Stephen J. Cannell
Wiseguy: Jonathan Banks reprising his role from the ’80s TV series for a new feature film
Stephen J. Cannell
Stephen J. Cannell created or co-created a whole lot of popular TV shows, including The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Renegade, The Greatest American Hero, 21 Jump Street, and The Commish. Somewhere in the mix was the crime drama series Wiseguy, which Cannell co-created with Frank Lupo. That show aired on CBS for a total of 75 episodes over four seasons, running from 1987 to the end of 1990… and industry scooper Jeff Sneider of TheInSneider.com hears that it’s getting a feature film revival, with Jonathan Banks (who is best known these days for playing hitman and fixer Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad) on board to reprise his role from the original series!

Sneider’s sources inform him that The Pope’s Exorcist producers Sophie Cassidy and Jeff Katz are joining forces with Stephen J. Cannell Productions to bring the Wiseguy movie to the screen. In case you need a refresher, the...

This Emmy Nominated WWII Vet Performance in 'NCIS' Was Authentic
Image
When Charles Durning appeared on NCIS in 2004, he was neither a stranger to acting nor without knowledge of the military. The WWII veteran was a long-time presence on big and small screens. Durning's role as Corporal Earnie Yost on NCIS stood apart from many of his other roles, however, because it earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

His appearance on NCIS wasn't Durning's first nomination in the category. He was previously nominated for playing Michael Gavin on Rescue Me and Thomas Finnegan on Homicide: Life on the Streets. Additional praise for Durning came with Oscar nominations for his roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and To Be or Not to Be (1983).

In the minds of many, Durning will always be remembered for NCIS and the emotional intensity he brought to the role of Yost. Personal and powerful alike, Durning demonstrated...

This Unforgettable 'NCIS' Episode Is Finally Streaming on Netflix
Image
Quick Links'ncis' Has Seen 22 Seasons of Success"Call of Silence" Is a Great 'NCIS' EpisodeWhy "Call of Silence" Is the Best 'NCIS' Episode

On December 16, 2024, NCIS went on hiatus for six weeks following Season 22, Episode 9, "Humbug." The episode concerns the NCIS team investigating a former U.S. Marine's claim that a squad leader neglected his duties, calling to mind the long-running procedural's best hour of television. Almost 20 years to the day, "Humbug" was released after "Call of Silence," arguably the best-acted and the most compassionately moving NCIS episode ever made.

With NCIS Seasons 1-5 and 12-17 recently added to Netflix, fans new and old must see Charles Durning's tour-de-force performance in "Call of Silence," the highest-rated episode of arguably the finest season in show history. Drawing on his real-life experience as a WWII veteran, Durning's unforgettable turn proves that few NCIS episodes marry story and...

The Walking Dead's Lowest-Rated Episodes
Image
After twelve years of continuous zombie mayhem, The Walking Dead aired its final episode in November 2022. When it first aired, The Walking Dead was a phenomenon on par with Game of Thrones. However, The Walking Dead saw a dip in storytelling quality and was marred by some truly head-scratching decisions. Although it managed to dig itself out of that hole with the Whisperers storyline, the damage was done during the highly anticipated Saviors storyline, which was beloved by comic readers.

While The Walking Dead managed a return to form, despite the lack of Rick Grimes throughout the final seasons, there was nonetheless a period of time in which the show struggled immensely. This is most easily evident by a sharp decline in scores on IMDb.

Alex Danvers Gets Her Own Super Suit In New Supergirl Photos
Donald Sutherland in Alex in Wonderland (1970)
Supergirl returns this weekend but, for one week only, the title will refer to Alex Danvers rather than Kara. Called “Alex in Wonderland,” the sixteenth episode of the Girl of Steel’s fifth season will continue Alex’s adventures through Obsidian’s virtual reality world, following on from last week’s “Reality Bytes.” In that episode, we saw Alex eyeing up her own super-suit for a moment. Next time around, she’ll put it on and take to the skies as she gets a taste of her sister’s life.

Chyler Leigh has been teasing this development for a while, posting a behind-the-scenes snap of herself in the super-suit on social media. These new promo images give us a much better look at the costume, though. As you can see in the gallery below, Alex’s Supergirl suit resembles Kara’s, but with the red and blue swapped for black and turquoise.

Lex Luthor Returns In Supergirl Midseason Premiere Photos
The Arrowverse returns from its winter break tonight with the thrilling final two parts of “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” But though we’ll see Melissa Benoist’s Girl of Steel in these last installments of the crossover, Supergirl season 5 won’t resume until this Sunday. But when it does, we can expect a big shake-up to the show’s status quo.

