Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot Unveils its New Slayer's Identity
Image
Into every generation a Slayer is born, and now the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has given her a name.

Per Deadline, Ryan Kiera Armstrong's new Slayer will be called Nova, describing her as "an introverted high-school student" who becomes the latest Chosen One to battle supernatural forces of evil. Additionally, the article confirmed actor Kingston Vernes will join the show as Nova's potential love interest Carson, a fellow student at New Sunnydale Academy who "starts noticing her after a life-changing event."

Prior to Buffy, Armstrong made appearances in shows like Anne with an E and American Horror Story: Red Tide, most recently playing At Atin resident Fern in the Star Wars pirate adventure Skeleton Crew. The actress' involvement was confirmed in May, with Sarah Michelle Gellar -- who'll reprise her role as fellow Slayer Buffy Summers -- revealing Armstrong got the part via an Instagram recording of their conversation.

The regular cast is rounded out by Jack Cutmore-Scott, who recently played Kelsey Grammer’s son in Frasier, as Mr. Burke – a possible replacement for Anthony Stewart Head’s Giles – and Daniel di Tomasso as a character called Abe. While...

In a new photo on Instagram, Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series is in pre-production.

Sarah Michelle Gellar teases bringing back fan-favorite characters for the Buffy reboot
Image
Fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer might see some of their favorites returning to the upcoming reboot. Sarah Michelle Gellar has teased to Vanity Fair Italia, that she hopes some of her former co-stars will appear in the supernatural series.

Gellar told the outlet that she and the show’s makers are working to balance new and old characters in the reboot. “My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”

The show was famous for not being afraid to kill off characters, even when it wasn’t the most popular decision with fans. Decades later and fans haven’t forgiven creator Joss Whedon for Tara’s demise.

Alyson Hannigan’s Willow seems a likely character to bring back. Xander, who is played by Nicholas Brendon, is less surefire due to the actor’s own personal issues.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is offering fresh insight into the long-developing Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. In a new interview with Vanity Fair Italia, the actress shared new details about the upcoming Hulu series and what finally convinced her to reprise the iconic role more than two decades after the original show ended.

Buffy Star Reveals His Character Almost Had A Firefly Cameo

Buffy the Vampire Slayerstar James Marsters reveals that he almost had a cameo on Firefly, paving the way for him to potentially join the series. Both dramas were created by Joss Whedon, with Firefly taking place in the year 2517. The sci-fi series zeroes in on a group of humans as they arrive on a new star system called The Verse. Despite positive reviews for the Firefly cast and a devoted audience, Fox cancelled the Nathan Fillion-led space saga after one season due to low ratings.

James Marsters, who played the antagonist-turned-hero Spike on Buffy and its spinoff Angel, revealed during a recent convention appearance that he almost joined Firefly. As the actor explains, he was introduced to the cast by Whedon and reveals that Spike would have seen at a bar. One Los Angeles Mansion Played Host To Both Buffy The Vampire Slayer And Blade Runner
Image
The picturesque hills of the Los Angeles neighborhood, Los Feliz, might not seem like the kind of place you'd find an icon of horror and sci-fi cinema, but that's exactly what sits at 2607 Glendower Avenue.

There's plenty of Hollywood history in Los Feliz, which is also home to the most famous movie high school in America. But Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House is surely one of the most striking sites in the neighborhood, which borders Griffith Park and is overlooked by the LA tourist spot where the Terminator became a sci-fi icon. The Ennis House is one of Wright's most celebrated architectural achievements and has, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, been used throughout cinema history as a location for more than 80 productions.

As such, even if you've never even heard of the Ennis House, chances are you've seen it before. In fact, if you happen to...

We Can Hate Joss Whedon but a Key ‘Firefly’ Detail Makes Its Cancelation Even More Heartbreaking After 23 Years
Image
Firefly creator Joss Whedon may have fallen from grace after the serious accusations against him, but his creative genius in the Western space show won over many fans. While the ratings of the show during its run did not do justice to its quality, it only rose in popularity in the following 23 years. A key detail about the cast speaks volumes about Whedon’s work.

