Jason Momoa may have a fierce, intimidating presence on screen, but in reality, he’s the complete opposite: warm, kind, and far from the dangerous persona his roles might suggest. An example of his kindness is when he came through for his Game of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke, whom he adorably still calls his on-screen wifey.
Clarke and Momoa famously appeared as the couple, Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo. The HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series did not hold back on n*dity, violence, and gore from the get-go. The Me Before You actress was fairly new to the TV scene when she landed the role of Daenerys, which required her to do n*de scenes with Jason Momoa.
During her appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, Clarke recalled how Momoa came to her aid and made sure she was comfortable on the set.

The Streamable’s experts rank the top shows currently available to stream today.
Just about everything in the television and entertainment industries has changed in the past five to 10 years. Not too long ago, the month of September was focused almost exclusively on the return of football and the launch of a new, robust slate of TV shows. However, as cord-cutting rapidly decreased the number of Americans watching television in traditional ways, the release calendar has shifted. So while there are still a number of new and returning shows premiering on broadcast channels during the back half of the month, it is nowhere near the numbers of decades past.
Many of the best titles on TV have migrated from networks and cable channels to streaming in recent years, but with the non-standard release schedules, it can be tough to keep up with what is airing where and when, and which shows are actually worth watching.

It was not a surprise to anyone that this summer’s Superman has proven to be a big hit for the struggling DC film series. The James Gunn reboot seems to have struck a chord with its lighter tone and fun atmosphere than the previous films in the Snyderverse films. They hope to keep that momentum by bringing in the Woman of Steel in next year’s Supergirl. While they share a heritage, she has an entirely different attitude from her famous cousin. What should we expect from the next offering from the Dcu?
Who’s In It? Milly Alcock
As seen at the end of Superman, Milly Alcock will play the Dcu’s version of Supergirl. This take seems to be edgier than we have seen in the past. In past versions of her on screen, we have seen her have a similar story to Superman. In the comics,...

The third installment of Apple TV+’s intriguing historical drama, Chief of War, starring Jason Momoa, continues to explore the separate story paths of Ka'iana and Ka'ahumanu.
Ka'iana, rescued by the English, is now aboard the ship heading for Alaska. One of his shipmates, Tony, teaches him English and about guns and weaponry. Ka'iana is fascinated by the guns but doesn’t understand their power until he goes hunting in Alaska and shoots an elk.
From Alaska, the English ship travels to Zamboanga in the Spanish East Indies (present-day Philippines). Ka'iana has a plan to buy several guns to take back to Hawai’i to fight Kahekili, but quickly finds out that he doesn’t have nearly enough money.

Quentin Tarantino has diminished the value of Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune movies, citing the repetitive nature of remakes and reboots. However, Villeneuve couldn’t care less about the veteran filmmaker’s opinion. During an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Qt revealed:
I saw [David Lynch’s] ‘Dune’ a couple of times. I don’t need to see that story again. I don’t need to see spice worms. I don’t need to see a movie that says the word ‘spice’ so dramatically. It’s one after another of this remake and that remake.
But Villeneuve was left unimpressed by such minimization of his work. While speaking at a Q&a panel at the Concordia University film school, the director responded to Tarantino’s comments about his films with a nonchalant “I don’t care.” [The Montreal Gazette]

Dave Bautista, the former WWE champion turned Hollywood A-lister, has officially struck a multi-picture deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Deadline reports. Locking him in for high-profile projects, including the much-anticipated Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill and the action-packed Road House 2, the deal sets him up for leading roles in major franchises as he continues to move away from his WWE image.
Known to Marvel fans as Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy, Bautista’s latest career move cements his standing as one of Hollywood’s top action stars with a significant box-office pull. Meanwhile, for Amazon MGM, this move highlights the studio’s ambition to rival the blockbuster slates of Netflix, Disney, and more.

Dave Bautista is in final negotiations to play the villain in Amazon MGM’s remake of the 1980s cult classic Highlander.
The actor will join Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe in the action fantasy, which hails from Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner and is slated to get a theatrical release.
Chad Stahelski is directing the feature that is due to begin principal photography at the end of the September and shoot in locales in the UK as well as Hong Kong.
The original Highlander, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior. With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez, played by Sean Connery, the titular Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries, culminating in a modern battle in which, like the classic line of dialogue goes, “there can be only one.” The movie went back and forth...