True, we don’t know exactly what that’ll be just yet, but we can get a taste of it from these photos for the midseason premiere, titled “The Bottle Episode.” For one, the images tease that Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) will stick around after “Crisis” to continue causing problems in National City. What’s more, it looks like Jesse Rath’s Brainy will be going through some changes. Several of the pics seem to showcase him cycling through various personalities. Most notable is the fact that Rath’s...

Lex Luthor Finally Arrives In New Supergirl Synopsis
Though Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El first and foremost, it’s pretty much impossible to avoid certain hallmarks of the DC Universe due to her being the cousin of Superman. As such, Tyler Hoechlin has already shown up as Big Blue on several occasions, not to mention other vital characters such as James Olsen and Cat Grant putting in appearances as well.

So, naturally, one would think Lex Luthor wouldn’t be far behind, but aside from seeing him as a child during a flashback sequence, he’s been merely name-dropped around National City. Still, the likes of Lena and Lillian have filled the void in a sense, with the latter actually beating her son to the punch by being the first to don the Lexo suit in live action.

Fortunately, season 4 will soon bring us the moment we’ve long awaited, as Jon Cryer will debut as...

Reboot of Profit Antihero Drama Is in the Works, Says Adrian Pasdar
Adrian Pasdar in Heroes (2006)
One of TV’s seminal gone-too-soon dramas could be back-after-a-long-while.

Adrian Pasdar told TVLine that a “reboot” of Profit — which was famously pulled from Fox’s schedule after just four airings in April 1996 — is being developed by director/producer Tawnia McKiernan, daughter of Stephen J. Cannell (an Ep on the original series).

A rep for McKiernan did not respond to TVLine’s requests for comment on the status of the project.

“The time is right,” Pasdar said during a recent interview, reflecting on his title role as a ruthless businessman who preceded such TV antiheroes as Tony Soprano, Dexter Morgan and Walter White.

The Guardian Returns In New Supergirl Promo
To say that last night’s episode of Supergirl delivered some unexpected moments is quite the understatement. Sure, Kara may not have learned the true identity of Reign, but she did come pretty close. Still, the death of Livewire and the introduction of a new Worldkiller, Purity, are moments we won’t soon forget.

Next week, it looks as though the series may stray away from the Legion of Super-Heroes – at least for the moment – and instead focus on a few other unfolding situations. For starters, we can expect the battle between Morgan Edge and Lena Luthor to continue. Even having been explored sporadically thus far this season, our guess is that this thread will somehow be woven into the greater tapestry before long.

Speaking of which, it appears that Sam will continue to experience a struggle within, as her Reign persona will continue to come and go. In the past,...

The Guardian Is Back In New Supergirl Promo Images
Back in season 2, Supergirl writers aimed to spice up James Olsen’s character by having him take up crime-fighting under the guise of Guardian. However, fans didn’t take to the change much and it seems the writers themselves got bored of the development. In season 3, James hasn’t suited up once as the chrome-domed vigilante. Well, at least until now, that is.

In the upcoming eleventh episode, titled “For Good,” Mehcad Brooks’ character will finally step out from behind his desk at CatCo to dish out some justice as Guardian once again. New Synopses Tease What Lies Ahead For Supergirl And Arrow
Even though we have a few days to go until some of our favorite DC TV shows return for the back half of the current season, we’re able to peer ever so slightly into the future now that more synopses are creeping online. Don’t forget, episode descriptions tend to make their rounds three weeks ahead of time, but thankfully don’t really spoil whatever episodes come before.

First, let’s talk about Supergirl.

On January 29, it looks as though the series may stray away from the Legion of Super-Heroes – at least for that week – and instead focus on a few other unfolding situations. For starters, we can expect the battle between Morgan Edge and Lena Luthor to continue. Even having been explored sporadically thus far this season, our guess is that this thread will somehow be woven into the greater tapestry before long.

Speaking of which, it appears...

‘The Greatest American Hero’ Reboot From ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Writer in the Works at ABC
The Greatest American Hero (1981)
A re-imagining of “The Greatest American Hero” is in the works at ABC with a put pilot commitment, TheWrap has learned. The 1980s comedy superhero series starring William Katt is being revived by “Fresh Off the Boat” writer Rachna Fruchbom. Fruchbom’s take on the series will give the concept a new twist by centering on Meera, a 30-year-old Indian-American who is given superpowers and tasked with protecting the planet by a group of aliens. The project hails from 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios. Fruchbom will executive produce with Nahnatchka Khan and Mandy Summers of Fierce Baby. Tawnia McKiernan,...

Metallo And Lillian Luthor Confound Supergirl In New Clip
With mere hours to go until a brand new episode of Supergirl is set to air, the network has put out a teaser clip showing the Maiden of Might confronted by returning foes in Metallo and Lillian Luthor.

Now, we’ve known for a little bit that the Luthor matriarch would be putting in another appearance and that the Cadmus threat isn’t totally behind us, but given the recent knowledge that Lena is behind bars for some reason, it looks as though this footage takes place after some kind of jailhouse switcheroo.

