Michael C. Hall Reveals Impulse That Resurrected Dexter; Talks Joyous Yet Complicated Reunion With Batista
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points for the Dexter: Resurrection series premiere

Michael C. Hall is back as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection, having cheated death again and ready to slay more serial killer butt. The first two episodes are available to stream now.

The new spinoff follows the events of Dexter: New Blood, which ended with Dexter’s son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), shooting his very first serial killer, his dad. Dexter decided it was time he be taken out, having reemerged with his dark passenger, unable to release the monster inside. It’s part of the code, after all.

In the first moments of Dexter: Original Sin, it’s revealed that the titular killer had survived the attempt on his life and had been rushed to the hospital. The prequel spinoff, starring Patrick Gibson as young Dexter, follows the serial killer in training as...

Dexter: Resurrection Episode 1 Brings Back Multiple Dead Characters In A Clever Way
Image
Note: The first episode of "Dexter: Resurrection" is now streaming on Paramount+ Premium, and debuts on Showtime at 8pm Et this Sunday night. This post contains spoilers for the premiere episode.

Showtime was adamant about Michael C. Hall's eponymous serial killer staying alive in the "Dexter" finale, and now we know why. The character's popularity among viewers means that he can always be brought back for more slaughter-filled adventures, and it was only a matter of time until the Bay Harbor Butcher struck again. The revival series, "Dexter: New Blood," caught up with Dexter Morgan years after faking his own death, revealing that he moved from Miami to a small town, where he lived under a fake alias. It was only a matter of time until he got into trouble again, though, and the series ended with his son shooting him in the chest and leaving him for dead.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Cast Talks Premiere, Dead Serial Killers and a New Dark Passenger
Image
[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Episodes 1 and 2.] Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is back. The first two episodes of Dexter: Resurrection have premiered, and, as showrunner Clyde Phillips told us ahead of Dexter: Original Sin‘s debut last fall, the serial killer of serial killers narrowly survived being shot by his own son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), thanks to the freezing outdoors slowing his body from bleeding out. Here’s a look at everything that happened, along with some exclusive quotes from the cast! “A Beating Heart” The first episode of the new series picks up right where Dexter: New Blood left off as local doctors race to save his life. It then flashes forward 10 weeks to Dexter, still in a coma, experiencing dream visits from some of the biggest rivals of his past. First, it’s Arthur Mitchell a.k.a. The Trinity Killer (John Lithgow), who taunts him about also having a...

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Premiere Spoilers: How Is Dexter Alive?
Image
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “A Beating Heart…,” the series premiere of “Dexter: Resurrection,” now streaming on Paramount+.

When “Dexter: Resurrection” was announced during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we sat down with Michael C. Hall to ask one main question: How?

During “Dexter: New Blood” in 2022, the finale saw the serial killer bleeding out in the freezing cold after being shot by his son. At that time, showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed that “Dexter is dead.” But apparently, he was just kidding!

“It’s really cold out there,” Hall told Variety at the time, hinting at how Dexter could have some how survived that gunshot wound. It turns out that’s exactly how Dexter survived. The series premiere of “Resurrection” begins (after a brief run-through of what happened in “New Blood”) with the titular character in the hospital after suffering “catastrophic blood loss.” Doctors have revived him...

Dexter Showrunner Shares Disappointing Update On The Trinity Killer Prequel Show
Image
There have long been talks about a show focused on the infamous Trinity Killer (John Lithgow), but Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips just gave a disappointing update on the project. Phillips mentioned at about the same time Dexter: Original Sin debuted that all the episodes of the Trinity prequel series had been written and that John Lithgow had agreed to narrate. Trinity is even set to appear in Dexter: Resurrection.

In an interview with Collider, however, Clyde Phillips explained that the Trinity spinoff show, despite being written, hasn't been picked up by Showtime, Paramount, or any other production company.

