Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, And Wes Craven Once Collaborated On A Forgotten Horror Movie
Image
John Gulager's 2005 goopy horror/comedy flick "Feast" was the resulting film wrought by season three of "Project Greenlight." For those unfamiliar with "Project Greenlight," it was a documentary series on HBO (previously on Bravo in 2005) overseen by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Each season, the two stars would host a screenwriting competition, seeking the best scripts they could find from amateur or unproven authors. The winner would then see their script made into a feature film. Sometimes the writer would direct their own film, sometimes a first-time filmmaker would be paired with the screenplay. "Project Greenlight" then followed the filmmaking process, from casting through final editing, detailing the way a low-budget film is made. The finished movies each got limited theatrical runs.

The idea behind "Project Greenlight" was to offer aspiring filmmakers their "big break," adding new voices to the filmmaking community. It's a neat idea, although the films...

Kevin Smith Addresses Writing Unmade Nicolas Cage Superman Movie & Reveals Robert Rodriguez Almost Directed The DC Project
Image
Recently, Kevin Smith opened up about whether he had any major regrets in his 30-plus years making movies, and his answer was—expectedly—not making Superman Lives. While the DC Universe is littered with scrapped film and television projects, none are more infamous. The unmade film would have starred Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel, and one of the candidates to direct was Robert Rodriguez. Notably, the film suffered a lot of production setbacks, including multiple changes in directing and writing staff. This ultimately affected Smith himself when new project director Tim Burton chose Wesley Strick to replace him.

Nearly three decades later, Smith still speaks of Superman Lives as a great what-if. He explained: "If I could make anything that didn't happen, happen, I think it would be that." He then clarified that he felt this was largely "because [he] didn't have the pressure of directing the movie" himself.

From Grammy Nominated Hip Hop Artist To Indie Filmmaker With ‘Paradise Records’: The Rise Of Logic – Crew Call Podcast
Image
On today’s Crew Call we sit down with Logic aka Sir Robert Bryson Hall II (Sir is reportedly part of his birth name) who rose from the hard-scrabbled environs of Gaithersburg, Maryland from a family wrestling with crime and addiction to become a multi-platinum rapper with albums such as 2014’s “Under Pressure” and 2015’s “The Incredible True Story”.

Despite selling out arenas, and raking in millions, Logic had to scratch that itch for filmmaking. In fact his younger self became passionate about cinema and hip hop after watching Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 Kill Bill: Vol. 1; that movie’s scored produced by RZA, a member of Wu-Tang Clan. (The title of Logic’s seventh mixtape “Bobby Tarantino III” in 2021 is a nod to the Pulp Fiction director).

One of the first cinematic mentors to reach out to Logic was none other than...

‘Jc, Take the Wheel!’ Kevin Smith Looks Back on His Hilariously Heretical ‘Dogma’ 25 Years Later
Image
In 1999, the religious world was rocked by Dogma, the most ambitious film yet from writer and director Kevin Smith following Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy, each of which he also featured in as Silent Bob alongside the verbose and foul-mouthed Jay (played by longtime friend Jason Mewes). With a star-studded cast including Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as angels cast out of heaven, Linda Fiorentino as an abortion clinic worker who turns out to be a scion of Jesus, George Carlin as a cynical cardinal, Chris Rock as an unknown 13th apostle,...

Exclusive: Kevin Smith opens the Pearly gates on plans for a 4K Steelbook version of Dogma
Kevin Smith
Lord have mercy! With an anticipated re-release around the corner for the film’s 25th anniversary, Kevin Smith is full of surprises regarding his 1999 comedy classic Dogma. Considered by many to be one of Smith’s most excellent films (my wife loves this movie), Dogma skirts the line between blasphemy, sinful comedy, and clever observation that could sway someone teetering on the edge of re-evaluating their allegiances to a higher power. Speaking with Smith for an upcoming interview, JoBlo’s Tyler Nichols inquired about plans for Dogma’s re-release on physical media. Smith answered by blessing us with confirmation about a 4K Steelbook release for Dogma in the coming months (watch the clip above!).

Smith says he’s working closely with a “popular physical media distributor” to get a 4K Steelbook version of Dogma ready for a December release. He says the 4K restoration of the comedy that makes some Catholics cringe looks fantastic,...

