The clock is ticking ever closer to the release of the sixth and final season of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ on April 8, and closer still to Hulu ramping up preparations for its first ever spinoff show.
Based on the 2019 book of the same name by Margaret Atwood, the show will take place in the same universe ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ takes place in. The catch? Read on to find out.
Will Elisabeth Moss Reprise Her June Character In ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Spinoff?
I guess we ask this question whenever we hear of a spinoff; are we going to be seeing any recognizable faces in it? The answer is sometimes yes, sometimes no, and most times, just to preserve the integrity of the word we call surprise, maybe.
So will our somewhat favorite handmaid be returning? Well, it’s not a done deal yet, especially since the events of this spinoff is happening...

Can I just take a moment to admire the miracle that is the teaser for the sixth and final season of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale?’ It is so captivating I’ll bet you it’ll inspire new people to start the series just to get to where we are today. And where we are is good, regardless of the long wait – that part, that part was not very good. But I’m so glad that the revolution is finally coming to town, and wow, I couldn’t keep my inner voice in when I heard the quote, “Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil.”
Am I getting ahead of myself? Seems like I am. Okay, here’s everything we know about the sixth and final season of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’

The cast of The Testaments is growing, as the show gets closer to landing the greenlight from Hulu. The latest to join the series is a Presumed Innocent star, who joins as one of the series leads.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is officially the last of that series, but the universe is still looking at growing. Margaret Atwood released a long-awaited sequel for the series in 2019. It followed three female characters, who would all eventually find each other in Gilead. The outcome may have been surprising to many, especially for one in particular.
One of the lead characters is Aunt Lydia, who has proven to be loyal to Gilead more times than one in The Handmaid’s Tale. Ann Dowd is expected to reprise the role in The Testaments, and the events of The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 are sure to set up that storyline.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the TV show The Handmaid's Tale.Emily, the quietly defiant Handmaid brought to life by Alexis Bledel in The Handmaid's Tale TV series, is a character who resonates deeply with audiences. Unlike her book counterpart, the nameless Ofglen, the show granted her a distinct identity, making her a pivotal figure in the resistance. Her journey, marked by both resilience and heartbreak, culminated in a seemingly triumphant escape to Canada.
However, Emily's sudden disappearance in season 5 left a gaping hole in the narrative. While the show hints at her return to Gilead to continue the fight, this sudden departure feels unsatisfying for a character who has endured so much. The series is one of the biggest TV shows returning to screens in 2025 and expectations are high. Last season of The Handmaid’s Tale started and ended with a look from star Elisabeth Moss.
The fifth season of Hulu’s hit dystopian series began with the smirk seen ’round the globe that pit June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) against Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski), and the season came surprisingly full circle when it ended with the same telling expression between the pair as they unexpectedly found themselves alone, yet together, on the same train of Gilead refugees hoping to make it to Vancouver and, eventually, Hawaii.
At the time of that November 2022 finale, Moss, also an executive producer and director on the Emmy-winning tale, told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s actually a pretty positive ending for the show and the season, which we don’t usually do. It’s a cliffhanger, … but there’s something positive about it. Of course, of all the people that would be on the...

Hulu has revealed the first photo from the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale. The Emmy Award-winning series returns to Hulu in Spring 2025.
“Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ve been up to… We are hard at work on the final season and I’m so excited to share with you guys these first look images,” said executive producer and star Elisabeth Moss.
She added that the photos are “from episodes 1 and 2, directed by yours truly, and episode 3, directed by David Lester, all shot by Nicola Daley.”
Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States.
Offred (Elisabeth Moss), one of the few fertile women known as Handmaids in the oppressive Republic of Gilead, struggles to survive as a reproductive surrogate for a powerful Commander and his resentful wife.

With talk of "tossed salad and scrambled eggs," the meaning behind the Frasier theme song still baffles many viewers despite how iconic it is. After debuting on Cheers as a recurring character who gradually became part of the beloved ensemble, Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) made for one of the rare sitcom characters to headline a successful spinoff, with Frasier building its own legacy outside of Cheers. Yet after over a decade on the air and a new reboot, the Frasier theme song's meaning remains elusive.
While the Frasier reboot is missing key characters like Niles and Marty, it keeps the same theme song. The original Frasier's distinctive theme "Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs" is sung by Kelsey Grammer himself, and ranks alongside the likes of Friends' "I'll Be There For You" as one of the most recognizable sitcom themes of the era. Its popularity is all the more impressive given...

The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is going to be the last. While it was originally meant to arrive on Hulu this fall, that release has been delayed. Not by too much it would seem, though.
The series was set to start production at the end of 2023. It would allow for a fall 2024 release date, but the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in summer 2023 halted everything. The good news is production has now started.
The series shared the start of production on Instagram, with Elisabeth Moss holding the clapper for the first scene. Yes, you can see Moss’s name as the director of the episode.

