If we're to believe a certain delightfully deceptive Christopher Nolan film, the third act of any magic show is always the most shocking -- which should have us all excited for the imminent release of Lionsgate's "Now You See Me: Now You Don't." The third entry in the high-grossing "Now You See Me" series (which began in 2013 and continued with a sequel in 2016), the 2025 film is set to return viewers to this arrestingly glamorous world of vigilante illusionists.
For the uninitiated, the series follows the escapades of the Four Horsemen, a group of stage magicians who once managed to "magically" transport millions of stolen dollars from a secure bank vault in Paris to their audience in Las Vegas. They then began using their unique skills of misdirection, deception, manipulation, and stagecraft to execute elaborate heists against the wealthy for the benefit of common people.

Exclusive: Following news that a Social Network sequel may finally be moving forward, Aaron Sorkin may already have his sights set on the two rising stars to lead the follow-up to his Oscar-winning movie. While various elements are still being worked out, including a budget, sources say that Sorkin’s top choices to star in The Social Network Part II are Oscar winner Mikey Madison and Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White.
Insiders stress that no formal offers have been given to either actor, but it’s clear these are his picks to star in the film once those hurdles are overcome. Sony Pictures, who is distributing the film, had no comment.
Deadline first reported in June that Sorkin would direct and pen a sequel after years of figuring out what angle he wanted to pursue for this next chapter in telling the Facebook story. The new film project is in development with Todd Black,...

Aaron Sorkin is set to write and direct a follow-up to his hit film The Social Network, according to sources who spoke with Deadline. The new project, called The Social Network Part II, won’t be a direct sequel but will continue the story in a fresh way.
It’s inspired by the Wall Street Journal’s explosive series of articles known as The Facebook Files, which exposed problems inside Facebook and the impact the platform has had on society.
Sony Pictures is behind the film, with producers Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin himself, and Stuart Besser involved in the project. Sorkin’s script explores the issues raised by The Facebook Files, focusing on how Facebook has affected teens, politics, violence, and even events beyond the United States.

Nearly 15 years after its critically acclaimed debut, the controversial film chronicling the birth and evolution of Facebook clicks up a long-awaited sequel. The Social Network Part II is on its way at Sony Pictures, though it won't see David Fincher return to the director's chair.
According to Deadline, The Social Network sequel is in development at Sony, with the original movie's screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, directing the feature-length project, in addition to penning its script. Along with the film featuring a new director, Part II also boasts a different premise from the original. Aaron Sorkin has set a sequel to his Oscar-winning 2010 film The Social Network. According to Deadline, while the movie is titled The Social Network Part II, it will focus more on the consequences of Facebook becoming the largest social media platform.
Sorkin’s script will be based on The Wall Street Journal investigation series, The Facebook Files, which exposed the company’s awareness of the negative impacts of its platform, including the spread of misinformation and its contribution to real-world harm.
He is also set to direct the film, which will be produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin, and Stuart Besser.
Based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires, the original film was written by Sorkin and directed by David Fincher. It garnered eight Oscar nominations and won three awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin.

A sequel to David Fincher's critically acclaimed 2010 film "The Social Network" is coming, but I regret to inform you that there's one huge problem already.
According to an exclusive report in Deadline, Aaron Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for the first film's script, is set to direct a movie that — as of this writing — is simply called "The Social Network II." Journalist Justin Kroll noted that the movie isn't a direct sequel but "rather a follow-up to the original movie that explored the origins of what would become the world's biggest social media platform."
Sure, the fracas surrounding Facebook and its parent company Meta — all helmed by Mark Zuckerberg, who was played smugly and perfectly by Jesse Eisenberg in the original film — is pretty interesting, but because Sorkin is set to direct, Fincher won't be in the director's...

Aaron Sorkin is not finished telling the Facebook story. The Academy Award winner is developing “The Social Network Part II” at Sony Pictures.
Sorkin has written a screenplay and is set to direct the follow-up to the 2010 film “The Social Network,” helmed by David Fincher, which chronicled the creation and early days of Facebook, which has grown to become the world’s largest social media platform. Sorkin’s sequel is based on the Wall Street Journal’s “The Facebook Files,” a series of articles authored by Jeff Horowitz and published in October 2021, which further exposed the inner workings of the company.
Jesse Eisenberg starred as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network,” but casting has yet to be announced for the sequel. Part 2 is in development with Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser producing.

