Outlander prequel boss confirms there is more story for a potential season 2
Image
Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, hasn't even premiered yet but we definitely already can't wait until the show is on our screens Aug. 8, 2025, on Starz! Getting the chance to delve deeper into the history of Jamie and Claire through the love stories of their parents is honestly a dream come true for us fans. Especially as we wait out this Droughtlander for the eighth and final season. We're always thinking ahead to what could be next, and it seems like the prequel might not be a limited series.

In speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner and producer Matthew B. Roberts shared how the upcoming historical drama is planning to handle the sudden passing of Brian McCardie, who was set to play clan chieftain Isaac Grant. The actor was able to film some scenes, but not all of them. To honor him, the series will include what he was able to film,...

How Outlander: Blood of My Blood is handling the unfortunate passing of Brian McCardie
Image
Outlander: Blood of My Blood arrives this summer, and with it being a prequel to epic historical drama Outlander, that means we're going back in time - but not through the Stones - to gain some more insight into Jamie and Claire's parents, and the important and key players around them. One of those characters is Isaac Grant, chieftan of Clan Grant, played by actor Brian McCardie.

Unfortunately while filming the prequel series, McCardie passed away suddenly in April 2024 due to an aortic dissection. He was 59 years old. At that point, he hadn't finished filming all his scenes yet, which means there's parts of those that were left unfinished. So what are the producers going to do?

The Late Brian McCardie Will Not Be Recast in ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’
Image
Starz's epic romance series, Outlander, is drawing to an end, with its upcoming eighth and final season. After a decade of war, romance, passion and love, the love story between Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will come to, hopefully, a fitting ending. But that won't happen immediately, and for now our attention turns to the eagerly anticipated prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will hopefully carry on the legacy of the flagship series when it's done. The new show premieres on Friday, August 8, but sadly, one person who won't get to see its arrival is Scottish actor, Brian McCardie. McCardie portrays Isaac Grant in the forthcoming series, and the actor unexpectedly passed away in the spring of 2024 while Blood of My Blood was still in production. In honor of his memory, the prequel series will not recast the character.

"We lost Brian McCardie," series producer Matt Roberts tells Entertainment Weekly.

Damaged Review: Macabre Serial Killer Movie Lowers Iq Points
Image
Samuel L. Jackson leads a venerated European cast off a cliff in an absurd, mindless, and macabre serial killer thriller. Damaged strains credulity from the start and proceeds to lower Iq points with each passing frame. The seemingly straightforward plot of an American detective helping Scottish police find a Satanic murderer has numerous critical flaws. The biggest problem, and central to the supposed mystery, is the competence of the investigators. A melodramatic subplot further muddies these dreadful waters. Every psychotic murderer would be running loose like rabbits with these guys on the case.

Damaged opens in Edinburgh, Scotland, with a young woman (Nicolette McKeown) leaving her synagogue after worship. She doesn't see a mysterious man in a raincoat following from a distance. The shrouded figure knocks on her door with malicious intent. She foolishly opens to a frenzy of stabbing. The killer removes a hacksaw from a bag to begin his grisly work.

‘Damaged’ Review
Image
Stars: Samuel L. Jackson, Gianni Capaldi, Laura Haddock, Brian McCardie, Vincent Cassel | Written by Paul Aniello, Koji Steven Sakai, Gianni Capaldi | Directed by Terry McDonough

Five years ago, a serial killer terrorized Chicago. Detective Dan Lawson was assigned to the case but couldn’t bring the killer to justice. It left him a badly damaged man, drinking on the job and obsessed with revenge. Doubly so because one of the victims was his own girlfriend whom he discovered, her head and limbs in the shape of a cross, her torso missing.

In Edinburgh, Detective Glen Boyd finds himself investigating a murder that looks to be the work of the same person. He reaches out to the Chicago Pd, who are only too happy to put Lawson on the next flight to Scotland. Fortunately, there weren’t any motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.

Things, of course, don’t go well.

The character is a housekeeper in the Lovat household, which is good and all, but we’re super into how she’s also named after someone many devotees of author Diana Gabaldon will recognize: Davina Porter, who narrates the audiobook versions of Gabaldon’s Outlander book series.

Jackson (Pulp Fiction) and Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) in the lead roles and director Terry McDonough, whose previous credits include episodes of the TV shows Killing Eve, Better Call Saul, and Breaking Bad, at the helm. Now, just eight days shy of the one year anniversary of that news, a trailer for Damaged has arrived online, along with some release date information: the film will be receiving a theatrical, digital, and on demand release on April 12th. The trailer can be seen in the embed above.

Jackson and Cassel are joined in the cast by Kate Dickie (The Witch), Gianni Capaldi (A Day to Die), Laura Haddock (White Lines), Brian McCardie (Rob Roy), and John Hannah (The Mummy). Here’s the synopsis: How do you catch a brilliant monster?...