Filming on the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has, at long last, begun, Hulu announced on Friday. The network shared a photo of star Elisabeth Moss, who’s also directing and holding a clapboard, with the note that the Emmy-winning series will return in spring of 2025.
It’s been nearly two years since the Season 5 finale and a year-and-a-half since executive producers Erich Tuchman and Yahlin Chang were named co-showrunners for Season 6.
Longtime showrunner and series creator Bruce Miller stepped away from the drama after five seasons to focus on the development of its upcoming sequel series “The Testaments,” which like “Handmaid’s Tale” is based on the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It’s set 15 years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Miller is still involved with the final season as an executive producer and writer.

The final season of The Handmaid’s Tale is finally underway.
Hulu on Friday shared an image of series lead Elisabeth Moss holding a slate from the opening day of filming on the show’s sixth and last season. The slate shows that cameras began rolling on Sept. 3 — and that Moss is directing the first episode (she previously helmed six episodes across seasons four and five).
The Disney-owned streamer also said that season six will premiere in spring 2025, which will mean about a 2 1/2-year gap between the season five finale, which debuted Nov. 9, 2022, and the final season opener. Production on The Handmaid’s Tale had been scheduled to resume in fall 2023 but was pushed back as striking writers and actors negotiated for, and eventually won, better contracts with media companies. Lining up schedules for the show’s cast further moved the start date to this week.

Over the course of five seasons, we’ve watched June’s journey to escape Gilead in The Handmaid’s Tale. The series has certainly grown from what it originally started, which was about surviving this horrific world. It’s become one about the different individual journeys for handmaids, Marthas, and wives.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is officially the end. While the Hulu series is popular, it certainly needed to wrap things up. This is one that couldn’t just get an abrupt ending, and it needed time to plan the closure. That’s what it has.

When it came time to name their new company, Alison Rou and Sarah Tallman looked to the citrus family.
It became an obvious choice considering their respective histories. If You Cant Wait For The Handmaids Tale Season 6, Watch This New Elisabeth Moss Show In The Meantime
Elisabeth Moss shines in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, which helped her win an Emmy and boosted her career to new heights. While waiting for season 6, viewers can enjoy Moss in the cerebral thriller The Veil. The Veil, which recalls Moss' Top of the Lake, showcases another powerful performance.
The Handmaid's Tale, Hulu's long-running dystopian drama, has launched Elisabeth Moss' already-impressive career to new heights. Based on Margaret Atwood's classic novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale is set in a version of the present where infertility has run rampant. Following a second civil war, the former United States is transformed into Gilead, a theonomic and totalitarian society that enslaves fertile women, known as Handmaids, to bear children for high-ranking officials. June Osborne (Moss) is one of those women, and the first few seasons of The Handmaid's Tale chronicle her efforts to escape Gilead.

Main characters like June Osborne in The Handmaid's Tale and Walter White in Breaking Bad showcase the concept of plot armor, surviving in dire situations due to their narrative importance. Characters such as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders and Dexter Morgan in Dexter consistently evade death despite being in dangerous circumstances, solidifying the idea of plot armor. The Doctor in Doctor Who and Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead showcase extreme examples of plot armor, surviving countless deadly encounters and finding ways to keep going despite the odds.
Plot armor referred to when a character was so important to the story of a show that they were impossible to kill off without that marking the end of the entire series. This realization meant that even when the main characters found themselves facing certain death, all logic pointed to them making it out alive. This can often lower the stakes for viewers,...

The Handmaid's Tale has been streaming for a long time and has faced declining quality, which may affect the reception of The Testaments. The Testaments is still far from being released, and with the long gap between seasons of The Handmaid's Tale, it may struggle to capture enough audience interest. The potential success of The Testaments depends on The Handmaid's Tale season 6 providing a captivating ending that reignites fan interest and sets up the sequel.
The Testaments is confirmed to be in the early stages of production, but it may already be too late to save it from some of the troubles brewing around The Handmaid's Tale. The Testaments is a spin-off sequel to the Hulu show based on the Margaret Atwood dystopian novel where women are reduced to merely a means of childbirth in a future totalitarian government. Bruce Miller, the longtime showrunner for The Handmaid's Tale, is expected to develop the spin-off series.

The Handmaid's Tale sequel, The Testaments, is still in development and will be an extension of the franchise. The Testaments will be set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale and will follow the perspectives of three women. The Testaments is expected to tie up loose ends and unfinished storylines from The Handmaid's Tale, and it will likely feature several characters from the original show.

Looks like June and Serena are going to be on that train for a long time: The Handmaid’s Tale‘s upcoming Season 6, its final run, won’t premiere on Hulu until 2025.

We’re learning more about the upcoming sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The final chapter of the Emmy-winning Hulu series originally was to begin production in 2023 for a fall 2024 premiere, but that schedule, of course, was delayed by the strikes. In an interview with Deadline, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, who oversees content for Hulu Originals, said the sixth season now is set to begin production this summer for premiere in 2025. The series was renewed for its sixth and final season in September 2022, just ahead of its Season 5 premiere.
Season 5 follows June (Elisabeth Moss) in the aftermath of Commander Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) murder and the consequences she must face for her role in the gruesome slaying. At a minimum, she will have to face off with his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), and on some level Gilead. But mainly, she will be forced to redefine her identity and purpose,...
