An animated sci-fi movie with an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score becomes an instant streaming hit in America three months after its $15 million box office. After Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Despicable Me 4, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Kung Fu Panda 4 all ranked within the top 10 highest-grossing movies of 2024, 2025 has been a rough year so farfor animated films at the box office.
However, Dreamworks' Dog Man, released this past January, was a modest success that earned an 80% Rotten Tomatoes score and made over $145 million at the box office. Elio had hopes of turning the year around for animated film, but despite its 83% Rotten Tomatoes score, it debuted to $20 million, the lowest opening weekend ever for a Pixar movie.
There have also been several animated films that flew under that radar at the box office in 2025, earning critical praise but failing to attract large audiences in theaters.

Elio star Yonas Kibreab is plotting his next move. The 13-year-old actor will voice star in Pinocchio & the Water of Life, an indie animated feature he will also executive produce.
The film is a steampunk-inspired take on the classic story of the wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. Victor Lakisov directs from a script by Mark DeCarlo and Ryan Rowe, based on the characters created by Italian author Carlo Collodi, who introduced the world to Pinocchio in 1883’s The Adventures of Pinocchio.
Per the logline, the film follows “Pinocchio and his sidekick Coot as they try to save his puppet friends from the villainous Faustino—who livestreams their destruction in nightly pay-per-view events.”
“I loved voicing Pinocchio,” said Kibreab in a statement. “The animation is incredible—like nothing I’ve ever seen. Victor is a true artist, and being an executive producer on this project has been such an honor.

The first fully animated Looney Tunes movie hits Max on Friday, June 27.
Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are blasting off from the big screen to streaming with “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.” After picking up solid reviews (and a decent box office run), this sci-fi comedy is heading to HBO Max, bringing Looney Tunes chaos to a full-length alien invasion story. The setup? Daffy and Porky accidentally uncover a mind control plot at a bubble gum factory — because of course, they do — and end up as Earth’s last hope. It’s fast, funny, and totally unhinged in the best way. Here’s everything you need to know before it lands on streaming on Friday, June 27 on HBO Max.

HBO Max has finally announced when The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie will be available for streaming on their catalog. Audiences will be able to enjoy the animated project in the comfort of their homes on June 27. The film placed Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both characters voiced by Eric Bauza) in the middle of a dangerous adventure, after the protagonists have spent decades entertaining multiple generations through their appearances in the Looney Tunesfranchise. The latest effort from Warner Bros. animation was recently seen on the big screen, but the title's box office performance left much to be desired.

It’s Ketchup Entertainment to the rescue again! While David Zaslav is, for some reason, hellbent on erasing the iconic Looney Tunes properties at Warner Bros. (including removing the classic Merry Melodies shorts from the Max streaming service and demolishing the Looney Tunes building), Ketchup Entertainment is sliding in to catch the projects getting thrown out by the studio. They have already released the Looney Tunes movie, The Day the Earth Blew Up, which features Daffy Duck and Porky Pig (both voiced by Eric Bauza), with Petunia Pig (Candi Milo) rounding out the trio. The film finds Daffy and Porky learning that aliens are plotting to overtake the planet, which leads the pair to put their differences aside and help save the world.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is closing on its first major global box office milestone after its second weekend in theaters. The animated film, distributed by Ketchup Entertainment, picked up another $1.8 million at the box office this weekend, a 41% decline from last weekend that has still helped it reach $6.4 million domestically. Pair that with the $2.2 million that The Day the Earth Blew Up has earned in international markets, and that gives the film a worldwide cumulative haul of $8.7 million, just shy of $10 million, which it will likely reach by the end of the week. The film stars Eric Bauza as Daffy Duck and Porky Pig and Candi Milo as Petunia Pig, with Peter Browngardt directing.

When people talk about iconic duos in cinema, they tend to bring pairings like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and Al Pacino and Robert De Niro to the table. However, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are the ones I think about when asked to name an iconic duet. I’ve been asking the cinematic gods above for a new film starring two of my favorite Looney Tunes for years. This year, we’ve got The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, an animated send-up to the science-fiction films of yesteryear starring Daffy, Porky, and Petunia. What could be better than that for an old Looney Tunes head like me? Interviewing Eric Bauza and Candi Milo (Petunia Pig), the voice actors behind characters that helped pour the foundation of an entertainment art form I love more than any other genre.