For the past month, production has been in full swing on Dune: Part Three in Budapest, with stars Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and Jason Momoa all knee-deep in filming. Denis Villeneuve once again directs the third movie in his trilogy of films based on the books by Frank Herbert, with the third movie borrowing its premise from Dune Messiah.
While the first two Academy Award-nominated films had extensive casts with additional stars like Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, and Josh Brolin, Dune: Part Three has yet to formally confirm the full cast beyond the five stars mentioned above, as well as Ida Brooke and Jason Momoa's son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Paula and Chani's twins.

Exclusive: Sources tell us that the Dune franchise actor is closing in on two Amazon MGM Studios movies: Chad Stahelski’s Highlander which UA is also behind, and Road House 2, which Dave Bautista was also circling.
Bautista will star opposite Henry Cavill in Stahelski’s revival of the 1980s classic swordsman movie. We hear he’s playing The Kurgan, a character made famous by Clancy Brown in the original Sean Connery-Christopher Lambert film.
Kurgan was an Immortal who was a contender for The Prize — the power of all the Immortals who ever lived. During his life, Kurgan was a bad dude, killing and raping, and taking the heads of many Immortals. In the original movie, he’s a foe of Lambert’s Connor MacLeod.

History has rarely looked this raw, bloody, and beautiful. With Chief of War, Jason Momoa doesn’t just give us another period drama; he dives headfirst into the soul of Hawaiian history, peeling back the Hollywood gloss to reveal the real stories of the islands’ most powerful figures. And yes, these were real people, not just characters born in a writer’s room.
Set during the late 1700s, when alliances were shifting like tides and kings were made by the blade, the series is a gritty reimagining of the epic conflicts that shaped the Hawaiian kingdom. But beyond the battles and betrayals lies the drama of chiefs, warriors, queens, and family torn apart by ambition and loyalty.
What makes Chief of War hit harder than your usual historical drama is its devotion to cultural accuracy, from the language to rituals, and even casting choices were carefully rooted in Hawaiian authenticity.

Dune: Part Three's script gets a promising update from Josh Brolin, who addresses his character's role in the upcoming movie. After the massive success of the first and second installments in Denis Villeneuve's take on Frank Herbert's Dune, a threequel was quick to be announced.
Timothée Chalamet will return to lead the Dune: Part Three cast as Paul Atreides, with Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, and Jason Momoa all expected to return. The film, which is currently in production, is expected to hit theaters next December.
During a recent interview on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin hypes the Dune: Part Three script, saying it's "super good." Check out his comment below:

Seth Rogen's Platonic Season 2 earns a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Despite critical acclaim, Platonic ranks #2 on Apple TV+, behind Jason Momoa's Chief of War. The series focuses on the friendship between Rogen and Byrne, with a positive review from Collider's Jeff Ewing.

Tom Hanks has plenty of experience starring in WWII movies like Saving Private Ryan and Greyhound, but last year he produced a gripping WWII series that’s still a streaming hit well after its release. Both Hanks and his Saving Private Ryan director Steven Spielberg are EPs on Masters of the Air, the 2024 series starring Austin Butler (Dune: Part Two) and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts), who battle anti-aircraft fire and a flock of German soldiers. Despite releasing in January 2024, Masters of the Air is still one of the most popular shows on Apple TV+ globally, trending in the top 10 in countries such as Cambodia, Gambia, and Grenada. The series was well-liked by critics and fans, earning scores of 85% from the former and 73% from the latter on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

A couple new hits just cracked the list — here’s what made the cut.
When Apple TV+ first launched, I was more curious than confident. How was a tech giant going to compete in the prestige TV world? But a few years in, it’s clear: they’ve absolutely figured it out. The approach is obvious now… fewer shows, bigger bets, and major talent behind (and in front of) the camera. Whether it’s a smaller character study or a massive sci-fi epic, Apple’s not afraid to swing for the fences. And it’s working. I don’t churn Apple TV+. And the best part about a top 10 list for a newer streamer with a relatively lean catalog? A great new show can immediately shake things up, and that’s exactly what happened here. So if you’re wondering where to start, here’s my updated list of the...

In the likes of Dune, See, or Game Of Thrones, the outsized physicality of Jason Momoa has always been put to ferocious use. There’s a visceral strength to his every sneer or battle cry, the kind that can casually rip studio artifice asunder. It feels somehow fitting, then, that Momoa's best performance yet is based on a real-life warrior who forever changed the history of his native Hawaii, an ocean away from Hollywood.
Momoa plays Kaʻiana, a real-life Native Hawaiian warrior from history. In the opening episode, Momoa seems to be almost channelling Aquaman, leaping into the ocean and wrangling a shark, but this role is actually his best showcase yet as a dramatic actor. Torn between worlds, this statuesque mountain of a figure commands every frame, whether he’s conversing in the Ōlelo Hawai‘i native language or flinging himself into battle with only a loincloth to protect him.

