In the pantheon of Erotic Thrillers, Body of Evidence is an odd one. It falls into the even more niche sub-category of courtroom thrillers, which spend as much time on the naughty bits as they do with witnesses on the stand or in depositions (see also: Disclosure).

Enter Body of Evidence. In the film, femme fatale Rebecca Carlson (Madonna) is arrested and charged with murder when her older, wealthy boyfriend John Marsh (Michael Forest) is found dead. Turns out the pair had quite the risqué sex life (or at least as risqué as mainstream Hollywood fare was willing to address in 1993): they were having non-missionary sex that involved some light bondage (ie: restraints such as belts and handcuffs).

The executive producer on Stephen Gyllenhaal’s upcoming So B. It unveiled his new company on Tuesday.

Among the first two projects to be optioned is The Hard Way Out, which Jay Cohen of The Gersh Agency packaged and centres on a wrongly convicted man who returns to his Texas hometown and encounters a free-spirited woman.

So B. It producer Orien Richman is on board and Brad Mirman wrote the screenplay.

Racing film Pure Speed takes place in the world of drifting that veteran effects supervisor Rif Dagher is attached to direct. Production is scheduled for early 2018.

So B. It was recently acquired by Good Deed Entertainment and will receive a limited theatrical release in October.

The dividing line between a film being an homage and a rip-off is sorely tested with "Forsaken", a 2015 Canadian Western by director Jon Cassar, who is best known for his acclaimed, award-winning work in television. This is a rare venture into feature film making for him and the result left me with decidedly mixed emotions.  The film marks another collaboration between Cassar and actor Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in Cassar's wildly successful TV series "24". That the two men are comfortable with each other's style is immediately apparent from the first frames of the film. We want to extend kudos to them for bravely venturing where few in the movie industry dare to tread any longer: the realm of the Western, a genre that has been routinely neglected for decades. Despite the success of Westerns such as "Unforgiven", "Dances With Wolves" and "Open Range", studio chiefs can't seem...

Going into Forsaken with the intent to enjoy yourself is quite easy: with likable real-life father/son pair Kiefer Sutherland and Donald Sutherland playing on-screen family, all set amidst the backdrop of a post-Civil War small western town, the potential for an emotionally-fueled slice of western escapism is palpable. And it should go without saying that the familial chemistry shared between the two leads is Forsaken‘s biggest draw.

They’re easy to watch, the setting is lush (while occasionally incongruous in a studio backlot kind-of-way), and Kiefer has the angsty gunslinger bit nailed down, but Forsaken‘s mind-numbing story derails the movie of all momentum. Its bad guys are bland (save one), its moralistic preachiness is off-putting, and its unadorned direction repeatedly robs potentially captivating scenes of any emotional relevance.

The western movie streak continues! There have been a lot of good westerns recently that include The Hateful Eight, Bone Tomahawk, and Slow West, and Jane Got a Gun is coming up. We’ve got another one on the way called Forsaken, and it stars father and son duo Kiefer and Donald Sutherland. I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty cool to see the Sutherlands starring in a movie together like this. It looks like it will be a decent film worth checking out, especially if you’re into westerns.

In 1872, John Henry Clayton (Kiefer Sutherland) retires as a gunfighter and returns to his hometown of Fowler, Wyoming in hope of repairing his relationship with his estranged father, Reverend Clayton (Donald Sutherland). However, he soon learns that the town is in turmoil, as the railroad will be coming through the area and a criminal gang is terrorizing ranchers who refuse to sell their land.

Just when you thought you’d seen every possible variation of men seeking redemption while dealing with their parental issues, along comes Forsaken – starring Kiefer Sutherland, and his legendary father, Donald. Directed by Jon Cassar (24), and written by Brad Mirman (Highlander: The Final Dimension), the western is clearly aimed at those that would like the thrill of watching father and son engage in impassioned yelling over past misdeeds.

The distributor has pounced on its second title in Toronto, taking Us rights from Minds Eye Entertainment to Jon Cassar’s Western.

