Whether it’s coming out of Nashville, New York, L.A., or points in between, there’s no shortage of fresh tunes, especially from artists who have yet to become household names. Rolling Stone Country selects some of the best new music releases from country and Americana artists. (Check out last week’s best songs.)

The Georgia Thunderbolts, “Be Good to Yourself”

Peach State country-rockers the Georgia Thunderbolts put their own Southern spin on Scottish blues-rock singer Frankie Miller, delivering a faithful but greasy cover of Miller’s 1977 single “Be Good to Yourself.

The film is scripted by Jean-Pierre Magro and directed by Davide Ferrario.

Veteran star Harvey Keitel has been in Malta recently, starring as a British army officer in Just Noise which is being sold at the Afm by Electric Entertainment.

More and more movies are finding alternative avenues to get funding in recent years, and Kickstarter has been a brilliant way for many filmmakers to help build a paying audience. The Hit Squad is one of the latest projects to do so, recently beginning its Kickstarter campaign to help fund the final stages of the film.

Writer-director Chris Blundell and co-writer Jordan Fuller were able to previously raise $10,000 through crowdfunding to get the movie to the stage it’s at now, in a completely independent environment.

The teaser trailer below boasts some pretty impressive artwork, featuring 8-bit pixel art within a 3D environment. And the results looks to be rather awesome.

Okay, so the "Rum Diary" wasn't a big hit and frankly, wasn't a very good movie either. All the promise of a sun soaked Hunter S. Thompson surrogate in Johnny Depp was wasted with a narrative that went nowhere in a movie that is really only notable for Amber Heard looking great in it. But the music was pretty top shelf, and in fact, it seems to have been so good that a second soundtrack album is on the way. You might remember the first one featured Patti Smith, Dean Martin and Depp himself along with a good chunk of the score, well Smith's "Mermaid" is back, along with a batch of other tunes from the film including the quirky novelty hit "Telstar" by The Tornados, "Surfing Dreams" by Dick Dale & The Del-Tones and "After All (I Live My Life)" by Frankie Miller. A chorus line of fluffers and panderers will gather this August, as they always do, at the Edinburgh International Film Festival to celebrate Kazimierz Lubanski's lost Warsaw arthouse études. Or perhaps it may be Igor Masopust's seminal, and rarely seen, Carpathian trilogie. But whichever it is, I will wonder, and not for the first time, when they will get round to assembling a retrospective on the emerging west of Scotland cinematic oeuvre which has been loosely christened Glasgow Noir by some and Clyde Mort by others.

Country music icon George Jones will be induced into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame August 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Theater. The singer will be inducted alongside Al Dexter and Ray Winkler.
