10 Nuclear War Movies That Are Downright Terrifying
Image
The threat of nuclear war has existed ever since the conception of the nuclear bomb, its lingering presence remaining a huge source of anxiety for people across the world. There have been spikes in that anxiety across various decades, whether it be the Cuban missile crisis or the Cold War tension of the 1980s. Film has attempted many times to understand what the experience of a nuclear war will feel like, the shared anxiety proving powerful enough to spawn an entire sub-genre of nuclear war movies.

Movies addressing the subject of nuclear war have to reckon with the real horror that we have seen committed by nuclear weapons. We know how scary these weapons are and how devastating they can be, so any movie covering the subject will inevitably become somewhat of a horror. There are many films that have dared approach the subject, but there are only a few...

Threads Opens the Eyes of Viewers to the Horrors of Nuclear War: A Film Review
Tagline: "The Closest You Ever Want to Come to Nuclear War is...Threads!" Director: Mick Jackson. Writer: Barry Hines. Cast: Karen Meagher, Reece Dinsdale, David Brierly, Rita May and Nicholas Lane. The original Threads debuted on BBC 2, in 1984. At that time, it was the most popular cable movie to date. In its debut, the film drew over 7 million viewers. The film, from BBC exec' and director Mick Jackson, covered a nuclear exchange between western nations and Russia. The results are truly terrifying. This re-release, through Severn Films, hosts a number of extras, including interviews with the crew. The story itself is a dire look at surviving a nuclear strike. It might be best to succumb to the initial blast. The visuals and the storytelling come across as authentic, thanks to several scientists and consultants. The tone, of the film, is light initially; but, it darkens after the strike. A difficult watch,...

Threads
Hey kids! Learn about the great time we’ll be having if the world powers plunge us into a nuclear winter! This post-atomic horror show traumatized England in 1984, and thanks to the liberal media magnate Ted Turner, even saw some airings in the U.S.. The most extreme prime-time response to Ronald Reagan’s heating up of the Cold War standoff, it remains an honest look at a possible grim future, that rubs our noses in the full consequences of a nuclear exchange.

Review: Power Rangers Taps into the Over-the-Top Fun of its Source Material
When you pit dinosaur robots against a massive monster made out of gold, you’re better off not taking yourself too seriously. Thankfully, for the most part, the new Power Rangers movie from Saban and Lionsgate embraces its sillier side while still delivering a surprisingly grounded story, gold-eating space witch and all.

What if The Breakfast Club had a lot more on their plates than figuring each other out and writing that essay for Assistant Principal Vernon? That’s the type of approach taken in the new Power Rangers movie, as a group of outcasts in detention band together to form the titular team after finding some glowing, otherworldly goodies at the local mine. And similar to John Hughes’ beloved characters, these teens are much deeper and complex than the stereotypical labels society has placed on them.

The film delivers refreshing new takes on the characters from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series.

'Power Rangers' Review: Dark and Gritty and Wonderfully Silly
Elizabeth Banks, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, and RJ Cyler in Power Rangers (2017)
You shouldn't judge a whatever by it's whatever, but the title chosen for the 2017 reboot of Power Rangers says quite a bit. It sheds the only slightly more dorky "Mighty Morphin'" of the TV series, positioning itself as another dark and gritty reimagining of something you loved when you were 11. Like that Nsfw James Van Der Beek fan film meets The Breakfast Club. (Or if you loooove corporate entities, go with the full title: Saban's Power Rangers.)

The plot will still be familiar to any '90s kid worth their weight in Dunkaroos: Five teens with attitude stumble upon a set of candy-colored crystal coins buried in a rock quarry and are unwittingly imbued with super powers. (Know what's more unrealistic than a bunch of teen superheroes? Five teenagers just hanging out at a mine.) Shortly thereafter, they meet Zordon in an abandoned spaceship and are tasked with saving the galaxy from Rita Repulsa and her henchmonsters...

Last Nights TV: Trollied Series 1, Episode 5 Review
Sky One’s ambitious 2011 continues to throw out original programming after the huge success that was Mad Dogs. Trollied is of a different mould altogether, but a statement of Sky One’s intent to push their own shows none the less. The problem is with original programming is that sometimes it just isn’t original enough.

After seeing the seemingly endless amount of adverts attempting to woo me and the rest of the nation over to Sky One on a Thursday night for their supermarket sitcom Trollied, last night I caved in. Partly due to a slow night on the box once Id watched the bore of a Spurs vs. Hearts match.

So Trollied…. A group of people work in a fictional supermarket. A few decent TV names such as Jane Horrocks as Deputy Manager Julie, Mark Addy as butcher Andy and the oddly camp Jason Watkins off of Psychoville playing the Store Manager Gavin.

Julie Benz: From 'Dexter' to 'Desperate Housewives'
Julie Benz
Julie Benz' character Rita may have died one of the most gruesome deaths in recent television memory, but count on a Dexter character to jump out of a rut and into something possibly even more gruesome - Wisteria Lane. Do I hear yikes?

Benz, 37, who abruptly departed the Showtime series on its fourth season closer, was cast in a recurring role on Desperate Housewives. She'll play Debbie, a stripper with a heart of gold and a Masters degree in education, whom Susan (Teri Hatcher) offers a chance to transition into a more legitimate and maybe less sparsely dressed career. Deb, of course, jumps at the opportunity.

However, as Jack continued to feel a hindrance in Tyrone and Molly's (Vicky Binns) marital home, he decided to look for a new place to live. Corrie's May inspired by real-life loss

He was at the Edinburgh Festival and he came off stage and he said, 'I didn't feel very well, was that Ok?', and collapsed and five days later he died.
