Peacock to Launch Series From Four Emerging Artists
Image
Peacock has announced four series from new emerging artists. The concepts were developed and executed by next-gen creators – Charlie Curtis-Beard, Katie Florence, Serena Kerrigan, and Daren Vongirdner – successful self-made social media stars with passionate followings and thriving businesses.

Launching on Monday, May 19, audiences will be able to tune into all episodes of each scripted original, including The Warehouse Phase, The Kouncil, Older Hotter Wiser, and People Like Me.

Curtis-Beard, Florence, Kerrigan, and Vongirdner collaborated with NBCUniversal through the media and entertainment company’s Creator Accelerator Program, an industry-first initiative that identifies and develops the next generation of premium content creators.

Each storyteller elevated their craft through enriching content development work by learning network-level production in bringing their series to life with accomplished production companies, Telemundo Studios, and Tandem Pictures, while tapping into NBCUniversal executives, talent, mentorship, and training resources.

Additionally, brand sponsors BetterHelp and the US Army join this moment...

Peacock’s 7-episode scripted comedy series, greenlit as part of the streamer’s Creator Accelerator Program, follows a young woman ready to take on Hollywood, but first, she must get there. When a logistical mishap forces her and her boyfriend onto a chaotic road trip to LA, what starts as a simple journey spirals into a wild ride filled with unexpected detours, mischief, and a reckoning with her past. Cheyenne Jackson and Husband Jason Landau Launch Production Company Shiny Boy Entertainment With Comedy Short ‘Brutal’ (Exclusive)
Image
Cheyenne Jackson is adding producer to his resume. The actor and singer has quietly launched a production company, Shiny Boy Entertainment, with his husband Jason Landau, the couple exclusively tells me.

Their first project is “Brutal,” director Sam McConnell’s comedy short about a news anchor (Jackson) who acquires a leaked sex tape of a longtime U.S. senator. The cast also includes Rachael Harris (“Lucifer”), Angelica Ross (“Pose”), Johnny Sibilly (“Queer as Folk”), Drew Droege (“Search Party”) and Matthew Morrison (“Glee”). “Brutal” will premiere June 18 at Frameline in San Francisco followed by a Los Angeles rollout at Outfest in July.

Jackson came on as a producer of “Brutal” after McConnell offered him the lead role. “We’re using ‘Brutal’ as a proof of concept. We think it would be a great series kind of in the vein of ‘Veep,’” Jackson says.

Jackson and Landau, a merchandising and branding executive,...

GLAAD and the Black List Announce ‘Most Promising Unmade Lgbtq-Inclusive Film Scripts’
Annie Girardot in Black List (1984)
GLAAD and the Black List unveiled the second annual GLAAD List, full of “the most promising unmade Lgbtq-inclusive film scripts,” Saturday evening at the Sundance Film Festival.

The Black List is an annual survey of Hollywood executives’ favorite unproduced screenplays, while the GLAAD List operates differently: Instead of relying on a survey, it is curated by GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization. The organization evaluates potential films based on a list of standards including whether they fairly and accurately portrays the Lgbtq community and what each film’s potential impact is.

The GLAAD List: The Black List And GLAAD Unveil Second Annual Roster Of Unmade Lgbtq-Inclusive Film Scripts
Jeremy Blacklow
Exclusive: During Sundance, Jeremy Blacklow, Director of Entertainment Media at GLAAD and The Black List’s Kate Hagen revealed the second annual catalog for the GLAAD List which is a roster of the most promising unmade Lgbtq-inclusive film scripts.

From stories about Tennessee Williams to the bohemian ‘80s arts scene in NYC to a family fighting for survival as the world might be ending, the scripts on The GLAAD List represent the type of stories that GLAAD would like to see studios producing. With the proper attention, and with the collaboration of the right directors and actors, these scripts show tremendous promise and should one day become films that will both entertain audiences and change hearts and minds around the world.

“GLAAD is thrilled to present this incredible list of unmade Lgbtq-inclusive scripts to the entertainment industry at large for a second year in a row,” said Blacklow. “We have...

‘Transparent’ Actress Trace Lysette To Star & Produce ‘Colors Of Ava’
Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Duplass, Amy Landecker, Judith Light, and Alexandra Billings in Transparent (2014)
Known for her role as Shea in the Emmy-winning Amazon series Transparent, Trace Lysette is attached to star in Colors of Ava. Lysette is also set to serve as executive producer.

The film, which is described as an “uplifting and authentic love story set in Los Angeles”, comes shortly after Scarlett Johansson stepped down from the movie Rub & Tug after she received backlash for portraying a trans male. It was announced that they will cast all 10 trans roles in the film with trans actors. As a trans actress and advocate for the Lgbtq and #MeToo movements, Lysette’s role in Colors of Ava and the movie itself will move the needle for representation and inclusion in film and entertainment.

Colors of Ava also stars trans actress Rain Valdez who has also appeared in Transparent. She will also serve as co-producer. The film is produced by Julie Christeas’ Tandem Pictures. Sam McConnell will direct the original screenplay written by Wayne Mahon.

HBO premiered Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' documentary "The Out List" last month, in which a diverse cross-section of Americans share personal and professional stories -- both heart-wrenching and triumphant -- of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer experience.

Now, a companion coffee table book is available, featuring Greenfield-Sanders' portraits, text from the interviews by Sam McConnell and an introduction by President Obama's inaugural poet Richard Blanco.

Activist and actor, politician and provocateur, drag queen, and athlete all share personal stories that set them apart and tie them together, revealing a poignant, familiar journey to find themselves and secure a place in modern society. The subjects in "The Out List" are celebrated not just for being "out" and visible in their own lives, but also because they share a sense of responsibility for the greater community and for the betterment of future generations.
