So says Taye Diggs of Terry McMillan, the writer-producer who catapulted him to stardom in 1998 with How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Reflecting on that period of his life, the 54-year-old actor remembers fully expecting to become a star. "I don't know who I thought I was," he recalls with a laugh (watch our full video interview above). "I remember graduating from college and saying, 'I'm going straight to the top.' When I got Rent (on Broadway) I was like, 'Ok, when is the next movie coming?' I don't know where I got that confidence from because I don't have it anymore."

Garcelle Beauvais is exiting The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

The star made the announcement herself in an Instagram video on Tuesday, the morning before the finale airs for the 14th season of the Bravo series. In her video, she cited her family and acting and producing projects outside of the show as the reason for her exit, while also leaving the door open to return in some capacity down the line.

Bravo has confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter; a source confirmed to THR that she is leaving on her own accord.

“So I have some news. I’ve decided to leave Beverly Hills,” said Beauvais in her video. “It’s been a wild ride. I mean, some amazing things have happened and some hard things have also happened, but it’s been a ride nevertheless. One of the reasons why I’m leaving is my family, my boys.

New York Times bestselling author Terry McMillan has partnered with Lifetime to executive produce several new original movies under the banner, “Terry McMillan Presents.” Her new movies for the network, which will be announced at a later time, will focus on the love and lives of African American women.

Lifetime previously collaborated with McMillan on the 2014 TV movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Tichina Arnold and Ving Rhames.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, star Angela Bassett recently spoke about working with Whoopi Goldberg on the set of How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Bassett said that "it was a blessing" to work with the Sister Act star and revealed that Goldberg made sure that the crew working on the 1998 film were taken care of.

The 1998 movie rom-com is a film adaptation of Terry McMillian's book, How Stella Got Her Groove Back. The film follows Stella Payne (played by Bassett), a successful San Francisco stock broker whose friend Delilah Abraham (played by Goldberg) convinces her to take a trip to Jamaica. During their vacation, Stella ends up falling for a younger local named Winston Shakespeare (played by Taye Diggs).

Chicago – It’s Oscar Week, as the 95th Academy Awards will be broadcast on Sunday, March 12th, 2023, on ABC-tv. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress is Angela Bassett for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” her second nomination after “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” in 1994.

After earning her Masters Degree at the Yale School of Drama in the 1980s, Bassett took to the New York stage, most notably in two of August Wilson’s “Pittsburgh Cycle” plays. She expanded with parts in film and TV, including “Boyz in the Hood” (1991). Breakthrough recognition would come in the next couple of years, as Bassett co-starred with Denzel Washington in “Malcolm X” (as Malcolm’s wife Betty Shabazz) and her Oscar nominated role as Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do with It” (1993).

Imax is adding two heavy hitters to its board, naming longtime entertainment executive Gail Berman and Reddit chief operating officer Jen Wong as directors.

Berman, an award-winning and prolific content creator with a diverse career across film, TV, digital media, and Broadway, is a producer of much-decorated and Oscar-nominated Best Picture Elvis and head of production studio Jackal Group.

Wong has led digital sales and strategy at a number of global media firms.

“As we continue to diversify and grow the IMAX business across platforms and around the world, we continue to bring new expertise onto our Board and both Gail and Jen have deep, proven experience across the media and entertainment landscape,” said Imax CEO Rich Gelfond. Welch’s management confirmed her death to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. The star was known for such film roles in the 1960s and ’70s as Fantastic Voyage, One Million Years B.C., Bedazzled, Kansas City Bomber and The Three Musketeers.

The cast of “The Best Man” film franchise is reuniting for a limited series that has been ordered at Peacock.

“The Best Man: Final Chapters” will feature returning cast members Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Harold Perrineau.

Peacock has ordered 10 episodes, with Malcolm D. Lee and Dayna Lynne North onboard to write and executive produce. Lee previously directed and wrote the two films in the franchise — “The Best Man” and “The Best Man Holiday.”

“Here we go! The band is back together!” Lee said. “I am very excited to bring these iconic characters back to the fans who have supported us through this franchise. A TV reboot to Forest Whitaker’s 1995 film “Waiting to Exhale” is in development at ABC from Lee Daniels.

The project currently has a script commitment plus penalty and is set at 20th Television, where Daniels has an overall deal. Daniels will executive produce alongside Marc Velez and 3Arts. Anthony Hemingway will direct with Attica and Tembi Locke writing the script. Terry McMillan, who wrote the book that the 1995 film was was based on, is a consulting producer.