"It’s completely written. John Lithgow has agreed to do the voice, to narrate it, but it is not picked up yet. We’re hoping that with the success of Resurrection, and Original Sin [season 2] has just been picked up, that Chris McCarthy and the Paramount people will want to expand the Dexterverse.

It Took Me 15 Years to Realize Dexter Season 4 Had a Major Spoiler Moment
Image
When Dexter Season 4 aired its finale in 2009, it was lauded for being one of the show’s most thrilling and devastating episodes. The Trinity Killer arc- arguably the series’ most prominent antagonist arc- concluded with a heartbreaking twist that left viewers reeling.

But what many viewers, including hardcore fans, overlooked at the time was a throwaway line in the finale that accidentally gave us a spoiler for the show’s eventual ending. It was subtle, hypothetical, and drenched in the intensity of Dexter’s kill room monologue. But looking back now, I can say that moment was definitely a spoiler hidden in plain sight. It might have even been unintentional, but it still stands as one of the most brilliantly ironic pieces of foreshadowing in television history.

Dexter’s cryptic line in Season 4 was a spoiler to the show’s ending

In Season 4, Episode 12, titled “The Getaway”, Dexter (Michael C. Hall...

'Dexter: Resurrection' Trailer Reveals Michael C. Hall's Killer Return
Image
Although it seemed that Dexter’s journey had finally come to an end following the character’s “death,” you really cannot keep a good killer down. Dexter: Resurrection is now just over a month away from binging back Michael C. Hall’s ever-popular vigilante serial killer, and that means it is time for a brand-new trailer to whet the appetite for this follow-up to Dexter: New Blood. Surprise motherf***er indeed.

When Dexter came to an end in 2013, with a rather disappointing finale for many fans, it seemed like that was it for the killer ways of the character. But almost a decade later, Dexter: New Blood picked up the story, bringing in, as the title suggests, plenty of new blood to the franchise while also bringing back Hall in the titular role. Last year, the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin became yet another unexpected addition to the franchise.

Michael C. Hall in Dexter (2006)
Dexter: Resurrection gets a premiere date and a trailer!
Michael C. Hall in Dexter (2006)
For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering back in December and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection, which heard was heading for a June premiere date. It’s actually going to miss June by a handful of days, as Showtime has revealed (and trades like The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed) that Dexter: Resurrection is going to premiere with two episodes on Friday,...

Dexter: Resurrection Trailer Teases Michael C. Hall's New NYC Mission & Provides A Look At Peter Dinklage's Powerful Character
Image
The first official trailer for the upcoming Dexter sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, has been released by Paramount+ with Showtime at Ccxp Mexico 2025. Created by Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips, Dexter: Resurrection will take place after the events of Dexter: New Blood, which ended with Dexter seemingly being shot and killed by his adult son, Harrison. A brief opening scene in Dexter: Original Sin, which received mostly positive reviews, revealed that Dexter survived the gunshot ahead of the Dexter: Resurrection series premiere on July 11, 2025.

The new trailer for Dexter: Resurrection shows Michael C. Hall's iconic Dexter Morgan hitting the streets of New York City. After waking up in a hospital and encountering his old Miami Metro colleague Angel Batista, played by David Zayas, asking about Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher, Dexter makes a break for it. He meets Uma Thurman's new character,...

‘Dexter: Resurrection’: After Eric Stonestreet, I Want Another ‘Modern Family’ Star Who Can Play the Scariest Serial Killer in the Franchise
Image
When the news broke that Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet would be walking into the twisted world of Dexter: Resurrection as a potential serial killer, longtime fans of the sitcom were both surprised and intrigued. Famous for his Emmy-winning portrayal of the flamboyant and hilarious Cameron Tucker, he initially seemed like an unlikely choice for a role so dark.

But if Stonestreet can successfully go from punchlines to murdering people, who’s to say another Modern Family star can’t follow suit? I’m thinking Ty Burrell: the fun-loving, ever-so-awkward father. His portrayal as Phil Dunphy feels so sincere, it’s almost impossible to think of him playing anyone else. And for this very reason, I think he could be an excellent choice for someone who can channel likability to disguise their true, dark nature.