“I Cracked the Story”: Kevin Smith Teases His ‘Dogma’ Sequel and Which Original Cast Will Return
Image
This weekend, Kevin Smith’s satirical religious masterpiece, Dogma, celebrates a limited return to cinemas more than two decades after its initial release. History repeated itself for the director and his prized title just last month when it screened at the Cannes Film Festival, where it celebrated its world premiere 26 years ago. Both times it was met with a standing ovation, but this time it felt different for Smith, who says the second go-around further inspired him to push forward with the movie’s previously announced follow-up.

In an interview with Deadline following his returning Cannes success, the mind behind the View Askewniverse opened up about where he was in the process for the sequel and gave away some other tantalizing details about which characters he’s planning to include.

Describing the first step in his writing process as “whimsying,” Smith explained,

“I’ve been whimsying about it for the last six months,...

‘Dogma’s Triumphant Cannes Return Has Inspired Kevin Smith To Make A “Cannes-Worthy” Sequel: “A Sweet Victory Lap”
Image
More than 25 years, four popes and a near-death experience later, Kevin Smith has never felt more inspired to revisit his 1999 religious satire Dogma.

Following the film’s “sweet victory lap” at the 78th Cannes Film Festival last month, where a screening of the film was met with a seven-minute ovation, the multi-hyphenate told Deadline, he wants to return to the festival by 2028 with a “Cannes-worthy” sequel.

“What I didn’t realize is, I would get there and I’d get bit by the bug again, and I’d be seeing all these places, these haunts from my childhood, from my 20s, so to speak, from the three times I was there when I was a kid,” explained Smith. “And suddenly, I was like, ‘Why is it that you assume that the Cannes-worthy portion of your life is over? You never even expected it to begin in the first place. It...

‘Dogma’ Was the Last Time People Took Kevin Smith Seriously
Image
Recently Kevin Smith, who turns 55 later this summer, was reflecting on one of his greatest filmmaking challenges.

“I’ve been doing this 31 years now,” he said, “and the culture should have been done with me a long time ago. But I’m not done with it, and so I keep, you know, foisting myself on the culture over and over again. So, it’s always this battle for relevancy that you’re always kind of hoping is on your side. But you know the longer you’ve been around, the longer in the tooth you get, and it gets harder and harder to find that relevancy.”

The reason for the interview was the theatrical re-release of Dogma, which returns to the big screen on June 5th in honor of its (not really) 25th anniversary. Smith has been touring this remastered version, now being presented in 4K, and even screened the film in Cannes,...

‘Clerks: The Animated Series’ Was a Weird, Ambitious Hidden Gem
Image
Television history is filled with plenty of infamous flops that barely made it to air before the networks gave them the chop: 2012 crossdressing series “Work It,” a 2007 musical drama “Viva Laughin” that the New York Times referred to as possibly “the worst show in the history of television,” and the 1990 British sitcom about Hitler “Heil Honey, I’m Home.” 25 years ago, an animated series adaptation of Kevin Smith’s 1994 cult film “Clerks” joined that dubious club — and seemed cheerfully aware of its fate the entire time.

In the pilot episode of the ABC adult animated sitcom, which remarkably was not one of the two episodes that were broadcast before the show got canceled and burned off over at Comedy Central, the lead characters Dante and Randal (voiced by Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson) watch an episode of “The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer” — “America’s #1 sitcom,” as they put it. A...

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes on What the Hell They’re Doing in a ‘Call of Duty’ Game
Image
When you think of an ideal soldier, you probably picture someone like Captain America — a regimented, disciplined, muscular person fighting for justice. It’s much less likely that you think of two weed-dealing slackers who spend most of their time chilling in front of a New Jersey convenience store. Nonetheless, Jay and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes) were recently added as playable characters in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone.

According to both Smith and Mewes, who joined me for separate interviews via Zoom, the pairing of these characters and Call of Duty is perfectly natural, especially as part of the game’s 4/20 promotion, which has previously enlisted the likes Cheech and Chong. The two were also happy to discuss how their own Irl friendship compares to that of Jay and Silent Bob’s and what other video games they’d like to see their characters in.

Kevin Smith’s Re-Released ‘Dogma’ Acquired By Goodfellas For International Sales – Cannes Market
Image
Exclusive: Goodfellas is getting behind Kevin Smith’s mission to theatrically re-release his controversial 1999 religious satire Dogma, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as fallen angels, after a tumultuous launch first time round.

The maverick Paris-based sales company has acquired international rights to the remastered 4K edition of the film, which is screening in the Cannes Film Festival’s Cannes Classics sidebar this year.

