Sydney Sweeney Didn’t Care If She Broke Her Nose Playing Boxer Christy Martin, Says Co-Star Katy O’Brien
Image
Sydney Sweeney was not afraid to pull punches when playing real-life Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic about the boxer, which wrapped production last November. To prepare for the role, Sweeney transformed her body, adding 30 pounds and going up four jean sizes. “But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong,” she explained to W Magazine.

“Love Lies Bleeding” star Katy O’Brien played opposite Sweeney in the ring and admitted in an interview with Variety that she “got punched quite a few times,” but said, “It felt good. It was great. It better read well on camera.”

“Even with [Sweeney’s] extra 30 pounds, I would still have 20 to 30 pounds on her, so it never feels good,” O’Brian did lament when discussing having to hit Sweeney in various scenes. But not only did the “Euphoria” actress not “seem to care very much,” Sweeney told O’Brian, “If you break my nose,...

Sydney Sweeney Gained 30 Pounds for “Crazy” Christy Martin Biopic Transformation
Image
Sydney Sweeney is revealing the details of her “crazy” body transformation to play professional boxer Christy Martin.

During a Monday profile with W Magazine, the Euphoria actress opened up about the rigorous training schedule she endured to portray the boxer. Sweeney went through three and a half months of training, which resulted in her gaining over 30 pounds for the role.

“I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,” she said. “I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”

Sweeney admitted that “my body was completely different” because of all the training, which led to her not being able to “fit in any of my clothes.”

“I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27,” Sweeney recounted. “My boobs got bigger.

Sydney Sweeney Packs a Punch in Christy Martin Film
Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney says the toughest part of her next film wasn’t stepping between the ropes—it was adding roughly 30 pounds of muscle for the chance to play trail-blazing prize-fighter Christy Martin in an untitled biopic directed by David Michôd.

In a W Magazine cover story she describes three daily training blocks—weights at dawn, two hours of kick-boxing at midday, and another hour of weights at night—that left her “so strong, like crazy strong,” even if her jeans jumped from size 23 to 27.

The physical overhaul is only part of the assignment. Michôd, who co-wrote the script with Mirrah Foulkes, calls Martin’s life “a wild mix of under-dog sports saga and personal ordeal” and says Sweeney “turned up every day with her tail wagging, ready to go”.

The film traces the West Virginia boxer’s rapid rise through the 1990s—she fought on a Mike Tyson under-card and...

Fred Williamson and Jack Arnold Were an Odd Match Who Made One of the Best ’70s Action Movies
Image
When actor Fred Williamson and director Jack Arnold came together to make “Black Eye” in 1974, it wasn’t an obvious match.

Williamson was the retired pro football player who, after making his feature film debut in Robert Altman’s “M*A*S*H” in 1970, had skyrocketed to blaxploitation stardom in “Hammer” and a pair of Larry Cohen knockouts, “Black Caesar” and “Hell Up in Harlem.” Arnold was a reliable Hollywood journeyman best known for directing Universal sci-fi flicks like “It Came From Outer Space,” “The Incredible Shrinking Man,” and “The Creature From the Black Lagoon” before spending the 1960s knocking around from studio to studio, genre to genre, with a financially lucrative but creatively static sojourn in episodic television.

Williamson was a rising star of the New Hollywood and Arnold a more or less discarded remnant of the old, but their collaboration yielded one of the most underrated films of its era. A...

Sydney Sweeney Shuts Down Body Shamers With Christy Martin Biopic Training Video
Image
Sydney Sweeney hit back at body shamers who frequent her social media accounts Friday with video that showed her training regimen from her upcoming Christy Martin biopic.

The clip, shared on Instagram, started with a series of insulting and sexist social media about her body followed by footage of her training in the gym for the role.

“She looks very chunky,” one of the comments reads. “Nothing ‘incredible’ here… Maybe an Ozempic candidate tho” another person wrote. In the stills that follow, Sweeney is seen lifting massive tires, working out with weights, and boxing in the ring. Though she doesn’t say anything and there’s no caption on the post, the message is clear: body shamers be damned.

In an interview with Deadline, Michôd said, “The film is about Christy as a young gay woman in small town Virginia in the 1990s. She came from a relatively conservative family and wasn’t allowed to be who she was so she used boxing as a vehicle to express herself and her rage.

