George R.R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter is not yet here, but the author released a couple of sample chapters in the past few years to increase fans’ excitement and keep us all anticipating the book.
Even though we’ve been feeling frustrated as he gave fewer updates in recent times, it doesn’t take away the fact that the preview chapters gave us all something to look forward to.
Some of the snippets from the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire series were incredibly surprising, while others merely teased what we could expect from the viewpoint characters.
So far, we have 11 chapters, and we will rank them from the least to the most exciting parts.

HBO's Game of Thrones is a landmark show that deserves all the accolades it's gotten. It's not an exaggeration to say that it quite literally reshaped the television landscape; for years afterward, we've watched as streaming services and television networks competed to take the crown following the end of the series' run in 2019.
While the show itself deserves its flowers, a huge part of what made Thrones as good as it was is that it had excellent source material. George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels have a sprawling story with tons of memorable characters, all vying for their own personal interests or just trying to survive in the gritty fantasy realms of Westeros and Essos. The show largely brought those characters to life with incredible fidelity. But for every Arya Stark or Tyrion Lannister, who made the leap to the screen flawlessly, there were characters...

Game of Thrones Butchered Its Bravest Kingsguard Just to Make Tyrion Look Smart, and It Still Failed
Game of Thrones is one of those shows which had mountains of hype and then massively failed to live up to it by the end. Based on George R.R. Martin’s unfinished novel series, the show became popular for its story of political deceit and realistic deaths. The books and the show had a habit of mercilessly killing off beloved characters.
While the show followed the novels till its final two seasons, there were plenty of changes in timelines and characters who survived. It seemed like the makers wanted to unnecessarily kill off great characters for shock value and to glorify other fan-favorite ones. One of the biggest victims of this was Ser Barristan Selmy.

The Last Of Us Season 2 Recruited One Of HBO's Biggest Directors For That Devastating Second Episode
This post contains major spoilers for "The Last of Us" season 2, episode 2.
The second season of "The Last of Us" just dropped its second episode, and HBO hired their own personal grim reaper to direct one of the most harrowing hours in recent TV memory.
Fans of the Naughty Dog video game series knew this bombshell was coming, but under the direction of Mark Mylod, a man who's helmed episodes of "Game of Thrones" and "Succession" (among other shows on the premium network), it was particularly brutal to watch the events of this episode. Not only did we see a massive assault from a veritable army of infected, violent, and starving cordyceps zombies on the protected human settlement in Jackson, Wyoming, but this is the episode where Joel Miller, the story's ostensible hero played by Pedro Pascal, is brutally murdered by Abby, a new-this-season character played by Kaitlyn Dever.

Game of Thrones was an absolute masterpiece of a show till it followed the books, but then the twists and turns were unpredictable and, sadly, not in a good way. The actors were just as surprised by their deaths as the viewers, and some even publicly expressed their disapproval of the showrunners’ choices.

Game of Thrones was notorious for toning down or altering some of the greatest characters in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire for various reasons, but Ser Barristan Selmy actor Ian McElhinney understood that depiction in television is very different from books.

The famed knight tragically died at the hands of the Sons of the Harpy in what seemed to be a very insulting way to go for one of the greatest swordsmen in Westeros. Even the actor was pissed off in the beginning, but he had come to accept his character’s fate.

As mentioned, Ser Barristan Selmy, or Ser Barristan the Bold, was a skilled fighter who perished in the fifth season of Game of Thrones during a skirmish involving a gang of rebels from Meereen.

Throughout "Game of Thrones" — HBO's massively popular fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin's novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" — we hear quite a bit about King Aerys II Targaryen, who earns the very flattering nickname "the Mad King" before his reign is officially cut short in 283 AC. The father of Daenerys Targaryen, the self-crowned Mother of Dragons played throughout the series by Emilia Clarke, Aerys is ... a troubled man, to say the very least. It didn't help matters that his parents, King Jaehaerys II Targaryen and Shaera Targaryen, were siblings; the whole Targaryen clan was a little too fond of incest, which led to a saying repeated throughout "A Song of Ice and Fire" and "Game of Thrones" — "Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin."

David Benioff and Dan Weiss made a lot of changes in Game of Thrones that did not satisfy fans, but there’s still hope that George R.R. Martin can give loyal readers a proper and fitting conclusion to his A Song of Ice and Fire story, especially with the much-debated arc of Daenerys Targaryen and how she became the Mad Queen.

It’s evident that the HBO showrunners rushed her insanity plot as the series was planned to wrap up in Season 8, but there’s a popular theory that Martin can fix this with his upcoming novel, The Winds of Winter.

