Episode 2 of Dune: Prophecy closed out with a face-off between what are widely viewed as the show's most interesting characters, and it looks like the shocking developments that followed have taken their toll on Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson).
Spoilers follow.
Towards the end of "Two Wolves," Valya returned to Salusa Secundus to find herself confronted by the enigmatic Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), who had previously admitted to using his strange pyrotechnic abilities to murder both Revered Mother Kasha (Jinhae) and the young Pruwet Richese (Charlie Hodson-Prior).
Upon learning that Hart - who apparently survived being swallowed by a sandworm on Arrakis - had made it his mission to wipe out the Sisterhood entirely, Valya uses "the Voice" to command the soldier to plunge his own dagger into his throat. Incredibly, Hart manages to resist the order.
"I always wondered what your greatest fear would be," he responds. "Now I have seen it.

Tonight marked the premiere of Dune: Prophecy, a new TV show set in the Dune universe, but set some 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides. The Bene Gesserit sisterhood is just starting to really establish itself as an invaluable organization to the great houses of the Imperium, with Truthsaying sisters stationed with ever important leader in the known universe. That includes Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong), who rules the Imperium from the Golden Lion Throne on the planet of Salusa Secundus.
The emperor has a colorful family. His wife, the Empress Natalya (Jodhi May), doesn't always agree with his decisions; his daughter and heir apparent Princess Ynez wants to train with the Bene Gesserit; and his bastard son Constantine (Josh Heuston) is something of a royal layabout. He's rich enough that he doesn't have to work, but he's also not in line for the throne, so he doesn't feel...

The first time I watched the series premiere of Dune: Prophecy, I was afraid I wasn't going to like the show. "The Hidden Hand" kicks off with a 15-minute lore dump, catching viewers up on decades of pre-history. We learn about the Machine Wars, which mankind barely won against the thinking machines that enslaved us; we banned all thinking machines afterwards. We learn about how orders like the Bene Gesserit sprung up to replace thinking machines; the Bene Gesserit sisters have trained to become human lie detectors, making themselves invaluable to the great houses of the Imperium. We learn about Raquella Berto-Anirul (Cathy Tyson), the first leader of the Bene Gesserit, who passed her skills onto the young Valya Hakonnen. We see scenes from a nasty power struggle that follows Raquella's death, and only then do we jump forward to catch up with Valya as an older, more experienced sister who's now running the order,...

We have some great news for Dune fans! While we have to wait until Dec. 18, 2026, for Dune: Part 3 starring Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, the world of Dune is expanding with a new prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, coming to HBO and Max on Sunday, Nov. 17!
According to HBO, Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the book, Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The prequel series is set about 10,000 years before the events of Dune and Paul Atreides' arrival on Arrakis.
In the series, Emily Watson and Olivia Williams star as Mother Superior Valya and Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen, respectively, as the sisters, in a time of great need, establish the Bene Gesserit, which obviously looms very large in the Dune universe.

HBO’s new prequel series dives deep into the origins of the Bene Gesserit, unraveling secrets that set the stage for the epic battles seen in the recent “Dune” movies.
With “Dune Part Two” dropping earlier this year – finishing where “Dune” left off, the modern adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, “Dune” is officially complete. Plot: From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.
Review: Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune has proven that once considered unadaptable, Frank Herbert’s novels could make for critical and commercial successes in the right creative hands. With the first film nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and Dune: Part Two destined for the same honor, the franchise’s future has never been more in the zeitgeist. Seizing the opportunity to explore other formats and media, Warner Bros and HBO have developed Dune: Prophecy. As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, the review embargo for Dune: Prophecy lifted earlier today and the response to the six-episode HBO series is so far mostly positive. While this is technically a prequel to the Dune movies, Denis Villeneuve isn't involved and the massive time gap means there will be no crossovers.
For the most part, it sounds like Dune: Prophecy is a worthy addition to the sci-fi franchise, even if it doesn't necessarily break the mould. For fans of Villeneuve's groundbreaking movies, that's likely to come as something of a let-down.
In The Hollywood Reporter's review, it's said, "Even though it’s part of a brand, Dune: Prophecy has lots of elements to introduce, and the series is already a slow, sometimes lugubrious build. But I found myself becoming increasingly invested as it went along. Maybe by the end of the first season, I’ll be hooked.

When writing about the future, the past is a great source of inspiration, so it's no wonder that a lot of science fiction authors are also history nerds. Denis Villeuneuve's recent adaptation of "Dune" is set around 20,000 years in humanity's future, but it has the feel of a historical fantasy, with its elaborate costumes, bare stone architecture, and a coven of scheming witches called the Bene Gesserit.
This goes right back to the source material. "Dune" author Frank Herbert was greatly influenced by Lesley Blanch's 1960 non-fiction work "The Sabres of Paradise": a chronicle of the legendary resistance leader Imam Shamil, who united the tribes of North Caucasus and used guerrilla tactics to unleash hell on the invading Russian imperial army. Herbert's description of the Muad'dib as "warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, foxy and innocent, chivalrous and ruthless" is taken almost verbatim from Blanch's description of Shamil.