Aaron Sorkin is plotting a return to Facebook. The screenwriter behind The Social Network has written a sequel script he intends to direct as a feature for Sony, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The first Social Network movie was based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires, while the sequel is inspired by a series of articles Jeff Horwitz wrote for The Wall Street Journal known as The Facebook Files, which were published in October 2021 and explored the harms caused by the social network. (WSJ is not involved in the movie.)
Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser are producing the sequel.
Jesse Eisenberg earned an Oscar nomination in a career-making role for The Social Network, in which he played Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. It is unclear if he will reprise the role for the sequel, though it’s hard to imagine someone else stepping into Zuckerberg’s Adidas sandals.

Jesse Eisenberg has put himself back in the Oscars race with A Real Pain, a film he wrote, directed, and acted in. The film has received two nominations, including Best Screenplay for Eisenberg and Best Supporting Actor for Kieran Culkin. Eisenberg’s earlier stint at the Oscars was when he went up against and lost narrowly to Colin Firth at the Academy Awards in 2011.
At the time, Eisenberg was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s The Social Network. Aaron Sorkin wrote a screenplay for the film, that was adapted from Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal.

Some of the best films of the 2010s explored new themes that defined a tumultuous decade: the rise of social media and its effect on how people interacted with one another, the dominance of the tech billionaire and the lengthening of the wealth gap as old money was replaced with new money, and the outcry of multiple generations of toxic men who decided that upsetting the established order was worth the chaos that followed.
By far one of the best examples of a film that tackled these themes and paved the way for movies in the rest of the decade was The Social Network, written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher. This masterpiece of biographic filmmaking captures so many of the themes that would come to define the next decade of fiction, creating a powerful work of art that has stood the test of time. Andrew Garfield is open to reprising his role as Brazilian billionaire and entrepreneur Eduardo Saverin in a sequel to The Social Network. However, the actor feels that the character might not have a place in the story.
"I think anything that [writer] Aaron [Sorkin] does is going to be really, really powerful and interesting, and if he's feeling drawn to a subject, you know it's got some juice in it. I'd be excited [about a sequel]," Garfield said when asked how he felt about The Social Network 2 during an appearance on Esquire's Explain This Video Series. The actor went on to explain why he remains doubtful about his involvement. "I don't imagine I'd be part of it because I think Eduardo is just living off his billions in Singapore," he said.

Shares of GameStop and AMC Entertainment exploded Monday, up close to 80% and 50%, respectively, as Roaring Kitty, aka Keith Gill, the trader and Reddit celebrity who sparked the so-called meme stock revolution on Wall Street starting in early 2021, posted on X (formerly Twitter) for the first time in almost three years.

It looks like another Godzilla x Kong movie will have to wait.
Adam Wingard, who directed the last two of the hit Legendary MonsterVerse movies, has lined up a new feature project that will go before any new creature feature.
A24, the one-time scrappy indie that is rapidly scaling up, came out on top of an auction to pick up Onslaught, an action thriller that reteams Wingard with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two made the cult hits You’re Next and The Guest.
Wingard and Barrett are writing the project with Wingard on board to direct. It is said to have a scope more in line with his early movies, which were all original creations. Details for Onslaught are being kept behind the barricades, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller that will shoot this fall.

What started as a speculative drama about why Carlsen quit or how Niemann won in the first place quickly spiraled into accusations of cheating, an unsuccessful legal battle, and what’s considered to be the biggest scandal in chess history. Now, that story is receiving the film treatment at A24.
Emma Stone will produce the cheating scandal film alongside Dave McCary, her husband and production partner.

It looks like Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are reuniting, but it’s not for “The Curse” Season 2. THR reports that the pair of actors are in talks to reteam for a new A24 project: “Checkmate,” based on a book proposal by “The Social Network” and “Dumb Money” writer Ben Mezrich.

After more than proving his directing mettle with Nathan For You and The Rehearsal, Nathan Fielder entered another echelon with The Curse, helming seven episodes (including the mind-bending finale). Now, the comedian, actor, writer, and director has notched another step in his filmmaking ascendancy with the announcement of his feature directorial debut.
THR reports he’ll reteam with The Curse star and producer Emma Stone and her company Fruit Tree for Checkmate, which A24 has picked up. With Fielder on board to direct and Stone on as producer, the film is an adaptation from a forthcoming book by Ben Mezrich, whose works have been adapted into The Social Network and Dumb Money.