After Stonestreet, this Modern Family alum would be a good fit for Dexter...

John Lithgow’s Return in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Is Exciting but That Blows Jennifer Carpenter Case Wide Open
Image
John Lithgow has become a memorable part of the Dexter-verse, taking on the role of Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer, in the original series. And now his return in the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection has been highly anticipated, alongside Michael C. Hall’s titular vigilante serial killer.

Lithgow has reflected on his return, suggesting he’ll appear as a phantom. While the possibilities surrounding the Trinity Killer’s return are exciting, it also raises a compelling question about the absence of a significant character, Debra Morgan.

John Lithgow spilled exciting details about his return to Dexter: Resurrection

John Lithgow has portrayed one of the most evil and cunning antagonists in Showtime’s Dexter, the Trinity Killer, elevating Season 4 to a high point in the series’ long run.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Won’t Bring Back Jennifer Carpenter but the Story Can Still Honor Her With a Forgotten Character
Image
There are very few characters who’ve left an impact quite as lasting as Debra Morgan in the twisted world of Dexter. Played to perfection by Jennifer Carpenter, Debra was the emotionally complex, sharp-tongued sister of Dexter Morgan. Deb essentially served as the original series’ emotional anchor. As Dexter: Resurrection gets ready for release in 2025, fans are eager to see familiar faces return.

While it’s been confirmed we won’t be seeing Deb hurling her signature foul-mouthed comments in the upcoming series, her absence in no way means her presence will vanish. The reboot series has the golden opportunity to honor Deb’s legacy by bringing back a character closely connected to her past: Detective Joseph Quinn. His return holds the power to righteously serve as the emotional core we didn’t know we needed.

Quinn’s return would serve as a tribute to Jennifer Carpenter’s character

‘Dexter: Resurrection’: Jennifer Carpenter Not Returning Is a Bummer but I Have an Idea What’s Happening
Image
Jennifer Carpenter has always been a central figure in the Dexter universe, portraying Debra Morgan. Her absence from the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection is sure to disappoint fans, but it may also affect Dexter himself, potentially opening the door to intriguing plot developments.

Debra shared a deep, complicated bond with Dexter and met a tragic end in the original series finale. She returned in New Blood as a manifestation of Dexter’s inner voice, replacing the role once filled by Harry. However, Carpenter has stated that she’s not particularly interested in returning for Resurrection, making her absence both notable and narratively significant.

How might Debra’s absence affect Dexter in Dexter: Resurrection?

After playing Debra Morgan for 8 seasons in the original series and reprising her role in Dexter: New Blood, Jennifer Carpenter has confirmed that she won’t be returning for Dexter: Resurrection.

'Harry Potter's John Lithgow "Curious" To Speak to J.K. Rowling About Trans Backlash
Image
Incoming Harry Potter actor John Lithgow says he wasn't prepared for the backlash he received after joining the cast of HBO's new series, and that he's "curious" to have a conversation with J.K. Rowling about it all. Lithgow has been tapped to play Albus Dumbledore in the fresh adaptation of Rowling's novels, which is set to hit the small screen next year. The series is drawing the ire of many in a way the films never did, thanks to Rowling's outspoken views on the transgender community, which date as far back as 2020.

Speaking with The Times of London about his portrayal of antisemitic children's author Roald Dahl in the stage play, Giant, the subject of Harry Potter inevitably came up. How could it not? Lithgow's appearance in the project has been garnering a ton of attention because, as he put it, it's probably "the last major role" he'll ever play.

I Love John Lithgow’s Dumbledore Casting but HBO Might Be Making the Same Mistake That Ruined the Movies
Image
Okay, Potterheads, it’s high time we talk about HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot and John Lithgow’s casting in the role of the Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Well, the man has the perfect wise old wizard energy, and I can totally picture him in the iconic purple robes, dropping cryptic lines like, “Alas, earwax”. But I’m also conflicted.

