The cast of The Testaments is growing, as the show gets closer to landing the greenlight from Hulu. The latest to join the series is a Presumed Innocent star, who joins as one of the series leads.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is officially the last of that series, but the universe is still looking at growing. Margaret Atwood released a long-awaited sequel for the series in 2019. It followed three female characters, who would all eventually find each other in Gilead. The outcome may have been surprising to many, especially for one in particular.

One of the lead characters is Aunt Lydia, who has proven to be loyal to Gilead more times than one in The Handmaid’s Tale. Ann Dowd is expected to reprise the role in The Testaments, and the events of The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 are sure to set up that storyline.

Deadline exclusively broke the news on Thursday (February 13), reporting that the casting announcement comes as Hulu prepares to greenlight the Testaments.

Chase is one of three stars from the series and will appear alongside Ann who will reprise her Handmaid’s Tale role Aunt Lydia Clements.

It is currently unclear if Elisabeth Moss will return for the series. However, the goal is reportedly to have her as a guest star.

The Handmaid’s Tale creator Bruce Miller will serve as showrunner of the new series.

Hulu and MGM, home to the Emmy-winning series starring Elisabeth Moss, have been actively developing the next adaptation from Margaret Atwood. The Testaments is the sequel to her best-selling 1985 dystopian novel that inspired the flagship series. When The Testaments was first announced in 2019, the streamer and studio began discussions with The Handmaid’s Tale series creator Bruce Miller about the follow-up becoming a key extension to the hit drama that put the streamer on the map for original content.

The Paley Center announced Thursday that the panels for Agatha All Along, Hacks, Severance and Poker Face have expanded to include even more of the casts than previously announced.

Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp will join Kathryn Hahn and Jac Schaeffer for a discussion about their witchy Marvel Television series, while Carl Clemons-Hopkins and Mark Indelicato will be there for the conversation about their HBO comedy.

The 2025 PaleyFest lineup for Los Angeles has been revealed, and the nine-day event will feature a special tribute to Emmy-winning showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino that reunites the casts of Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, along with her upcoming Étoile.

In addition, PaleyFest L.A. will celebrate the final seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) and Cobra Kai (Netflix/Sony), plus Severance (Apple TV+), Agatha All Along (Disney+/Marvel), Matlock (CBS), Hacks (Max), and Poker Face (Peacock). The event will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood from March 21 to March 29.

The event, which launched in 1984, features screenings, Q&As, and meet-and-greets. The organization supports the Paley Center’s education initiatives as well as the preservation of the Paley Archive, featuring more than 160,000 historically significant television and radio programs.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is going to be the last. While it was originally meant to arrive on Hulu this fall, that release has been delayed. Not by too much it would seem, though.

The series was set to start production at the end of 2023. It would allow for a fall 2024 release date, but the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in summer 2023 halted everything. The good news is production has now started.

The series shared the start of production on Instagram, with Elisabeth Moss holding the clapper for the first scene. Yes, you can see Moss’s name as the director of the episode.

Hulu’s critically acclaimed, all-too-timely drama The Handmaid’s Tale has officially begun production on season six. The final season of the Emmy-winning series, based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, is expected to premiere in spring 2025.

Elisabeth Moss returns as June Osborne and directs the first episode of the final season. The season six cast also includes Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford, Bradley Whitford as Joseph Lawrence, Max Minghella as Nick Blaine, Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia Clements, O-t Fagbenle as Luke Bankole, and Samira Wiley as Moira Strand. Madeline Brewer plays Janine Lindo, Amanda Brugel is Rita Blue, Sam Jaeger stars as Mark Tuello, and Ever Carradine is Naomi Putnam. In July 2024 it was announced Josh Charles had joined the cast as a series regular.

Filming on the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has, at long last, begun, Hulu announced on Friday. The network shared a photo of star Elisabeth Moss, who’s also directing and holding a clapboard, with the note that the Emmy-winning series will return in spring of 2025.

It’s been nearly two years since the Season 5 finale and a year-and-a-half since executive producers Erich Tuchman and Yahlin Chang were named co-showrunners for Season 6.

Longtime showrunner and series creator Bruce Miller stepped away from the drama after five seasons to focus on the development of its upcoming sequel series “The Testaments,” which like “Handmaid’s Tale” is based on the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It’s set 15 years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Miller is still involved with the final season as an executive producer and writer.

Hulu on Friday shared an image of series lead Elisabeth Moss holding a slate from the opening day of filming on the show’s sixth and last season. The slate shows that cameras began rolling on Sept. 3 — and that Moss is directing the first episode (she previously helmed six episodes across seasons four and five).

The Disney-owned streamer also said that season six will premiere in spring 2025, which will mean about a 2 1/2-year gap between the season five finale, which debuted Nov. 9, 2022, and the final season opener. Production on The Handmaid’s Tale had been scheduled to resume in fall 2023 but was pushed back as striking writers and actors negotiated for, and eventually won, better contracts with media companies. Lining up schedules for the show’s cast further moved the start date to this week.
