Things are still prickly with the Fast & Furious family, following the news that Fast & Furious 9 has been put back a year to the summer of 2020, and in its place in 2019 will be a spin-off movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Earlier this week, Tyrese Gibson had let his feelings be known over Johnson, and he wasn’t happy.

For some time, it’s been mooted for there to be a Fast & Furious spin-off movie, set around the characters of Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (played by The Statham). It seems that said project has gathered some – yes! – speed too, not least because we now learn that Shane Black is in the running to direct.

He hasn’t said yes to the project, but Black is said to be on Universal’s shortlist of potential directors for the film. Universal has purchased an untitled action adventure script about the hunt for Genghis Khan’s mysterious tomb, according to Deadline Hollywood. The script is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who co-wrote the live action Beauty And The Beast, as well as The Huntsman: Winter’s War. A reboot of the classic 80s action series Miami Vice is currently in development at NBC. Some of you might be happy to learn that the same team behind the Fast and Furious franchise, including Vin Diesel and screenwriter Chris Morgan, are developing the series as Executive Producers.

I enjoyed watching Miami Vice when I was a kid. It was a fun series that starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and it had a pretty solid run from 1984 to 1990. Throughout the course of its run, the series also featured actors like Edward James Olmos, Gene Simmons, Pam Grier, Laurence Fishburne, Viggo Mortensen, and John Leguizamo.

There was also a feature film directed by Michael Mann in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I wasn’t a big fan of that flick as it was fairly boring and very forgettable, which was a shame because I think Michael Mann is a great director.

Miami Vice is coming back.

Vin Diesel's production company, One Race Television, in partnership with Chris Morgan Productions, is working on a reboot of the 1980s crime cop drama, Variety reports.

While still early in development, Peter Macmanus is signed on to write the script, with him, Diesel, and Morgan among the list of executive producers.

Can you feel it calling in the air tonight? A reboot of Miami Vice is in the works at NBC, according to Variety.

The reboot is being brought to us by Vin Diesel's production company, One Race Television, and Chris Morgan productions. Morgan has penned six of the Fast & Furious movies. Considering the Fast & Furious franchise started with a cop and 2 Fast 2 Furious took place in Miami, it's not a bad fit.

Peter Macmanus, known for writing TV series such as Satisfaction and The Mist, will be writing the script. No executive producers have been announced but Variety muses that "it’s more than likely Macmanus, Morgan, and Diesel will all serve as EPs".

NBC is looking to reboot one of its most successful procedurals.

The network is teaming with Vin Diesel to develop a Miami Vice TV series.

The project, which has been in the works for months, is being driven by Shana Waterman (24: Live Another Day, Wayward Pines), the former Fox Broadcasting executive who now serves as head of television for Diesel's One Race Television production company. Miami Vice is the first project to come out of Diesel's first-look deal with Universal Television. Diesel and Waterman will exec produce alongside Chris Morgan and Ainsley Davies via the former's overall deal with Universal Television. Peter Macmanus (Spike TV's The Mist) will pen the script.

The Miami Vice reboot marks a reteaming for Morgan and Diesel, who have worked on all of the Fast and the Furious movies together.

Nearly 30 years after Miami Vice last aired on television, the series could return to the small screen thanks to a reboot spearheaded by Vin Diesel.

Not everybody was as nuts about the recently-released Fate of the Furious film as I was. However, no mater where you fall on the spectrum in terms of that action-packed piece of escapism, most seem to agree on one thing: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have amazing chemistry together.

It makes sense, as the plot seemed perfectly contrived to bring out that antagonistic relationship between these two. On one hand, you have a full-on criminal, and on the other, a lifelong law enforcement loyalist. When forced to team up, there’s bound to be some conflict. Once critics first got to see that film, there was buzz of a potential spinoff that would see those two team up again.

Universal is readying a “Fate of the Furious” spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, TheWrap has learned. The spinoff, which will be written Chris Morgan, will feature Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Statham’s Decker Shaw teaming up for their own side adventure ahead of the next installment in the “Fast” series of films. TheWrap previously reported exclusively that a short “tag” featuring Johnson and Statham was filmed for “Fate of the Furious,” but producer and co-star Vin Diesel killed plans to add the scene to the very end of the movie. Could Fast & Furious 9 be heading to space? "You never know," teases director F. Gary Gray...

The plots of the Fast & Furious films have become so outlandish that the idea of Dom and his fambly setting off for a space adventure (where no one can hear you scream "I live my life a quarter mile at a time!") has gone from 'lol' to 'maybe'.

“Outer space? Listen, I wouldn’t rule out anything with this franchise," admitted Fast 8 director F. Gary Gray in an interview with Screen Rant. "When I read submarine I’m like ‘Ok, anything’s possible’. [Laughs] You never know. I haven’t read 'Dom on Mars' yet but again, you just never know.”