Who’s up for some promising news? According to Deadline, Warner Bros’ shelved Coyote vs. Acme movie could find a new home with Ketchup Entertainment! If Ketchup Entertainment sounds familiar, that’s because the outfit is Gareth West’s distribution-financier company, the same one that rescued WB’s The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from going the way of DC’s vaulted Batgirl movie.
Whispers around the Hollywood water cooler say Coyote vs. Acme could sell to Ketchup Entertainment for roughly $50 million, though the deal is yet to become sealed. Sources close to the acquisition say the agreement continues to move in a positive direction. If Ketchup Entertainment manages to rescue Coyote vs. Acme from the jaws of oblivion, fans could see the film coming to theaters in 2026.

Update March 17, 2025: Paramount's Novocaine topped the box office in its first weekend of release, earning $8.7 million from March 14 to March 16. The action-packed comedy starring Jack Quaid came in slightly under its $10 million forecast to lead a numb weekend box office. Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 held on for second place, adding $7.5 million to the film's total domestic gross of $33 million. Rounding out the top five were Focus Features' Black Bag with $7.5 million, Disney/Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World with $5.5 million, and Ketchup Entertainment's The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which exceeded expectations with $3.2 million.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie finally premiered this weekend and finished inside the top five at the box office. The animated film grossed $3.1 million domestically to claim the #5 spot and $840,000 in international markets to finish only a few hundred dollars away from $4 million globally. This $3.1 million was enough to Push The Day the Earth Blew Up past Paddington in Peru ($2.7 million) and Dog Man ($2.5 million), but it wasn’t enough to beat Captain America: Brave New World ($5.4 million) or Black Bag ($7.5 million). 15 people earned a writing credit for their work on The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie and the film was directed by Peter Browngardt with Eric Bauza and Candi Milo in leading voice roles.

Coyote vs. Acme may not ever see the light of day over at Warner Bros., but the new Looney Tunes movie certainly reminds fans of what could have been. Hitting theaters today, The Day the Earth Blew Up is a fully animated treasure trove of laughs that takes us back to the golden age of the franchise with both its animation style and the zany antics seen throughout. Kids will love it, parents will no doubt see it as a trip down memory lane, and critics? Well, they seem to be almost unanimous thanks to the film's recently revealed Rotten Tomatoes score.

This weekend sees a big “first” for two media superstars that have been in the pop culture “zeitgeist” for ninety years! Well, that’s one of them because his “partner” is actually a couple of years shy of that (still impressive). So, how can they still be working in a new flick, let alone pulling off some amazing stuntwork that would make Tom Cruise envious? Okay, ya’ got me. They are cartoon characters, so they never really age (any wrinkles can be easily erased). They aren’t from the “mouse house”, rather they’re from one of the main Disney rivals in the short subjects market, though many would say that their home base really had no rivals for consistently hilarious cartoons from the 1930s to the early 60s. And they’ve never been the stars of a full-length feature, though they have had “supporting roles” in a few. So,...

Persistence sure does pay off. Porky Pig and Daffy Duck have been gracing screens since 1935 and 1937, respectively, but it took until now for them to star in their own full-length film, the first completely animated Looney Tunes feature to ever hit the big screen (how is that possible?). The results were worth the wait: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a consistent pleasure that should delight youngsters as well as nostalgic adults. It’s a shame that the folks at Warner Bros. didn’t honor their past but instead declined to release the film. Fortunately, indie distributor Ketchup Entertainment has come to the rescue. That studio has a more fun name anyway.

The critics almost couldn't be more impressed with the new animated film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. With its early reviews ahead of its wide release in theaters on March 14, the movie has garnered a Rotten Tomatoes score that's nearly perfect.
On Rotten Tomatoes, as of this writing, The Day the Earth Blew Up currently has an approval rating of 97%. The score will likely fluctuate as more are added, but currently, nearly every review submitted by approved critics is very complimentary of the film, described as a satisfactory watch for both longtime Looney Tunes fans and newcomers to the franchise. While the characters are very familiar and the traditional 2D animation style isn't groundbreaking, the movie is getting praise for proving just how much characters like Porky Pig and Daffy Duck still resonate with viewers of all ages today.

Daffy Duck and Porky Pig attempt to thwart an insidious alien invader in a funny but exceedingly wacky original theatrical adventure. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Moviegives the beloved childhood icons a 2D, hand-drawn cinematic canvas for total chaos and buffoonery. The screwball plot mostly delights as zany twists run amok until a wild ending that honestly overreaches. The bag of nuts tastes yummy until it doesn't. The filmmakers deserve a golf clap for creativity and stoking fandom's nostalgia, but should have reigned in the hijinks for the bonkers finale.