I feel like HBO might be repeating history like Warner Bros. Considering how John Lithgow is currently 79 years old, and the legendary Richard Harris was 72 when he passed away, leaving us to adjust to Michael Gambon’s very aggressive Dumbledore, I think the same fate might befall the Harry Potter reboot.

'Dexter: Resurrection' Adds Another Familiar Name in Jimmy Smits
Image
It's been three years since we last saw Michael C. Hall as our beloved vigilante serial killer in Dexter: New Blood, and while he made a brief appearance at the beginning of Original Sin, Dexter: Resurrection will feature his full-time return to the character first made famous in the novels by Jeff Lindsay. This time around, Hall will be joined by a lot of fresh names, but we now know of another familiar face from the original series that will also be along for the ride: Jimmy Smits.

Per Deadline, Smits will reprise his role of Miguel Prado, despite Dexter killing him in the Season 3 episode "The Damage a Man Can Do." At first a friend to Dexter who knew of his Dark Passenger, Prado's own lust for revenge clouded his decision-making as things progressed, leading to the Assistant District Attorney finding himself wrapped in plastic on Dexter's kill table.

Lithgow starred as serial killer Arthur Mitchell, better known as the Trinity Killer, in the fourth season of “Dexter” and made a cameo in “Dexter: New Blood.” Smits played Season 3 antagonist Miami Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado.

Dexter Morgan is alive!

The 2021 revival series Dexter: New Blood ended with everyone's favorite serial killer being apparently murdered by his son, Harrison. However, the 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Dexter survived the shooting and was rushed to the hospital, where the emergency room doctors worked their magic on him. "I've experienced death so many times, but never my own," Michael C. Hall's titular character said in voice-over. "Ahh, a beating heart. I'll take it."

That brings us to Dexter: Resurrection, which has a release date of Summer 2025 on Paramount+ and Showtime. Production began in January 2025 in New York, with Hall back as the former blood spatter analyst who's now living on the run after being outed as a serial killer known as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

The original Dexter series aired for eight seasons on Showtime between 2006 and 2013, winning four Emmy Awards along the way for...

John Lithgow Did Not Think 'Shrek' Was Going to Be a Big Thing
Image
John Lithgowhas made a name for himself by playing memorable characters like Winston Churchill in The Crown, Dick Solomon in 3rd Rock From the Sun, and Arthur Mitchell in Dexter. While his face is instantly recognizable, his voice is also a unique part of his identity, and the proof is in 2001's animated film Shrek. When viewers saw Shrek, many recognized Eddie Murphy as the voice of Donkey, and some were also quick to recognize Lithgow as the voice of the villainous tyrant Lord Farquaad. Although the character made quite an impression in the movie, the actor admits that he didn't think the movie was going to that big a deal. He thought he was giving voice to a "Saturday morning cartoon."

Lithgow is in the spotlight nowadays because of his confirmed participation in the Harry PotterTV reboot. He's set to play Hogwarts' headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the series. Overnight,...

The Trinity Killer's Return In Dexter Sequel Show Explained By John Lithgow
Image
The Trinity Killer's surprise return in Dexter: Resurrection gets a new explanation from John Lithgow. After the success of creator Clyde Phillips' original Dextershow, Michael C. Hall returned as the titular serial killer in Dexter: New Blood in 2021, 8 years after the divisive season 8 finale. Now, Hall is reprising his role as the character once more in the Dexter: Resurrection sequel show, which will feature the return of some familiar cast members, including David Zayas as Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer.

In a recent interview with Variety, Lithgow confirms that viewers shouldn't expect to see the Trinity Killer beyond a brief cameo in Dexter: Resurrection. The actor reveals that he returned for only one day of filming, with his character appearing as a "phantom" to Dexter as he awakens in the hospital. Check out Lithgow's...

Image
John Lithgow has teased how his character will return from death in the new Dexter series. Lithgow played the Trinity Killer in the fourth season of the original Showtime TV series.

