Director Renny Harlin shot an entire trilogy of Strangers movies at the same time, and while there was a point when it looked like Lionsgate might be releasing all three of the movies within 2024, that idea has clearly been pushed aside. The Strangers: Chapter 1 (read our review Here) reached theatres back in May, and a release date still hasn’t been announced for The Strangers: Chapter 2. It’s coming soon, though… at least that’s what the newly unveiled teaser trailer promises. You can watch the teaser in the embed above.
Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) has the lead role in this trilogy and is joined in the cast of the films by Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small), Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy), and Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Sixteen years after Bryan Bertino's The Strangers shocked moviegoers, Lionsgate is reintroducing moviegoers to Dollface, Pin-Up Girl, and Scarecrow in The Strangers – Chapter 1, the first film in a new trilogy that brings the movie's masked murderers back to the big screen as they stalk a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) spending the night at a secluded cabin in the woods. Ahead of the film's world premiere in Los Angeles last week, Daily Dead had the chance to talk with lead actors Madelaine Petsch (who is also one of the film's executive producers) and Froy Gutierrez about what attracted them to playing their respective characters, developing a realistic chemistry in a short amount of time, and working with legendary director Renny Harlin.

Lionsgate is planning a May 17th theatrical release for the horror film The Strangers: Chapter 1, and this past weekend they continued their viral marketing approach to promoting the movie. When the South by Southwest festivals were held in Austin, Texas last month, the Strangers were spotted around the city. When the music and arts festival Coachella was going on in Indio, California, the Strangers showed up there, too. Over the weekend, the Stagecoach Festival – which is described as “country music’s biggest party” was also held in Indio… and the Strangers crashed that party as well. A video of the Strangers at Stagecoach can be seen in the embed above, and images of their time at the festival can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Lionsgate is planning a May 17th theatrical release for the horror film The Strangers: Chapter 1, and with that date just three weeks away the Motion Picture Association ratings board has announced that they’ve given the film an R rating for “horror violence, language and brief drug use.” That puts it pretty much in line with the ratings to the previous two movies in the Strangers franchise. Released in 2008, The Strangers was rated R for violence/terror and language. The Strangers: Prey at Night followed in 2018 and was rated R for horror violence and terror throughout, and for language.

Lionsgate is planning a May 17th theatrical release for the horror film The Strangers: Chapter 1, and with that date just a month and a half away, they have unveiled a new promo, along with a trio of character posters. The promo is embedded above and is meant to look like security camera footage, with the stranger known as Pin-Up Girl (who doesn’t seem to be able to see through her mask very well) approaching someone’s door. A young couple fight for their lives in the official trailer for Lionsgate’s The Strangers – Chapter 1. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turns into a battle with psycho killers in the prequel to 2008’s The Strangers.

Nearly 16 years after Bryan Bertino's The Strangers shocked cinemas (moments from that movie still linger in my mind rent-free), it's time to "witness how the strangers became the strangers" in the trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 1 ahead of its May 17th theatrical release via Lionsgate.
Directed by Renny Harlin from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen & Alan Freedland and a story by Bryan Bertino (and based on The Strangers written by Bryan Bertino), The Strangers: Chapter 1 stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guitierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath. What do you do when they come for you? Beloved horror franchise “The Strangers” is getting a revamp, courtesy of prequel “The Strangers: Chapter 1” starring “Riverdale” alum Madelaine Petsch. Two more sequels are due later this year, all from “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger” director Renny Harlin.
In this first film, Petsch stars as a young woman who is trying to start a new life with her fiancé. Yet, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, the couple become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath co-star.
Sure, it may sound like a run-of-the-mill slasher, but “The Strangers” franchise has a haunting allure, thanks to its creation by filmmaker Bryan Bertino. The director has a “story by” credit for “Chapter 1,” which is helmed by Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ Trailer Looks Like a Direct Remake of the 2008 Home Invasion Horror Movie
The first installment in a brand new reboot trilogy from Lionsgate and director Renny Harlin, The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be available in theaters nationwide on May 17, 2024.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 is said to be something of a remake of the original 2008 movie, while its sequels – Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 – will blaze a new path from there.
Our hope is that the two subsequent movies will allow Renny Harlin to get crazy and inject a little more of his personal filmmaking style into the proceedings, because The Strangers: Chapter 1 indeed does look to be a pretty straight up remake of Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion classic. This first trailer essentially goes through all the familiar beats, ending with a new/lesser version of the most iconic line from Bertino’s movie. “Because you were home” has been replaced with “Because you’re here,” which doesn’t quite have the same punch to it.

