Though the previous iteration Farewell to the Flesh had made nearly $14 million on a rumored $6 million budget, the reviews weren’t great, and the powers that be decided the franchise was no longer sticky nor sweet enough for the big screen. Candyman was banished to the direct-to-video bin with a razor-thin budget. The result would be a movie that Tony Todd was disappointed with and Clive Barker chose not to put his name on; A movie that would bury the Candyman franchise for the next quarter century. This is what happened to Candyman 3: Day of the Dead.

After the events of Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, series creator and legend Clive Barker seemed ready to jump back into the franchise.

Actor Tony Todd, renowned for his iconic role in the Candyman horror films, has passed away at the age of 69.

Over his 40-year career, Todd portrayed the ghostly character of Candyman in the horror series. Candyman, known for having a hook for a hand, could be summoned by saying his name five times in front of a mirror. Todd originated the role in the first film released in 1992 and continued to play Candyman in sequels released in 1995 and 1999. He reprised his role in 2021 for a fourth film that serves as a direct sequel to the original.

Todd took on the iconic role of Daniel Robitaille, better known as Candyman—a tragic figure shrouded in mystery and pain. As a tortured ghost adorned with swarming bees, Candyman embodies the legacy of an African American artist and son of a slave, whose life was brutally cut short because of his forbidden love for a white woman.

Tony Todd, an American actor known for leading the “Candyman” horror franchise as its eponymous hook-wielding ghost, died Wednesday at his home in Marina Del Rey, Calif. He was 69.

Todd’s death was confirmed by a representative for the actor. A cause of death was not disclosed.

A reliable presence in genre fare across four decades, Todd’s series of credits include iconic titles such as Alex Proyas’ comic book adaptation “The Crow,” Michael Bay’s Alcatraz actioner “The Rock” and the elaborate killing-set-piece series “Final Destination.” One of his earliest film performances came in his early thirties in Oliver Stone’s Oscar-winning war epic “Platoon.” On “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Todd donned alien make-up to play Kurn, a Commander in the Klingon Defense Force and the brother of Worf (played by series regular Michael Dorn).

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a drama series based on the comic book “El Gato Negro” by Richard Dominguez, Variety has learned.

The series, currently titled “El Gato,” will be shot in both English and Spanish. Diego Boneta is attached to star, with Eric Carrasco adapting the comic book for the screen.

“Sharing ‘El Gato’ with audiences around the world is a dream come true,” says Boneta. “This has been a passion of mine since I started Three Amigos. Eric Carrasco and the entire team have built a character and universe that honors the super hero genre and still feels completely epic and original. It is an absolute honor to play Frank and produce this with my amazing partners at Amazon, MGM, and all other producers on this epic story. Get ready for a wild ride.”

"Candyman" began its life in 1985 as a short story called "The Forbidden," originally published in Clive Barker's "Books of Blood, Vol. 5" (called "In the Flesh" in the United States). "The Forbidden" was set in Barker's hometown of Liverpool, specifically at a run-down building called the Spector Street estate, where a grad student named Helen went to photograph images of graffiti and poverty. While there, she encountered a mysterious monster the Candyman, a creature she assumed was merely an urban myth. The Candyman is covered in bees and sports a hook for a hand. Its origins are unknown. 

In 1992, filmmaker Bernard Rose adapted "The Forbidden" into the feature film "Candyman," one of the more celebrated horror films of its decade. Helen was played by Virginia Madsen, and the mysterious Candyman was played by a menacing Tony Todd. Rose transposed the location from Liverpool to the Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago.

A long, long time ago, in a state deep in the woods, a bunch of people were eaten by cannibal hillbillies in a film called Wrong Turn. Soon, the locals to where the film was taking place got very angry about the depiction of their fellow mountain and wood residents, which they thought gave them a bad name. Horror fans responded by seeing the film anyways, making it a minor hit. The first film had a budget of $12.6 million and made $28.7 million at the box office. While this may lead to a sequel at times, it was not a given. Fast forward to 4 years later and we are gifted with the first of a long series of sequels.

Netflix has dropped its first teaser trailer for “Griselda,” a new limited series starring Sofia Vergara in her first dramatic role. The Emmy nominee also serves as an executive producer alongside “Narcos” and “Narcos: Mexico” creators Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz (who also directs all six episodes). “Griselda” will debut globally on Netflix on January 25, 2024. We’re seeing the first footage of Sofia Vergara as real-life drug queenpin Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s upcoming limited series, Griselda, which is set to premiere January 25, 2024.

Created by Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda and Carlo Bernard, the six-episode series chronicles the life of Colombian-born Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. In 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as “the Godmother.”

Blanco burst onto the pop culture scene after her exploits were highlighted in the 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys and its sequel two years later from Billy Corben. She was portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones in the Lifetime biopic Cocaine Godmother in 2018.

