Out of the roughly 350 million books that Stephen King has sold throughout his career, the 1138 pages he wrote about an evil, trans-dimensional clown may encompass his most famous, lasting work. Stephen King's 1986 novel "It," for its overwhelming length and chronological sprawl, centers on a very simple and basic horror premise: clowns are terrifying. Perhaps there was a time in his planet's history when pale-faced, blue-haired ghouls with painted-on smiles and gin blossom encrusted noses were considered charming and delightful, but anyone who recalls that time died over a century ago. In 2022, many might readily agree that clumsy, "comedic" traditional circus buffoons are now merely greasy, manic, and threatening.

The monster in King's novel was an impossibly ancient shape-shifting Lovecraftian space deity that fed on human fear, with the ability to read human minds and manifest what they were most afraid of. Perhaps instinctually, the universal fear shape that this creature elected to take was that of a clown. It gave itself the name of Pennywise, and would hibernate in the sewers under Derry, Me, awakening every 27 years to frighten and eat children.

As a documentary filmmaker and archivist, I rely on a few critical things when putting together a new film project. The first thing is patience; finding rare and rarely seen materials is often a marathon, not a sprint. The other thing I rely on is the cooperation from and collaboration with the holders of said rare material. That's what beloved actor Tim Curry told Fangoria Magazine in 1990, and it would only be confirmed over the following decades. He's played professional pirates and sinister clergymen, calculating butlers, and the sexiest mound of crooning toxic sludge in cinema history. He would gain fame playing a transvestite scientist in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" in 1975, reprising the role of Dr. Frank-n-Furter from previous musical stage productions. The majority of parts played by Curry are ones prone to excess, but few are wilder than the shapeshifting, child-eating entity Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's "It."

Before there was the popular two-part horror film franchise “It,” a 1990 mini-series featuring Tim Curry as the child-eating clown Pennywise scared the bejesus out of a generation of television watchers.

“Pennywise: The Story of It,” offers up a behind-the-scenes look at the making of that earlier adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, which has achieve cult classic status over subsequent decades. The documentary will receive its world premiere on Oct. 15 at The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.

The film, which is co-directed by John Campopiano (“Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary”; “Snapper: The Man-Eating Turtle Movie That Never Got Made”) and Christopher Griffiths, was several years in the making and includes interviews with many of the key players. After years in the making, the long-awaited RoboCop documentary has finally wrapped filming. That's not all, as the filmmakers behind RoboDoc: The Creation of Robocop have announced that none other than Peter Weller, the original actor who brought the character to life, will be featured in the movie. They have even released a brief clip teasing the interview.

RoboDoc will feature what is described as a "lengthy interview" with Peter Weller. The brief clip sees Weller sitting down for the chat. The actor also helps to announce the doc's forthcoming release, which is expected to happen soon now that everything is in the can. The filmmakers made the announcement on Twitter, saying the following alongside the release of the clip.

Exclusive: Following a long journey to screen, RoboCop deep-dive documentary RoboDoc has wrapped filming after securing a lengthy interview with the original film’s star Peter Weller.

RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop will chart the story behind Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 cult classic, including interviews with key creatives and producers. Today, we can reveal a promo clip.

Like many of you, I grew up with the 1990 TV adaptation of Stephen King's It in my life. I loved that two-part movie and it scared the shit out of a whole generation of kids! Well, there’s a documentary coming that dives into the making of that adaptation called Pennywise: The Story of It and it looks like it will be filled with all kinds of fun stories about the making of the film.

The doc will include 50 interviews with the cast and crew of the film along with over 700 never-before-seen photos from the production and of course there will be rare footage and photos from the set. Jennifer Garner is out for justice in Peppermint.

The 46-year-old actress stars in the new action movie about a mom who pits herself against a drug cartel after her family is murdered. When the corrupt justice system fails to convict their killers, Garner’s Riley North disappears — only to come back on the 5th anniversary of her family’s death to enact her brutal revenge.

“I will kill every one of you, and then I’ll pretty much wing it from there,” her character says near the end of the trailer.

