Well that whole “Dark Universe”—a planned interconnected series of monster movies from Universal Pictures in the vein of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—may be dead before it’s even gotten off the ground. Universal worked for years to revamp its monster properties in a big way, tapping Transformers and Star Trek writer/producer Alex Kurtzman and Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan to oversee the development of new films back in 2014, at which point they began serving as essentially the franchise's showrunners. The duo opened a writers room, got scripts off the ground for films like Van …...

Tyrese Gibson argues Dwayne Johnson is being "selfish" over the Fast & Furious spin-off film...
Ulp. Things are still prickly with the Fast & Furious family, following the news that Fast & Furious 9 has been put back a year to the summer of 2020, and in its place in 2019 will be a spin-off movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Earlier this week, Tyrese Gibson had let his feelings be known over Johnson, and he wasn’t happy.
He’s clarified his thoughts in a new interview with TMZ, saying that “I don’t know what they’re doing. Everybody coming at me like I’m hating on Dwayne about his spinoff, but I’m not. The truth is, I just wish he was releasing it at a different time”.

Jason Statham and The Rock are set to get a Fast & Furious spin-off - with Shane Black on the director shortlist...
I think the words we’re looking for here are ‘yes please’.
For some time, it’s been mooted for there to be a Fast & Furious spin-off movie, set around the characters of Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (played by The Statham). It seems that said project has gathered some – yes! – speed too, not least because we now learn that Shane Black is in the running to direct.
He hasn’t said yes to the project, but Black is said to be on Universal’s shortlist of potential directors for the film. He’s currently editing next year’s The Predator, though, so don’t expect a decision quickly. Chris Morgan is penning the script for the spin-off movie, which is expected to be...

A day after pushing “Fast & Furious 9” to April 2020, Universal is placing a spin-off film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham on their slate, with the release date set for July 26, 2019. Chris Morgan, who has written the scripts for every “F&F” film since “Tokyo Drift” in 2006, will pen the script for this spin-off, which will see Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and redeemed “F&F” villain Deckard Shaw (Statham) go off on their own adventure. Universal has purchased an untitled action adventure script about the hunt for Genghis Khan’s mysterious tomb, according to Deadline Hollywood. The script is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who co-wrote the live action Beauty And The Beast, as well as The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia will be executive producers with ImageMovers’ Robert Zemeckis.
Even though this totally seems like the kind of movie that Dwayne Johnson would star in, he will only serve as producer. Johnson and Garcia are already working with Universal on the Fast And The Furious franchise, as well as the untitled spinoff film where Johnson and Jason Statham will reprise their characters in a script by Chris Morgan.

A reboot of the classic 80s action series Miami Vice is currently in development at NBC. Some of you might be happy to learn that the same team behind the Fast and Furious franchise, including Vin Diesel and screenwriter Chris Morgan, are developing the series as Executive Producers.
I enjoyed watching Miami Vice when I was a kid. It was a fun series that starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and it had a pretty solid run from 1984 to 1990. Throughout the course of its run, the series also featured actors like Edward James Olmos, Gene Simmons, Pam Grier, Laurence Fishburne, Viggo Mortensen, and John Leguizamo.
There was also a feature film directed by Michael Mann in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I wasn’t a big fan of that flick as it was fairly boring and very forgettable, which was a shame because I think Michael Mann is a great director.

Can you feel it calling in the air tonight? A reboot of Miami Vice is in the works at NBC, according to Variety.
The reboot is being brought to us by Vin Diesel's production company, One Race Television, and Chris Morgan productions. Morgan has penned six of the Fast & Furious movies. Considering the Fast & Furious franchise started with a cop and 2 Fast 2 Furious took place in Miami, it's not a bad fit.
Peter Macmanus, known for writing TV series such as Satisfaction and The Mist, will be writing the script. No executive producers have been announced but Variety muses that "it’s more than likely Macmanus, Morgan, and Diesel will all serve as EPs".

Update: Variety has reported that Charlize Theron's Cipher, villain from the recent Fate of the Furious, may potentially be a part of this spinoff as well. The plot thickens...
Original Story:
Not everybody was as nuts about the recently-released Fate of the Furious film as I was. However, no mater where you fall on the spectrum in terms of that action-packed piece of escapism, most seem to agree on one thing: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have amazing chemistry together.
It makes sense, as the plot seemed perfectly contrived to bring out that antagonistic relationship between these two. On one hand, you have a full-on criminal, and on the other, a lifelong law enforcement loyalist. When forced to team up, there’s bound to be some conflict. Once critics first got to see that film, there was buzz of a potential spinoff that would see those two team up again.

In 2013 director Guillermo del Toro brought us Pacific Rim, a fantastic film featuring fighting giant robots and giant monsters called kaiju. With this film he was setting up a universe that one day could grow into future sequels and even a television animated series. It also made over 400 million dollars, no doubt that it was only a matter of time before they got to work on a sequel. But why would Del Toro not direct the second film?