An amalgam of a road trip dramedy, an emotional memory piece and a nostalgic look at the glory of World War II, “The Last Rifleman” wants to be many things. Alas, Kevin Fitzpatrick’s script fails to give any of these threads the dramatic heft or the character specification they require. Terry Loane directs all of it with a smooth but rather indifferent hand, unable to overcome the script’s limitations. As the veteran referred to by the title, Pierce Brosnan becomes the main reason to watch.
Brosnan is 92-year-old Artie Crawford, living in a care home in Northern Ireland while having poignant and unsettling flashbacks to World War II, when he fought alongside his best friend and fell in love with the woman he eventually married. Facing the end of life, he decides to go back to Normandy to visit the place that haunts his dreams. Despite the distractingly...

In a fast-moving, ever-evolving world plagued by struggles and sensationalism, it’s easy to forget the sacrifices made by people belonging to an older generation. Many young people have no appreciation for the trauma endured by soldiers of near-forgotten wars. They are too busy stunting for likes and subscribers while desperately craving the approval of strangers who could care less. However, those who fought for freedom remember the deafening bomb blasts, burying friends far too soon, and what the word honor truly represents. In Samuel Goldwyn Films‘s The Last Rifleman trailer, Pierce Brosnan plays a WWII veteran determined to return to Ireland on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, but does he still have what it takes to make the journey?

Game of Thrones was huge when it first started out. But as time went on, people started to notice cracks in the story. Changes were made from the beloved books, characters were killed in cruel and pointless ways, and massive plot holes sprung up. Audiences objected greatly to the show's direction.
Many of the biggest complaints sprung up during the final season of Game of Thrones. Fan interest went rapidly downhill during those six episodes, and it's generally agreed that it was a poor conclusion to the series. After that, audiences began pointing out flaws in the preceding seasons too. But it wasn't just fans who were unhappy, some of the cast members were as well.

House of the Dragon has officially returned for its long-awaited second season. The new episodes see war finally break out between the Greens, who support Aegon II Targaryen's claim to the Iron Throne, and the Blacks, who support Rhaenyra I Targaryen's ascendancy. As the Dance of the Dragons breaks out, both sides desperately need strong allies.
Although they were born out of due time, the characters in HBO's original series based in Westeros, Game of Thrones, would all have opinions about who the rightful heir to King Viserys's throne is. While some may have opposed her, there are many Game of Thrones characters who would have supported Rhaenyra in the Dance of the Dragons.

David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ Game of Thrones transcends boundaries as a beloved historical fantasy series. However, while captivating fans with a story based on uncertainty of life, ruthless wars, and politics, the HBO show unfortunately ended up failing to justify a few deaths that weren’t even a part of the original storyline crafted by George R.R. Martin.
HBO’s beloved series Game of Thrones
One such death occurred when Daenerys Targaryen’s loyal bodyguard Ser Barristan Selmy was killed off midway through season 5. When most people think of a Superman origin story, the popular series, Smallville, may come to mind. Many may have forgotten, however, that there was another series surrounding not only the hero's origins but that of his Kryptonian ancestors as well. When Krypton premiered on the SyFy network in 2018, it took on quite an ambitious idea with a story that explored Kryptonian society in the age of Kal-El's grandfather. It seemed the show was aiming to tell an ongoing epic tale on a scale similar to that of Game of Thrones, but its ambitions wound up collapsing when it was canceled after only two seasons.

Game of Thrones has a well-earned reputation for killing off characters, even the fan favorites. Creating a story where no one was safe, the show hooked viewers and became a phenomenon. After all, who can look away after the drama of the Red Wedding? However, not every death on the show was justified. While the likes of Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), Ned Stark (Sean Bean), and even Tywin Lannister's (Charles Dance) deaths were instrumental to the plot, others were used to add drama to a single moment and deprived the show of characters that could have made a major impact. This list includes the forgotten Stark, Rickon (Art Parkinson), who reappears after several seasons only to die, Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free), the only child of Cersei (Lena Headey) to play no significant role, Jojen Reed (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), who is killed just before seeing his mission complete and quickly forgotten, and several others.

National Geographic's A Small Light continues tonight with another two episodes.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at what's ahead, and it looks like things are going from bad to worse for Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber).
In the clip, we see Miep (Bel Powley) speak to Otto about recent events and how things might change very soon.
Otto is worried about the Nsb officer snooping around, but Miep tries to calm him down.
With his back pushed against the wall, Otto ponders what will happen next.
It's an excellent look at the series and how Miep tries to help Otto by making him realize that he's a wonderful father and has made the right decisions.

National Geographic has released the trailer from the upcoming eight-part limited series ‘A Small Light’. The powerful series, produced by ABC Signature and Keshet Studios, will stream on Disney+ in the U.K. on 2 May.
Based on an inspiring true story, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) was young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked her to help hide his family from the Nazis during WWII. Without hesitation, Miep agreed. For the next two years, she and her daring and devoted husband, Jan (Joe Cole), with several other everyday heroes, watched over the Frank, van Pels and Pfeffer families hiding in the secret annexe.
Told with a modern sensibility, the series shakes the cobwebs of history and makes Miep’s story feel relevant, forcing audiences to ask themselves what they would have done in Miep’s shoes; and in modern times,...