Writer Chris Morgan also refused to rule out the possibility of Vin and The Rock taking out some bad guys in Zero-g, if the circumstances were right.

“Look, I get all versions of that question.

In 2013 director Guillermo del Toro brought us Pacific Rim, a fantastic film featuring fighting giant robots and giant monsters called kaiju. With this film he was setting up a universe that one day could grow into future sequels and even a television animated series. It also made over 400 million dollars, no doubt that it was only a matter of time before they got to work on a sequel. But why would Del Toro not direct the second film?

Vin Diesel has posted a brand new image from Fast & Furious 8 to his Facebook account, and in doing so, has revealed that the first trailer for the new movie is going to land on December 11th. This might just be a first: a specific release date for a trailer, a good two and half months before it's actually due to land.

While we have no directo confirmation that is the case, the movie's screenwriter Josh Boone has tweeted out his own personal pick for the iconic vampire Lestat de Lioncourt in this impending remake. Yesterday, we reported that the long-gestating remake of Interview with the Vampire is still moving forward, with writer-director Josh Boone showing off the cover page to his recently-completed script, which he co-wrote with Jill Killington. The image revealed that the project is based on two of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles books, Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, although nothing more is known about the adaptation, or how closely it will stick to these two novels.

Way back in the summer of 2014, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to author Anne Rice's entire The Vampire Chronicles novel series, including Interview With the Vampire, Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat. A few weeks later, the studio brought on The Fault in our Stars filmmaker Josh Boone to write and direct an adaptation entitled The Vampire Chronicles, which would be based on Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat. It seems the focus of this project has changed a bit, with Josh Boone recently revealing the title page of his script for a remake of Interview with the Vampire.

With Season 6 of HBO's Game of Thrones debuting in just a few weeks, one of the show's stars is transitioning from Westeros to the the high-octane Fast & Furious franchise. The Wrap reports that Kristofer Hivju, who plays Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones, has joined the cast of Fast & Furious 8. Actor Johnny Depp has signed on to star in Universal Pictures' remake of "The Invisible Man." Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are producing a new line-up of classic Universal monster films by revamping them for today's audience. The 1933 film followed scientist Jack Griffin who was always given the latitude to conduct some of his own experiments. His sudden departure, however, has Cranley's daughter Flora worried about him. Griffin has taken a room at the nearby Lion's Head Inn, hoping to reverse an experiment he conducted on himself that made him invisible. Unfortunately, the drug he used has also warped his mind, making him aggressive and dangerous. He's prepared to do whatever it takes to restore his appearance, and several will die in the process.

Johnny Depp, owner of cool hats and glasses, will bring his stylish and theatrical flair to Universal's Invisible Man. Deadline reports the actor is set to star in the reboot's titular role as a researcher who, if in line with H. G. Wells's original character, will turn himself irreversibly invisible, develop a comparable penchant for wide-brimmed headwear and dark-colored specs, and ultimately become a terror. The site notes nothing of helmer or timeline, but producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are reportedly getting things going in a writers room. The project is definitely part of the studio's initiative to reboot a slew of classic monster flicks in what the trades are describing as a Marvel-esque shared universe — recall the similar Mummy business. The actor has signed on to star in The Invisible Man, the studio’s latest offering being developed by producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. Universal Pictures are really courting the highest level of A-list talent for their upcoming Monster Movie Universe and they've just landed another extremely big fish in the form of 3x Academy Award-nominee Johnny Depp.  Deadline is reporting that Depp has signed on to star in The Invisible Man, which will be a reimagining of the 1933 original that starred Claude Rains as a scientist who discovers a way to make himself invisible, but loses his sanity in the process. Further details on the film's development were unavailable, but The Hollywood Reporter adds that Ed Solomon (Men In Black) will likely pen the script. In just a few months, production will get under way on Fast & Furious 8, which we reported in September will kick off the franchise's final trilogy. Last month, Universal handed out release dates for Fast & Furious 9 (April 19, 2019) and the franchise finale Fast & Furious 10 (April 2, 2021), but there is still much we don't know about Fast & Furious 8 at this time. Today we have a new report from Deadline, which reveals that director F. Gary Gray and writer Chris Morgan are creating a new female villain, with Charlize Theron being eyed for the role.

This report reveals that the script still hasn't been completed quite yet, and while a formal offer hasn't been made, the site claims that the actress' schedule may have an opening that would allow her to come on board. Still, the actress hasn't even seen a script yet, and it isn't known if she would even take on such a role.

Having first reared its head more than three years ago, many had assumed that Schwarzenegger had quietly cancelled plans to revisit his breakout role. However, according to the Austrian Oak himself, that simply isn’t the case.