Per our sister site Deadline, the project — one of the first born of a first-look deal Levi sealed when he was cast on Heroes Reborn — follows a CIA operative who endeavors to protect his family from “an unimaginable secret.”

Levi will executive-produce Unidentified alongside Smallville vets Turi Meyer and Al Septein, who will serve as showrunners. Sean Finegan (Ethan Hawke’s Getaway) will pen the pilot.

An online petition has been launched calling on the DGA to expel Randall Miller, Jay Sedrish and Hillary Schwartz from the union’s ranks. All three were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in March in connection with the death of camera assistant Sarah Jones last year on the set of Midnight Rider.

Miller, the film’s director, is serving a two-year jail sentence, and the conditions of his plea bargain state he can’t work as a director for 10 years. Schwartz, the film’s assistant director, was sentenced to 10 years’ probation, during which time she can’t work as a director or assistant director. Sedrish, the film’s executive producer and unit production manager, also got 10 years’ probation and can’t work as a director or an assistant director — although he can work as a Upm.

After this week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries," I'm clamoring for an Originals-only spin-off. The family dynamic between Klaus and his siblings is so wonderful, I'd happily watch an hour-long family dinner every week. The CW won't be keeping "Remodeled" around for long anyway, right? Open real estate!

In all seriousness, "Bringing Out the Dead" was one of the series' most poignant and exciting episodes, striking that elusive balance between supernatural action and emotional character development. It introduced two new Original characters and provided a surprisingly touching swan song for a character we weren't entirely crazy about.

Most significantly, though, it marked a turning point for the core love triangle of the show, thanks to an unlikely voice of reason: Klaus. Cue up your DVRs, kids. Let's get into it.

For some bizarre reason The CW is preempting the upcoming week's episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Secret Circle" for a showing of The Covenant from 2006, but they'll be back in full force on February 2nd with their 13th episodes of the season. It's hard to believe that after this week ends, we'll already be halfway through this season of TV shows on The CW, but from the synopses the network just sent over for the 13th episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" ("Bringing Out the Dead"), "The Secret Circle" ("Medallion"), and "Supernatural" ("The Slice Girls"), it sounds like we still have a Lot to look forward to. Another week, another great episode. This week it’s all about the hybrids.

So as you would expect Elena is still not giving up on finding Stefan, especially after the silent phone call from Stefan doing his ‘I’m so tortured inside’ thing last episode, which has lead Elena to believe that he can still be saved. Again glossing over the fact that he’s been away for months murdering innocent people and ripping them to pieces. Damon he’s not so interested in saving Stefan, I mean he did just kill his ‘girlfriend’ Andie right in front of him. So he’s feeling less in than brotherly mood and is burning everything he collected on Stefan while tracking him. Telling Elena that Stefan’s gone and he doesn’t mean ‘geographically’.

Talking of Stefan, he and Klaus are tracking through the woods carrying a lifeless Ray.

Last week's debut pairing of "The Vampire Diaries" with "The Secret Circle" gave The CW some of its best ratings ever, and that trend is likely to continue tomorrow. To help whet everyone's appetites for both shows, the network has released preview videos featuring Tvd executive producer Julie Plec introducing "The Hybrid" and Tsc co-executive producers Andrew Miller and Kevin Williamson promising you're about to see powers that are raging out of control in "Bound".

Last night saw the return of The CW's most popular show, "The Vampire Diaries" (which was every bit as good as we were hoping), along with the series premiere of "The Secret Circle" (the jury's still out on this one, but it does show promise, especially thanks to the adult characters Ethan and Charles); and as expected, they made a magical pair ratings-wise for the network. Just one episode remains of this season of "The Vampire Diaries", and considering the title is "As I Lay Dying", we're pretty sure it's going to be a doozy. While we've been promised resolution of this season's story arc, we're also confident that exec producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec will be leaving us with a cliffhanger. Let's see if the finale's previews shed any light on things.

Wow! TV Line has unleashed a new TV teaser spot for The CW's Smallville and it rocks! Michael Rosenbaum returns in the series finlae as Clarks arch nemesis Lex Luthor for the ultimate 2-hour showdown. It was hard for the producers to bring back Rosenbaum who left the show back in 2008 but then in February he gave in and said he had to do this for the fans. Who will die? We’ve expected a death for some time now on The Vampire Diaries. And, it looks like the season 2 finale will bring us just that. But, will it be a major character or one of our human friends who know too much? Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) have rekindled their old war of the hearts over Elena (Nina Dobrev). So, if Elena dies and becomes a vampire we may finally see some Delena action. Controlling one’s emotions when you first turn is usually impossible. So, Elena would probably be rearing to jump Damon’s bones.

The CW has just revealed the synopsis to Tvd Season 2 Finale, “As I Lay Dying.” There’s a lot of ‘hinting’ going on. We’ve speculated for a while now that Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) may be on the way out. If you read the synopsis, it leads more and more in that direction.
