Diana Gabaldon's Limited Involvement in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Prequel Series Explained
Image
The Outlander universe continues to grow on screen with the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but to what extent was author Diana Gabaldon involved in its creation? Outlander is one of the most beloved and successful examples of period romance storytelling of all time, combining real-world history with the fantastical aspects of time travel.

Where the original Outlander series focuses on 18th-century Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and WWII nurse Claire Randall's (Caitríona Balfe) century-spanning romance, Outlander: Blood of My Blood instead reveals the stories of Jamie and Claire's parents. Since their parents play a nearly non-existent role in Outlander's storytelling, they were the perfect, consequence-free subjects for a prequel series.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts was asked about Outlander author Diana Gabaldon's part in creating the story of Claire's parents and...

There’s legacy, longing, and a lot of sneaking glances through wooden fences. Here’s everything you need to know about “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” before it premieres.

How to watch ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ When: Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 at 8 p.m. Et TV: Starz Stream: Watch with a subscription to Starz. From anywhere: Watch with a subscription to a Vpn.

We finally know why Hulu's A Court of Thorns and Roses adaptation never happened
Image
Hulu's TV adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses is temporarily dead, with former showrunner Ronald D. Moore sharing why the planned series never happened.

Fantasy adaptations are as hot as ever right now, even after Prime Video canceled The Wheel of Time. It’s no wonder Hulu was eyeing a take on A Court of Thorns and Roses, one of the most popular fantasy sagas of the moment. Readers adore the books by Sarah J. Maas, which follow 19-year-old Feyre Archeron after she is brought into the faerie lands of Prythian. Feyre has to navigate both romance and survive the politics of the various faerie clans.

With five books in the saga and a sixth on its way, the series has a huge built-in fanbase that would lend itself well to a TV series. Hulu agreed, as in March 2021, they ordered a series with Moore attached, who...

4 Years Later, ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ Showrunner Reveals Why the Fantasy Never Made It to TV
Image
Months after the big-budget adaptation of one of the most addictive romantasy books,A Court of Thorns and Roses, was officially cancelled by Hulu, Outlander creator Ronald D. Moore is shedding light on why it happened. Moore was announced as co-creator of the series alongside author Sarah J. Maas back in March 2021, when fans first learned of Disney's 20th Television TV adaptation plans for Hulu. Two years later, in November, Acotar was still in development with some scripts already written; however, the following year, it was unfortunately reported not to be in active development before its official cancellation.

You may also recall that last year, Moore revealed that he was no longer involved in the Acotar adaptation, which may have caused many to lose hope in the project. The iconic screenwriter has now opened up about why the series never made it to small screens during an Sdcc interview via Swooon.

The Turmoil Behind A Court Of Thorns & Roses TV Show's Cancellation Revealed
Image
Ronald D. Moore reveals details as to why Hulu's A Court of Thorns and Roses TV series was cancelled, explaining the decision behind its shelving. A TV show adaptation for A Court of Thorns and Roses books was announced in 2021, with Moore and author Sarah J. Maas involved. However, the series' production was cancelled by Hulu in February 2025.

Speaking with Swooonduring San Diego Comic-Con, Moore explained that A Court of Thorns and Roses never came to fruition because of development issues at Disney. He cited the Covid-19 pandemic and changing leadership in the company, with him eventually departing the project due to a lack of progress:

It wasn’t really my decision. I mean, I was at Disney. I was in development. It was a chaotic period. The thing about it was [going] from Covid to the strikes to a lot of shakeup in terms of Bob Iger leaves, Bob Iger comes back,...

‘Outlander’ Star Graham McTavish Welcomes ‘Blood of My Blood’ Stars Into the Hit Show’s Universe: ‘You Won’t Be Disappointed’
Image
It would not be outlandish to say that Starz has complete faith in “Outlander.” Not only is the tentpole series gearing up for its heavily anticipated final episodes next year, but the fantasy period drama is even getting a prequel to hold audiences over until then.

“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” premiered Monday night at the Directors’ Guild of America theater complex in Hollywood, complete with a bagpipe-filled red carpet and an immersive, interactive fan experience. Plus, original series stars Graham McTavish and Sam Heughan were in attendance to help welcome the new cast into the family.

“When we started doing this, we had no conception at all. You live in a bit of a bubble when you’re making it, you’re not aware of what’s going on or what to expect. When we started, we just bonded together, hoped for the best and now 11 years later, here we are,...

6 Confirmed God of War TV Show Details That Suggest We’re in for a Brutal, Beautiful Ride
Image
The God of War franchise is one of the better parts of Sony’s PlayStation, and what’s even better is how this highly respected franchise was greenlit to be adapted as a live-action series for Amazon Prime Video. This project, without a doubt, will be one of the most ambitious game projects to ever be brought to the screen, possibly beating even the Fallout show or the Halo series.

