Does Roman Holiday Have A Future Home on Broadway?
Currently onstage at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis is the period musical spectacular Roman Holiday. Based on the iconic film, the show features the music of Cole Porter, including hits like Easy to Love, Begin the Beguine, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye and Riding High, in addition to rarely heard gems that fit perfectly into the story. The production began preview performances on June 9 and opens tonight, June 15. The run is scheduled to continue through August 19 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage. Guthrie Artistic Producing Artistic Director John Miller-Stephany helms.

Exclusive: Laura Osnes & John Belhmann Lead Roman Holiday Guthrie Reading
BroadwayWorld.com has learned details about a recent reading of the Guthrie Theatre's upcoming production of Roman Holiday in Minneapolis. Starring in the reading, directed by John Miller-Stephany were Laura Osnes as Princess Ann and John Behlmann as Joe Bradley. They rest of the reading cast featured many of the area's top local talent. We're told that the reading went quite well, and that the song choices, which of course include some of Porter's biggest hits like Easy to Love, Begin the Beguine, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye and Riding High also included many rarely heard gems that 'fit perfectly into the story.' Also in attendance for the staged reading were book writer Paul Blake and other members of the creative team.

The cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World were collectively required to master a vast array of new skills for the third film from British director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). Those many non-musicians who essay band members in the movie had to learn how to play instruments so that they could convincingly thrash along to songs penned by such real-life acts as Beck and Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene. Meanwhile, those involved in the film’s numerous fight sequences were made to attend an intensive martial arts course that preceded the film’s six month Toronto shoot.