Jason Momoa's new historical drama show, Chief of War, is a hit with audiences and critics alike, and the actor and series creator are speaking out about a controversial, real-life character who is depicted in the series. Momoa, who once starred in Stargate Atlantis and Game of Thrones, has been further establishing himself as a major face of television.
He has also been busy at work as a movie star. The prolific actor appeared in a leading role in this year's A Minecraft Movie, which is currently 2025's third-highest-grossing film. Temuera Morrison has been a part of the Star Wars franchise for over twenty years, most notably playing Jango Fett, the Clone Troopers, and Boba Fett, but he’s not ready to call it quits. The road to bringing the story of the history of the unification of the Kingdom of Hawaii has had a long journey. Both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa have been associated with adapting the sprawling history of the Polynesian tribes before they were colonized. Chief of War takes a deep dive into the final years of the disparate islands ruled by warring factions and how they came together under the leadership of a single ruler to become a unified nation. It is a fascinating tale delivered using authentic language, weapons, and costumes that follow in the historical record of the Hawaiian people.
Chief of War follows Ka’iana (Jason Momoa), an exiled chief who lives abroad with European sailors to garner weapons to return to his homeland to defend his people from the rampage of Kahekili (Temuera Morrison), a tribal chief who seeks to control all of the Hawaiian islands.

Alan Ritchson is hard at work filming Reacher Season 4 right now, but ahead of its arrival, the star’s biggest box office hit is tearing up streaming charts. Ritchson stars alongside Jason Statham and Vin Diesel in Fast X, the 2023 Fast & Furious movie following Dom Toretto and his family, who are the targets of a brutal vengeance campaign by drug kingpin Hernan Reyes (Jason Momoa). Fast X is streaming on Starz in the United States and on Netflix globally, but it’s quietly crept into the Starz top 10 in America, sitting at #8. The film earned scores of 56% from critics and 84% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $704 million against a $340 million budget, which makes it one of the most expensive movies ever made.
Fast X recruited plenty of stars to bring the 10th Fast & Furious movie to life beyond Ritchson, Statham, and Momoa, though.

One of the major points in the Apple TV+ show, Chief of War, is its ode to the native Hawaiian culture, and therefore keeping the show intact with the original language, rather than presenting it in English for users worldwide. The dialogues are primarily in the native Hawaiian language, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. This bold, creative decision was taken after carefully considering its impact and the aftermath thereof by both the co-creators, Thomas Paʻa Sibbett and Jason Momoa, with the latter quoting in an interview with The Wrap that,
“It was terrifying.”
The Game of Thrones star recalled further,
“Maybe 20% of the cast is fluent in the language. The rest were not, and Maori is not the same as Tahitian or Samoan. They are all separate languages, and even the ways those cultures fight and express themselves are completely different. So, even though we are all from Polynesia, it’s not easy.

To much surprise of the fans, Apple TV+‘s newly launched show, Chief of War, is mostly filmed in New Zealand. The show has aired its awe-inspiring 2 episodes on the platform on 1st August, 2025. From the beautiful-looking Hawaiian islands to telling a story that is as insightful and well-thought-out as it should be, after drawing constant comparisons with the Vikings.
Starring, co-creating, and executive produced by Jason Momoa, the show is a milestone for Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) representation on screen. Therefore, a question arises as to why a show so deeply rooted in Hawaiian history and culture was filmed predominantly in the southern part of the world. While the Chief of War did spend about a month filming in Hawaii, the bulk of the production was done in Aotearoa (New Zealand), and the reasons are primarily financial and logistical. Let’s dig deeper into it.

Can the B.O. hit the $4 billion mark this summer?
That’s the question Variety box office boss Rebecca Rubin raises on the latest episode of “Daily Variety” podcast as she analyzes the performance of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in its second weekend. The dropoff from opening weekend was big, in the 66% range. Disney and Marvel leaders were no doubt hoping the film’s audience would branch out beyond the core young male demo for superhero movies into family audiences, Rubin observes.
“Right now the box office is about 10 % ahead of last year and it’s still 23 % behind 2019, the last pre-pandemic year. And the box office has been hovering at those figures for basically all of summer, but analysts heading into summer were pretty optimistic that this was going to be only the second summer in post-covid times to hit $4 billion,” Rubin says. “The first time it did that...

