Exclusive: Fox delivered its best series debut in five years with the launch of its new medical drama Doc.
The premiere episode has now amassed 15.6M cross-platform viewers in its first 11 days, according to the network, representing an impressive 609% increase over its live + same-day audience of 2.2M. It’s the most-watched debut telecast Fox has seen since 9-1-1: Lone Star.
In the first seven days after its January 7 debut, the episode drew 1.1M viewers across Hulu and Fox.com, which makes it the network’s best streaming performance for a debut telecast since The Floor last year. However, it seems that Doc is amassing a much larger audience overall than The Floor. As Deadline exclusively revealed at the time, The Floor‘s debut scored 4.4M cross-platform viewers in its first seven days.
Interestingly, it looks like much of this massive audience increase is coming from delayed linear viewing,...

From the original flagship Law & Order to its sister shows like Special Victims Unit, this is a franchise that is no stranger to a character exit. In fact, the Dick Wolf universe is often known for being a revolving door of actors and characters, with fans wary of growing too attached. For every mainstay character like Captain Olivia Benson, there are dozens who have had far shorter tenures in the fictionalized procedural world.
While many exits have been emotionally satisfying or thematically memorable, some have been less so. Catherine Manheim's recent exit as Kate Dixon on Law & Order was seemingly handled without much of a concluding story built around it. And while learning that Detective Elliot Stabler had left the show's Svu squad was certainly memorable, it was shoehorned in as a rushed, surprised explanation at the top of Season 13 and so never had a chance to be...

A group of screenwriters including Eli Roth, Graham Yost and Amy Chozick have issued an open letter decrying the Writers Guild of America’s silence on last week’s Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
In the letter, posted to the blog site Medium, the screenwriters mention the statements already issued by other Hollywood guilds, including SAG-AFTRA and the directors’ guild.
“When it comes to taking a stand, the Writers Guild of America has always led by example,” the statement said. “When employers sought to exploit our work, the Guild bravely spoke up. When the BLM movement took flight, the Guild rightfully spoke up. When the #MeToo reckoning came and Hollywood needed to change, again the Guild spoke up. But when terrorists invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap Jews… the Guild stayed silent. It remains the only major Hollywood union to do so.”

For her upcoming Law & Order: Svu guest role, Debra Messing is branching out from her Will & Grace roots and getting into her inner... Chris Hansen?
"I found out that Debra Messing was interested in coming onto the show. She and Mariska Hargitay are good friends. ... She didn't really know what she wanted to do and I didn't really have a story for her," associate producer and consultant Judy McCreary says. "All of a sudden it clicked, and I said 'What if we did a take on Chris Hansen, who hosts To Catch a Predator? And that's how the show was born."