The Cannes splash follows Smith’s announcement last October that he had gotten the rights back to the movie which had been out of his hands since the initial release. This acquisition was made by Triple Media Film in partnership with View Askew Productions.

Under the care of Triple Media Film, the film is fully remastered in 4K, and was supervised by Oscar-nominated director of photography Robert Yeoman, who was the cinematographer on Dogma, ahead of going to work on multiple films with Wes Anderson including The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Kevin Smith’s Dogma to Screen at This Year’s Cannes
Image
Praise be to Buddy Christ, because Kevin Smith’s Dogma is going to France. Kevin Smith’s acclaimed religious satire will be playing at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival as an official selection in the Cannes Classics situation, screening May 22nd at the Palais des Festivals.

Dogma screened out of competition at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival, before its theatrical release later that year. Now, its arrival at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival comes during the movie’s ongoing Resurrection Tour, which began on Easter Sunday in Los Angeles and sold out its 20-city tour in the first 24 hours, with additional shows being added in every market.

“Sold out screenings, standing ovations, and now Cannes? This is beyond divine,” Kevin Smith said in a statement. “To see Dogma honored as a Cannes Classic is a true blessing… We made this movie with humor, heresy and a hell of a lot of heart. And somehow,...

How Kevin Smith Hilariously Failed To Give Alan Rickman A Line Reading In Dogma
Image
When Kevin Smith shot "Clerks" for $27,575, he'd received a small amount of film school training but was a babe in the woods when it came to the crucial aspect of directing actors. It shows in the movie, which is so stiffly performed that I've never been able to connect to it. The screenplay is undeniably hilarious and wise in the ways of the workaday convenience store world, but Smith's actors seem so oddly strangled. It's not the kind of acting you get in a poorly rehearsed community theater production where you can see the actors struggling to remember their lines; it's more like you're watching people who've been unnaturally directed. Their performances are really those of their director, not their own.

The off performances in "Clerks" and "Mallrats" began to make sense years later when I heard that Smith had a penchant for committing the cardinal sin of directing. Be it theater,...

Kevin Smith Has Been Writing Dogma 2, But There Will Be Two Major Changes In The Sequel
Image
For the longest time, word about what might be happening with the 1999 Kevin Smith opus "Dogma" was nil. Trapped in the clutches of the Weinstein Brothers, it seemed that the original movie was likely to never be re-released in theaters or on physical or streaming media, never mind the long-rumored sequel coming to pass. Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of Iconic Events and others, Smith has regained control of the film and as such, has embarked on a massive multi-city tour, showing a spiffy new restoration of the movie as well as appearing in super-sized post-screening Q&a sessions. Both this writer and /Film's Ethan Anderton were lucky to attend a couple of these screenings, and got to hear some fascinating tales about the making of "Dogma" and its resurrection.

Although Smith mentioned at both screenings that he is currently working on a proper "Dogma" sequel, it was at the...

"Two tickets to New Jersey, please." The two fallen angels are back! Kevin Smith has revealed a brand new trailer for the 25th Anniversary of Dogma, his celebrated religious comedy classic that first opened in 1999. Kevin Smith’s Dogma is getting a theatrical re-release for its 25th anniversary
Kevin Smith
A few months ago, writer/director Kevin Smith confirmed that his 1999 film Dogma, which he had said was being “held hostage” by the infamous Harvey Weinstein for years, has been “bought away” from that guy by a company that was interested in having Smith take it on tour in theatres around the country. Now, we know which company has purchased Dogma – it’s Iconic Events – and they have announced that they’re giving the film a theatrical re-release to celebrate its 25th anniversary! (Or 26th.) And yes, they’re also having Kevin Smith tour with it. A trailer, which you can watch in the embed above, has dropped online to let us know that the re-release is officially scheduled for June 5th – but Smith will be touring the film ahead of that date!

Kevin Smith Revisits Dogma Filming Location in New Photo, Drops Exciting Sequel Tease
Image
Filmmaker Kevin Smith’sDogma has become a cult classic since its release in 1999, and lately there’s been buzz about a sequel to the movie that starred Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two angels who were banished from heaven. The Dogma writer-director further fueled the fire of the Dogma 2 rumors in a recent post on Threads that featured a picture of himself in front of the church where some of the film’s scenes were shot.

His post from Feb. 11 read: “We shot Dogma here 26 years ago, at the Saints Peter and Paul Church in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh! [Alan Rickman] and [George Carlin] (and my Dad) all stood on the steps of this cinematically sacred place back then, whilst they lived. And this year, we’re gonna honor all of ‘em… when we resurrect Dogma! More info very soon, Parishioners!”

Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Bowl Commercial Wasn’t the Weirdest ‘Clerks’ Cameo of the Night
Image
The big winner of this year’s Super Bowl, once again, was gratuitous pop-culture nostalgia. In addition to a Muppets-themed travel ad, and Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan’s horny condiment commercial, ‘90s stoners Jay and Silent Bob popped up in a Ben Affleck-centric spot for Dunkin’.

Affleck once again donned an orange tracksuit to perform with the “DunKings,” his Dunkin’-branded boy band (although the word “boy” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there). The DunKings now also include Ben’s brother Casey, Bill Belichick, and Jeremy Strong, who we briefly see emerging from a vat of coffee grounds like a more svelte Baron Harkonnen.

Forget about Jay Leno, who does Ben Affleck owe money to?

The extended version of the ad features Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes as Silent Bob and Jay, respectively. They show up at Java Jam, which is some kind of coffee-themed fan convention.

Dunkin’ Donuts Have Released ‘DunKings 2: The Movie’, Starring Ben & Casey Affleck, Jeremy Strong, Kevin Smith
Image
Dunkin’ made a big splash during the Super Bowl with its latest ad, bringing back the DunKings in a hilarious new installment.

The commercial, which aired during the first break of the game, featured Ben Affleck in his full Boston-accented glory, joined by his brother Casey Affleck and Succession star Jeremy Strong. But that was just a preview of what Dunkin’ had in store. The full seven-minute short film, DunKings 2: The Movie, takes the coffee-loving boy band on a wild new adventure.

The story follows Ben Affleck as he tries to recruit Casey to compete at Java Jam, a coffee-themed battle of the bands. Though skeptical at first, Casey eventually joins the fun, and they set off to take on rival groups like the Drip Squad, the Burger Chain Gang, and the Barista Buds.

Along the way, they run into Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, who reprise their famous Jay and Silent Bob roles,...

Superbowl $8 Million Ads: Ben Affleck’s Salary For Dunkin’ Donuts’ Ad Must be More Than His Paycheck For the Best Movie of His Career

Ben Affleck is one of the leading actors in Hollywood, who has not just made a name for himself with his acting chops but also for his writing and directing talent. Over the years, Affleck has starred in and directed several acclaimed movies, which have gone on to rack millions of dollars in grossing. Naturally, the actor has earned quite a significant amount from the paychecks of these films, making millions upfront as well as backend profits.

The actor recently reprised his role in the Super Bowl Dunkin Donuts ad, and if the reports are true, the actor might have earned more from the advert than what he made from the best movie of his career.

Ben Affleck Recruits 'Succession's Jeremy Strong, Jay and Silent Bob for Epic New Dunkin' Super Bowl Commercial
Image
Ben Affleck’s latest Super Bowl commercial for Dunkin’ has officially dropped, and this time, the world's most unusual cinematic universe has just brought in some new faces, including his brother Casey Affleck, Succession’s Jeremy Strong, former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and Donnie Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block. And, if that wasn’t enough, Clerks duo Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith) even make a cameo in the extended version. This year’s ad, titled DunKings 2: The Movie, is a chaotic fusion of cinema and coffee. Originally airing as a 60-second spot during Super Bowl Lix, the full-length version goes way further in expanding on last year’s “DunKings” saga, taking the Afflecks and company to Java Jam, a fictional battle-of-the-bands-style competition where coffee brands fight for supremacy.

Dunkin’s Epic Super Bowl Ad Starring Ben Affleck, Jeremy Strong and Bill Belichick Is Actually a 7-Minute ‘DunKings 2: The Movie’ Short Film
Image
Dunkin’ dropped the latest installment from the “Dunkin’ Cinematic Universe” during the first commercial break of Sunday’s Super Bowl.

The epic and star studded 60-second clip — featuring original DunKing Ben Affleck back with a heavy Boston accent alongside new recruits like Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong with surprise cameos from legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick (alongside girlfriend Jordon Hudson), Donnie Wahlberg, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes — is actually just a taste from a much longer seven-minute short film titled DunKings 2: The Movie.

The action opens with the Oscar-winning brothers chatting it up outside Casey’s dressing-room door as the older Affleck tries to convince him to join Java Jam: Battle of the Coffee Brand Bands. (As you may recall, Ben debuted as the DunKing during last year’s Super Bowl in a spot that found him chasing pop superstardom alongside longtime friend and business partner Matt Damon, Tom Brady,...