The stars of the show, Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk, have all gone on to build great careers in successful sci-fi projects. It meant that the 2002 show could’ve gone places if Fox provided favorable conditions for its run. Sadly, the cult show didn’t get enough support from Fox from the get-go.

“The Story Is Needed”: Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals Why This ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Stuck
Image
There’s no word that Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans are more familiar with than “no.” For years, the Chosen One herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, turned down request after request and hope after hope that she would pick up her stake and snap back into action as the titular vampire slayer for a follow-up series. So, imagine our delight and surprise when the actress finally said “yes,” and announced that a sequel project was in development. Since the news officially broke earlier this year, the fandom has been trying to get their heads around what made this iteration not just stick but also get both the stamp of approval and the involvement of Gellar herself.

While recently speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the Dexter: Original Sin star revealed that it really came down to the blood, sweat, and tears that pilot director, Chloé Zhao, poured into the project long before it came across Gellar’s desk.

Spike actor James Marsters praised Buffy the Vampire Slayerstar Sarah Michelle Gellar for her work ethic on the series, and revealed why she liked working with him so much. Even nepo-babies have to audition, folks. And it seems as though they are, in droves, for the upcoming Buffy The Vampire Slayer sequel series. According to Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan — a.k.a. Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg, respectively — there have been more than one original cast member from the iconic teen series whose now-teen kids have auditioned for the latest iteration. Long before the MCU was raking in billions and telling large, interconnected stories with beloved characters like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America, there was Howard the Duck. Marvel's first theatrical feature film, which tried to capitalize on the success of the wisecracking, womanizing anthropomorphic duck, was a legendary disaster that had the comic book giant reeling for over a decade from its failure. Sarah Michelle Gellar recently reunited with her Buffy The Vampire Slayer co-star Alyson Hannigan, and a shared Instagram photo of the pair has sparked calls from fans for Willow Rosenberg's return in the upcoming Buffy revival series. Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar starred in many iconic projects, including 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer, 1999's Cruel Intentions, and 2002's Scooby-Doo. However, few of them reach the popularity of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Michelle Trachtenberg’s Cause of Death Identified as Diabetes Complications
Michelle Trachtenberg
The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that actor Michelle Trachtenberg died from complications related to diabetes mellitus. She was 39.

Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment on February 26. Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced her dead. Authorities reported no signs of foul play.

Initially, the medical examiner did not perform an autopsy, citing a request from the family based on religious considerations. In the absence of criminal suspicion, the office allowed the request. A final ruling was made following analysis of laboratory samples, which confirmed the cause of death.

At the time of her death, NBC News reported that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant. The medical examiner’s statement did not mention that procedure in its ruling.

Trachtenberg began acting professionally in early childhood. Her career started with television commercials and a recurring role as Lily Montgomery on All My Children.

Smallville Sequel Art Imagines Superman & Supergirl vs. James Marsters' Brainiac
Image
Fans haven't given up hope for the Smallville sequel series, even if that project isn't part of the Dcu lineup. New concept art teased what that Elseworlds story could look like.

Smallville broke new ground for superhero TV shows by focusing on young Clark Kent's story arcs, hooking fans with an engaging teen drama. There's still clamor for a continuation almost 14 years after the series ended, and the cast is also pushing for a spinoff. User @buffy2ville's joined the bandwagon with concept art on Instagram, which featured different iterations of Tom Welling as Superman. One post even imagined an epic battle featuring Welling (as Kal-El), Laura Vandervoort (Kara Zor-El), and James Marsters (Brainiac); it's a compelling pitch for an Elseworlds Superman.

