‘Real Women Have Curves’ Announces Broadway Closing
Image
Real Women Have Curves: The Musical will play its final Broadway performance on June 29 following 31 previews and 73 regular performances.

The musical opened April 27 at The James Earl Jones Theatre to mostly favorable reviews, but never really caught on at the box office during a spring that saw huge receipts for star-driven productions. For the week ending June 15, Real Women Have Curves filled only 63% of available receipts, grossing just $365,252 with an average ticket price of $68.63.

Based on the play by Josefina López and the 2002 film adaptation starring America Ferrera, Real Women Have Curves focuses on a group of immigrants working at a small dress-making shop in East L.A. The musical mixes family drama and self-acceptance with larger social themes about immigration, with the threat of deportation ever present.

“We have been working on developing this show for the last five years and could have never predicted that when it made...

‘Real Women Have Curves’ But The Musical Is Thin – Broadway Review
Image
In the second act of Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, opening tonight on Broadway at the James Earl Jones Theatre, the women working in a hot, small, ramshackle California dress factory momentarily break free of inhibition and ageism and the body shame over their various sizes and shapes and, following the lead of the defiant, soon-off-for-college Ana (Tatianna Córdoba), one by one strip down to their underwear and sing the title song. It’s a scene that’s funny, tender, compassionate and so well-performed by the eight women on stage that it earned a mid-show standing ovation the night I was in attendance.

The scene also succinctly and entertainingly presents the humor, pride, tenacity and bravery of a Latino community under constant siege and scrutiny.

Unfortunately, there are too few other moments in Real Woman Have Curves that soar like that, that deliver the joy and delight of shaking...

Myra images show Charlotte Kirk in action thriller
Image
When you see images of Charlotte Kirk looking like a tough action heroine, you usually expect those images to be from a Neil Marshall film, as the couple has recently collaborated on Duchess, The Lair, and The Reckoning – but yesterday, the folks at Coming Soon unveiled a trio of images that show Kirk as the tough heroine in the upcoming action thriller Myra, and this is not a Neil Marshall movie. Currently in production in Tijuana, Mexico, Myra is coming our way from director R. Ellis Frazier, whose previous credits include Across the Line: The Exodus of Charlie Wright, Dead Drop, Misfire, Rumble, 8 Days Carlo, Larceny, Legacy, Hustle Down, Repeater, As Good as Dead, and Day Labor. The images that show Kirk as the title character can now be seen in this article.

Scripted by Frazier and Benjamin Budd, Myra follows an ex-gang member who escapes to Tijuana, Mexico with...

‘Ruthless’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Dermot Mulroney, Melissa Diaz, Mauricio Mendoza, Tonantzin Esparza, Rafael Cabrera, Jeff Fahey | Written by Art Camacho, James Dean Simington, Javier Reyna, Koji Steven Sakai | Directed by Art Camacho

With ten movies and five episodes of TV shows to his credit for 2023, Dermot Mulroney seems to be vying to fill the gap left by the retirement of Bruce Willis. Ruthless proves he’s already mastered sleepwalking through a film every bit as well as he could. Sadly, he won’t be the only one sleeping as this film manages to make human trafficking deadly, deadly dull, that is.

Harry just wanted to go watch a movie. But he ends up telling off some kid who isn’t listening when his date says no. That, of course, leads to the kid pulling a knife on him in the parking lot. That’s not a good idea because Harry is a man...

Ruthless Interview: Star Dermot Mulroney On Becoming Action Star & Fake Scream 6 Spoilers
Image
Dermot Mulroney stars as an action hero in the thriller Ruthless, taking on a character-driven storyline and performing his own stunts. The film is an all-out brawl thriller in the same vein as Taken, sure to please action genre fans. Mulroney's character is a high school wrestling coach who takes it upon himself to save his student from a human trafficking ring, unleashing his built-up rage in the process.

Dermot Mulroney becomes an action hero in Ruthless. The thriller centers around Harry, a high school wrestling coach still grappling with the death of his daughter at the hands of an abusive boyfriend. When he learns of one of his students' family issues and her disappearance being tied to a human trafficking ring, Harry takes it upon himself to save her and let loose some of the rage that's been building.

Alongside Mulroney, the Ruthless cast includes Alita: Battle Angel's Jeff Fahey,...

