heaton’s adaptation of Hans Holzer’s The Amityville Curse novel and Marry F*** Kill from writers Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin — at the Toronto Film Festival.

Indie production banner Incendo will shoot both productions later this year for Tubi in the U.S. market where it faces stepped-up competition in the free, ad-supported online space against Paramount’s Pluto TV, Amazon’s Freevee and the Roku Channel.

The latest genre pic deals for the Fox-owned streaming platform were unveiled on Tuesday at TIFF as part of its informal film market. Marry F*** Kill sees five estranged college friends reunite for their friend’s funeral after her suicide, only to see an innocent game of “Marry, Fuck, Kill” turn into something far more sinister.