Smallville Nearly Received A Justice League Spin-Off Series
Image
"Smallville" ran for 10 seasons, but its impact can't be measured only by how long it stayed on the air. The CW's Arrowverse doesn't exist without "Smallville." Now, "Arrow" did not share a continuity with "Smallville" and it recast its Oliver Queen. But still, even without "Arrow" being a proper "Smallville" spin-off, The CW greenlighting a Green Arrow show clearly happened because "Smallville" had introduced the character to their audience.

But there could've been a Green Arrow-led TV series much sooner, one starring Justin Hartley. During "Smallville" season 6, writer Steven DeKnight was working on a Justice League spin-off.

Beginning in season 4 of "Smallville," Clark Kent (Tom Welling) slowly begins meeting other DC superheroes. In "Run," it's Bart Allen/Impulse (Kyle Gallner). Season 5 had Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) in "Aqua" and then Victor Stone/Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young) in, well, "Cyborg." Then season 6 brought in Green Arrow (Hartley) as a recurring character.

“That’s incredibly frustrating to me”: Why Joss Whedon Hated ‘Twilight’ After Making ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ With Sarah Michelle Gellar
Image
Joss Whedon hated every vampire show that came after his seminal work, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The reason, though it has some truth to it, will raise your eyebrow since it came from Whedon. The creator explained that the central female characters in works like Twilight and The Vampire Diaries had more of a passive role in their respective stories, unlike Buffy.

Whedon’s protagonist, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, was not just at the center of Buffy‘s plot, but she was also instrumental in driving it. She is a descendant of the Vampire Slayers, who battle vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness.

While Whedon delivered strong female protagonists in his story, he was accused of dehumanizing the actresses in his series by creating toxic workplace environments. The allegations came from Buffy stars Charisma Carpenter,...

David Boreanaz Was Like a "Terrifed Kid" Filming Buffy Pilot Episode
Image
With a Buffy The Vampire Slayer revival on its way, there have been several stories emerging about the original series as those involved in the iconic series have reminisced about their own time working on the show. Currently, it is not clear which actors from the original series will be making an appearance outside the original Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar. While Gellar was already established as an actor when taking on the role of Buffy Summers, her costar David Boreanaz was very new to the scene – and the director of the show’s pilot has explained exactly how green he was.

Before being expanded to the full first episode of the series, creator Joss Whedon made a 25-minute pilot, and while appearing on the Re-vamped with Juliet Landau podcast, Charles Martin Smith recalled Boreanaz being like a “terrified” kid. He said:

“David, playing Angel, he had his first scene I think ever in my episode.

Dragon Ball Finally Loses an Embarrassing Ratings Record
Image
Dragonball Evolution -- the eternally reviled live-action adaptation of Dragon Ball -- has been stuck at the bottom of IMDb's user ranking chart for several years. However, the abysmal rating of a newly-released Disney film has bumped up Evolution to a slightly higher position on the list.

On IMDb, Dragonball Evolution holds an overall rating of 2.5 stars (out of a possible 10) -- just a few points below Baby Geniuses (2.6) and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (2.7). However, Disney's live-action remake of Snow White, which debuted in theaters on March 21, currently sits at a dismal 1.5-star rating on the site. Many reviewers cited the film's poor use of CGi in addition to bland musical numbers as two of its main failings. A significant amount of criticism has also been directed towards Snow White actor Rachel Zegler, who voiced several controversial opinions about Disney's original Snow White film prior to the remake's release.

‘Dragon Ball’ Doesn’t Need a Remake But It Definitely Needs a Better Live-Action Adaptation
Image
The legacy of one of the greatest franchises of all time, Dragon Ball, by Akira Toriyama, has recently gained traction once again after the release of Dragon Ball Daima, the last project by the creator. The series has once again given hopes to the fans that the franchise will revive the unprecedented fame and recognition that it lost along the way.