Speaking with Variety, Lithgow shared that his appearance on the new Dexter show won't be a major one. "I just went back to do a day," he said. "They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of ‘Dexter.’ And it turns out he didn’t die after all. I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed." Lithgow appeared as Arthur Mitchell, the Trinity Killer who pretended to be a family man in Dexter. However, his character ultimately met his end when pursued by Dexter (Michael C. Hall), the show's titular vigilante serial killer.

Why Rita Died in Dexter, Explained
Image
Following Dextersequel series, currently in development, showrunners are preparing another spin-off: a prequel about the Trinity Killer, reminding viewers of the original show's most impactful moment: Rita Morgan's death. Dexter's original series finale was famously controversial. However, several seasons before the serial killer drama's conclusion, another contentious ending rocked its audience.

The events of the Dexter Season 4 finale aggravated more than a few viewers — for understandable reasons. Dexter's kind-hearted wife, Rita Morgan (Julie Benz), was murdered by the most notorious villain ever to appear in the Showtime series. Plenty of critics and viewers praised the episode, entitled "The Getaway." But many fans were upset about the message sent by Rita's death. And, to make matters worse, the reason why the series killed Rita off reinforced a harmful TV trope. Years later, Rita is barely even mentioned in the new Dexter spin-offs, while the Trinity Killer is getting his own prequel spin-off.

Rumors began circulating about John Lithgow’s casting in the series in the role of Albus Dumbledore. While HBO hasn’t officially confirmed any updates regarding Lithgow’s rumored role, the show would have to break a major pattern of the movies to realize this casting.

While Lithgow is more than capable of starring in the role given his vast experience, he is still an American actor. Earlier, Harry Potter movies exclusively preferred British actors in different roles. The film franchise once rejected the legendary Robin Williams due to this reason.

John Lithgow shares his advice for the actor who will play the young Trinity Killer in prequel series
John Lithgow at an event for The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards (2010)
The fourth season of the Showtime series Dexter saw the title character, a serial killer who targets other killers, going up against a homicidal creep called the Trinity Killer, played by John Lithgow. A family man with a wife and two kids (their home life isn’t as happy as it appears), the Trinity Killer (a.k.a. Arthur Mitchell) would regularly commit cycles of murders that saw him slit a woman’s wrists in her a bathtub, make another woman jump to her death, and bludgeon a man. At first, it was believed he would kill three people each cycle, thus his nickname, but it was later revealed that there was a fourth kill to each cycle: the burial of a young boy. Lithgow did such a great job playing this despicable character, he won an Emmy for it. And we haven’t seen the last of Arthur Mitchell.

The success of the Dexter franchise doesn’t seem to be slowing down with the recent record-breaking premiere of Dexter: Original Sin. A Trinity Killer prequel is reportedly in development that will focus on the Arthur character made famous by John Lithgow in Season 4 of Dexter. Hidden Dexter: Original Sin Callback Perfectly Sets Up The Next Dexter Prequel Show About John Lithgow’s Iconic Villain
Image
Dexter: Original Sin gives more of a background to Dexter Morgan, one of the best TV antiheroes of all time. Now, Dexter's most iconic villain may get his own, much-anticipated spin-off series. While each season of the original Dexter TV show had its own "big bad," few are more memorable or chilling than Arthur Mitchell, a.k.a. The Trinity Killer, played by John Lithgow. Of all the villains in Dexter, The Trinity Killer appeared to be the only one who was able to get to Dexter, killing Rita in one of the best Dexter episodes of all time.

The scene in which Dexter finds Rita's lifeless body makes her one of the most heartbreaking deaths in Dexter, and it became clear that The Trinity Killer was not long for the series, as Dexter vowed revenge. Still, his eventual death at Dexter's hands disappointed many reviewers who would...

How Many People Has Dexter Morgan Killed?
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Dexter" and "Dexter: New Blood."

