Dark and Stormy Night
Image
It’s a Larry Blamire film, and it’s composed of entirely New and Unique elements: a lonely mansion, strange servants, the reading of the will, weird heirs, death threats, snoopy reporters, a midnight seance, mysterious locked rooms, the clutching hands of a phantom menace, and the ultimate terror, Kogar the mighty ape. All new, right? This ‘nothing you’ve ever seen before’ is performed by Blamire’s nimble acting clan, all competing to immortalize some of the silliest dialogue ever written. Two versions of the screwball-nostalgic farce are present on this special edition disc, along with the usual disturbingly offbeat selection of Blamire extras.

Extraction Shoot Had Chris Hemsworth Feeling Rather Intimidated
Image
From the looks of him, you would not think that Thor star Chris Hemsworth could be intimidated by anything. The man is practically a walking, talking set of biceps. Well, looks can be deceiving, as Hemsworth has opened up about his apprehension when it came to filming the action scenes for his hugely popular Netflix movie, Extraction.

"They had the main stunt coordinator, stunt director from [Avengers: Endgame] wanting to direct it. So the group of us got together and wanted us to make the most insane action film that was around. To push the envelope and do things that were fairly unique to the action space. Very little special effects. Very little blue screen/green screen - just do it all in-camera. So, it was an intimidating thing to launch into at the start just because it meant the nature of the way we were shooting we couldn't have...

Extraction 2 Is Officially Happening at Netflix
Image
It has been just over a week since release, and the Chris Hemsworth-led actioner Extraction has proven to be a massive hit for Netflix, having garnered the highest premiere numbers for an original movie ever seen on the streaming service. So, it should come as no surprise that Extraction 2 has now been greenlit, with Avengers: Endgame's Joe Russo once again penning the script.

The follow-up is set to be produced by Anthony and Joe Russo, aka The Russo Brothers, who of course also produced the first movie. Production will be done under their Agbo banner, who are also currently looking to bring back director Sam Hargrave to helm the Extraction 2 and bring Hemsworth back to reprise his role as the mercenary with a death wish, Tyler Rake. Though currently, sources are reporting that the streaming service has no plans to sign those deals until the script is complete.

Larry Blamire on the set of Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Trail of the Screaming Forehead + The Lost Skeleton Returns Again
Larry Blamire on the set of Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Cult nonsense filmmaking finds its Ultimate in Larry Blamire’s pair of monster-rally comedies, that parody classic cheapo sci-fi thrillers. The spot-on spoofery nails the genre’s hyper-earnest characterizations and affectionately stilted acting. The only disconnect are the high production values lavished on these personal films: remastered for reissue, they look and sound almost too good for authenticity’s sake. Separate purchases, each with bounteous extras, including Larry Blamire’s weird ‘reanimated movie classics.’

Mr. Grey Breaks His Promise in Fifty Shades Darker TV Spot
E.L. James
"This time...No rules. No punishments. And no secrets!' That's what Anastasia Steele asks of Christian Grey as they resume their torrid affair in a new sneak peek at the hugely anticipated romantic thriller Fifty Shades Darker. Only, the shadowy figure creeping around in their bedroom late at night, and in the kitchen the next day clearly indicates that Mr. Grey is not a man of his word.

An all-new TV spot dropped for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel last night during the Latin Grammys. And it is filled with suspense. Intrigue. Mystery. Masquerade balls. And, oh yeah, a lot of steamy kisses in the shower and as much bare skin as network TV will allow during prime time. This is shaping up to be one of 2017's biggest blockbuster releases, and you can believe it's going to deliver a shock or two not in the original best selling novel by E.L. James.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
Fifty Shades Darker Gets R Rating for Sexual Content and Graphic Nudity
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
It looks like Fifty Shades Darker has dodged the Nc-17 rating, much like the first flick Fifty Shades of Grey. The highly anticipated sequel of the blockbuster hit has just been given an R rating for, well, "strong erotic sexual content, some graphic nudity and language," according to the MPAA issued statement. The upcoming flick will see Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan return to the big screen once again as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. Eric Johnson, Bella Heathcote, Luke Grimes, Marcia Gay Harden, Robin Lee, Hugh Dancy, Rita Ora, Elena Lincoln, Kim Basinger, Fay Masterson and Eloise Mumford are all also signed on for the film. Fifty Shades Darker is slated for a Feb. 10, 2017...

