Hong Kong immigrant filmmaker Wayne Wang is best known for films like his indie breakout “Chan Is Missing” or his break into Hollywood filmmaking with Amy Tan’s “Joy Luck Club” adaptation. But he stoked controversy in 1990 when his crime drama “Life Is Cheap… But Toilet Paper Is Expensive” earned an X rating from the then-mpaa.

Its distributor rejected that rating and released it unrated, with critics including Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert applauding that decision and praising its merits as greater than the sum of its controversies. Still, the film’s graphic footage, while politically motivated, subverts audience expectations of sex and violence.

Structured around a neo-noir set-up — smoky rooms, mob bosses, and a femme fatale abound — “Life Is Cheap” melds guerrilla docu-fiction with political urgency. Just a couple of days back, we had reported that the Azhar star Emraan Hashmi would soon be turning producer. Well now we hear that Emraan who has already commenced work on his debut production venture has roped in the Fast & Furious cinematographer Amir Mokri for his film. ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ review: Michael Bay’s latest ‘Transformers’ movie is ‘the least aggravating of a very aggravating lot’ (photo: Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’) Suffice it to say, there are many special effects in the Transformers movies of which Transformers: Age of Extinction is the latest and, get ready for some high praise, the least aggravating of a very aggravating lot. In fact, its greatest special effect, much like the previous three films, is its ability to deflect all criticism; these movies are not just critic proof, they’re quality proof. As long as the Autobots or Decepticons or emoticons or Comic-Cons or whatever they’re called keep laying waste to cities and brain cells, its target audience of global fanboys and Viacom shareholders will be sated and the rest of us can go down with the ship watching some arthouse limited release.

When "Man of Steel" was released this past summer, it didn't feature a key member of director Zack Snyder's creative brain trust: cinematographer Larry Fong, a contemporary of J.J. Abrams' (they grew up together) who furnished Snyder with the almost plastic visuals for "300," "Watchmen" and "Sucker Punch." Fong was replaced by "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" cinematographer Amir Mokri, but that appears to have been a blip: Fong is back for the still-untitled "Man of Steel" sequel that will pit Batman against Superman in a no-holds-barred superhero rumble. And if you like superheroes coming together, wait for the story about how Wolverine was almost in "Spider-Man." Yes, it seems Snyder is in the process of assembling his creative team for the superhero sequel, which begins shooting next year in Detroit. The shoot should last from February until August (good lord), with Snyder directing from another script by David S. Goyer.

According to Super Hero Hype, director Zack Snyder will be reuniting with an old friend for the still-untitled "Man of Steel" sequel. It looks like Larry Fong, cinematographer on previous Snyder films "300," "Watchmen," and "Sucker Punch," will once again turn his eye towards superheroes with 2015's Superman and Batman slug-and/or-hugfest.

This marks one of the first major changes for the sequel, considering that both "Man of Steel's" director (Snyder) and screenwriter (David Goyer) are back for more. Fong, who also acted as director of photography for J.J. Abrams' "Super 8" and this summer's big surprise hit "Now You See Me," replaces "Man of Steel" cinematographer Amir Mokri. Mokri is currently working on "Transformers: Age of Extinction," which could be taking up the bulk of his schedule at the moment.

Whatever your thoughts on "Watchmen," you have to admit that it did look really really good.

While we don't have any new information as to the plot of Zack Snyder's follow-up to Man of Steel, we do have an idea of what it will look like as it's being reported that cinematographer Larry Fong will reunite with Snyder for the picture.  Fong has collaborated wtih Snyder on 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch, even though the Man of Steel honor went to Amir Mokri (Fong was likely working on Now You See Me during the shoot).  This news is unconfirmed for the moment, but a Cs contributor dug up Fong's resume (which oddly seems to be a broken link now) that listed Batman vs. Superman as his next project. Ben Affleck will star as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Henry Cavill, who reprises his role as Clark Kent/Superman.  Also returning are Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.  The sequel opens July 17, 2015.

Although this has not been confirmed by Warner Bros., cinematographer Larry Fong has reportedly signed on to serve as director of photography on Man of Steel 2 (a.k.a. Batman vs. Superman). The news comes from Larry Fong's updated resume at Worldwide Production Agency, which lists the project as his latest feature.

Larry Fong previously worked with director Zack Snyder on 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch. His other credits include Cape of Good Hope, Super 8 and this year's heist thriller Now You See Me. Amir Mokri (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) served as cinematographer on this summer's Man of Steel.

Zack Snyder is directing Man of Steel 2 from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent) are reprising their roles from the summer blockbuster, with Ben Affleck signing on last month to play Batman.