Emma Stone knows to stick with what is working as she follows up her 2023 projects (which have garnered significant attention) with more from the same collaborators. Stone recently won an Academy Award for her performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things. Lanthimos would also already release a trailer for his next film, Kinds of Kindness, earlier this year and Stone is among the principal cast. Other than Poor Things, last year, Stone would star in a limited series for Showtime with comedic actor Nathan Fielder in a surreal dark comedy called The Curse, which would also feature a collaboration with Benny Safdie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stone will also be reuniting with Fielder for another project with A24. The indie studio that features a bevy of off-beat films has recently had its biggest title with Civil War, and the company played its moves aggressively to beat out bigger studios for Checkmate.

Following the success of The Curse, Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are again teaming with A24 to produce Checkmate, a movie based on the chess world’s biggest scandal.
Chess can be absorbing subject material for drama, whether it’s a glossy period piece such as Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, or more left-field takes like 2013’s Computer Chess. Perhaps chess movies are like Robin Hood projects: there are always several in development in Hollywood and it becomes a strategic game of, well… erm, chess to see who can put one together first.
The latest chess project is being produced by Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder, and A24 have reportedly spent a seven-figure sum to secure the rights to it. Why the buzz? Well, the film will be based on the biggest scandal the chess world has seen in recent years, dramatising the events of the ‘controversial 2022 head-to-head match between Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen,...

A24 surprised Hollywood by outbidding major studios for a 12-page book outline, spending over half a million per page. Nathan Fielder is set to direct Checkmate, a film about two chess grandmasters, produced by Emma Stone and Dave McCary. Ben Mezrich, known for writing books about money and the people who make it, is behind the pricey outline for Checkmate. His work has been adapted into the movies Dumb Money and The Social Network.

Following the success of “The Curse,” Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder and A24 are teaming up again to take on the cutthroat world of chess.
The studio has won the rights to the hot feature package “Checkmate,” based on a book proposal by author Ben Mezrich, whose works were adapted into “The Social Network” and “Dumb Money.”
The story centers on what has been described as the “biggest scandal in the history of chess,” following the controversial 2022 head-to-head match between Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen, then world champion, and Hans Niemann, during which the latter was accused of cheating.
After a competitive situation in which multiple studios and streamers showed interest in the project, A24 nabbed the rights thanks to a reported seven-figure offer. The deals are still in the works, but Fielder is currently attached to direct, with Stone on board to produce with her husband and partner Dave McCary under their Fruit Tree banner.

Fielder is attached to direct, while Stone will produce along with her husband and partner Dave McCary via the duo’s Fruit Tree banner. It also reunites the pair with A24, which backed The Curse. Director Craig Gillespie's Dumb Money, which boasts a star-studded cast that includes Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Pete Davidson, is based on the book The Antisocial Network by renowned chronicler of capitalism Ben Mezrich. Mezrich also wrote the book about Facebook that was adapted into the movie The Social Network. Dumb Money tells the story of the 2021 financial event known as "the GameStop short squeeze." It's possible to remember the chaos surrounding the GameStop short squeeze without knowing much about what it actually was. That's because it's a story about two subjects complicated financial instruments and message board drama that aren't common knowledge for most people.

The 2010 Sorkin movie, which was directed by David Fincher and based on the 2009 Ben Mezrich book The Accidental Billionaires, was nominated for eight Oscars, winning five. It followed Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) from his college years through the rise of Facebook, as well as his contentious relationship with his business partner Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield). In probably one of the quickest turnarounds in a real-life event adaptation, Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money was released in 2023 – barely two and a half years after the almost-unbelievable affair it was based on came to an end. The film itself is an adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s The Antisocial Network. It retells the GameStop bidding war – which saw an extraordinary price boost of the gaming and electronics company’s stock – driven forward by a mass of people trying to defy the financial system. Amidst the rage of a global pandemic, a shift in retail dynamics, and an unprecedented surge in virtual communication, the conflict was a defining financial moment in America.