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
Fifty Shades Darker Is R-Rated for Graphic Nudity and Sexual Content
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
The one big question most fans have going into the hugely anticipated sequel Fifty Shades Darker is: Will we get to see Jamie Dornan in all his full frontal glory? Perhaps, if the official MPAA rating's promise lives up to its full potential. This sequel to 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey didn't land the dreaded Nc-17 rating some were (sort of) hoping for. Instead, it will land in theaters with a Hard R rating.

There is no need to worry that Universal Pictures is toning down the the plot of Fifty Shades Darker, a sequel based directly on E.L. James' steamy romance novel of the same name. The movie is rated R for good reason. Here's what the MPAA issued for the upcoming drama that also stars Dakota Johnson, who showed a fair amount of skin in the first movie.

"strong erotic sexual content, some graphic nudity, and language.

Fifty Shades Darker Teaser And Poster Invite You Back To The Fold
You know how Hollywood sequels are so often marketed as “darker” and “grittier” than their cinematic forebear? Fifty Shades Darker stands as a rare exception in that it is quite literally darker than its hit predecessor in both name and nature.

Now, in preparation for tomorrow’s trailer reveal, Universal and Focus Features have lifted the velvet curtain on the first teaser and one-sheet for James Foley’s erotic sequel, heralding the return of both Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) as the Internet’s favorite trainwreck couple.

Based on E. L. James’ best-selling novel series, Fifty Shades Darker opens as so: “Daunted by the singular tastes and dark secrets of the beautiful, tormented young entrepreneur Christian Grey, Anastasia has broken off their relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house.”

A Dark and Stormy Night and A Comedic Whodunit: A Movie Review
Director/writer: Larry Blamire.

Parody is sometimes used as a profession of love of a genre, and it is used to great effect in Dark and Stormy Night. For the era it is set in, the Golden Age of Hollywood, writer/director Larry Blamire shows his extravagance in what he does best–writing comedy dialogue. Instead of focusing on the pulps from the yesteryears, as he's done with Lost Skeleton of Cadavara and The Lost Skeleton Returns, he plays with the murder mystery genre.

After two tries, the third product he made is uniquely charming–especially for those who are familiar with the 30's whodunit genre. One would expect that the butler did it but no, what he does is to take all the conventions and blend it into one huge mixing pot this time around.

This film does a better job at invoking the fun that the comedic greats of the time did.

The Lost Skeleton Returns Again and Simple Enjoyment: A Movie review
Writer/Director: Larry Blamire.

Larry Blamire is back in the director's helm in The Lost Skeleton Returns Again. This time, he is embarking on a sequel that largely borrows on the pulps that is seen on Saturday matinees. This one has the same charm as the original movie, and the DVD is not as jam-packed with bonus material. All there is this time is a behind-the-scenes featurette which replaces the commentary track.

This director continues in his tradition of lampooning the genre. The Lost Skeleton is just one figure that's lurking behind the scenes trying to manipulate events. His body was crushed in the original film and now he is capable of flight. Why he would bother with a new body when flying around is cooler - may be beyond the scope of most modern thinking. This product is one best watched with the brain matter turned off.

Hidden somewhere,...

Larry Blamire on the set of Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Larry Blamire Renaissance Man
Larry Blamire on the set of Trail of the Screaming Forehead
Interviewed by Jessie Lilley

And just what is a “Renaissance Man” anyway? No, I’m not referring to the Voyager episode and I’m also not talking about the Penny Marshall film. In this context, the term Renaissance Man is defined as a person who excels at many different endeavors: the guy can do a lot of stuff and he does it all quite well. Such a one is the subject of this interview.

Larry Blamire first came across my radar when he and I were both living in Hollywood. I was at a private screening in the home of a friend of mine and he rolled a film called The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. I was transfixed. What a delightful way to spend some time; laughing yourself silly. I immediately found a way to contact this man as I wanted to know what makes him tick.

It’s now years later and,...