"Everything to love, and nothing to hate." This is also exactly what I'm hoping for with this show. HBO has unveiled a promo featurette for the new sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, which will begin streaming on Max later this week. Looks like it'll be worth the wait. Set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, before the universe knew them as the Bene Gesserit... This is directly connected to Denis Villeneuve's two (so far) brilliant Dune movies but takes place in the distant past. Based on the book "Sisterhood of Dune" by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert (Frank's son). This exciting behind-the-scenes look at the epic interplanetary series includes tons of making of shots + interview bits edited into clips of footage from the big sci-fi series. Dune: Prophecy stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, Chris Mason, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Tabu, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina,...

He who controls the franchises, controls the world! Denis Villeneuve had not even completed the first half of his two-part Dune adaptation before plans for a TV spin-off were announced in 2019 — it was already obvious that his particular spice world would be fertile ground for future intellectual-property harvesting. Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic had been brought to the small screen before, but this new HBO series would build off of Villeneuve’s vision and borrow from the 2012 novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian “Son of Frank” Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

HBO’s latest venture into the universe of Dune with the upcoming series ‘Dune: Prophecy’ seems to be channeling a cosmic version of ‘Game of Thrones’.
The new clip from the show has ignited conversations among fans, drawing comparisons to memorable dynamics like those seen in early ‘Game of Thrones’ episodes, reminiscent of the sharp exchanges between Olenna Tyrell and Cersei Lannister.
Slated for a November 17, 2024 premiere, ‘Dune: Prophecy’ is a six-episode series that acts as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s ongoing Dune film trilogy.

We are close to the end of the year, but there are still several shows on the way for us. If you’re already subscribed to Max, you are well aware that Dune: Prophecy (one of the most anticipated series of the year) finally arrives in November. But if that’s not your thing, don’t worry there’s more to watch.
First off, we have Like Water For Chocolate, kicking off the month on Nov. 3 with weekly episodes. Like Water For Chocolate is set to feature a total of six chapters. Now, this is an interesting one. The drama series showcases how traditions can, and often should, be broken, especially when they begin to feel like prison. Like Water For Chocolate stars Irene Azuela, Azul Guaita, Ana Valeria, and others.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two was the first blockbuster of the year and what better than to close it off with another revisit to Arrakis? Max’s Dune: Prophecy is all set to debut on the streaming platform soon and the recent trailer promises an intense political drama with action-packed sequences.
While Dune: Part Two writer Jon Spaihts was initially set to be the showrunner, he left to work on the film and was promptly replaced by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker. The six-episode series will reportedly be set 10,000 years before the movies and will focus on the Bene Gesserit. Here is everything you need to know about Dune: Prophecy.

Get ready to jump back into the world of Dune with HBO's new spinoff series, Dune: Prophecy. Taking place 10,000 years before the events of the 2021 film, the show — developed by Alison Schapker (Westworld) and Diane Ademu-John (Medium) — shows us how the super-powered sisterhood known as the Bene Gesserit comes to be, and how Harkonnen sisters Valya and Tula navigate the many threats against them.
The impressive cast of Dune: Prophecy includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Jodhi May, and other familiar faces, along with newcomers Chloe Lea, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and more. Having seen the first two episodes of the prequel, I can tease that it's worth watching. The exclusive and mysterious sisterhood is one of my favorite parts of the Dune movies, so getting a chance to dig deeper into their lore is a thrill, plus the acting, writing, cinematography, and costumes are solid.

HBO has just dropped the official trailer for Dune: Prophecy (via SFFGazette.com) following a star-studded panel at the New York Comic-Con. It's also been revealed that the six-episode series premieres on Sunday, November 17 at 9pm Et/Pt.
If you're unfamiliar with Frank Herbert's Dune books, you may struggle to make sense of what you see here. There's a great deal of political intrigue, though, with the spotlight put primarily on Bene Gesserit's mysterious origins.
Talking to Screen Rant earlier today, executive producer Allison Schapkey explained how this iteration of the group differs from what we've seen in Denis Villeneuve's Dune movies.
"I think when you see the Bene Gesserit in the films, first of all, you're really seeing their forward face. They cultivate such a mystique, such a mystery. And they're out there being ruthless and decisive and powerful and trying to play every angle and manipulate every possible outcome.

"The Imperium is a circus of fear and rumor. I'm surrounded by vipers!" Whoa! This looks awesome. WB has revealed their full official trailer for the epic new sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, a spin-off show that will stream on Max in November. It's the best trailer yet! A better intro from the novel: "It is eighty-three years after the last of the thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler took the name of Corrino and established himself as the first Emperor of a new Imperium. Great changes are brewing that will...
