The series is a cop drama about two Navajo police officers named Leaphorn and Chee, who have to challenge their own beliefs when solving a double murder case. George R.R. Martin is unequivocally forever tied to the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which inspired the hit series Game of Thrones, and its prequel, House of the Dragon. However, the author has been involved in many other exciting projects that have nothing to do with the fantasy worlds.

One such example is the Western thriller series Dark Winds, for which Martin is a producer. A perfect whodunit, the highly underrated show has mostly fallen under the radar but received extreme praise for its performances and cultural representation. Per FlixPatrol, Dark Winds has just received a bump in the charts on AMC+, settling in eighth place.

Fans looking for a glimpse of dragons, realism, and fantasy will not get that with Dark Winds, but there is plenty of mystery and interesting characters. The AMC series follows Navajo Tribal Police officers, who are assigned to the Four Corners...

My biggest takeaway, as I’m picking my way through the nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, is how top-heavy the list is. Twenty-seven nominations for Severance! Twenty-four nominations for The Penguin! Twenty-three nominations apiece for The Studio and The White Lotus!

So many of these juggernauts received nominations so completely across the board — the dominance of White Lotus and Severance in the supporting categories is especially impressive — that I found myself more distracted by the standouts from those casts who didn’t get nominated than those who did. Where’s Rhenzy Feliz for The Penguin? Or Chase Sui Wonders for The Studio? Or Lisa from Blackpink for The White Lotus (or Carrie Coon’s vacation buddies, I suppose)?

AMC+'s modern Western series Dark Winds has been a major success since its debut in 2022. As fans await a new season, Dark Winds has remained in the charts despite Season 3 ending in late April.

However, the hit Western show is slowly losing its position. Per FlixPatrol, Dark Winds has fallen two positions, and has exchanged places with a 15-year-old Denzel Washington movie: the post-apocalyptic film The Book of Eli. The film has been steadily rising the charts on AMC+, and has replaced Dark Winds in the seventh spot.

Following the conclusion of his ten-year run as Harry Bosch on Prime Video's Bosch universe, Welliver will switch sides with his character Dominic McNair in Dark Winds Season 4. The network confirmed to TV Insider that Welliver will play the character, described as "a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods into and out of Los Angeles." The season is already in production, and Welliver shared a behind-the-scenes photo on X. "Dark Winds season 4, back on the chain…,” the post's caption reads. The actor, who is set to appear in the upcoming Bosch spinoff Ballard, shared the news of his role on social media, originally posting a behind-the-scenes photo to X (formerly known as Twitter), with the caption, “Dark Winds season 4, back on the chain…” As seen in the photo below, Welliver’s caption appears to refer to his handcuffs, which are joined by what seems to be a prison uniform. The key races for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards couldn’t be more different.

The comedy categories appear to be heading for another showdown between The Bear — once again prompting an obligatory “Is it a drama or a comedy?” debate — and Hacks, with several returning shows still in the mix while the drama fields, which Shōgun dominated last year, are wide open.

While voters can, and in many cases should, absolutely go back to prior favorites like The White Lotus, Severance and The Last of Us, the THR television critics have recommendations on some familiar and some quirky and offbeat ways to fill out ballots.

Voting for the nomination round closes on Monday, June 23, with nominations announced on Tuesday, July 15. The 2025 Emmys will air on CBS and Paramount+ on Sept. 14, with Nate Bargatze serving as host.

Writer-director Tony Tost’s crime feature hits theaters Aug. 22 from Lionsgate after premiering at SXSW in 2023. Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, Eric Dane, Zahn McClarnon and Simon Rex also star in the contemporary Western movie.

Americana centers on a number of people whose paths intersect as they try to track down a rare Native American artifact known as a “ghost shirt.”