Yesterday, director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) and producer Courtney Solomon were on a panel at New York Comic Con to discuss their upcoming trilogy of movies inspired by the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here) – and you can find out some of the details that were revealed during that panel at This Link. Lionsgate will be releasing these Strangers movies – which are said to be titled The Strangers: Chapter 1, The Strangers: Chapter 2, and The Strangers: Chapter 3 – to theatres throughout 2024… and coinciding with the panel, they have also released a clip from The Strangers: Chapter 1, along with a couple posters! JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols was also able to sit down for an interview with Harlin before the panel began, so we have that video embedded above. Alison Brie stars as a washed up journalist who travels to Colombia for a high-profile interview with a local dictator. She hires a private security guard, played by John Cena, to protect her while abroad; yet of course, things go horribly wrong and the duo are on the run.
The official synopsis reads: An ex special forces operative stuck in a dead-end desk job (Cena) reluctantly takes on a gig to provide private security for a struggling journalist (Brie) as she interviews a ruthless — but impeccably dressed — dictator (Juan Pablo Raba). When a military coup breaks out just as she’s about to get the scoop of a lifetime, the unlikely trio must figure out how to survive the jungle, the assassins, and each other in order to make it out alive.
Alice Eve and Christian Slater also star.

Director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) has already wrapped production on not only a remake of the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here), but an entire remake trilogy. Well, the official announcement referred to this as a remake project, anyway. But that might not actually be the case. During a recent interview with CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman, cast member Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) said the trilogy is set “in the same universe” as The Strangers and its follow-up The Strangers: Prey at Night. Which leaves fans to wonder if this is actually a sequel trilogy…
The new Strangers trilogy was filmed in Slovakia. Horvath was joined in the cast by Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small), and Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy). The first entry in the trilogy centers on Petsch...

Sean Bean and Miranda Richardson are set to star alongside John Malkovich in the biopic of Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache, Variety can reveal.
Also joining the cast is Ben Schnetzer (“The Book Thief”), who has replaced Rupert Friend after scheduling difficulties meant Friend had to drop out of the project. Schnetzer will play a young version of Celebidachi while Malkovich will play the conductor later in life.
They will be joined by Kate Phillips (“Downton Abbey”), Anton Lesser (“Game of Thrones”) and Charlie Rowe (“Rocketman”).
“The Yellow Tie” tells the story of controversial classical conductor Sergiu Celibidache, one of Romania’s best known classical music artists. He battled homelessness and prejudice before becoming the youngest ever conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Anton Lesser (© Asia Werbel), Kate Phillips (© Anna Michell), Ben Schnetzer

Exclusive: Ben Schnetzer has signed on to star as famed Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache in The Yellow Tie replacing Rupert Friend. Schnetzer will have a central role in the feature, playing the young Celibidache with John Malkovich set to play an older version of the conductor.
The film maps the extraordinary life of legendary classical music conductor Sergiu Celibidache, one of the most celebrated but also one of the most controversial artists of the twentieth century. From his childhood in Romania under the draconian authority of a disciplinarian father, to his painful flight from home to pursue his dream of a career in music, his struggle for survival in wartime Germany and his rise, fall and rise again, in a truly unimaginable career and life path, spanning seven decades and all four corners of the globe. This is the true story of a singular individual with a remarkable but tortuous destiny.

Romania’s culture minister Lucian Romașcanu is confident that the country’s beleaguered cash rebate system is back on track, insisting in Cannes on Sunday that the government is committed to “repairing” a scheme that has ground to a halt in recent years.
“Everyone in politics, starting with the future Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, understands the importance of that,” said Romașcanu, outlining plans to rebuild confidence in an incentive program that faces stiff competition in the region. “There is definitely a ‘yes’ from the political world.”
According to Romașcanu, the administration is now determined to clear a backlog of roughly €100 million ($108.2 million) owed to foreign productions that have lensed in the Eastern European nation since the rebate was introduced, after a host of lawsuits over outstanding payments pushed the cashback program to a breaking point.
He was also optimistic that those payments will begin to flow by this fall, and...

Director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) recently wrapped production on not only a remake of the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here), but an entire remake trilogy. While we’re still waiting to hear what sort of release strategy Lionsgate has in mind for these three new Strangers movies, Collider was able to talk to star Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) about the trilogy – and Petsch promised that these Strangers movies will deliver more answers, more mystery, and more scares.
When asked what she would tell The Strangers fans who are skeptical about the remake trilogy, Petsch answered, “I’d like to first tell that person that I too feel that way about the original Strangers. When I got sent the trilogy of scripts, I said, ‘This feels like a behemoth that maybe shouldn’t be touched.’ I really felt that way as well and I...

Part of the reason why "The Strangers" has endured as an effective horror movie is that we've all had that feeling of being home alone at night, yet it still feels like there's something else watching us from the shadows. After 85 minutes of homebound terror, the words "because you were home" make all of the preceding violence sound so hauntingly meaningless. A couple on the rocks is thrust into a harrowing night of survival for no other reason besides that their lights were on.
It wasn't until a decade later that a sequel came to theaters with "The Strangers: Prey at Night," which /Film's Chris Evangelista called a "schlocky slasher showcase." Rather than rehashing the hopelessness of Bryan Bertino's 2008 home invasion thriller, the follow-up from Johannes Roberts saw the human prey actually landing a few blows in against their stalkers, and living to see another day.