We’ve had Looney Tunes for nearly a century. Leon Schlesinger produced their first short Sinkin’ in the Bathtub alongside animators Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising in 1930. Almost 100 years later, the only Looney Tunes feature films (outside of theatrically released compilations) have been two Space Jams, 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action, the tragically unreleased Coyote vs. Acme, and now the latest offering: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
Directed by Peter Browngardt, this is a charming affair. Modeled after sci-fi B-movies of the 1950s and starring Looney Tunes legends Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza), The Day the Earth Blew Up starts with a UFO landing. The spacecraft takes off on the roof of Porky and Daffy’s broken-down house (bequeathed to them by surrogate father Farmer Jim) just before crashing. It goes on to infect a local scientist (Fred Tatasciore...

Pete Browngardt’s delightful The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, a love letter to Warner Bros.’s iconic Looney Tunes franchise, knows the history of its source of inspiration so well that it has the confidence to work without the safety net of Bugs Bunny. Here we get a rare modern-day spotlight for Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza) that leans into their earliest character traits: Porky as the hapless but fundamentally decent, even good-natured, average joe, and Daffy as an uncontrollable chaos god no longer bound by fate to be humiliated by his nemesis. This Daffy can do bad all by himself.
As far back as 1943’s “Porky’s Pig Feat,” Porky and Daffy have shared a chemistry premised on the tension between the former’s dignity and the latter’s penchant for anarchy. That dynamic is brought to bear here...

Ketchup Entertainment dropped the trailer for “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” on February 28 ahead of its March 14 theatrical release. The indie picked up the Daffy Duck and Porky Pig sci-fi origin story last year after Warner Bros. Discovery killed it for tax purposes (like the live-action/animated Looney Tunes hybrid “Coyote vs. Acme”).
The franchise’s first fully 2D-animated theatrical feature finds Daffy and Porky (both voiced by Eric Bauza) stumbling onto a secret alien plot to take over the world via mind-control and chewing gum. But they attempt to gum up the works with their inimitable antics.
Director Peter Browngardt (“Looney Tunes Cartoons”) admirably captures the essence of the wacky odd couple with wit and warmth, channeling the outrageous look and gags of his favorite Warner Bros. director Bob Clampett. “We wanted the audience caring about these characters,” Browngardt told IndieWire, “but still also...

Feature films have not been kind to the Looney Tunes. There was a time when the wacky adventures of Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Bugs Bunny and their animated pals were the best and funniest shorts on the silver screen, an era that lasted decades. But most of their longer movies were repackaged classic skits, thinly strung together by new bookend material based on whatever movie or TV show was hot at the time, like “Fantasy Island” or “Ghostbusters.” Then of course there were the “Space Jam” films, two of the most creatively bankrupt and shamelessly tacky brand exploitations in the history of [checks notes] everything.
Until now the only great “Looney Tunes” feature was the one that completely flopped, Joe Dante’s inspired and hilarious “Back in Action,” which smartly skewered the callow capitalism that made the “Space Jam” movies a cinematic crime. The new film, “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie,...

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie has recently released a new trailer that serves as both a reminder that Looney Tunes still have the potential to dominate the big screen and the lost potential that was Coyote vs Acme. The Looney Tunes have recently re-entered the public mind with the intense discourse surrounding Coyote vs. Acme; Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the film directed by Dave Green as part of a tax write-off. The aforementioned process ended with the film no longer being able to be released despite being completely finished.
Thankfully, The Day the Earth Blew Up was acquired by Ketchup Entertainment, allowing the Warner Bros. animation-produced film to see the light of day. The film premiered at the Annecy Animation Film Festival to rave reviews and reactions, further justifying the purchase of the movie. After watching The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, I found it fascinating that there has never been a standalone animated Looney Tunes movie. Yes, three “compilation” films were released during an early ’80s run, including Daffy Duck’s Fantastic Island, The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie, and Bugs Bunny’s 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales.
And no, the Space Jam movies and the Brendan Fraser effort Looney Tunes: Back in Action do not count. The Orson Welles United Artists documentary Bugs Bunny: Superstar has a special place in my heart.
Since when do the iconic, classic Warner Brothers cartoon characters need anyone to help them? Finally, a wrong has been righted with The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie! It’s hilarious, and the script maintains the timeless comedic aesthetic while incorporating modern-day themes for today’s audience.

