Boris owns and lives in an old 1831 Baptist church where he was born and raised by his mother along with nine siblings. He grew up working on farms and has said nothing has ever seemed like work since.

Was accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy, class of 1984, but ultimately did not attend. Space flight remains his lifelong romance.

Son of Ruth Sylvia (Shmigelsky), a scenic designer, and John McGiver, an actor.

A French horn player for many years, Boris attended the Ithaca School of Music as a French horn major. He also attended several other schools, such as SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Albany, Hunter College, and NYU as an undergrad, where he studied an eclectic mix of subjects, allowing him an unintentionally well-rounded education.

He has an MFA from NYU Graduate Acting.