Is Jared Leto Lestat in the upcoming Interview with the Vampire remake? While we have no directo confirmation that is the case, the movie's screenwriter Josh Boone has tweeted out his own personal pick for the iconic vampire Lestat de Lioncourt in this impending remake. Though, he doesn't give us much to go on. He simply says the following about his possible casting pick.
"Lestat - there can be only one. #JaredLeto."
Yesterday, we reported that the long-gestating remake of Interview with the Vampire is still moving forward, with writer-director Josh Boone showing off the cover page to his recently-completed script, which he co-wrote with Jill Killington. The image revealed that the project is based on two of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles books, Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, although nothing more is known about the adaptation, or how closely it will stick to these two novels.

Way back in the summer of 2014, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to author Anne Rice's entire The Vampire Chronicles novel series, including Interview With the Vampire, Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat. A few weeks later, the studio brought on The Fault in our Stars filmmaker Josh Boone to write and direct an adaptation entitled The Vampire Chronicles, which would be based on Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat. It seems the focus of this project has changed a bit, with Josh Boone recently revealing the title page of his script for a remake of Interview with the Vampire.
The filmmaker posted this photo of the script title page to his Instagram account last week, which revealed the title is in fact Interview With the Vampire, which will be based on the book of the same name, and The Vampire Lestat. The filmmaker co-wrote the script with Jill Killington,...

After nearly two months of speculation, actress Charlize Theron has officially joined the cast of Universal's Fast & Furious 8. Variety reports that the actress is expected to play a villain, which falls in line with the first report that surfaced in early February, but no details about this character have been released. Production is expected to begin soon, with shooting scheduled to take place in New York, Atlanta, Cuba, Iceland and Russia.
Charlize Theron was initially approached in February, but since the script by Chris Morgan hadn't been completed yet, the Oscar-winning actress didn't want to commit to the project until the screenplay was done. Even after the script met with her approval, she still had some scheduling complications to work out, since she signed on to star in Sony's spy thriller entitled The Gray Man back in October. However, since the script was initially written for a male lead, rewrites were ordered,...

We've known for quite some time that Universal's Fast & Furious 8 will start filming soon, which, like most movies in the franchise, will be an international affair. Filming will largely take place in both New York City and Atlanta, but shoots are also being planned in international locales such as Iceland, Cuba and Russia. Today we have a new report from Cleveland.com which reveals the sequel will also be shot in Ohio, with production possibly starting as early as mid-April.
Cleveland residents shouldn't expect to see any of the franchise's stars such as Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson in their city, since it will be a second-unit shoot. The Greater Cleveland Film Commission also posted a notice that the second unit is seeking submissions for local crew members and vendors for the shoot. Actor Johnny Depp has signed on to star in Universal Pictures' remake of "The Invisible Man." Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are producing a new line-up of classic Universal monster films by revamping them for today's audience. The film will be based off of the 1933 film, "The Invisible Man", which was directed by James Whale who is responsible for making the original "Frankenstein" and "Bride Of Frankenstein."
The 1933 film followed scientist Jack Griffin who was always given the latitude to conduct some of his own experiments. His sudden departure, however, has Cranley's daughter Flora worried about him. Griffin has taken a room at the nearby Lion's Head Inn, hoping to reverse an experiment he conducted on himself that made him invisible. Unfortunately, the drug he used has also warped his mind, making him aggressive and dangerous. He's prepared to do whatever it takes to restore his appearance, and several will die in the process.

Johnny Depp, owner of cool hats and glasses, will bring his stylish and theatrical flair to Universal's Invisible Man. Deadline reports the actor is set to star in the reboot's titular role as a researcher who, if in line with H. G. Wells's original character, will turn himself irreversibly invisible, develop a comparable penchant for wide-brimmed headwear and dark-colored specs, and ultimately become a terror. The site notes nothing of helmer or timeline, but producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are reportedly getting things going in a writers room. (THR says Men in Black's Ed Solomon could be the main scribe.) The project is definitely part of the studio's initiative to reboot a slew of classic monster flicks in what the trades are describing as a Marvel-esque shared universe — recall the similar Mummy business. But it's also possibly part of a secret campaign to bring back Depp's Willy Wonka...

In just a few months, production will get under way on Fast & Furious 8, which we reported in September will kick off the franchise's final trilogy. Last month, Universal handed out release dates for Fast & Furious 9 (April 19, 2019) and the franchise finale Fast & Furious 10 (April 2, 2021), but there is still much we don't know about Fast & Furious 8 at this time. Today we have a new report from Deadline, which reveals that director F. Gary Gray and writer Chris Morgan are creating a new female villain, with Charlize Theron being eyed for the role.
This report reveals that the script still hasn't been completed quite yet, and while a formal offer hasn't been made, the site claims that the actress' schedule may have an opening that would allow her to come on board. Still, the actress hasn't even seen a script yet, and it isn't known if she would even take on such a role.

Similarly to how Terminator: Genisys will likely go down as the star’s final foray in Paramount’s sci-fi franchise – no thanks to its lowly performance both critically and financially – Arnold Schwarzenegger is gearing up for one last swing of the mighty sword as the titular hero in Legend of Conan.
Having first reared its head more than three years ago, many had assumed that Schwarzenegger had quietly cancelled plans to revisit his breakout role. However, according to the Austrian Oak himself, that simply isn’t the case.
News comes by way of TheArnoldFans, revealing that Schwarzenegger and writer-producer Chris Morgan are currently in possession of a finished script – which includes contributions from Oscar-winning scribe Andrea Berloff – and the search is on for a director to take point.
