Image
Pedro Kos’s debut feature In Our Blood is gearing up for its European premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest Glasgow on March 7, following a successful tour of international festivals. Now, UK audiences will have the chance to experience Kos’s haunting vision firsthand.

Alan Jones Reflects on 25 Years of FrightFest
Image
As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of London’s FrightFest, it’s impossible to overlook the tremendous impact this festival has had on the horror and fantasy film landscape. Founded in 2000 by Alan Jones, Paul McEvoy, Ian Rattray, and later joined by Greg Day, FrightFest has grown from a small gathering at the Prince Charles Cinema into the UK’s premier horror film festival. The vision of these four pioneers was to create a British event that could rival Europe’s leading genre festivals, such as Sitges in Spain and Brussels in Belgium. Over the past quarter-century, FrightFest has not only met this goal but has far surpassed it, becoming a global hub for horror enthusiasts, filmmakers, and industry professionals.

FrightFest’s journey from its modest beginnings to the cultural juggernaut it is today has been marked by significant milestones. The festival’s expansion to larger venues, such as the...

Elijah Wood at an event for Tron: Uprising (2012)
‘Come To Daddy’ Blu-ray Review
Elijah Wood at an event for Tron: Uprising (2012)
Stars: Elijah Wood, Stephen McHattie, Madeleine Sami, Martin Donovan, Michael Smiley | Written by Toby Harvard | Directed by Ant Timpson

Directed by Ant Timpson in his feature directorial debut, based on his idea and written by Toby Harvard (The Greasy Strangler), Come to Daddy is a New Zealand film project. It stars Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), someone not unfamiliar with New Zealand film work, as Norval Greenwood, a thirty-something musical artist who travels to a cabin in the middle-of-nowhere and attempts to reconnect with his father.

Stephen McHattie plays Gordon, a wonderfully manic and unpredictable man, played with a real tension that creates discomfort and awkwardness in the scenes between himself and Norval in the early stages of the movie. Norval begins as a cocksure and almost arrogant character with a past shadowed with demons of alcoholism and self-harm, but as the film progresses and the relationship between father and son grows and adapts,...

Gaspar Noé’s Climax leads the charge in the FrightFest 2018 line-up
This year’s FrightFest will kick off on 23rd August with Jenn Wexler’s post-modern slasher The Ranger (making her the first ever female director to open the festival) and close on 27th August with Gaspar Noé’s insane surprise Cannes-favourite Climax. And considering 2018’s London edition is backed by Arrow Video as the main sponsor, fans can expect even more top-shelf genre fun than ever before. Hold on to your butts.

The four horseman of the fest-pocalypse, Greg Day, Alan Jones, Paul McEvoy and Ian Rattray reunite again to take over the Cineworld Leicester Square and Prince Charles Cinema, marking FrightFest’s 19th year on the trot celebrating horror in London’s film centre. And the line-up is certainly a fan-pleaser, with over 60 premieres, plenty involving former festival favourites.

Sticking out on first glance is Pascal ‘Martyrs’ Laugier’s latest slice of French extremity Incident In A Ghost Land,...

Frightfest and Signature team for rebirth of ‘Frightfest Presents’
In 2015 it was announced that Frightfest were set to bring us, under a “Frightfest Presents” banner, some of the horrific delights of their Glasgow and London festivals on DVD and VOD thanks to a partnership with Icon Film Distribution. And whilst that partnership did garner a number of releases – including the likes of Some Kind of Hate, Emelie, Night of the Living Deb and The Sand – the label went dark soon after, with not only the two-year deal coming to an end, but also likely due to the fact that Frightfest partner Icon had some financial woes in 2017, eventually been sold to Kaleidoscope in March of this year.

Skip forward to today and news reaches us that the Frightfest Presents label is reborn, this time in co-operation with Signature Entertainment – a label who we have supported since the early days of their direct to DVD B-movie start-up, with titles such as SnowBeast,...

The Road to FrightFest 2014 is paved with Video Nastiness…Jake West & Marc Morris Interview
Always with one eye on the past and the other on the present, FrightFest ensure an enduring celebration of genre cinema. After supporting director Jake West and producer Marc Morris’ Moral Panic, Video Nasties and Videotape, FrightFest have once again leant their support to the follow-up documentary Video Nasties: Draconian Days, which picks up where Moral Panic left off to look at the fallout of the 1984 Video Recordings Act.

What was the genesis of Video Nasties: Draconian Days? Was it your original intention to do a follow-up?

WB is Bringing The Hobbit, Mad Max, and Jupiter Ascending to Sdcc 2014
We are only a few weeks away from the geeky awesomeness that is San Diego Comic-Con, and studios are lining up to show off their upcoming slate of projects. Today, Warner Bros. announced details on what they plan on bringing to the show, including the DC Comics based TV shows, Batman anniversary celebration, and first looks at the final Hobbit film and Mad Max Fury Road.

If you're planning your Sdcc weekend around what could be announced, then these schedules will come in very handy for you. WB has now announced their schedule of events and broken down what they expect to show at this year's event. From the sounds of it we'll be getting our first teasers for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and, thankfully, Mad Max: Fury Road.

While some are wondering at the absence of any mention of Batman v. Superman, I wouldn't get too upset just yet.