In just two days, comedy icons Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are about to join forces for a heist they never asked for in The Pickup. The new action comedy casts the pair of Saturday Night Live alumni as mismatched armored truck drivers who, during what should have been a routine, if lengthy, job, are ambushed and forced into a high-risk scheme orchestrated by the criminal mastermind Zoe, played by Nope star Keke Palmer. Before their very bad day spins out of control on streaming, though, Collider is partnering with Prime Video to share an exclusive sneak peek introducing the three main characters and their clashing personalities. It serves as a behind-the-scenes preview of how the chaotic film from director Tim Story came together.

The Dcu and the MCU have always been in a cut-throat competition with their respective super-verses, and this time around, the former just might end up beating the latter tremendously with its box office performance.
This is because David Corenswet’s recently released Superman, which kickstarted James Gunn’s revamped version of the DC Universe less than a month ago, has already done wonders at the global box office. Per the latest reports, it currently stands at a whopping $551.2 million from its earnings, made on a budget of $225 million (via Box Office Mojo).
As per @CultureCrave on X, this could likely make it the first DC movie in around 17 years, since The Dark Knight from 2008, to finish as the year’s highest-grossing comic book film.

Apple TV+ has been a thing for a little over half a decade, but the streaming service has proven itself as an excellent destination for original scripted content. When the service launched with a handful of shows in 2019, it enlisted a slew of A-list actors as leads. Jason Momoa starred in one of the earliest shows on the service, See, as Baba Voss. Two years after See ended, Momoa is back on Apple TV+ with a new drama show, Chief of War. Set in precolonial Hawai'i, the epic historical drama has been a hit with viewers and critics, currently sitting at 89% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, it is the most-watched show on the streamer currently, according to FlixPatrol, beating the likes of Foundation and Smoke for the top position. Two episodes have aired so far.
Chief of War is ambitious in the story it tells and the scale at which it does.

The spectacular opening sequence of Chief of War featured a heart-stopping shark hunting expedition led by war chief Ka’iana, played by the epic Hawaiian historical drama’s co-creator, writer, director, and star Jason Momoa. Ka’iana dove solo from his group’s sailing vessel and pursued a shark underwater, holding his breath for an almost superhuman stretch. When he burst to the surface, clinging to the fin, his hunting party gasped with relief. The idea for including the pursuit of the powerful predator came from series co-creator and executive producer Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. “He showed me accounts of when the white man came, seeing Hawaiians riding sharks,” Momoa told TV Insider. (Click on the video for the full interview.) “Why wouldn’t they? Every other indigenous tribe is connected to their animals, their totems. Man and animal have always been connected. I feel like before anyone else came, they were 100% connected to their environment.

The DC Universe is expanding, with new leadership and a fresh slate of interconnected films and television shows. A significant part of this new chapter is the introduction of a new Supergirl. This version of the character promises to be a departure from previous on-screen portrayals, offering a more complex and hardened hero for audiences to discover.
This upcoming cinematic take on the iconic hero is part of a broader strategy to build a cohesive and compelling narrative across various platforms. Jason Momoa has finally gotten his passion project, the Native Hawaiian epic Chief of War, off the ground. It's now a Apple TV+ series, and audiences are tuning in.
Volcanoes proved to be a problem when filming. Momoa told all to Entertainment Weeklyabout the role the natural world played in the production. “I just knew that the volcano [Mauna Loa] was going to go off, and everybody laughed at me and didn't believe me,” Momoa said.
The actor continued on “Sure enough, the night before we went to shoot, I told Brian [Mendoza, Momoa's fellow producer], ‘Dude, the volcano's going to go off.’ He called bulls**t. About four hours later we got a call at 3 a.m., Mauna Loa went off.” This proved not to be too much of an impediment, though production had to be paused while the air quality was checked. But then... the other volcano Kīlauea also erupted.

As of August 1, seven of the total nine episodes of the Apple TV+ crime thriller Smoke have aired. The series marks the second team-up between Taron Egerton and writer Dennis Lehane, following the huge success of their previous Apple TV+ series, Black Bird. With just two episodes remaining, tensions are higher than ever, although the quality, according to fans, is not.
Compared to the near-perfect 98% score earned by Black Bird, Smoke's critics' rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes is just 71%, although it's the audience score that poses the most concern. Since its opening episode, Smoke's audience score has continued to drop, with it now falling below the 50% mark ahead of the final two episodes. Not only is this the lowest audience score in Egerton's television career, albeit from just a few small-screen projects, but it's also one of his worst scores compared to his film work. 49% is...