What’s even better is how Outlander and Battlestar Galactica’s showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, is in charge, and based on his recent conversation with Collider at the San Diego Comic-Con 2025, here are 6 confirmed facts about the upcoming series that reveal why it’s going to be a hit.

God Of War Showrunner Confirms Which Video Game Timeline The Show Will Follow
Image
Prime Video's upcoming adaptation of God of War has chosen which era of Kratos' story it will depict. The God of War video games are famously split into two main eras: Kratos' time in Ancient Greek mythology and his time in Norse mythology. Prime Video's God of War adaptation was always going to have to choose which era to focus on, and that decision has already been made.

While speaking with IGN, God of War showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore confirmed that the Prime Video adaptation will focus on Kratos' time in Norse mythology, not Greek mythology.

It was just when I started watching it, I started looking at the cutscenes together, and there's so much material there, and I really responded to the characters. I responded to the story of Kratos and his son, and then they set out on this epic journey in this world...

Kratos And Atreus Are The Focus Of Amazon's God Of War TV Show According To Showrunner Ronald D. Moore
Image
Casting will be a critical element for Amazon Prime Video’s God of War series, especially when it comes to portraying Kratos.

Based on comments from showrunner Ronald D. More, it sounds like the show will largely be bypassing the Greek mythology era and diving directly into the Norse saga featured in the modern PlayStation games.

The series was officially announced in December 2022 after Sony initially teased its development during a private investor meeting in May that year.

In October 2024, Battlestar Galactica and Outlander creator Ronald D. Moore took over as showrunner following the departure of Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time), due to creative differences.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 this past weekend, Moore confirmed the series would closely follow the Norse mythology storyline, centering on the deeply emotional and action-packed journey of Kratos and Atreus.

In interviews with IGN and Collider, Moore emphasized his commitment to staying faithful...

Ronald D. Moore Believes God of War Outscales the Outlander Novels, Claims It “is a lot to digest”
Image
Ronald D. Moore doesn’t throw around compliments lightly, but the God of War live-action adaptation showrunner recently gave Cory Barlog the ultimate professional endorsement. At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Moore revealed exactly how massive the video game mythology really is by comparing it to his own acclaimed work.

Speaking to Collider about the Prime Video adaptation’s development, Moore made a startling admission about the source material’s scope:

It’s really impressive. I mean, it is like a gigantic novel, even bigger than the Outlander novels, which is a lot to digest.

That’s not casual praise coming from someone who’s spent over a decade adapting Diana Gabaldon’s sprawling time-travel saga. The Outlander series spans 9 published novels with over 6,500 pages of Celtic mythology, historical drama, and complex character development.

For Moore to admit that God of War surpasses that scope suggests the Prime Video adaptation has more source material than anyone imagined.

Ronald D. Moore Is Done With Battlestar Galactica, The Reboot Co-Creator Says: “It’s Just Asking For Failure”
Image
The developer of Battlestar Galactica’s 2004 reboot, Ronald D. Moore, has confirmed that he’s done with the franchise for good. Moore turned the sci-fi show originated by Glen A. Larson in 1978 into one of the 21st century’s most popular and acclaimed TV series, before ending it in 2009, after four seasons, a miniseries, and two small-screen movies.

Now, the writer and producer has revealed that he believes his involvement with the franchise is definitely over. Despite working on the Battlestar Galactica spinoff series Caprica after he’d brought the main show to an end, Moore doesn’t expect to return to it again.

Speaking to ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier about writing another Battlestar Galactica reboot at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 24, Moore seemed to have made up his mind. When asked about the possibility of being involved in such a reboot, he responded as follows:

How This Hit Sci-Fi Show Could Become Apple TV+’s Version Of Star Trek, Hints Creators
Image
The creators of the hit sci-fi TV show For All Mankind hint at how the ongoing series could become Apple TV+'s version of Star Trek. For All Mankind season 4 ended with the alternate history series jumping ahead another 10 years, showcasing the US' successful settlement on Mars. The series is expected to showcase humanity going even further into space.

Speaking with ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier, series co-creator Ronald D. Moore expressed interest in For All Mankind exploring some Star Trek-like ideas, such as something similar to Starfleet:

ScreenRant: Now, Ronald, I have a theory about the show. I'm sure it's not an original theory, but For All Mankind is really, really grounded. Could this be a prequel to something like a Star Trek for Apple TV+? And were you ever planning to gradually build towards that--your own version of Starfleet or a Federation-like future?