Tim Curry was perfect as Pennywise the Clown in ABC's TV movie adaption of Stephen King's It. I love the book and I'm a fan of the original film. Here you have another Scream Factory title, which will be judged a little harsher than usual. MGM recently released its own Blu-ray version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and for the most part, it was just fine. In addition to the MGM Region A release, there was also an Arrow Video-released Region B Blu-ray, which most fans have considered the “definitive edition” until now. I have nothing but respect for Arrow Video. They are basically the Criterion of B-movies right now. But I think this new TCM Blu-ray may just trump their excellent release, at least ever-so-slightly in the Pq department. As for the movie itself, I’m a big fan, always have been. I know it’s a divisive title among fans because it abandoned the relentlessly terrifying tone of the first movie, and opted for a more humorous approach, but it’s utterly fascinating. This third week of April has some exciting home entertainment offerings for us genre fans, including the special edition releases of two cult classics I adore, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and The Stuff. An indie film I’ve been hearing about for a while now, Grimewave, also makes its way to DVD this Tuesday and while it may not be traditional horror, Oscar-winner The Revenant certainly has enough badassery contained within its cinematic frames to be worthy of mentioning this week, and it arrives on both Blu-ray and DVD on April 19th.

Other notable releases this week include Smothered (which features a ton of horror icons and was directed by John Schneider of Smallville and Dukes of Hazzard fame), 15 Till Midnight, Classroom 6, Ip Man 3, German Angst and She Wolf Rising.

There are certain movies that, as you are witnessing them for the first time, feel like something of an event, and that is precisely my experience with Stephen King’s It, which first aired on ABC in November 1990. I can remember everything about watching both installments—how terrified I was of Tim Curry as Pennywise, how much I genuinely loved those kids and how awesome it was to see one of my favorite actors, John Ritter, show up in a horror movie (based on a Stephen King novel nonetheless). It was a landmark in many regards, but to me, as a fan, it's monumental because it truly was one of the first things I ever saw air on network television that genuinely scared the hell out of me.

Men in Black III, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Fantastic Four are big time films that make-up/visual effects artist Bart J. Mixon has had a hand in. His name doesn’t jump out at you like Rob Bottin and Rick Baker, but the man is one of the best in the business. Today we go old school with Bart and look at the southern fried zombie flick The Supernaturals.

Jason Bene: The field of special make-up FX took off in the 80′s. How did you start out in the business?

Bart J. Mixon: I started out as a fan doing make-ups on myself and friends in Houston, Texas, in the ‘70’s. I was a member of a comic book club (the Hcca) and one of the other members new some very basic information on make-up effects – taking life casts with plaster, slip latex casting, etc. – so I...

The first time I saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was on a double bill with The Funhouse in the early 80′s. It was the first time I thought a film was real. The documentary style felt authentic, and the unrelenting terror left me shaking in my boots. Over a decade after making his masterpiece of horror, Tobe Hooper decided it was time to revisit Leatherface with an over-the-top sequel that left a lot of fans scratching their heads. I got it from day one; it was a slapstick comedy that was a parody of the ’74 trendsetter. No doubt the original is more accomplished, but it does not have much repeat value for me.

The 1980′s began with down and dirty horror films that raised the violence bar to all new heights, but in no time they started to wear thin. Humor was inserted into the genre in 1985 and the horror-comedy...

Warner Bros. has released the full press kit for director Samuel Bayer’s A Nightmare on Elm Street remake that stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. While some of the images have already been released, you’ll find a ton of new ones after the jump. If you’ve been reading Collider for awhile, you know last June I got to visit the set of director Samuel Bayer’s A Nightmare on Elm Street while the production was filming in Chicago. I was invited - along with a few other online journalists - to watch a night of filming and also participate in roundtables interviews with Jackie Earle Haley, and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. With the film getting released on April 30, Warner Bros. has released us from our embargo, and I can now post my complete set report.

Since I always like to give options, I’m providing two ways to get the info. The first is by reading about it…and the other is by watching a video blog I did with Peter from Slashfilm. Since Peter went on a different day, we have different takes on what it was like to go to set.

Actress Scout Taylor-Compton (Laurie Strode) has checked in from the Georgia set of Rob Zombie's untitled Halloween sequel with a 6-minute video blog. The clip (which you can see below) features some familar faces, including writer/director Rob Zombie, Margot Kidder, FX artists Wayne Toth and Bart Mixon, Brea Grant, Angela Trimbur, and more all appearing to have a great time shooting the film.

The film Hellboy 2: The Golden Army owes its look in large part to Spectral Motion, the Los Angeles-based shop that specializes in the design and creation of cinematic effects, special make-up effects, animatronics and action props. Spectral Motion owner and CEO Mike Elizalde and a panel of artists who worked on the film.Mark Setrakian, Bart Mixon, Thom Floutz, Matt Rose and Chad Waters.will discuss their experiences onstage with Make-up Artist writer Joe Nazzaro at the International Make-up Artist Trade Show, held June 21-22 in Los Angeles.
