Timothe Chalamet is one of Hollywood's biggest stars, having worked with legendary directors like Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan. This year, he played the lead in one of 2024's biggest blockbusters, Dune: Part Two. In his latest role, Chalamet plays musical icon Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, which releases in December. Perhaps most importantly, however, he was the inspiration for a lookalike contest that drew a crowd in New York (though he didn't win).
Before all that, half a decade before he even acted in a movie, Timothe Chalamet appeared in an episode of Law & Order in his television debut. Chalamet played a small part in an episode of the long-running criminal justice series, which just started its 24th season this year on NBC. The joy of seeing Timothe Chalamet is short-lived, however, as the episode quickly takes a dark turn.

In the sneak peek video, Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) and Samantha Maroun (Odelya Halevi) discuss what to do with their suspect in the aftermath of a bomb attack. Her husband is not yet willing to say goodbye to his gravely injured wife, leading to Price and Maroun to debate over the value of grief over getting justice against the suspect. It is a series that has inspired multiple spin-offs and interconnected franchises; in the years since Law & Order premiered on NBC, it has been largely considered one of the best police procedurals on television. With sharp dialogue, compelling plot lines, and a revolving cast of seriously talented actors, the original Law & Order has shown itself as the golden standard of detective drama. However, it was the Emmy-winning turn almost 30 years ago that cemented the series fame with a strong string of seasons that is often considered the series best. For fans of Law & Order, Seasons 5 through 9 are the golden era.

Law & Order and Special Victims Unit have been renewed for new seasons on NBC. Organized Crime's future is uncertain amid lower ratings. Organized Crime could still go the way of many cancelled Dick Wolf spinoffs.
Two of the three ongoing Law & Order shows have been officially renewed. The universe of shows from creator Dick Wolf combine crime procedural and legal procedural elements and have all branched out from the flagship show, which originally premiered on NBC in 1990. So far, the show has received six spinoffs, with several already having been cancelled. However, the first spinoff, Special Victims Unit, is still going strong with 23 seasons so far. The other ongoing spinoff, Organized Crime, features Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), a character who originated on Svu.

Tony Goldwyn replaces Sam Waterson on Law & Order. Goldwyn played a previous role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Goldwyn's experience from the political thriller Scandal and others makes him suitable for Law & Order.
Law & Order's new cast member, Tony Goldwyn, shares a sweet message ahead of taking over for Sam Waterson's Jack McCoy. Jodie Foster is a great performer whose skills seem to transcend generations. It doesn't matter whether she's stuck in a poorly scripted film (chances are you won't see her in one of those) or starring in a high-concept drama; Foster will always provide the dramatic balance the film needs. Forget method acting, or even education. She simply knows how to do it. Her career as an actor transitioned into a figure that could also make a dent in the industry by standing behind the camera. Her work as a director is outstanding as well.
An early riser (she learned how to read when she was just three), Foster's childhood was plagued with low and high-profile acting gigs. In 1976, she broke through with performances in Echoes of a Summer, Bugsy Malone, Freaky Friday, The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, and Taxi Driver, which gave her an Oscar nomination. We already know that Sam Waterston’s Jack McCoy and Anthony Anderson’s Kevin Bernard are set to return for NBC’s upcoming Law & Order revival. But it looks like a third familiar face will also make their way back to the Dick Wolf procedural.
“The hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week,” Waterston told Variety, hinting at the return of another popular character. Although he couldn’t reveal who exactly would be dropping by, he did say that they are “one of my favorite people on Earth” and that “you’ll be glad when you see her.

“Law & Order” is bringing back yet another familiar face. While NBC previously announced that Sam Waterston and Anthony Anderson will both be reprising their roles of D.A. Jack McCoy and Detective Kevin Bernard, respectively, they aren’t the only ones stepping back into the courtroom — and the list of possible guest stars is endless.
“One of the wonderful things about doing a television show in New York like this with really juicy parts for visitors is that there’s this extraordinary pool of talent of New York actors. So, the hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week,” Waterston tells Variety, before hinting at one of those surprises. “There is a person coming back in the first show, one of my favorite people on Earth. I’m not allowed to tell who that is, but you’ll be glad when you see her.

There have been plenty of horror films set in the Old West and the Old South, as well as eras of religious inquisition in the Old World. “The Last Thing Mary Saw” goes where relatively few have gone before, however, by taking place in the still-new United States’ “civilized” rural East, where an industrial age had yet to penetrate and mores remained none too distant from the earliest European settlers’ harsh Puritanism.
Most obviously comparable would be 2015’s sleeper hit “The Witch,” though this first feature by writer-director Edoardo Vitaletti is not as vivid in atmospheric or suspense terms. Still, it’s similarly distinguished by a strong sense of a particular cultural epoch’s comingled faith, fear and oppression, even if “Mary” is set more than 200 years later. Perhaps more rewarding in the end as straight, downbeat period drama than as an occult thriller, it was acquired by genre platform...