Personally, I’m interested to see if the Cadmus arc will be wrapped up in this episode or sometime soon because a larger threat is seemingly looming involving that mysterious alien race that has been popping up lately. And, from what we can gather, it will have everything to do with the recently cast Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo,...

"Despite overwhelming evidence, 'Kara' (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena's name, as flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, 'Alex' (Chyler Leigh) introduces 'Maggie' (Floriana Lima) to the gang..."

Lena Luthor Is Behind Bars In These New Images From The Next Episode Of Supergirl
See Full Gallery Here

In the promo for the next episode of Supergirl, it was heavily teased that Lex Luthor would finally be making an appearance in The CW series. Unfortunately, we now know that’s not the case as a new batch of images reveal that it’s actually her mother that Lena is visiting. However, with Metallo set to break the Cadmus leader out, Lex may still have some company behind bars.

As you can see, Lena (who’s served as an ally to the Girl of Steel so far) ends up being imprisoned when she’s blamed for that, and while there’s a very good chance she’s innocent, you have to believe this could sour the budding friendship between her and Supergirl.

For more on what to expect from this episode – titled “Luthors” – here’s the officially released synopsis:

The Luthors Take Center Stage In Extended Supergirl Promo
Although it seems much of Earth-38’s mythology concerning supervillains began with Kara’s emergence as Supergirl, some key components are far behind us, such as Lex Luthor’s heyday. But that only makes sense when you consider that he’s Superman’s archnemesis, not the heroine this series focuses on.

Still, that hasn’t stopped the producers from introducing Lena and Lillian Luthor, Lex’s sister and mother, respectively, on the show. And from what we can tell, it’s the family matriarch whom Lex shares most in common with in this particular universe.

Promo For Next Week’s Supergirl Drops Some Massive Lex Luthor Easter Eggs
Despite being set in a world where Superman exists, Supergirl has often had to dance around the fact that the Man of Steel is part of this corner of the DC Extended Universe. During season 1, we caught only a glimpse of his arm or foot, and while he appeared in the first two episodes of season 2, Clark Kent’s been nowhere to be seen since.

That’s mostly because Henry Cavill is playing him on the big screen, but could Supergirl be about to introduce an alternate take on Lex Luthor? We know that Jesse Eisenberg will reprise the role in Justice League, but the promo above points to a new version showing up for a confrontation with his sister Lena as he continues rotting behind bars since being put there by Superman.

For more on what to expect from this episode of Supergirl, here’s the official synopsis for “Luthors.

Synopses For Upcoming Supergirl And Arrow Episodes Released
Now that DC TV is back in full swing, we continue looking ahead at what each series has to offer for the remainder of the season. Whether it’s the introduction of a possibly new Black Canary on Arrow or knowing Kevin Smith will return this spring to direct another episode of Supergirl, there’s much to be excited about.

When it comes to the week Valentine’s Day occupies, it looks like there won’t be as much new material to look forward to. As it turns out, both The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will be taking the week off, which is actually a smart move by the network when you consider that said shows would have been slated to air on Valentine’s Day itself and many potential viewers may have romantic plans of their own.

"Greatest American Hero" Remake Flies Again
Fox has officially given a pilot production commitment to the single-camera sci-fi dramedy series "Greatest American Hero," a remake of the classic 1981 superhero TV series.

"Dope" writer-director Rick Famuyiwa is teaming with "21 Jump Street" and "The Lego Movie" writer/directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller on this new take on Steven J. Cannell's gamed show about an ordinary man who is given a superpower suit he never asked for and must deal with the complications it brings to his life.

Miller, Lord, Seth Cohen and Tawnia McKiernan will executive produce the series and a casting director has been hired to find a leading man. This marks Lord, Miller and McKiernan's second attempt at a remake of the show following a failed attempt last season that had Rodney Rothman on board.

Greatest American Hero: Fox Commits to Revival Pilot
Believe it or not, The Greatest American Hero ran for 44 episodes over three seasons, before being cancelled by ABC, on February 3, 1983. Teacher, Ralph Hinkley (William Katt), receives a super-powered suit from aliens, who tell him that he and FBI agent Bill Maxwell (the late Robert Culp) must save the world. The two form an unlikely alliance, as Ralph learns to master the suit (the instructions to which he lost). They are helped along by Ralph's divorce lawyer/girlfriend, Pam Davidson (Connie Selleca).

In August 2014, we reported Fox was walking on air at the thought of rebooting the Stephen J. Cannell series -- to the point of investing in a put pilot. Fifteen months later, Fox has made a pilot production commitment to a series reboot, with a creative team including Rick Famuyiwa, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Tawnia McKiernan (who,...