He is approached by Jay and Silent Bob, with Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith in character. Affleck greets them by saying, "I thought they banned you from these things." Jay and Silent Bob then inquire about a "DunKings $6 meal deal" before then asking the actor for some autographs.

Kevin Smith And Jason Mewes Are Swinging Through The First State This Weekend And You Should Too
Image
Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are on the road once again. The two best friends have worked in movies and television shows for decades. Smith and Mewes, better known as their fictional stoner selves, Jay and Silent Bob, are the total opposite in real life.

For one thing, writer/director Kevin Smith, who portrays Silent Bob, is silent. When Smith is not behind the camera, he usually hosts one of his many podcasts or hits the road, telling stories and giving inspirational talks on filmmaking and following your dreams.

Jason Mewes, who has portrayed Jay the loudmouth Jay, is an accomplished actor, director, and father. His directorial debut movie Madness in the Method was good. I’m looking forward to seeing him behind the camera the next time. And if he ever needs any advice, he can ask one of his best friends.

Kevin Smith has always been an inspirational person to me.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Happened Thanks To This Kevin Smith Cameo
Image
Before the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, franchise films used to be made in a far more improvised fashion. Nowadays, we're used to studios and filmmakers having a several-year plan in place for an interlocking series of films and their respective franchises, and while this system can create some very rewarding emotional and narrative payoffs, it doesn't allow for the freedom of spontaneity as much. With this freedom, filmmakers were able to follow their muse to places they previously had never thought of going to, and it's not just characters or moments that were thought up on the fly; in some cases, an entire film came into existence based on a chance encounter.

That's exactly what happened to Kevin Smith during his primary years making films set in his View Askewniverse, named after the View Askew production company he created when he began making movies. Initially, these films were...

10 Movies That Are Almost Impossible To Find & Watch Today
Image
Several incredible films are challenging to watch nowadays. This can be for a variety of reasons, including issues with licensing or streaming. The best movies of all time rarely have issues such as these, but there are plenty of incredible movies that are still hard to find in the modern day.

Many of the films that are difficult to find, both on streaming or otherwise, are movies with great anti-heroes. Others, like Porgy and Bess, are great romance films. Regardless, the fact that these movies are so hard to find makes the effort worth it, as they are each an important part of movie history in their own right.

Kevin Smith Is Moonlighting as the World’s Priciest Mall Santa
Image
Kevin Smith is clearly having a good year. His latest directorial effort, The 4:30 Movie was well-received by both audiences and critics, he randomly showed up in The Simpsons’ season premiere and he regained the rights to Dogma from real-life shit demon Harvey Weinstein. Now he’s ending the year by playing Santa Claus — literally.

This past weekend, Smith took on the mantle of “Santa Bob,” posing for pictures with fans at his New Jersey comic book shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. He even had his costume designer whip up a custom Santa Bob suit.

Smith invited locals to indulge their Yuletide nostalgia by sitting on his lap and poising for a picture “just like we were at JCPenney’s or Sears back in the day — or the mall!”

It may be a tad unusual to see a celebrity taking on a mall Santa-type gig, especially considering...

Every Jay & Silent Bob Movie In Chronological Order
Image
Jay and Silent Bob movies have seen the iconic stoner duo playing supporting characters as well as leading their own movies, and despite the madcap absurdism, they do have something of a continuity and chronological order. Writer/director Kevin Smith became an indie sensation thanks to his micro-budget debut Clerks in 1994. That was also the movie that introduced the world to Jay, a foul-mouthed, obnoxious, weed-loving punk, and his mostly mute friend Silent Bob. The popularity of these characters would lead to them appearing in several other movies that followed.

Long before the MCU, Smith created his own cinematic universe with the View Askewniverse, with Jay and Silent Bob as the common thread through all the movies. The characters have appeared in cartoon series and even shows and movies outside of Smith's own cinematic universe, but the Jay and Silent Bob movies of the View Askewniverse show the characters' wild...

'Dogma 2' Is Finally Moving Forward, Confirms Kevin Smith: "I Found a Way In"
Image
Despite having made sequels to almost all of his films (with mixed results), Kevin Smith has finally confirmed that one of his best movies is getting a second installment. Dogma, saw the infamous Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) travel with a young woman, Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), the angel, Metatron (Alan Rickman), and the 13th disciple, Rufus (Chris Rock) to find God (Alanis Morissette) and prevent the demons Loki (Matt Damon) and Bartleby (Ben Affleck) from returning to heaven. Dogma has become a cult-classic like most of Smith's movies earning a devout following, and angering several religious organizations in the process.