Fans have also expressed desire for a new remake that could further extend the Dragon Ball legacy and help the series become the greatest once again. However, considering the current trend, a remake might not be the best option for the Dragon Ball franchise. It would make more sense for the creators to focus on a live-action adaptation, as these adaptations have become the talk of the town.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot's First Details Tease New Slayer With Willow As Inspiration
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the most influential TV series of all time, reshaping not only the fantasy universe but also feminism in the industry. The original series ended in 2003, but it has continued to be one of the most beloved titles.

Earlier this year, Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed that a Buffy reboot is in early development. For years, the lead star said she was not interested in reprising her role as the titular character. But now she has found a story she's interested in. Still in the early stages, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series will bring Gellar back as Buffy. TVLine has shared the first details about the sequel series, which will follow a new Slayer and mark "the next chapter in the Buffyverse."

Thereboot reportedly uses Willow as an inspiration for the new slayer, instead of Buffy. In the original series, Buffy was a popular girl with girly interests,...

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Reboot Details Tease a New Monster-Hunting Hero
Image
If you've missed Buffy the Vampire Slayer, good news! A reboot series is in the works with Sarah Michelle Gellarreturning as Buffy Summers. But we didn't know much else about the series. Which of her vampire friends (and lovers) will make a return? Is Willow (Alyson Hannigan) going to be part of it? Now, thanks to an exclusive from TV Line, we have more of an idea as to what the series is going to be. And honestly? It is going to rule.

The new report states that Gellar's character will be part of the series but that the new slayer is named "Nova." TV Line believes that the name is a placeholder. According to the outlet, Nova is less like Buffy and more like Willow in the sense that she is someone who is a bit more reserved and lonely while Buffy was very much a "personality." At the end of the series though,...

'That Would Be My Dream': Buffy the Vampire Slayer Star Hopes for Reboot Return Despite Character's Death
Image
A conversation about a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has been in the works for years. It wasn't until early this year that Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed the project is in its early stages.

Gellar had previously shut down the idea of coming back to her iconic role of Buffy Summers, but she came around when she revealed her new dream team: two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao as director, and Poker Face's Nora and Zila Zuckerman as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Aside from Gellar, no other original character has been confirmed to return, but Charisma Carpenter told Collider she hopes she'll return.

Carpenter played Cordelia Chase in the first three seasons of the beloved fantasy series, marking Buffy's enemy, and later Xander's love interest. However, she switched to the spin-off Angel after Season 3, where she became one of the main cast members, alongside Angel, the vampire with a soul,...

'Buffy' Star Sarah Michelle Gellar's Latest Instagram Post Sparks Age-Old Debate Among Fans
Image
David Boreanaz just ignited a Buffy the Vampire Slayer debate on Instagram, adding more excitement around the anticipated sequel series. With a pilot order nearing at Hulu, fans of the series are excited about the possibility of another chapter in the Buffy universe. Adding fuel to that fire is Boreanaz's recent comment on Sarah Michelle Gellar's Instagram. In a post, Gellar shared two pictures from Paris, where she is sitting and posing, wearing a black leather jacket. Boreanaz, referencing Buffy's vampire love interests, took to the comments and asked

"Is that Angel's jacket or Spike's?"

The question triggered a slew of comments. While some hoped it was Angel's, and others rooted for the romance between Buffy and Spike, others suggested it was Buffy's own jacket– a theory we're happy to endorse. The comments were a testament to Buffy's enduring legacy and the show's committed fanbase.

Hulu's Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival,...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Star Addresses Reboot Return Despite Controversial Death (After Being Told They Wouldn't Be Killed Off)
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Charisma Carpenter shares her candid thoughts about returning as Cordelia after the character's controversial death. It was confirmed in early February that Hulu greenlit a pilot order for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Sarah Michelle Gellar will recur, reprising her iconic role as Buffy Summers, though the focus will turn to a new slayer. Oscar-winning Nomadland director Chloé Zhao will direct the pilot, with Poker Face showrunners Lilla and Nora Zuckerman writing the script. The project has not been picked up yet, although audiences are wondering which original cast members might return.

