In Inner Space: David Lean's Indian Investigations
Adela Quested (Judy Davis) finishes A Passage to India in the same manner she started the movie: her face is deformed by a window full of drops of rain. In both cases, she is looking at something more or less out of frame, blurred or uncertain, imaginary or physical. The placement of the camera, in the beginning and in the end, is at a different location. When the film starts, we are inside of a traveling agency and Adela is walking past the panoramic window. She stops for a second and stares at a large-sized model of a ship. We can’t see the ship entirely: just some chimneys, masts and ropes. We only know this is a ship because the previous shot—the first shot of the picture, actually—showed us this model. In the end of the movie, Adela is reading a letter concerning events that we have seen.

TV Review: Under the Dome 1.4, “Outbreak”
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

This episode had kernels of potentially interesting developments scattered within one of the most rote and boring renditions of a TV trope I’ve ever seen. “Outbreak” wasn’t 100% a bottle episode as Julia escaped the quarantine (which only lasted about ten hours or so) and we saw some immune or otherwise uninfected characters outside the medical center briefly, but the vast majority of the episode was concerned with a situation completely devoid of any stakes or tension. Plenty of my favorite series have suffered less than stellar or even dismal first episodes if not whole seasons (most of the Whedon TV oeuvre), and even if they weren’t necessarily bad they may have not been truly indicative of where the series ended up going (Fringe, Parks and Rec), but I can’t help but feel Under the Dome is trying my patience. Aside from the premiere,...

Under The Dome Recap: “Outbreak”
Hold your horses (and split cows), Under the Dome is showing signs of life.  Finally, residents seem to be concerned about their future -- what happens when there's no more food?  Or medicine?  The concern is still largely casual, but at least it's something.  After two weeks of stagnant plot lines and almost no character development, "Outbreak" actually moved things forward at a significant pace, and set things up for an interesting week to come (at least, as regards the Angie and Junior situation).  Hit the jump for more about the instant healing powers of antibiotics inside the dome. Under the Dome had split success this week.  While some plots (Norrie and Joe, Angie and Junior, Julia and Barbie) advanced and actually started building drama, others -- i.e. everything to do with the hospital outbreak -- fell flat.  When Mrs. Moore, Linda's third grade teacher, sacrificed her life for her,...

New Fifth Doctor Audios Announced
Big Finish announced today details of the upcoming three-story season of Fifth Doctor stories, featuring Peter Davison as the Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough, the first time this Tardis team had acted together since 1983.

According to executive producer Nicholas Briggs, "The three stories were recorded just after Christmas, and everyone was on brilliant form. It was quite thrilling to hear [the cast] recreating their roles so authentically. These adventures sound just like they've fallen through a time warp!"

He aded: “The mood during the recording was quite rambunctious and everyone had such a brilliant time that I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team reunited again some time in the near future…”

The series will debut in July, and the first story released will be Cobwebs by Jonathan Morris. The story guest-stars Helen Griffin (Mrs. Moore in "Rise of the Cybermen"), Raymond Coulthard...
