Starz’s much-anticipated Outlander prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will premiere this summer. The network dropped a 50-second teaser one day ahead of the season seven finale of Outlander.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will “explore the lives and relationship of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), and Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England,” reads Starz’s synopsis. “From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, two fated love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.”

Brian McCardie, the Scottish actor who portrayed the younger brother of Liam Neeson’s titular hero in Michael Caton-Jones’ historical drama Rob Roy, has died. He was 59.

McCardie died “suddenly at home” on Sunday, his sister Sarah announced on X. “A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon,” she wrote.

Damaged strains credulity from the start and proceeds to lower Iq points with each passing frame. The biggest problem, and central to the supposed mystery, is the competence of the investigators. A melodramatic subplot further muddies these dreadful waters. Doubly so because one of the victims was his own girlfriend whom he discovered, her head and limbs in the shape of a cross, her torso missing.

In Edinburgh, Detective Glen Boyd finds himself investigating a murder that looks to be the work of the same person. He reaches out to the Chicago Pd, who are only too happy to put Lawson on the next flight to Scotland. Fortunately, there weren’t any motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights from Participant to “A Compassionate Spy,” the new documentary from Steve James. The film, which world premiered at the Venice Film Festival ahead of its North American launch at Telluride, is a real-life spy story about Manhattan Project physicist Ted Hall, who provided nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union, told through the perspective of his wife Joan, who protected his secret for decades. Magnolia will release the film in theaters later this year.

Irvine Welsh made his reputation with both the novel and the filmed version of Trainspotting, with the latter creating the cinematic language that has been borrowed by every adaptation of his work that’s followed. The most recent big screen Welsh adaptation is Filth, which was written for the screen and directed by Jon S. Baird and stars James McAvoy as Detective Bruce Robertson, a corrupt cop who’s got some issues at home and in the workforce. There are times when I’m reminded just why I love the British movie industry and the films they produce. Over the last month I reviewed The Selfish Giant, and now I’ve had the chance to watch For Those in Peril and these are two movies that show not only how brave film-making can be, but also how powerful when done correctly. British cinema is great at taking quaint environments and turning them into Hell. We also have a penchant for misery and wasted lives, both of which you’ll find abundantly in Paul Wright’s impressive feature debut For Those in Peril, a keyhole into the social mechanics of a small fishing community in Scotland.

After a tragic accident takes the lives of five young fishermen, Aaron (George MacKay), the sole survivor of the tragedy which also claimed his older brother, is left in a steadily growing state of social detachment as the town around focuses their grief on him. Mackay shines as a social outcast, a loner before the tragedy and even more so after with little to live for in a town...

Joe Cole and Phil Davis are starring in crime film Peterman, while shooting is about to finish on The Pilgrim: The Best Story of Paulo Coelho.

Shooting has just commenced in Dunstable on Mark Abraham’s Peterman, which follows the story of a young junkie (Joe Cole) who is kidnapped by a criminal gang and forced to crack open a safe using skills taught to him by the gang’s former ‘Peterman’ (safe cracker), his deceased grandfather (Phil Davis). Alison Steadman, Peter Bowles, Brian McCardie, Kenny Doughty, Stuart Graham and Adam Nagaitis also feature.

The crime film is based on the screenplay by Andy Bloom and is produced by Control Films and Talent Films with Darren Pratt and Tim Phillips acting as producer and Tony Humphreys executive producing.

The feature follows the story of a young junkie (Joe Cole) who is kidnapped by a criminal gang and forced to crack open a safe using skills taught to him by the gang’s former ‘Peterman’ (safe cracker), his deceased grandfather (Phil Davis).

No favorable review I've ever written has inspired more disbelief than my three stars for "Speed 2." Even its star, Sandra Bullock, started mentioning in interviews her disgust with herself for agreeing to star in it. It's frequently cited as an example of what a lousy critic I am. (Note well: Siskel also gave it thumbs up.) All the same, I'm grateful to movies that show me what I haven't seen before, and "Speed 2" had a cruise ship plowing right up the main street of a Caribbean village. In the spring of 1999, at the University of Colorado's Conference on World Affairs, I argued that movies like this weren't as easy to make as it might appear. In a moment of madness I announced in self defense a contest for a new "Speed 3." The rules were: It should be on VHS, no longer than five minutes long, and must involve something that cannot stop moving.

AMC has a new scripted drama. "Low Winter Sun," one of the six projects that came through the network's annual "bake-off" in April, was given a pilot order in may. Today, the channel announced it was picking up the crime show to series for a first season of ten hour-long episodes. "Low Winter Sun" is an adaptation of a 2006 UK miniseries of the same name written by Simon Donald and starring Mark Strong ("Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy," "Zero Dark Thirty") and Brian McCardie.