While martial arts animated series are often associated with anime, plenty of other styles of animation have excelled in this type of programming. Although many of the most famous examples of martial TV shows, such as Dragon Ball and Naruto, stemmed from Japan, Western animation studios also produced some of the greatest examples of this genre. Martial arts as a discipline teaches its practitioners about the virtues of consistency, mindfulness, and training, which makes it the perfect topic for the life lessons taught to young viewers in many animated series.
Some of the greatest animated series explored themes around martial arts and the virtues of fighting for what is right. By blending different genres such as action, fantasy, and sci-fi in series populated by skilled fighters, the narrative potential of battles between good and evil is endless. Plot: Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig are Earth’s only hope when facing the threat of alien invasion.
Review: During a time when moral compasses are pointing anywhere but up, and on a day when you find your credit card is beyond its limit, it sure is nice to feel like a kid again. Few things could bring me back to when Sesame Street’s “12 and Pinball” animation was the hottest jam of the Summer, like Looney Tunes. Every morning, and sometimes on Saturdays, Bugs, Daffy, Porky Pig, and their eclectic cast of friends molded my sense of humor, gave me a fondness for classical music, and invited sunshine into even the rainiest days.
I lost my mind when I heard Daffy Duck and Porky Pig would reunite for an unconventional 2D Looney Tunes movie. The news helped lick the wounds of losing the shelved Coyote vs. Acme,...

Judging by entertainment news, the term "animated" might seem like an industry euphemism for "tax write-off." And despite Warner Bros. being the most destructive thing to happen to cartoons since the eraser, its new feature film, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, is getting love from critics. The first reviews are in for the Looney Tunes movie that managed to escape Warner Bros.' clutches and land a theatrical release (more on that in a moment), and the response from critics so far is overwhelmingly positive.

“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” is one of the animated delights of the year. In the franchise’s first fully 2D-animated theatrical feature, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig (both voiced by Eric Bauza) discover a secret alien plot to take over the world via mind-control and chewing gum, gumming up the works with their inimitable antics in the process.
Peter Browngardt (“Looney Tunes Cartoons”) captures the essence of the wacky odd couple with wit and warmth, channeling the outrageous style of Bob Clampett. But were it not for Ketchup Entertainment, “The Day the Earth Blew Up” would’ve been killed off by Warner Bros. Long Live Looney Tunes. Unfortunately, the same cant be said for a lot of other IPs once under the Warner Brothers banner. Among a laundry list of theatrical take-downs, website wipes and digital content deletions, WB recently scrubbed one of its longest-standing streaming services. Standing as the director and writer behind The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Pete Browngardt commented on the recent cancelation of Boomerang, the all-around classic toon channel:
Its becoming more and more difficult to, at times, find classic animation thats out there. Especially with the streaming services. They are wonderful a lot of the time, but they are also the gatekeepers of whats available. I always say that if you love something, find a physical copy of it and keep it in your house. Of the many crimes the Animaniacs' notorious nemesis, David Zaslav, has perpetrated during his reign of terror as CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, his blatant disrespect for the Looney Tunes ranks high on the list. As if doing little to promote the terrific modern "Looney Tunes Cartoons" series that are available exclusively on Max wasn't bad enough, Zaslav's regime has also yanked a whole lot of golden age "Looney Tunes" shorts from its streaming service and killed the live-action/animated hybrid feature "Coyote vs. Acme" solely for the sake of a tax write-off. Sadly, it seems we'll never know if Dave Green's New Yorker-inspired legal satire was an entertaining as the early buzz suggested. Nevertheless, 2024 is shaping up to be a major year for Bugs, Daffy, Porky, and the rest of the Looney gang.

Cartoon Network reboots like Adventure Time movie and Regular Show new series spark interest in potential returns for other beloved shows. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy are prime candidates for reboots. Series like Codename: Kids Next Door, The Cramp Twins, and Ed, Edd N Eddy also have untapped potential for successful returns.
There have been several major Cartoon Network reboots in recent years that have highlighted other series that should also return. With Adventure Time getting a movie, Regular Show receiving a new series, and a new season of Gumball on the way, this brings to mind the other fantastic shows that Cartoon Network viewers would love to see back on the small screen. While some were lesser-known productions that deserved more attention, other major series also have maintained plenty of reboot potential.