The A-Team: TV reboot in the works
Fast & Furious and Sleepy Hollow alumni are working on a new telly version of The A-Team, for Fox...

In 2010, a crack commando unit got a film reboot from a studio that didn’t bother to continue with the franchise. Today, they survive as soldiers of fortune, and have been rebooted once more for the televisual realm. If you have a free evening, if no other show will do, and if you can find them.... maybe you will watch, The A-Team.

Indulgent intros aside, we’ll get to the point – Fox is developing a new TV version of The A-Team.

Sleepy Hollow writer Albert Kim is currently working on a script, and Tawnia McKiernan - daughter of the original series’ co-creator Stephen J. Cannell – has been lined up as a producer. Additionally, Chris Morgan – who has been heavily involved in the Fast & Furious film series – is also on board as a producer.

'A-Team' TV Show Reboot Planned with 'Furious 7' Writer
Chris Morgan
20th Century Fox Television is developing a remake of the 1980s classic TV show The A-Team, with Furious 7 screenwriter Chris Morgan coming aboard to produce the new series, according to a report from Deadline. The news comes five years after 20th Century Fox released their big-screen adaptation of The A-Team, which starred Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley and Quinton Jackson. This rebooted TV series will have a contemporary setting, with a twist on the team itself.

The original series centered on four highly-trained special forces soldiers, John "Hannibal" Smith (George Peppard), Templeton "Faceman" Peck (Dirk Benedict), H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and B.A. (Bad Attitude) Baracus (Mr. T), who escaped from a military prison after being detained for a crime they didn't commit. They fled to Los Angeles and began working as "soldiers of fortune," using their immense skills to help people in need, while trying to clear their name.

We Pity the Fools: The A-Team Is Getting Another Remake
Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, and Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson in The A-Team (2010)
Reboot fever is far from over: Deadline reports that The A-Team will get a second life on TV. This time around, Fast and the Furious writer-producer Chris Morgan will executive-produce the action show for Fox (the original aired on NBC) alongside Tawnia McKiernan, daughter of the show's original creator, Stephen J. Cannell. It'll have the same premise: A group of American Special Forces ops get framed for a crime they didn't commit, only now the group will prominently feature women instead of mostly putting them on the sidelines, like the original series did with Amy Amanda "Triple A" Allen. In 2010, Fox also remade the series as a feature film starring Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson that wasn't exactly the box-office smash it hoped for. Perhaps, in its original TV format, it'll fare better — especially if they get Ed Sheeran to revamp the theme song.

Stephen J. Cannell
Ready For An A-Team TV Reboot?
Stephen J. Cannell
Thirty years ago, a crack commando unit was sent to television by producer Stephen J. Cannell for The A-Team, a series about helping people in need as soldiers of fortune. After five years, they escaped into the Los Angeles underground until 2010, when the characters were given the big budget film treatment by Joe Carnahan. Now, 20th Century Fox Television has found them again and is planning a reboot series.Yes, while the movie version had its Ott charms but never pulled off the trick of launching a film franchise, the rights holders are now pinning their hopes on a refreshed TV series. Sleepy Hollow writer/producer Albert Kim and regular telly director Tawnia McKiernan (who also happens to be Cannell’s daughter) are set to be locked in a garage until they finish retooling the series for contemporary audiences, adding some new spins to the format including a more diverse...

New A-team Series In The Works; Will Feature Female Members
There's a new A-Team TV series in the works at 20th Century Fox with Fast & Furious writer-producer Chris Morgan executive producing alongside the daughter of the original show's creator, TV director Tawnia McKiernan, with Sleepy Hollow executive producer Albert Kim on board as writer. Fox's big screen outing for the motley bunch of mercenaries was not very successful, so they've obviously decided to take the guys back to their TV roots; but whether we'll see original characters Hannibal, B.A., Murdock, and Face is not revealed. Whether the classic team returns of not, one thing we do know from the following description that accompanies Deadline's report is that there will definitely be some new faces - because the roster will be made up of both male and female characters. Furious 7 Producer Bringing The A-Team Back To Television
Things did not go well for 20th Century Fox when they released a big screen reboot of The A-Team, but because there obviously aren’t already enough TV shows which are prequels, sequels, or remakes, they’re now bringing these characters to the small screen.

The A-Team was a hit back in the 1980s, and this contemporary remake is coming from executive producer Chris Morgan (Furious 7) and the daughter of the show’s creator, TV director Tawnia McKiernan. Sleepy Hollow executive producer Albert Kim is writing the adaptation, which is described as follows:

The new A-Team revolves around a diverse team of American Special Forces operatives. Unlike the original all-male squad, the new team will include both male and female members. The group have been framed for a crime they didn’t commit and set out to clear their names by uncovering the black-ops conspiracy that set them up.