It seems Amir Mokri (Transformers: Dark Of The Moon) won't be returning to shoot Man Of Steel 2, as cinematographer Larry Fong's resume at Worldwide Production Agency has been updated to include his involvement in Zack Snyder's Superman Vs Batman themed sequel to this year's Supes reboot. Of the many, many blockbusters due to hit screens next summer, Transformers 4 is, without a doubt, one of the biggest.

Having got the green light from Paramount to helm this year’s hit, Pain & Gain, Michael Bay has in turn returned to the helm for the fourth instalment in the franchise, and he’s assembled a stellar new cast to do it with.

Mark Wahlberg is reuniting with his Pain & Gain helmer for the upcoming Transformers 4, and Bay took to his site last week to share the first official photo from the set, sharing a glimpse at Wahlberg alongside co-star Jack Reynor and a handful of the crew, including Bay himself.

Little is known about the plot, but it is known that the sequel will take place four years on from the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and that it will be the launching point for a new trilogy.

What… no photo bombing by Optimus Prime?

Now, we have the first official picture from Transformers 4, which will attempt to reboot the franchise by focusing around a new group of human characters. Replacing Shia Labeouf this time around is Mark Wahlberg, who will portray Flynn Vincent, a single father and inventor caught up in all kinds of robot carnage when he makes a startling discovery.

Big news for longtime Transformers fans. A report has surfaced revealing that scenes involving the Dinobots are shooting today at McCormick Park in Chicago, which will mark their first appearance on the big screen in this franchise. This lines up with a report from May that revealed the Dinobots will be a part of this particular story. Though, neither Paramount nor Michael Bay have confirmed this to be true.

We've seen car photos and some set photos, but Michael Bay has now posted the first official still from the upcoming fourth "Transformers" film. The shot features Bay himself, actors Jack Reynor and Mark Wahlberg, and various crew members including cinematographer Amir Mokri.

The shot comes as a report at Coming Soon is that scenes rumoured to be involving Dinobot Transformers will be shot around Chicago’s McCormick Square around about now.

"Just Another Day On The Set Of Transformers 4" reads the headline on MichaelBay.com that accompanies this new "Transformers" set photo. No word if Bay's Superman pose is a reference to "Man of Steel" or just part of that "just another day" mentality.

James Mangold’s The Wolverine is the first X-Men movie I can heartily recommend without any major reservations.

Given the sheer magnitude of this series in modern popular culture, I am surprised to see myself writing those words, but when I look back at everything the film franchised has produced thus far, I see myself frequently on the edge of satisfaction, without ever once going all the way over. The original Bryan Singer films are good, X2 in particular, but every time I revisit them, I find they hold up less and less; they were absolutely revolutionary for their time, and no one can deny the iconic excellence of the ensemble, but Singer’s movies are uneven and overstuffed, and that only becomes more obvious with the more terrific superhero films we have now to compare them to.

But The Last Stand is, of course, where the real trouble started.

Before Man of Steel, the most interesting non-comics Superman stories have been told in animation. They capture his essence, the magnificence, and power of the character without the limitations of live-action. Even though there was a Warner Bros. television series about his childhood in Smallville and his exploits at the Daily Planet with Lois & Clark, the versions of Superman in both were written to reach a mainstream audience. Thankfully, Man of Steel ditches these aspects of the lore and the compromises made in this reboot help keep the focus on Superman’s emergence and determining how best to take that route, since mankind does not take kindly to anything it doesn’t know or understand. The purpose of this re-imagined origin is to tell the story of an alien attempting to live up to becoming the man his two fathers (and two mothers) believed he would be.

I have seen the future of blockbuster cinema, and the future is Man of Steel.

When audiences flock to theatres this Friday, they will be treated to an experience absolutely unlike anything they have ever seen before. This is not hyperbole. On every level, in every way, by every critical criterion I have to judge the effectiveness of film, and every benchmark of spectacle and wonder I have experienced in my time reviewing movies, Man of Steel is completely, utterly singular. I have never seen anything like it. Production begins on The Wolverine in Sydney on July 31 -- that is, on a Tuesday in two weeks -- with Hugh Jackman starring in the title role.

Logan/Wolverine travels to Japan to train with a Samurai warrior in this new episode, the sixth outing for Jackman as this character, although he only had a cameo in X-Men: First Class.

New images have been released from the upcoming action-thriller Season of the Witch. The film was originally slated to be released this past March, but was yanked at the last minute and is now scheduled to come out on January 7, 2011. The story centers on 14th-century knights (played by Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman) who must transport a suspected witch (Claire Foy) to a monastery.
