Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.

The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.

Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

The full song can be heard below now, featuring...

Chapter & Terse
The Fall - New Facts Emerge (Cherry Red)

For a band that has existed around the spiteful and brooding presence of Mark E. Smith for over thirty albums and forty years another release shouldn't pack many surprises but it does. Many have served under his difficult demands, being in The Fall almost a rite of passage, an induction by fire for many a Mancunian musician. Some never fully recuperate from the experience.

At his sneering malevolent best, Smith revolts into style with sublime swagger. The opening "Segue" is a drunken spoons hammering against beer glasses outburst that effortlessly slides into '"Fol De Rol" a guitar driven epic resembling Magazine at their most monochromatic and industrial. European in feel. It could easily pass as John Foxx period Ultravox at their most chillingly Germanic. A searing slab of Metal meets Art Rock. A public image uninhibited. "Brillo De Facto" is more conventional Fall-fare,...

Hank Marvin Donates Guitar To Charity
A guitar signed by Cliff Richard's guitarist Hank Marvin – of The Shadows – is to be auctioned for charity.

The red Fender Strat has been donated to Kirsty’s Charity, a charity set up by UK man Tom McDonald, whose 16-year-old daughter died of a heart attack in 2002. The charity aims to raise awareness of the need for organ donations and sends gifts to children in hospital.

‘The guitar is priceless and will only appreciate in value over the years," said McDonald. "I’m good at making contacts and Fender were kind enough to send me the Stratocaster which is the best of the best. Hank signed it while he was at a gig at the Hammersmith Apollo London, which makes it even more collectable."