Image
"He's toying with you, Glen." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for the film Damaged, a mysterious serial killer action thriller from the UK. It's now set for release in the US in early April both on VOD and in theaters. The film follows Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, who travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Glen Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer who's crimes match an unsolved case that he also looked into five years previous in Chicago. What is the connection? Samuel L. Jackson stars as Lawson, and Scottish actor Gianni Capaldi co-stars as Boyd, also credited on co-writing the screenplay. The official synopsis asks: "How do you catch a brilliant monster?" So this is Silence of the Lambs again? The cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Laura Haddock, John Hannah, Katie Dickie, and Brian McCardie. This doesn't look as bad as it could,...

Line of Duty: Could Jo Davidson End Tommy Hunter’s Legacy For Good?
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Line of Duty series one to six.

Considering that Tommy Hunter has only appeared on screen in four of Line of Duty’s 36 episodes – once in real time, once in a video clip, once in flashback, and once as an unrecognisable bandage-wrapped burns victim – the character casts a long shadow over the police thriller. Whatever and whoever AC-12 has investigated over the years, Tommy’s organised crime group and corrupt officers have been somewhere in the mix, wearing balaclavas, slitting throats and making a mockery of the law.

Though he died in the series two opener, Tommy’s legacy endures. You might call him the show’s root antagonist, the daddy of the baddies. Trace the death of almost any guest star, from Tony Gates to Lindsay Denton to Danny Waldron to John Corbett, and, as the man who groomed Dot ‘The Caddy’ Cottan and Ryan Pilkington,...

Filth Blu-ray Review
Irvine Welsh made his reputation with both the novel and the filmed version of Trainspotting, with the latter creating the cinematic language that has been borrowed by every adaptation of his work that’s followed. The most recent big screen Welsh adaptation is Filth, which was written for the screen and directed by Jon S. Baird and stars James McAvoy as Detective Bruce Robertson, a corrupt cop who’s got some issues at home and in the workforce. But where it has some of the flash of Trainspotting, it seems more like a Chuck Palahniuk adaptation, replete with a terrible third act twist. My review of the Filth Blu-ray follows after the jump. The film opens with Bruce’s wife Carole (Shauna Macdonald) who suggests that she loves her husband, but hopes that by teasing his desires he will become the next Detective Inspector. She then she goes out for...

‘For Those in Peril’ DVD Review
Stars: George MacKay, Kate Dickie, Michael Smiley, Nichola Burley, Brian McCardie, Jordan Young, Conor McCarron, Lewis Howden | Written and Directed by Paul Wright

There are times when I’m reminded just why I love the British movie industry and the films they produce. Over the last month I reviewed The Selfish Giant, and now I’ve had the chance to watch For Those in Peril and these are two movies that show not only how brave film-making can be, but also how powerful when done correctly. It’s also interesting that this week this is the second movie that I’ve reviewed this week to stay George MacKay.

For Those in Peril is a movie about loss, and tells the story of Aaron (MacKay) the lone survivor of a fishing accident in a remote Scottish fishing village. Grieving for his brother who died in the accident he finds himself an outcast of the small community,...

Eiff 2013: ‘For Those in Peril’ Review
Stars: Kate Dickie, Michael Smiley, George MacKay, Nichola Burley, Brian McCardie, Gavin Park, Jordan Young | Written and Directed by Paul Wright

Review by Scott Clark of Cinehouse

British cinema is great at taking quaint environments and turning them into Hell. We also have a penchant for misery and wasted lives, both of which you’ll find abundantly in Paul Wright’s impressive feature debut For Those in Peril, a keyhole into the social mechanics of a small fishing community in Scotland.

After a tragic accident takes the lives of five young fishermen, Aaron (George MacKay), the sole survivor of the tragedy which also claimed his older brother, is left in a steadily growing state of social detachment as the town around focuses their grief on him. Mackay shines as a social outcast, a loner before the tragedy and even more so after with little to live for in a town...

"Speed 3"--Winner of my 1999 contest
No favorable review I've ever written has inspired more disbelief than my three stars for "Speed 2." Even its star, Sandra Bullock, started mentioning in interviews her disgust with herself for agreeing to star in it. It's frequently cited as an example of what a lousy critic I am. (Note well: Siskel also gave it thumbs up.) All the same, I'm grateful to movies that show me what I haven't seen before, and "Speed 2" had a cruise ship plowing right up the main street of a Caribbean village. In the spring of 1999, at the University of Colorado's Conference on World Affairs, I argued that movies like this weren't as easy to make as it might appear. In a moment of madness I announced in self defense a contest for a new "Speed 3." The rules were: It should be on VHS, no longer than five minutes long, and must involve something that cannot stop moving.

Mark Strong in Low Winter Sun (2013)

Fred Durst
[1] Our last couple editions of TV Bits have been filled with mostly good news, but today's is more of a downer, what with shows getting axed, a guy getting hurt, and, well, do you consider a Fred Durst sitcom bad news? At least AMC has some nice things to offer, including a new trailer for Hell on Wheels and some intriguing dramas in the works. After the jump: Charlie's Angels and Memphis Beat get cancelled Olivia Wilde leaves House Transporter star Chris Vance gets injured Fred Durst signs a deal with CBS Hell on Wheels gets a new trailer Earlier this week, ABC gave full-season orders to its freshman shows Suburgatory and Revenge, but the new crop isn't all winners.
