Image
"Don't be in a hurry to grow up – it's overrated." Freestyle Digital Media has revealed an official trailer for the film Magnetosphere, an indie coming-of-age comedy by filmmaker Nicola Rose. It initially premiered at the 2024 Hamilton Film Festival and Dances With Films Festival last year, and is ready for release on VOD later this month. For anyone who wants to watch! It's 1997. Comet Hale-Bopp streaks across the sky, and 13-year-old Maggie Campion is trying to make sense of a world she literally sees differently — because Maggie has synesthesia, a rare condition where senses intertwine. As she navigates a new school, quirky family drama, first love, and a chaotic theater production, Maggie begins to realize her so-called "weirdness" might just be her greatest gift. Synesthesia is a condition that makes her see sounds, hear colors, and more. Starring Shayelin Martin as Maggie, Steven He, Colin Mochrie, Tara Strong, Patrick McKenna, Tania Webb,...

The Lego Group has set director and producer Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) as executive producer for its first-ever live-action TV project: a Lego Friends musical special, set in the world of Heartlake City. Filming is set to begin in London this August with release due in 2026. The storyline follows a girl who constructs a world out of Lego bricks, only to be magically transported to Heart Lake City. Ortega said: “I don’t know who’s more excited – my family or me. We are a Lego loving household, and receiving this invitation from the Lego Group to join them in their first live-action musical is an absolute honor. Also being able to produce alongside the wonderful team at Final Pixel, leaders in virtual production has me overjoyed, and I am thrilled to have my longtime creative partner, Paul Becker, alongside.”

Spencer Rice in Kenny vs. Spenny (2002)
NBCU, Canwest to co-produce 'Combat'
Spencer Rice in Kenny vs. Spenny (2002)
Toronto -- NBC Universal has joined with Canwest Global Communications Corp. to co-produce the Canadian medical procedural "Combat Hospital" from indie producer Sienna Films for Global Television.

The drama about a military field hospital in Afghanistan manned by doctors and nurses from around the world and serving injured coalition troops and Afghan civilians is part of an expanding homegrown scripted slate from Canwest Global that includes an eight-episode order for "Single White Spenny" from Breakthrough Films & Television for its Showcase cable channel.

"Combat Hospital" is executive produced by Simon Vaughan of Lookout Films. Vaughan helped finance the CBS/CTV drama "Flashpoint" while with Alchemy TV.

The medical drama is set for delivery in November 2010.

Canwest Global and NBC Universal earlier co-produced the Howie Mandel-starring hidden camera reality series "Howie Does It."

The Canadian broadcaster is also a keen buyer of U.S. series from NBC Universal Domestic Television for its Canadian schedule.

[News] Production Begins for 'Little Mosque on the Prairie'
Although CBC, a Canadian public TV network, didn't make any announcement, the fifth season of Little Mosque on the Prairie, a sitcom, begins production today in Ontario.

This show follows Amaar Rashid (Zaib Shaikh), a young and "liberal" Muslim imam from Toronto. He decides to go live in a small town of the Canadian Prairies (hello stereotypes!) where a small Muslim community coexists with "white" (if you know what I mean) people. Besides, it appears that the town's mayor (Debra McGrath) and one of her councillors (Sheila McCarthy), are so in favour of Canada's multiculturalism policy, which isn't an immigration policy in case you're too dumb to know.

The show also stars Carlo Rota, Sitara Hewitt, Brandon Firla, Neil Crone, Stephen Lobo and Arlene Duncan.

Finally, it appears that Little Mosque on the Prairie will premiere on CBC this fall.

Omdc: Productions Currently Shooting in Ontario as of May 7, 2010...