“I like the stock.”
If only the world of high finance could accept things as simply as that.
As we learned in 2021, the so-called masters of the universe had written off GameStop, the venerable supply of used video games and assorted tech gear. With incredible transparency, he shared his spreadsheets and showed his faith by buying up shares, which encouraged others to follow suit.
The run-up of the stock, fueled by the disruptor app Robinhood, spooked Wall Street and led to at least one capitol group crumbling with hubris.

I've interviewed a lot of people this year for /Film, but none better reflected the energy of the film they wrote than Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the screenwriters of "Dumb Money." Their enthusiasm and rapid-fire speech patterns, in which they frequently were so excited that they'd finish each other's sentences, was infectious to listen to, and it perfectly aligned with the way their script (and director Craig Gillespie and his editors) unspooled the chaos of the GameStop stock story for the big screen. It also indicated a deep level of comfort these two have with each other as co-workers: Through collaborating together for over ten years, first as investigative journalists and then as screenwriters, they've formed the type of mind-meld that sounds familiar if you've ever read about how the Coen Brothers make decisions on set. There's a shorthand on display, and they each possess the same exact...

The Craig Gillespie directorial venture Dumb Money is a prime example of how a movie about characters involved in technical stuff should be made. Based on the book The Antisocial Network by Ben Mezrich, the 2023 film is the story of a few retail investors who began to buy stocks of a video game store called GameStop and how that impacted the billion-dollar hedge fund managers who made their money primarily through ‘short selling’. The performances are great, and the pacing, the cinematography, and the overall setting surely remind one of David Fincher’s The Social Network. Funny that this film is based on a book with almost the same name! The casting is spot on, and with a great background score, the movie creates an atmosphere where this big fish vs. little fish fight really becomes palpable, even though the jargon might go over our heads.

Director Craig Gillespie assembled an impressive ensemble cast for Dumb Money, featuring stars like Seth Rogen and Paul Dano, to draw in audiences and create a diverse range of characters. The wide breadth of performers in Dumb Money's cast allowed for some of them to play against type, such as Rogen's unlikable character and Dano's contrasting role after his haunting turn in The Batman. The movie's positive reviews praised the entertaining cast and expansive story, showcasing the payoff of Gillespie's efforts in building Dumb Money's ensemble.

The Social Network took creative liberties in portraying the creation of Facebook, including Mark Zuckerberg's motivation for creating the website. Eduardo Saverin's role in the creation of Facebook was different than how it was portrayed in the film. He was not the victim and his intentions were mischaracterized. Sean Parker's involvement in creating Facebook was more beneficial than harmful, contrary to how the film depicted him as an antagonist. Parker's actions were, mostly, for the benefit of the company.
David Fincher’s The Social Network chronicles the creation of Facebook and the many troubles between its creators and investors, and while it got many things right, it also took a couple of creative liberties. Two years after directing the fantasy drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, David Fincher returned with a different type of drama film with The Social Network, based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich.

The Social Network 2 is hindered by Facebook's last 13 years, which have seen the platform facing controversies and becoming less popular. David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin have expressed interest in making a second film, but the details of a potential follow-up have not been revealed. Mark Zuckerberg's controversies and public image, as well as the changing landscape of social media, pose obstacles to creating a successful sequel.
The Social Network 2 has a lot of potential, but after Facebook's last 13 years, it might be impossible to make the sequel. Based on The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, The Social Network was released in 2010 and directed by David Fincher, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aaron Sorkin. The film chronicled Mark Zuckerberg's experience creating Facebook, revealing some of the challenges he faced.
The Social Network was one of the biggest movies of 2010, premiering just four years after Facebook became available to the public.

Some movies deal with real-life situations that are meant to intrigue and fascinate. Smaller stories, or stories that have never had the type of spotlight that Hollywood thought they deserved. But sometimes (wait for it) Hollywood sensationalizes or changes the plot to fit their narrative.
One of these movies was the 2008 movie 21—a film based on a book based on a sensational story. However, the film made some poor casting choices, and since its release, it has garnered more attention for its faults than for its triumphs.
21 and Bringing Down the House
The film 21 was based on a book by Ben Mezrich called Bringing Down the House. It tells the (semi) true story of an MIT student named Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) who joins the blackjack team led by Professor Mickey Rosa (Kevin Spacey). The team has such a high level of intelligence and skill that they begin making regular trips to Las Vegas.