"Tonight's the night. And it's gonna happen again and again. Has to happen." These opening lines grace the pilot episode of "Dexter," in which blood splatter specialist Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) drives around while being on the prowl. What sets this show apart from most police procedurals is its upfront positioning of Dexter as a morally complex figure, a killer who (mostly) murders other killers who have managed to escape the justice system. However, this moral positioning starts to unravel once his meticulous plans start spiraling out of control and jeopardizing the faux-identity he has painstakingly crafted over the years. This tension between our intimate knowledge of Dexter's skewed vigilantism and the escalating suspicion about his crimes grants "Dexter" the edge required to become the tense, thrilling character-focused procedural that it is.

That said, even the best shows lose their way,...

Second Dexter Prequel Show Focused On Trinity Killer Gets First Positive Update, Including John Lithgow's Involvement
Image
The Dexter Trinity Killer prequel series comes closer to fruition with a new development update. Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), the titular character of the acclaimed franchise, is a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and secretly operates as a vigilante killer who targets other murderers. The prequel will explore the origins of Lithgow's Arthur Mitchell, Dexter's most devastating adversary who earned his nickname due to a pattern of three murders inspired by traumatic events from his childhood in Dexter season 4.

According to Deadline, the scripts for the Trinity Killer prequel have already been written after original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and series writer Scott Reynolds held a development meeting for the series earlier this year. Phillips shared that John Lithgow, who won a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award for his gripping performance as Mitchell, has agreed to lend his voice to the younger version of his troubled character,...

‘Dexter’ Trinity Killer Prequel Moving Along With Clyde Phillips & Scott Reynolds As Co-Creators; More Details Revealed
Image
Exclusive: The Dexter Trinity Killer prequel series, following the makings of the notorious serial killer played by John Lithgow in the mothership series, remains “in development” at Paramount+ with Showtime and has come a long way since it was originally announced in early 2023 as being in the exploration stages, sources close to production tell Deadline.

Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and fellow Dexter veteran Scott Reynolds serve as co-creators and executive producers of the Trinity Killer spinoff prequel, we hear. They held a development room for the project earlier this spring. As scripts were being written, there were erroneous media reports that the project was not moving forward which was never the case, sources said.

Phillips shared an update on the Trinity Killer offshoot with Deadline while promoting Dexter: Original Sin in New York City earlier this month.

“We wrote the entire Trinity Killer series. At the moment, it is on the back burner,...

How ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Connects to the Original Series
Image
Showtime's Dexter: Original Sin premiered on December 13, 2024, returning the titular serial killer after an 11-year TV absence. In addition to Michael C. Hall returning to voice his most well-known fictional role thus far in his career, several original characters from Showtime's hit crime thriller series are poised to return. However, there's a catch. The characters will be much younger than their original counterparts, calling to question how Original Sin narratively connects with the original Dexter TV series.

While clues are found in the show's spoiling subtitle, detailing how Original Sin fits within the overarching Dexter universe will help clarify the new spin-off's intentions and motives. It's also worth explaining how Michael C. Hall will expand on his multiple Emmy-nominated performance as the most charming and beloved serial killer on television. Here's how Original Sin ties into the original Dexter TV series.

Dexter Morgan Was Inspired By A Real-Life Killer: True Story Explained
Image
Dexter Morgan, a fictional serial killer, was inspired by real-life murderer Pedro Rodrigues Filho. Both characters share similar themes of dark urges, revenge, and societal benefit through their actions. The TV series Dexter is loosely based on Filho's crimes, with significant differences in plot and character details.

Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan in the series Dexter was inspired by a real-life murderer. The acclaimed Showtime series follows a charismatic serial killer who works as a blood splatter analyst for Miami Metro Police. The intriguing premise was first featured in a novel titled Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, published in 2004. Two years later, Showtime made the narrative into a 12-episode season in 2006. The show went on to produce 96 episodes over eight seasons, as well as one spinoff series titled Dexter: New Blood.

Despite Dexter being inspired by a real-life murderer, it is still considered a completely original narrative and a work of fiction.