Fans have been waiting 25 years for Kevin Smith to return for Dogma 2. Speaking at this year's Vulture Festival, Smith confirmed he's in development on the long awaited sequel. Kevin Smith Announces ‘Dogma’ Sequel, Expects Affleck and Damon to Return
Kevin Smith
Director Kevin Smith confirmed plans for a sequel to his 1999 religious comedy “Dogma” at the 2016 Vulture Festival. Original stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are expected to return in significant parts.

Smith directly addressed potential fan skepticism, noting that some may hesitate to revisit the cult favorite. “Some people will say, ‘Don’t f—ing touch it. “You’ll ruin it,” Smith warned. “And I’m here to tell you: I will.”

The project follows a meaningful step in which the film’s long-standing rights concerns were resolved. Previously owned by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the rights have been purchased by an undisclosed business. This accomplishment paves the way for a sequel, a 25th anniversary theatrical re-release, and a new 4K home media edition.

Smith expressed confidence in Affleck and Damon’s roles, promising more than a cameo. “The only way we get a ‘Dogma’ sequel made is if they’re there,...

Kevin Smith Reveals ‘Dogma 2’ Is in the Works, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon May Return

Kevin Smith is working on a sequel to Dogma 25 years after its original release, and he expects Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to make at least cameo appearances.

During his “Dogma Confessional” at Vulture Festival, Smith shared his excitement about the project, joking about potential backlash:

Some people will say, ‘Don’t mess with it—you’ll ruin it.’ And I probably will. But I’m thrilled because I’ve found a way to make it happen.”

Smith is confident that Affleck and Damon will return as fallen angels Bartleby and Loki. He humorously added that after helping them with Good Will Hunting in 1997, they owe him.

The panel marked Dogma’s 25th anniversary, reflecting on the original film’s story about two angels trying to find a loophole to get back into heaven. The 1999 movie starred Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, and Alanis Morissette,...

After 25 years, Kevin Smith is reconnecting with the man upstairs for the unholiest of sequels.

During his Dogma Confessional on Sunday at Vulture Festival, the View Askewniverse creator revealed that he’s working on a sequel to the 1999 film, and he expects Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to return for cameos at least.

Clerks III will be available to stream on Peacock starting Nov. 21. Released almost thirty years after Clerks, the third film once again centers around Randal and Dante, but this time life gets a tad more serious for the owners of the iconic Quick Stop. After suffering a heart attack, Randal and Dante finally pursue their dreams of making a film together, choosing to shoot it in black and white and setting it at the Quick Stop Convenience Store, mirroring the real-life production of the first film. The year was 1994 and a blossoming filmmaker from New Jersey was riding on a wing and a prayer when he released Clerks, a comedy film released completely in black-and-white. That director was Kevin Smith, who, whether he realized it or not, was starting a cinematic universe through this low-budget production. Starring Brian OHalloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Smith and more, the movie centered on O'Halloran's Dante Hicks, a convenience store clerk, and Andersons Randal Graves, a clerk at a video store, as well as the friends and eccentric personalities who popped into their shop's day in and day out.

Kevin Smith Releases Clerks Short Film Featuring Never-Before-Seen BTS Footage
Image
Kevin Smith has released a never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes video from his breakout film, Clerks. The 1994 comedy follows convenience store employee Dante (Brian OHalloran) and video store worker Randall (Jeff Anderson) as they deal with the minutia of day-to-day convenience store life, as well as coping with the likes of drug dealers Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). Clerks was a hit with critics and audiences alike, launching Smith's career as a filmmaker, and creating a body of work that has lasted for three decades.

The video, posted to Smiths YouTube channel, starts with a montage of the director slating a series of shots with the clapperboard, followed by a series of outtakes, bloopers, and unused takes. The footage also includes shots of the original ending, in which the convenience store is robbed, and Dante is shot and killed. Before it was commonplace in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the idea of a shared universe across movies was a delight for audiences. It was exciting that the characters in Chasing Amy, Clerks, and Mallrats all seemed to know each other, in part through Jay and Silent Bob. Michael Keaton reprising his role as Ray Nicolette from Jackie Brown in Stephen Soderbergh's Out of Sight was a fun surprise for people who read the Elmore Leonard novels which inspired the two movies.
