Filming is underway on showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming Friday the 13th television series from Peacock and A24 that will serve as an expanded prequel to the legendary slasher franchise. And the new Jason Voorhees has boarded the project.

“Chucky” actor Callum Vinson has joined the series as young Jason Voorhees, Deadline reports today.

Vinson, who recently starred as Henry Collins in “Chucky” season three, is billed as a recurring guest star, as this new project focuses on Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees. The series’ version of Pamela Voorhees is “believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.”

Filming kicked off last month on “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming Friday the 13th television series from Peacock and A24 that will serve as an expanded prequel to the legendary slasher franchise. It’s shooting under the faux title “Mama’s Boy,” and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s Instagram account has become our go-to source for behind the scenes updates.

Caleb Kane shared a set photo this morning that quite literally takes us into the woods of Crystal Lake, with a cabin seen off in the distance. It almost looks like a shot from the point-of-view of Mrs. Voorhees, who will no doubt be slaying camp counselors in the Peacock series.

The episode currently in production is directed by Michael Lennox (“Derry Girls”), with the slate listing Maceo Bishop as the cinematographer.

Cameron Scoggins (“Nashville”), Devin Kessler (“Godfather of Harlem”), and newcomer Gwendolyn Sundstrom have joined “Crystal Lake” as series regulars.

Notably, Scoggins will play Dorf, the police officer portrayed by Ron Millkie in the original Friday the 13th. Kessler will play Briana Brooks and Sundstrom will play Grace.

They join the previously announced Linda Cardellini (Scooby-D00) as Mrs. Voorhees and William Catlett (Abigail) as Levon Brooks in the expanded prequel series from A24 and Peacock.

The eight-episode series is set to be directed by Michael Lennox (“Derry Girls”), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (“The Pitt”).

In the show, Mrs. Voorhees is a mother who gave up a singing career to raise her special needs child, only to take a dark turn when she loses her son — Jason Voorhees.

As most diehard fans know, the original Friday the 13th was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, an active Boy Scouts camp in Hardwick, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the campgrounds are off limits to the public, meaning you can’t actually visit the filming locations outside of rare special events that the camp offers. Fans of Friday the 13th will soon have the chance to experience Camp Crystal Lake in real life. Crystal Lake Tours is currently offering tickets for experiences in New Jersey this spring. The various tours will let fans explore the actual filming location that was used for the original slasher classic. These experiences range from a guided walking tour to a full-on hours long experience leading into a night at the camp.

Crystal Lake Tours currently has tickets available for experiences beginning in mid-April. The experiences include Morning Lakefront Tours, Afternoon Extended Tours, Afternoon Canoe Tours and Evening Flashlight Tours. Dante Tomaselli’s (Horror and Satan’s Playground) indie horror movie Torture Chamber has been picked up for distribution from Shoreline. The head of the Shoreline Morris Ruskin told Screendaily, “Lately our company has been focused on arthouse, foreign language and documentary films, but distributors have not let us forget that their appetite for genre-driven fare has not waned. Writer/director Dante Tomaselli's religious horror flick 'Torture Chamber' has been floating around for what seems like forever. Dante is known for his nightmarish indie pictures Desecration, Horror, and Satan’s Playground. Tomaselli has been a lifelong supernatural/horror aficionado and is also the cousin of film director Alfred Sole [Alice, Sweet Alice].