Official Trailer for 'Ruthless' Action Thriller Starring Dermot Mulroney
Image
"Pick your fights, Harry!" "I will." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for Ruthless, another action crime thriller from the direct-to-video trash pile getting a release this year. Ruthless is the latest film from director Art Camacho, and it's yet another of these "one man will fight to stop a trafficking ring" stories that are being used over-and-over these days. Not at all original, and not really an interesting premise anymore beyond making people endlessly fearful and worried. Also similar to the original Taken. In Ruthless, a high school coach, whose teenage daughter was murdered, takes matters into his own hands and going after the men who kidnap his student as part of a human trafficking operation. Dermot Mulroney stars as Harry, along with Jeff Fahey, Melissa Diaz, Mauricio Mendoza, Tonantzin Esparza, and Niko Foster. I will admit, Mulroney does look badass in this being so burn-it-all-down ruthless in here.

Shrapnel Clip Teases Action & Revenge for Jason Patric and Cam Gigandet
Image
The Lost Boys star Jason Patric teams up with Never Back Down star Cam Gigandet in the upcoming action outing, Shrapnel, and we’ve gotten our hands on an exclusive clip. Coming courtesy of Saban Films, Shrapnel promises the kind of no-nonsense action that can sometimes really hit the spot as Patric and Gigandet embark on an R-rated mission for revenge. Check out our exclusive clip from Shrapnel below.

“When Sean’s daughter goes missing on the Mexican border, he teams up with his former Marine partner (Cam Gigandet) to face off against the cartel who kidnapped her,” the official synopsis for Shrapnel reads. And it is certainly a synopsis that suggests Shrapnel will strip away the fat and serve up all manner of action movie delights.

The footage finds Patric’s character Sean Beckwith turning to his brother in arms, Cam Gigandet’s Max Vohden, for advice after his daughter is kidnapped.

Jason Patric & Cam Gigandet in Border Action Thriller 'Shrapnel' Trailer
Image
"You promised to keep us safe. You didn't." Saban Films has launched an official trailer for another of these junk action thrillers called Shrapnel, on VOD to watch in late July. This is the third film out this year from a filmmaker you've never heard of named William Kaufman - his other two are The Channel and Warhorse One. None of these films do anything unique or different. In this one, when Sean's daughter goes missing on the Mexican border, he teams up with his former Marine partner to face off against the Mexican cartel that kidnapped her. Oh, how original. The film stars Jason Patric as Sean, with Cam Gigandet, Kesia Elwin, Mauricio Mendoza, and Guillermo Iván. This looks so boring and so dumb. "Whether she's alive or not, nobody's gettin' out of there." Does anyone even watch these movies? Please don't waste any time or money. // Continue Reading...

Scott Adkins Battles Mario Van Peebles in Action Thriller 'Seized' Trailer
Mario Van Peebles and Scott Adkins in Seized (2020)
"There are no good people in there - no saints, only sinners." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an action thriller titled Seized, the latest from B-movie action filmmaker Isaac Florentine (who also made Acts of Vengeance with Adkins). Mma action star Scott Adkins plays a former Special Forces agent whose son is kidnapped and must now wipe out three dangerous crime syndicates if he wants to see him alive again. Adkins has been starring in endless action movies recently, none of them worth watching, but he still keeps making them - he's also in Debt Collectors and Legacy of Lies this year. Seized also features Mario Van Peebles with a killer cowboy hat, Steven Elder, Karlee Perez, James P. Bennett, David Fernandez Jr., Luis Gatica, and Mauricio Mendoza. Another day, another mindless bland action movie to ignore. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Isaac Florentine's Seized, direct from...

‘The Hospital’ DVD Review
Stars: Whitney Anderson, Yeniffer Behrens, Mauricio Mendoza, Christopher Allen-Nelson, Kara Luiz, Michael G. Coleman, Caroline Mann, Paul Dietz, Mike Jerome Putnam | Written by John Rogers, Mo Anouti, Edward Conna | Directed by John Rogers

Not to be confused with the 2013 film of the same name, which was pulled from Tesco shelves after customer complaints over its graphic sex and violence, this iteration of The Hospital is actually a retitling of 2015′s The Linda Vista Project from director John (J.J.) Rogers – who has worked behind the scenes on numerous Dtv horror flicks previously, however this marks his directorial debut in the genre.

[Sidenote: The Hospital was also touted as a possible supermarket-friendly title for the UK release of Dustin Mills' The Ballad of Skinless Pete, at least until the UK distributor, now a favourite with genre fans, reneged on the contract and the film never saw the light of day]

The Hospital follows paranormal researcher Emily Strand (Whitney Anderson; Zombie Strippers, Toolbox Murders 2), who is given a chance to prove the existence of the supernatural at the now derelict Linda Vista Hospital. Rumours and claims of spectral activity have surrounded the former hospital since it was first built...
