Sylvester Stallone at an event for The Oscars (2016)
Over The Top | Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling epic heading to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
Sylvester Stallone at an event for The Oscars (2016)
Sylvester Stallone drives a truck and arm wrestles in Over The Top, and now you can see all this in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Finally. The best part of a decade into the life of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format, and we’re finally getting to the lower shelves of the video shop. Case in point, the Sylvester Stallone 1987 feature Over The Top, a film where Cannon Films paid Sly a fortune for a movie that’s ridiculously good fun. A decent double bill with Cobra, I’d suggest, although neither movie really performed at the box office.

Anyroad, Over The Top sees him playing Lincoln ‘Linc’ Hawk. He’s a very manly man, who drives a massive truck and also takes part in arm wrestling competitions. In fact, you can see the fridge magnet pitch: Rocky, but with arm wrestling. Give me Rocky with crown green bowls next.

Greatest Sylvester Stallone Non-Rocky Movies
Image
Since his breakout role as Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone has risen to be one of the most successful and powerful men in Hollywood. Arguably the king of 1980s macho action movies, along with Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone has headlined a slew of incredibly iconic films. Even today, the seasoned actor has been involved in some fantastic films from across genres.

Sylvester Stallone has played everything from troubled soldiers and hard-boiled assassins to straight-laced detectives and athletes. The actor best fits into physical roles that show off his physique and action prowess, but he's proven himself as versatile an actor as any of his peers. The action hero has one of the best streaks of movies in the business, and his range extended far beyond Rocky.

14 Best Sylvester Stallone Films, Ranked
Image
Sylvester Stallone has been a fixture of pop culture for some 50 years, and it began with "Rocky," one of Hollywood's biggest success stories. That is not hyperbole. Stallone wrote a script that took him from obscurity and made him an Oscar-nominated actor and writer with instant star power and a few million in the bank.

Hopes were high for Stallone. Roger Ebert, for instance, wrote that the young actor reminded him of Marlon Brando, who had played a journeyman fighter in "On The Waterfront." However, thanks to mindless vanity pieces like "Cobra" and "Rambo: First Blood Part II," it wouldn't be long before such a comparison was viewed with derision.

Still, people shouldn't forget what made Stallone a success from 1976 to 1982, during which he proved himself as an actor of intelligence, naturalism, and heart. A mixture of ego and '80s commercialism reoriented his dramatic foundation throughout the rest of the decade,...

Sylvester Stallone's Ex-Wife Brigitte Nielsen Says Sexual Assault is a Lie
Sylvester Stallone's ex-wife, Brigitte Nielsen, says there is no way Stallone could have sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Las Vegas because she was with him the entire time. The Daily Mail posted a story that the 16-year-old met Stallone in 1986 during the filming of "Over the Top" and he invited the girl to his hotel room at the Vegas Hilton where he allegedly forced her to have oral sex with him as his bodyguard raped her.

Sylvester Stallone Denies Sexually Assaulting a 16-Year-Old Fan in 1986: 'It Never Happened'
Sylvester Stallone, David Mendenhall, and Rick Zumwalt in Over the Top (1987)
Sylvester Stallone is vehemently denying an allegation that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in 1986, when he was 40 years old.

On Thursday, the Daily Mail published a report that Stallone was accused of sexually assaulting a teenager while he was shooting his film Over the Top in Las Vegas, citing the police report. According to the report, the alleged victim said she had been "intimidated" into having sex with both Stallone and his bodyguard at the time, Michael De Luca.

“This is a ridiculous, categorically false story," Michelle Bega, spokeswoman for 71-year-old Stallone said in a statement to Et, adding that Stallone says "It never happened." "No one was ever aware of this story until it was published today, including Mr. Stallone. At no time was Mr. Stallone ever contacted by any authorities or anyone else regarding this matter.”

According to the police report published by The Daily Mail, the alleged victim said she met Stallone at the arcade...

Sylvester Stallone Accused of Sexually Abusing Teen Girl
Sylvester Stallone at an event for The Oscars (2016)
And the hits just keep coming. A police report from 1986 has surfaced accusing Sylvester Stallone of sexual assaulting a 16-year old girl. The Rocky star was 40-years old when the unnamed teenager revealed to Las Vegas police that she had been "intimidated" into having sex with Stallone and his bodyguard Michael 'Mike' De Luca at the former Las Vegas Hilton hotel in July of 1986 during the production of the arm-wrestling drama Over the Top. The police report also says that the teen became "very uncomfortable" at that point, but felt like she had "no choice" but to go on, the report states.

The Daily Mail reports that Mike De Luca, who was killed in 2013, made the 16-year old give him oral sex, then "came around and had vaginal sex with her." Sylvester Stallone then allegedly "made her give him a blow job." The girl, who was staying at the hotel with family and friends,...

Examining the prison movies of Sylvester Stallone
Odd List Ryan Lambie 17 Mar 2014 - 06:02

With Escape Plan out today, we look back at the strange prominence of prisons in Sylvester Stallone movies...

In his blockbuster movies, Tom Cruise likes to ride motorcycles and run with his fingers outstretched. Jean-Claude Van Damme likes to wear tight lycra and do the splits a lot. Arnold Schwarzenegger likes to make that sort of guttural "graargh" noise when he gets into fights.

Sylvester Stallone, on the other hand, has his own set of interests and habits. He likes to fire machine guns one-handed, scream while flying helicopters, and making a "hurgh!" noise when he does something athletic. Also, he has a tendency to star in films that involve prisons.

Now, admittedly, Stallone's appeared in lots of films where there's no sign of jail cells, sadistic prison wardens or metal trays with hideous food piled up on them. But then again, he has appeared in these.

Sylvester Stallone at an event for The Oscars (2016)
Stallone-a-Thon: Over the Top (1987)
Sylvester Stallone at an event for The Oscars (2016)
In honor of Friday's release of The Expendables, we're taking a week-long look at the action films of Sir Sylvester Stallone -- which is to say we're skipping his comedies. Out of respect.

Title: Over the Top

Setting: Present-day 1987, all across America

Our hero: Cross-country truck driver / absentee father Lincoln Hawk (Sylvester Stallone, who also co-wrote the screenplay and must've given himself that ultra-patriotic moniker)

Our villain/s: Rich grandfather Jason Cutler (Robert Loggia); five-time arm wrestling world champion Bob "Bull" Hurley (Rick Zumwalt)

The stakes: Custody of young son Michael (David Mendenhall), which is especially important now that Lincoln's estranged wife is on her deathbed; $100k in prize money; *and* a brand new tractor truck for any champion who just so happened to hock his own off in a moment of Act II desperation!

Filed under: Action, Sports, Warner Brothers