Kiefer Sutherland and Donald Sutherland star together for the first time in Forsaken, which is set to premiere as a Gala Presentation in Toronto on Wednesday.

Forsaken is a co-production between Panacea Entertainment and Minds Eye Entertainment and shot entirely on location at the Cl Ranch near Cochrane, Alberta.

Brian Cox, Michael Wincott, Greg Ellis and Aaron Poole round out the key cast on the story of a gunslinger who returns to his home town to repair his relationship with his father.

Kiefer Sutherland’s 24 collaborator Cassar directed from a screenplay by Brad Mirman, while Kevin DeWalt, Josh Miller, Bill Marks, Gary Howsam and Isabella Marchese Ragona produced.

Momentum, a stand-alone company that was recently revived under the eOne umbrella, acquired Stephen Frears’ Toronto selection The Program over the weekend.

According to Canadian news outlet the Calgary Sun, "Redemption" co-stars Kiefer Sutherland and Demi Moore were spotted enjoying a night on the town with the movie's screenwriter, Brad Mirman, and one other person in Calgary over the weekend.

As the evening progressed, Moore reportedly called it a night, and Sutherland let loose. "He was stumbling, he took his shirt off, he was dancing," an eyewitness told the Sun. "It was a funny experience."

Sutherland and Moore are north of the border filming their 2014 western "Redemption," in which Sutherland stars as a quick-draw killer who returns home to repair his relationship with his estranged father, played by none other than the actor's real-life pops, Donald Sutherland.

The younger Sutherland is also set to reprise his iconic "24" role in "24: Live Another Day," a 12-week limited series slated to premiere on Fox next May.

At the height of the Berlin Film Festival, THR informs us that Lucas Foster is joining forces with Gfm Films to bring a casino heist film, The Job, to the big screen.

Foster — who’s produced titles that include Man on Fire, Law Abiding Citizen, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith — will produce the thriller, based on Brad Mirman‘s original script. Guy Collins, the market veteran behind Gfm Films, stated that, for them, “the timing is perfect [...] to discuss the film with distributors during the European Film Market in Berlin.” Mirman has also scripted some lesser known films, including Shadows in the Sun, The Piano Player and the upcoming Sleight of Hand, which he is also directing.

I have no doubt that Mel Gibson will put his foot in his mouth again in the future and say something ridiculously inappropriate.  But until that snafu comes, it appears starring in The Beaver is only the beginning of Gibson's second chance in Tinsel Town.

The Beaver may not have been quite the comeback that Mel Gibson wanted, but it was probably the comeback that he deserved. Still, signs point to the fact that the film's relative under-performance is due less to disdain for the actor and more towards a general sense of disinterest and lack of awareness about the film. For real comeback action Mel Gibson will probably have to work in a genre that has more potential for audience impact. How about some form of buddy comedy -- that being the format that defined one stage of his career thanks to the Lethal Weapon films? Kiefer Sutherland, the legendary Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, is set to star in upcoming heist comedy, Sleight of Hand, Variety reports.

The film will start production this summer, and is set to be sold at Cannes this month.

Director Brad Mirman is will be taking the helm, and Sutherland has recently been working with him on a ten-part web series, The Confession, in which Sutherland stars as a hitman opposite John Hurt’s priest in a confessional, each episode about five to ten minutes long. Whilst I’m yet to see the series, the premise certainly has me intrigued, and a mental note has been made to see what Mirman’s writing and directing skills are like.

The cast also includes Gerard Depardieu, Thomas Jane, Til Schweiger, Jon Lovitz, Johnny Hallyday and Eric Cantona. The rights to the film will be sold at the impending Cannes Film Festival. Lars Von Trier’s film ‘Melancholia’ will also be making its debut at the festival, in which Sutherland also stars. So it will certainly be a busy festival for him.

Deadline is reporting Rachel Weisz is in "deep talks" for a role in The Bourne Legacy opposite Jeremy Renner whose carrying on the franchise as a new character: an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.
