‘Every Time I Die’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Drew Fonteiro, Marc Menchaca, Melissa Macedo, Michelle Macedo, Tyler Dash White | Written by Gal Katzir, Robi Michael | Directed by Robi Michael

The debut feature of co-writer/director Robi Michael takes an old formula – a hero who has amnesia and is trapped in a situation that’s spiralling out of control – and spins a whole new genre film from it. One that uses the tropes of horror and sci-fi to tell a remarkably poignant and human story about love, loss and family…

Every Time I Die tells the story of Sam (Drew Fonteiro), a paramedic show suffers from blackouts, headaches and nightmares – mostly about the death of his sister years ago. Sam is somthing of a unhapy individual, seemingly coasting through life pinning over Mia (Melissa Macedo), a woman with whom he had an illicit affair, and ignoring his obvious medical issues. Trying to cheer Sam up, his paramedic partner...

Great Trailer For a Fascinating and Unique Mystery Horror Thriller Called Every Time I Die
I’ve got a trailer here for an intriguing mystery horror film called Every Time I Die. It tells a unique and clever ghost story that I really dig and I think horror fans will as well. Before you watch the trailer, here’s a description of the story:

When Sam (Drew Fonteiro) is murdered in a remote lake, his consciousness begins to travel through the bodies of his friends in an effort to protect them from his killer. This dark passage leads him on a greater journey - discovering his own true identity.

I love that the story and troubles of this murdered young man really begin after he’s already dead and that the story is all told from his perspective as he tries to stop the killer from killing again.

The movie was helmed by first-time director Robi Michael and it also stars Marc Menchaca, Lia Johnson,...

First Trailer for Clever, Flipped Ghost Story Thriller 'Every Time I Die'
"Once again: who are you?" MiLa Media and Invisible Pictures have debuted the first trailer for a creative new horror thriller titled Every Time I Die, from director Robi Michael making his feature debut. The film is a twisted time loop thriller, about a disturbed young man with a mysterious past whose tragic death is just the beginning of his troubles. The big flip with this is that it's told from the perspective of guy who's dead trying to stop his killer from striking again. Drew Fonteiro stars, with a cast including Marc Menchaca, Lia Johnson, Michelle Macedo, and Melissa Macedo. This looks really cool, there's something strange but very compelling about it. And there's definitely a Memento vibe going on. This trailer is worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Robi Michael's Every Time I Die, direct from YouTube: When Sam (Drew Fonteiro) is murdered in a remote lake,...

2011 Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival: Official Lineup
San Diego’s annual Comic-Con is mostly known for its major media spectacles, displays and panel discussions by major mainstream Hollywood studios and distributors. Lesser known is the Independent Film Festival that is hosted by and runs concurrently with the larger convention on July 21-24.

The film festival runs in a large meeting room at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and Marina, located right next door to the convention center. Each day kicks off with a “Film School” panel discussion at 10:00 a.m., then packs the late morning, all afternoon and night with independent films from all over the world.

Screenings are blocked by genre, such as Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Horror, Animation and Documentary. There’s also an awards presentation on the 24th, with repeat screenings of the winning films.

One of the highlights of this year’s Cci-iff is the screening of Waylon Bacon‘s fantastic and disturbing short film Help Wanted,...

Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival Announces 2011 Schedule
What with all the panels and screenings and more that take place during the San Diego Comic-Con, one of the best kept secrets about the show is its International Independent Film Festival (Cci-iff). The lineup for this year's event is now available, and we have for you both the horror/suspense and science fiction/fantasy schedules.

All screenings and panels for the Cci-iff will be held in the Marriott Marquis and Marina, right next door to the Convention Center (next to the Hall A end). Included in this year's schedule is the return of the popular "Comic-Con Film School" panels on all four days, along with an assortment of other film-oriented panel discussions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. A special opening night event, the "Cci-iff Meet and Greet" party, will be held on Thursday, July 21, in the foyer outside the Festival room at the Marriott. This event is open to the filmmakers,...

Yellow Plastic Raygun Wins Best Experimental Film At Downtown L.A. Fest
The short film Yellow Plastic Raygun directed by Alessandro Cima, which was featured on Bad Lit just a few weeks ago, has won the Best Experimental film award at the Downtown Film Fest Los Angeles that ran Sept. 8-12.

I believe this was the second year for the festival, which was created by the former organizers of the defunct Silver Lake Film Festival in an effort to help promote the formerly neglected, but now popular downtown neighborhood of L.A.

Yellow Plastic Raygun is a mix of found and original footage that creates a retro-futuristic tale of society crumbling. The film also ends with creative shots of the World Trade Center that Cima filmed himself several years ago prior to 9/11. You can watch the film on Bad Lit here.

Another winner of the Dffla include the Matt Harlock and Bill Thomas’ documentary American: The Bill Hicks Story, which also screened Australia twice recently,...