According to Collider, while speaking at the Indiana Comic-Con over the weekend, Carpenter touched on the possibility of returning as Cordelia. The actor, an original cast member for the first three seasons of Buffy, before moving on to the spinoff Angel, acknowledged that the Hulu pilot is still in its early stages.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Says 'Buffy' Revival "Moving Faster Than Expected"
Image
A Buffy Summers comeback is on the horizon, and it may be happening sooner than anticipated. Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to return for the as-yet-untitled Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival series, which is nearing a pilot order at Hulu. Gellar will reprise her role and executive produce. And in a recent interview, she gave fans many reasons to be excited.

And while Gellar won't lead the upcoming series — the show is set to follow a new slayer, after all — it remains a mystery if any of the other original cast members will return to reprise their roles. Sadly, we know that we won't see an on-screen family reunion between Buffy and her sister Dawn, as Michelle Trachtenberg, who depicted the younger Summers sister, passed away last month. While speaking with People, Gellar delivered the good news, as well as a call for patience from fans who are eagerly awaiting...

Why Seth Green's Oz Left Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Image
As the supernatural drama "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" gained in popularity over its 12-episode first season, the show inevitably wanted to get a bit bigger for its second installment. That included adding in new characters, some of whom had a tinge of the fantastical, even if they weren't vampires. To that end, consider Daniel Osbourne, better known as Oz. As played by Seth Green, Oz quickly became a valued member of the Scooby Gang while also falling in love with Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan), the charmingly nerdy member of the group and best friend of Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Oh yes, and, as it's soon revealed, Oz is a werewolf, too.

Oz was a big part of the show for its second and third seasons, falling further for Willow while attempting to tamp down his lupine sensibilities once every full moon. Unfortunately, he only made it into a few...

Ahead of the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Revival, Star David Boreanaz Celebrates its Anniversary
Image
David Boreanaz took to Instagram to celebrate the 28th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which debuted on Mar. 10, 1997. It's hard to believe the legendary show is approaching 30 years old, and soon there will be a sequel series.

View this post on InstagramA post shared by David Boreanaz (@imdboreanaz)

Buffy debuted on The WB and was based on the 1992 film of the same name, written by Joss Whedon. Sarah Michelle Gellar took over the titular role of Buffy Summers, who is the latest in a line of young Vampire Slayers. She is guided by a Watcher named Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), but also has the "Scooby Gang," her friends who help as she battles dark forces. What made the show stand out from other teenage series was the excellent dialogue, stories, acting, and more.

The show was a major hit and ran for seven seasons, ending in May 2003, although...

Michelle Trachtenberg's Family Refuse Actress' Autopsy on Religious Grounds
Image
Earlier this week the world received the sad news that beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl actress Michelle Trachtenberg was found dead in her home at just 39 years old. Her passing prompted an outpouring of support from those that knew her best, and the fans who had grown up with her thanks to such films as Harriet the Spy and EuroTrip. While there was much speculation on social media as to why she died, the real reason will never be known.

Per Vulture, Trachtenberg's family has declined to have an autopsy performed on the late star for religious reasons. The New York City Medical Examiner has honored that request, and has thus ruled her death as "undetermined" on the official certificate. The NYPD believes that no foul play was involved in Trachtenberg's passing, so it is not being investigated as suspicious. She was found dead in her New...

Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar has paid tribute to her former Buffy The Vampire Slayer co-star Michelle Trachtenberg following her death Wednesday at the age of 39.

’Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you,” Gellar wrote in an Instagram post alongside a carousel of photos from their time together. “The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.’”

Trachtenberg was found unresponsive at her New York City apartment Wednesday and pronounced dead at the scene. No foul play was suspected and the New York Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death, police said.

Trachtenberg joined Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the cult WB fantasy series’ fifth season in 2000 as Dawn Summers, the younger sister to Gellar’s Buffy. The show aired from 1997 to 2003, first on the WB and concluding on Upn.