'For All Mankind's Highly Anticipated Spin-Off Sets Episode Count [Exclusive]

For All Mankind fans wondering how Apple TV+’s Soviet-set spin-off Star Citywill measure up structurally just got a clear answer from series creator Ronald D. Moore: it will indeed be 10 episodes long — just like its predecessor. Speaking with Collider's Steve Weintraub at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Moore confirmed the season’s length when asked directly if Star City would match the episode count of For All Mankind, providing a simple: “Yes."

While that part may feel familiar, don’t expect Star City to follow the same time-leaping formula. On For All Mankind, each new season jumps roughly a decade into the future, offering a sweeping view of an alternate space race. But when pressed on whether Star City would follow suit, Moore played coy:

10 Western TV Shows Better Than Yellowstone to Watch Now
Image
So Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has finally ridden off into the sunset. Kevin Costner’s John Dutton III, all gravel-voiced grit and rancher gravitas, left behind more than just a power vacuum in Montana. He left a void in our streaming queues and our hearts. And no, a dozen Sheridan spin-offs won’t quite cut it. Because if you’re aching for something that hits just as hard, or even harder, in the Western genre, you’re in for a treat.

Some of these shows are classic dusty-saddle epics; others throw lasso-sized curveballs with sci-fi twists, feminist vengeance, or steely-eyed detectives. But they all have one thing in common: they echo that thunderous energy Yellowstone fans crave.

From Robert Duvall’s swagger in Lonesome Dove to Timothy Olyphant’s lawman cool in Justified, to the almost poetic lawlessness of Deadwood, each series here offers something Yellowstone touched on but never fully mastered.

“We were never more than one script ahead”: Star Trek Legend Reveals the Absolute Hell That Was ‘The Next Generation’ Behind the Scenes
Image
Writer Ronald D. Moore, who joined Star Trek: The Next Generation in its third season, mentioned that the initial two seasons of the show were extremely dramatic behind the scenes. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the sci-fi show followed the Enterprise in its adventures across the cosmos, led by Captain Picard.

While the show became much more successful than its predecessor, Tos, it was only by its third season that the series found its footing. Moore mentioned that the first two seasons were filled with friction between the writers and Roddenberry, and the chaos affected the production cycle. Moore said (via The Sackhoff Show),

The cynics were like, ‘Yeah, well, it’s all good until it all blows up, kid.’…it was just like, ‘Okay, here we go.’ But you were also in this hand-to-mouth thing…we were never caught up. We were never more than one script ahead. We were...

Scarlett Johansson Speaks About Difficulties Adapting 'Tower of Terror'
Image
Scarlett Johansson is facing some trouble adapting the popular Disney ride, Tower of Terror, for the big screen. Johnasson was first confirmed to be working as a producer on a new Tower of Terror film in 2021. Development on the project was briefly halted following the highly publicized lawsuit with Disney, which stemmed from their decision to release Black Widow on streaming. However, since the settlement, development has resumed. It has been four years since the film was announced, and there has seemingly been no word on the film.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Johansson revealed that, despite the Twilight Zone-inspired ride having lore, turning that into a feature film is a little more troublesome. Josh Cooley, director of Toy Story 4 and Transformers One, was hired to pen the script. The ride's pre-show does feature a setup of five hotel guests getting stuck in another dimension after a lightning bolt hits the tower,...

‘Outlander’ Prequel ‘Blood of My Blood’ Nabs Early Season 2 Renewal at Starz
Image
Starz is keeping its Outlander franchise alive for another season.

The newly independent cable and streaming outlet has ordered a second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel to its long-running drama. The renewal for the Sony Pictures TV-produced series comes about six weeks before Blood of My Blood’s Aug. 8 series premiere; production on season two began Monday.

Blood of My Blood, which Starz ordered in conjunction with the final season of Outlander in early 2023, is a prequel — in both of its fictional world’s timelines — that follows the parents of the main series’ lead characters, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Randall/Fraser (Caitríona Balfe). Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) will become Jamie’s parents in 18th century Scotland, while in World War I-era Britain, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) are destined to be Claire’s mother and father.

One Of The Best Star Trek Episodes Ever Got Its Title From Tim Burton's Batman
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" doesn't quite have the cultural cache of "The Original Series" or "The Next Generation," but don't think it's lesser because of that. Many Trekkies, including at least one person at /Film, have argued that "DS9" is the very finest "Star Trek" of them all.

"Deep Space Nine" was set on the titular space station, orbiting the formerly occupied planet Bajor. This singular setting wasn't the only way that "DS9" broke up the "Trek" formula; many of the show's episodes got darker than "Trek" usually does. The last two seasons featured a serialized narrative about Starfleet fighting a war against the invading Dominion. "DS9" took "Star Trek" into darkness first (and more successfully) before J.J. Abrams did so.

The episode "Duet" explored the scars left on Bajor by its Cardassian occupiers. Bajoran Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor...