The official trailer for director Ondi Timoner’s Mapplethorpe biopic is out, portraying the controversial artist as he ascends from nowhere to become one of the most talked-about media creators of the 20th Century.
Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is Robert Mapplethorpe, with Marianne Rendon as punk poet/rocker Patti Smith, Mapplethorpe’s muse.
Mapplethorpe discovered himself both sexually and artistically in New York City throughout the 70’s and 80’s. The film depicts Mapplethorpe’s life from moments before he and Patti Smith moved into the famed Chelsea Hotel, home to a world of bohemian chic. There, he began photographing its inhabitants and his new circle of friends, including artists and musicians, socialites, film stars, and members of the Bds&M underground.
That work displayed eroticism in a way that had never been examined nor displayed before to the public. Much of it was derided or outright banned in certain locales during his lifetime,...

A new trailer for Mapplethorpe is here. "You may not know us yet, but we're going to be big stars." These are the words that rock icon Patti Smith (Marianne Rendon) kicks off the first trailer with. The upcoming biopic on artist Robert Mapplethorpe sees former Doctor Who star Matt Smith as the important and controversial figure. Indeed, both of these figures went on to achieve star status, but in very different ways and with very different outcomes. Whereas Smith would go on to craft some of the greatest music ever produced, Mapplethorpe would go on to push the boundaries of photography as art, given his use of eroticism and exploration of sexual themes in his work.
This first footage highlights both the work of the artist at hand and the performance of Matt Smith. For his part, Smith seems to have disappeared into the role and is nearly unrecognizable.

The story of legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe will be the subject of the upcoming biopic Mapplethorpe, which unveiled its first trailer Friday ahead of its 2019 release. Dr. Who and The Crown actor Matt Smith portrays the photographer in the Ondi Timoner-directed biopic that chronicles his sexual and artistic awakening in New York City of the Seventies and Eighties, as well as his friendship with rock legend Patti Smith.
“Photography, it’s about light, it’s about composition, it’s about the personality of the subject,” Smith’s Mapplethorpe says in voiceover.

Rising to prominence in a changing cultural landscape, Robert Mapplethorpe may have been just been in the right place at the right time. At the cultural vanguard he experienced both the free love era of the 1960s with Patti Smith–treated in the film as an impromptu ordeal he was thrown into likely to satisfy his parents–and documented the AIDs crisis as his subjects started to fade away. As a biopic, Mapplethorpe comes up short, falling into the kind of tropes artist pictures tend to plunge into, full of grandiose speeches foreshadowing what’s to come, perhaps a victim of low-budget indie filmmaking forcing compromises. Providing a Wikipedia overview of a complex career, the film chooses to provoke with Mapplethorpe’s images rather than totally engage with his conceptual practices.

I wonder if Will Eno saw Jon Robin Baitz’s Other Desert Cities, in which a character memorably says that families are terrorized by their weakest member. In any case, in The Open House, drolly directed by Oliver Butler, Eno demonstrates the idea with a vengeance. For the first half of the intermission-less 75-minute play, a horrible man (Peter Friedman) sits in a wheelchair in the family room of his suburban house, abusing his aggressively pleasant wife (Carolyn McCormick), his wounded brother (Michael Countryman), and his mystified adult children (Hannah Bos and Danny McCarthy). They are almost completely resigned to his blitzkrieg of snark, but what response could they offer to someone who says things like: “How many times do I have to ask you to never think about this family?” Any attempts they make to warm up their day together are mocked and dropped; even tiny insubordinations are quashed.

Title: Downtown Express Director: David Grubin Starring: Philippe Quint, Nellie McKay, Michael Cumpsty, Ashley Springer, Carolyn McCormick An old-fashioned, squarely sentimental immigrants’ tale that marries a familiar story of generational rebellion to the New York hipster fusion music scene, director David Grubin’s “Downtown Express” is a wide-eyed if not particularly adroit charmer. If its awkward cycling through various stodgy subplots and general lack of a more starkly defined contrast and stakes mark it as somewhat lazy and functional on a narrative level, its relative freshness of setting — as well as the fact that its music absolutely sings — makes the movie a marginal recommendation for those with an interest in musically-focused cinema. It's Friday night. That means an all new Law & Order: UK on BBC America. Here's the lowdown on tonight's episode, "Alesha." (Warning: this episode deals with issues of sexual assault.)
In this episode of Law & Order: UK, the last of its first series, things are about to get personal. "Alesha" is based on 1992's "Helpless," which gave the spotlight to Dr. Elizabeth Olivet (Carolyn McCormick). As you can gather by the title, its UK equivalent is a showcase for Freema Agyeman, who called it "the biggest challenge I've ever been faced with in my career." That should tell you how awesome of an episode this is, but I'm happy to add my contribution to its praises. You can check out the rest at Digital Airwaves, which has full coverage of Law & Order: UK from moment one.
