‘Beneath’ DVD Review
Stars: Brent Briscoe, Kurt Caceres, Eric Etebari, Jeff Fahey, Lauren Gores, Molly Hagan, Joey Kern, Ashway Lawver, Jason Masek, Larry Moran, Kelly Noonan, Rene Rivera, David Shackelford, Mark L. Young | Written by Patrick Doody, Chris Valenziano | Directed by Ben Ketai

The Descent arguably made being stuck underground scary again, with intelligent use of the darkness and just a hint of claustrophobia half of the job of scaring the audience was done before the creatures even made an appearance on screen. Beneath may not want to be compared to Neil Marshall’s movie, but as a fan I can’t help but compare the two.

Beneath may claim it is inspired by true events, but we know that this is a statement that is used as a marketing tool to get attention but means nothing when it comes to historical fact. In the movie we see a crew of coal miners trapped 600 feet below the ground.

'Beneath' Clip Brings a Deadly Coal Mine Collapse | Exclusive
Jeff Fahey
Trapped underground by a massive collapse, a crew of coal miners struggles for survival and sanity. We have an exclusive clip from the new thriller Beneath, which teases this horrifying true story, setting up the events that will lead to an intense struggle for survival. Check out Jeff Fahey, Joey Kern and Kelly Noonan as the walls come crashing down on them, on VOD this Friday, June 27, before its debut in theaters July 25.

Inspired by actual events: at a coal mine in a blue-collar town it's the last day of work for veteran miner George Marsh (Jeff Fahey). His daughter Samantha (Kelly Noonan), a feisty environmental lawyer whose politics are bitterly opposed by her father, celebrates the occasion by accompanying him underground. She's escorted by old flame Randy Bennings (Joey Kern); no sooner do they descend to the coal face, however, than a drilling machine malfunctions and punches through a supporting wall.

IFC Midnight announced a June 13 VOD release for Alex de la Iglesia’s horror comedy Witching & Bitching. Witching's ensemble cast boasts some of Spain’s biggest film and TV stars, such as Mario Casas (I Want You), Hugo Silva (Sex, Parties and Lies), and Carmen Maura, who earned a Best Actress award at San Sebastian in 2000 for her role in Commonwealth. Further cast members are Terele Pavez, Carolina Bang, Secun de la Rosa, Pepon Nieto, and Jaime Ordonez.

The flick centers on a band of thieves trying to flee to France after purloining 25,000 gold rings from a Spanish city. A curse is placed on them, and they fall into the clutches of the witches of the Navarrese town of Zugarramurdi.
