Peggy Caserta, a friend and onetime lover of Janis Joplin who wrote a pair of memoirs about the singer and their relationship, died at 84 on Thursday, Nov. 21. Caserta’s death was reported by Deadline, who, per Caserta’s book publisher, said the author died of “natural causes at her cabin on the Tillamook River” in Oregon.
In 1973, Caserta, a fixture of San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury scene where she befriended Joplin and the Grateful Dead, published the book Going Down With Janis, which detailed her friendship and eventual romance with the Sixties rock & roll singer.

Martin Scorsese fondly remembers working with the late Kris Kristofferson as one of the highlights of the filmmakers life. Scorsese served as the director on 1974s Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore, which focused on a waitress/singer named Alice (Ellen Burstyn). She ends up meeting David (Kristofferson) on her first day of work at Mel and Rubys, which leads to an unlikely romance. The dramedy was ultimately the inspiration for the much-beloved television series Alice, which aired on TV for nine seasons from 1976 until 1985. Scorsese said in a statement (via IndieWire):
Right now, Im on a small boat between Ustica and Palermo, listening to Me and Bobby McGee, remembering Kris Kristofferson. Just like half of the world. I was lucky enough to work with Kris. He was a poet. Truly. Inside and out. And a damn good actor, a remarkable screen presence.

Kris Kristofferson, the legendary country star turned superstar actor, has passed away at 88. No cause of death has yet been revealed, but Kristofferson retired from public life in 2021. While some of you reading this may know him best for playing Whistler in the Blade trilogy, his career goes much deeper than that, making him one of the most fascinating pop culture icons of his time.
Before he ever became an actor, Kristofferson was famous as a writer of country hits, including the immortal “Me and Bobby McGee,” later launching his own recording career, which included multiple Grammy wins and Gold records. But, even before that, he was quite accomplished, being a former Rhodes Scholar and captain in the U.S. Army. He famously turned down a teaching job (in English Lit) at West Point to focus on his musical career. He was seen as one of the leading figures in the Outlaw Country movement,...

Maddie Poppe has sung eight songs so far on “American Idol” and viewers think that a whopping six of these were real winners. In our poll, all of her performances to date but two (her duet with Colbie Caillat on “Bubbly” and her cover of The Bangles‘ hit “Walk Like an Egyptian) merited at least 10% of the total tally.

It took five weeks of episodes on the “American Idol” revival on ABC but we finally have the top 14 who will sing for your votes beginning on April 22. After a two-year break “American Idol” is back for season 16. This time around the reality competition series may air on ABC but it is following the same format as the 15 seasons that ruled the ratings on Fox. While Ryan Seacrest is back as host, the three judges are new: pop princess Katy Perry, country superstar Luke Bryan and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie
They gave a whopping 169 contestants tickets to Hollywood at their auditions, which were spread out over five cities: New York, NY, New Orleans, La, Nashville, Tn, Savannah, Ga and Los Angeles, CA. Appropriately enough, these try-outs aired over the first five episodes of the season. The hopefuls were winnowed down to just 50 in three rounds as they sung in lines of 10, groups, and solos. The first of these Hollywood Week episodes aired on March 26 and April 1.
The Top 50 then gathered at Exchange in downtown Los Angeles on Feb.