Sydney Sweeney To Play Trailblazing Boxer Christy Martin In New Biopic For Director David Michôd
Image
Has Sydney Sweeney found a sneaky way to get ripped and find an excuse to punch out anyone who gives her trouble? That remains to be seen, but she certainly appears ready to train to play noted female boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic from The King's David Michôd.

Written by Michôd alongside Mirrah Foulkes, the yet-to-be-titled biopic charts the rise of Martin, who grew up gay in a conservative family in small town Virginia. 1091 Acquires Global Rights To Horror Documentary ‘The Mothman Legacy’
Image
Exclusive: 1091 has taken worldwide digital and broadcast rights to the horror documentary The Mothman Legacy, we can report exclusively.

The doc was initially set to premiere at the Mothman Festival on Sept. 18. That event was cancelled due to Covid-19 and The Mothman Legacy will now be released exclusively on digital streaming platforms on Oct. 20.

The Mothman Legacy follows the American urban myth about a red-eyed creature seen by some as a harbinger of doom in 1960s rural West Virginia, where sightings of the winged demonic beast were first documented near an old munitions dump known by locals as TNT. Many believe the Mothman to be a 1960’s phenomenon, an omen only appearing before tragedy, and disappearing after a flap of sightings and the subsequent Silver Bridge collapse in 1967. The doc delves into whether the origins of this omen trace back much further and go much deeper than anyone realized.

Seth Breedlove...

Wait, Does Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey Take Place in an Alternate Timeline?
Image
The comedy classic Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey may actually take place in an alternate timeline. Clues from the first Bill & Ted Face the Music trailer hint that alternate timelines are possible, especially as the Wyld Stallyns travel to the future and meet the jailed musclehead versions of themselves. There's also a glimpse of the duo playing air guitar with Death, and it looks like the apocalypse is happening just outside his office window. This could point to another timeline where Bill and Ted were never able to complete their song. Or perhaps, we're just looking at the feiry Hellscape where Death now resides?

However it shakes out, Bill & Ted Face the Music is definitely pointing to some huge time paradoxes that can only have a major ripple effect on past events, including distrupting what we've previously seen play out in the first two movies.

If this alternate timeline theory...

‘The Matrix 4’ is Bringing Back Original Concept Artists Geof Darrow and Steve Skroce
Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Pantoliano, and Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix (1999)
In the years following the release of 1999’s groundbreaking The Matrix, dozens of films and TV shows tried to ape the grim, apocalyptic world of the Wachowski’s films. But none could really nail the elaborate, weird, and grotesque designs that was crafted by The Matrix concept artists Geof Darrow and Steve Skroce, who along with Jim Martin, helped create the […]

'Bill & Ted Face the Music' Snags Rapper of Historical Significance
Kid Cudi
Bill & Ted Face the Music has added Grammy Award winning rapper Kid Cudi to the cast. The news comes after sequel star Alex Winter shared some storyboard art on social media, giving fans their first real look at the highly anticipated sequel. Production is expected to begin this month, presumably after Keanu Reeves, who appears to have cloned himself to be everywhere, finishes promoting Toy Story 4. The actor has been receiving rave reviews for his performance as Duke Caboom in the highly praised Pixar sequel.

A lot of the story details surrounding Bill & Ted 3 are under wraps currently. The same can be said for the role played by Kid Cudi in the sequel, which is currently unknown. Are the Wyld Stallyns going to expand the band to include a rapper? Probably not, but stranger things have happened. Rap infused rock just seems like something that came to prominence 20 years...

Amy Schumer Circling Dramatic Boxing Film ‘Christy Martin’
Exclusive: Amy Schumer, whose highly anticipated comedy I Feel Pretty opens this weekend wide from Stx, is now circling another Voltage Pictures project. Written and to be directed by Katherine Fugate (Valentine’s Day), Christy Martin is a true story about the world champion boxer of the same name who had to fight through a man’s world to gain success and later personally found herself fighting for her life. This would be a decided turn for Schumer as it is a gritty drama — but what a great story — about a woman who never gives up and who keeps going despite every odd against her.

Christy Martin came from little, rose up the ranks of her sport, found success but not true love until later in life. Once she realized who she was personally, she was then brutalized and left for dead by the man she trusted.

The project will be produced by Alix Madigan,...