The Lost Skeleton Returns in August on a Dark and Stormy Night
If you're a fan of Larry Blamire's The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, then August 17th is a date you might want to mark on your calendar. On that day Shout! Factory unspools a double dose of Larry Blamire low-budget comic homages to b-movies of bygone days as both the sci-fi sequel The Lost Skeleton Returns Again and Dark and Stormy Night, Blamire's ode to 1930's old dark house flicks, make their way to DVD.

The whole Lost Skeleton of Cadavra crew reunite for Blamire's follow-up that continues the tradition of lovingly spoofing the b-movies of the Fifties and Sixties.

Dr. Paul Armstrong (Larry Blamire), missing in the jungle for two years and now a bitter alcoholic because science let him down, is needed by government man Reet Pappin (Frank Dietz) to help find a powerful new rock, Jerranium 90. ‘Sex and the Austen Girl’ Finds Original Twist, and Babelgum
There’s a long standing debate over the presence of originality in derivative works—or, how much creative value does say, a spoof of an already über-popular Beyoncé-Lady Gaga video really have? The subsidiary version clearly borrows from the original, milking the internet zeitgeist for attention (and dollars) while never eclipsing its master. The flipside is of course the derivative that transcends the original, breaking both itself and the original into a new orbit of relevance—see: Numa Numa. Somewhere in between those two poles lies a whole sea of creative output that could go either way. In web series, the title is usually the first giveaway. Sex and the Austen Girl launched today on Babelgum, a twenty-episode web series based on the best-selling Penguin novels, Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict, by Laurie Viera Rigler. Thankfully its name is misleading enough not to box this one into the...

Pontypool (2008)
DVD horror news #1: Pontypool, Hard Revenge Milly, Lost Skeleton, etc.
Pontypool (2008)
• IFC Films and Mpi Media Group gave Fango the first look at cover art for their DVD release of Pontypool (pictured), the acclaimed and unusual zombie thriller starring Stephen McHattie. Also coming this winter from the two companies is another well-received genre film, the Argentinean ghost story The Appeared.

Directed by Bruce McDonald and scripted by Tony Burgess from his book, Pontypool (streeting January 26; see our review here) casts McHattie as a shock jock who, one cold early winter morning, starts receiving mysterious reports from outside about violent and frightening acts committed by the local townspeople. It turns out that they’re infected with a spreading plague that is transmitted via speech and turns them into bloodthirsty killers. In The Appeared (a.k.a. Aparecidos, out January 12), writer/director Paco Cabezas spins the tale of a brother and sister who discover a diary documenting horrific murder and torture 20 years before.

Over The Top Fest 2009: Visioneers Review
Visioneers Directed by: Jared Drake Written by: Brandon Drake Starring: Zach Galifianakis, Judy Greer, Fay Masterson, James LeGros My first introduction to Zach Galifianakis was through his association with Tim and Eric of the Adult Swim show Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!. His bizarre and deadpan sense of humour along with his trademark unkempt beard gave him instant appeal and a strong cult following, but it was not yet clear if the mainstream was quite ready for him. Now, with the upcoming Todd Phillips movie The Hangover about to usher him into major multiplexes, it seems that Galifianakis has officially made it as a comedy star, whether audiences are ready or not. Up to this point, the majority of his acting experience has been on the small screen, but aside from a few minor roles in What Happens in Vegas and Into The Wild, he also headlined an...

Alone With Her and Sam's Lake (Tribeca Flashback Review)
Alone With Her opens with a title card that offers statistics on how common stalking has become in this electronic age, but part of what makes the movie work is how specific and personal its plotline is. Writer/director Eric Nicholas‘ second feature is a form-follows-function modern-video movie in the Blair Witch mode, with everything seen through cameras that are integral to the story—only here, the point of view is that of the threatening antagonist instead of the imperiled victim. Colin Hanks gets top billing and makes a creepy impression as Doug, a bookish and awkward young man who breaks into the house of a woman he’s become fixated on, installing tiny hidden video cameras to watch her every move. But the movie belongs to Mexican actress Ana Claudia Talancón, who plays Amy, the object of Doug’s twisted affections who is literally center screen throughout. The movie...