Warning: contains spoilers for Series 4 of Unforgotten
It’s been two years since the last season of ITV’s hit crime drama Unforgotten, and at long last it’s back on our screens.
After that shocking Series 4 finale, in which we said a heartbreaking goodbye to Dci Cassie Stuart (aka the incredible Nicola Walker), we’ve got plenty of questions about the Series 5 cast.
In this latest series, when a body is found in a boarded-up fireplace, the team gets to work trying to identify who the victim is, and how long they’ve been there. We also discover that the person filling Cassie’s very large detective shoes as Sunny’s new boss-slash-bestie will be the prickly Dci Jessica James, who doesn’t exactly make a great first impression.
Unlike the previous four series, Series 5 of Unforgotten will also be made available as a bingeable box-set on Itvx as...

House of the Dragon season 2 can fix a disappointing character arc from its sequel show Game of Thrones through one specific character. House of the Dragon season 1 featured a return to form for the Song of Ice and Fire franchise after the highly divisive ending of Game of Thrones season 8. Throughout House of the Dragon season 1, plenty of the show's main characters were established, with one of the smaller roles providing an opportunity to fix a mistake made by Game of Thrones.
The character of Ser Harrold Westerling, played by Graham McTavish offers great potential. In House of the Dragon season 1, Westerling becomes the Lord Commander of Viserys' Kingsguard after the death of Ryam Redwyne. After Viserys' heir, Rhaenyra, is betrayed by the Greens, Westerling removes his cloak and resigns from his post as Lord Commander when commanded to assassinate Rhaenyra in the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon...

It’s 1994, and the people of Northern Ireland are nearly three decades into a violent conflict known as the Troubles. Civilians — thousands of which died during the fray — are generally divided between Protestant unionists, who want to keep the country under United Kingdom control, and Irish Catholics, who call for a united Ireland. Day-to-day life in Derry involve armed military checkpoints, customary bomb disposals, and the constant hum of danger. Family members are in prison. Others are dead. An end to the Troubles is in sight, but for the teenage girls attending Our Lady Immaculate College, this is the only life they’ve ever known. That it may come to an end right as they graduate only instills further anxiety over the responsibilities of adulthood.

Season 3 of “Derry Girls” opens with a dramatic montage set to the tune of uilleann pipes, depicting Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla McCool (Louisa Clare Harland), Clare Devlin (“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan), James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn) and Michelle Mallon (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell) leaning pensively against walls, playing soccer and doing cartwheels, interspersed with shots of burning cars and soldiers carrying guns. It’s the sort of montage that belongs in a period piece about growing up in Ireland during the ’90s — and, as it’s revealed, the kind that Erin, Orla, Clare, James and Michelle want to be remembered for, as they’ve created it themselves using James’ video camera. “They told us we were young,” Erin intones in a comically ponderous voiceover, “yet we understood the enormity of it. “Derry Girls,” the popular Channel 4 comedy set in 1990s Northern Ireland, is ending after its upcoming Season 3, creator Lisa McGee announced on Twitter on Thursday.
Season 3, which is heading into production, will mark the end of the show, but a trio of seasons was always the plan, McGee said.
“It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series. ‘Derry Girls’ is a coming of age story; following five ridiculous teenagers as they slowly…very slowly…start to become adults, while around them the place they call home starts to change too and Northern Ireland enters a new, more hopeful phase — which was a small, magical window of time,” McGee wrote. “‘Derry Girls’ is a love letter to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It has been an honour to write it and I will be forever proud of everything it’s achieved.

Derry Girls has been one of our favorite shows ever since it first aired back in 2018, and luckily, we won't have to wait long for it to return. Ian McElhinney, who plays Granda Joe, recently confirmed in an interview with the Belfast Telegraph that filming for the third series is due to begin next month.
It's been two years since series two ended, and we've been desperately awaiting the return of our favorite cast members, so we're naturally very excited by this news. A specific date for filming has yet to be confirmed, but since it's basically September already, we can only imagine that it'll begin pretty soon!
With filming beginning imminently, the next question on everyone's lips is: when will it air? Well, McElhinney also mentioned that the team hopes to finish filming by Christmas, with the series set to land on our screens in early 2022. Earlier this year,...

Among the detective dramas and high-stakes thrillers due to arrive on British television in the next year or so, there are a clutch of sci-fi, supernatural and horror shows also coming our way. April saw the release of Sky One original Intergalactic – the story of a wrongly imprisoned galactic pilot who breaks out of space jail with a gang of other high-security female prisoners – and Netflix has ordered fantasy novel adaptations Half Bad, Cuckoo Song, Lockwood & Co. and The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – respectively, tales of witches, supernatural pacts, ghost-hunters, and a woman who jumps between bodies in her quest to solve a murder mystery. Coming to terrestrial TV, there’s Life After Life and The Three, stories about living multiple versions of the same life, and the miraculous child survivors of a mysterious plane crash.
