Dragon Ball will never be the same again. The latest release of Dragon Ball Super marks the end of Akira Toriyama's contribution to the series as creator, leaving the future of the franchise to Toyotarou, the artist and co-creator of the manga.
Dragon Ball Super Full Color, Volume 24 was released in Japan on July 4, 2025. The latest digital colored collection includes Chapters 101-104 of the manga, which concludes the adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero anime movie and features the recent one-shot story starring Goten and Trunks. The complete colorization of the Dragon Ball Super manga also, unfortunately, means that Toriyama's contribution to Super and the Dragon Ball franchise is now officially over. Toyotarou -- who assured fans that a new Dragon Ball Super arc is coming -- will now have complete creative control of the manga when it resumes publication.

As a longtime Dragon Ball fan, it’s frustrating to admit that the series is extremely stagnant when it comes to certain tropes. I admit that it is one of the progenitors of the Shonen genre, but I can’t understand one thing – how Vegeta, the literal Prince of all Saiyans, despite training so hard, will never be Goku’s equal.
It’s not because of his lack of strength or effort; it’s the narrative itself. From the beginning of Dragon Ball Z to Super, every time Vegeta gets close to Goku, the writers drag him back, only to push Goku forward into the limelight.
Dragon Ball Super has been on hiatus for a while now, and no, I don’t know when it will return. But I can tell you this – Vegeta will never surpass Goku. Don’t come at me now, it’s just the truth. He...

Hard work is the way to go! This is the spirit that Dragon Ball has embodied and showcased through its protagonist, Goku. Goku has grown through many battles, clenching victory through efforts and training. From a mortal warrior, he has managed to become one of the strongest beings in the universe.
However, not all of Goku’s fights were the result of his strength or merit. There were some he shouldn’t have been able to win at all, but he managed to do so with a last-minute power-up. This may have become a classic Shonen trope, but here is a list of ten battles Goku should’ve never won.
10. Goku Had to Tell on Zamasu to Defeat Him
The Future Trunks timeline is an extremely dark saga. It brought up themes of eradication and despair as Zamasu refused to go down. Despite being a normal Kai (like North Kai...

The Dragon Ball series has been on hiatus for a while now. The anime hasn’t progressed after the Tournament of Power, while the manga has been halted since Toriyama’s passing. Things might seem grim right now, but as long as the fans wait it out, the future is bright.
Sean Schemmel, the English voice actor of Goku, embodies this spirit. After voicing Goku for 26 years, Schemmel understands that there’s a lot to be done, and be it Granolah or Black Frieza, he is ready for them all.

The greatest villains in Dragon Ball have been ‘bad’ or antagonistic from the very beginning. This trend starts from the time of little Goku (with Pilaf), and continues to Dragon Ball Super, with enemies like Moro.
The best addition to the series would be an unexpected villain, one who seems to be on the good guys’ side, and he is so strong that when he goes rogue, he can threaten the peaceful existence of the entire world.
This character is none other than the calm and servile Grand Priest. The strongest fighter in the Dragon Ball canon. The seemingly benevolent and composed Angel has always been suspicious. After all, no one wants to serve an all-powerful child like Zeno for all eternity.
The Shadow of Death That Looms Behind Zeno
The Grand Priest is patient, hidden, and servile. For all eternity, he needs to serve Zeno, with no space for himself.

While most people dipped their toes into Studio Ghibli through Totoro or Kiki, I got body-slammed straight into Princess Mononoke. Curses. Gods. Decapitations. Wolves with mommy-complex. It was too much. But the one person who actually reached my heart, in a good way, was Lady Eboshi.
She wasn’t the soft-spoken, magical Ghibli girl I was expecting. No, she was tough, calculating, and armed. She fought gods, burned down forests, and also saved lepers, rescued women from sexual slavery, and built a community from the ground up. Who is this woman? Short answer: the most complicated, morally grey, oddly lovable leader Ghibli has ever created.
In Princess Mononoke, Lady Eboshi isn’t a villain; she’s just trying to save her people (aggressively)
In Princess Mononoke, Lady Eboshi rules Iron Town like a true queen. She doesn’t rule with fear; she empowers people. Sex workers become blacksmiths. Lepers are turned into engineers.

Dragon Ball Super has many interesting arcs and unique antagonists. From Zamasu to Granolah, there are many villains that stand out in Super, but of them, the best one is most likely Moro.
Moro’s character puts a spotlight on all the themes that Dragon Ball Super seemed to lack until then. The dread of an entity that can cause the destruction of entire planetary systems, and one that can seemingly grow stronger endlessly.
In a way, it reminded the fans of Cell, but instead of evolving, Moro grew stronger and stronger as he absorbed life essence and planets. Moro was unique because, unlike the usual brute-forcing combatants, he was a wizard.
An antagonist that inspires universal dread
When Toyotarou designed Moro, he was not trying to make a breakthrough villain. Instead of reinventing the wheel, Toyotarou looked at what worked and what he wanted to bring to Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball is an amazing series and a franchise, and I don’t think many IPs have had as much impact on the fans as Dragon Ball did. Even forty years later, it is moving forward with the same momentum and ambition.
In fact, things only keep getting better. It has been a whole decade since Dragon Ball Super started, and even though it’s hard to believe, it is true. Ten years later, a poster in the anniversary edition of the series features an all-new Father-son Kamehameha, with Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan.
A decade of Super and a lifetime of impact
I didn’t realize how much I needed this until it happened: Dragon Ball Super turning 10, and showcasing the grown Goku and Gohan, using ‘The attack‘. It is one of those moments where you have a profound realization.

Dragon Ball is a generational franchise that has been known for its brilliant action, incredible transformations, and hilarious gags. The story was taken to the next level with the help of Dragon Ball Super.
Heading into the cosmic level, dealing with the strongest fighters in existence and communicating with gods and angels, it seemed to have everything. Yet there was one thing that remained constant about Dragon Ball Super- its animation.
Fans believed that Dragon Ball Super itself was the peak of animation and visuals, but with the latest installment, Dragon Ball Daima, it becomes clear that the animation could be a lot better, as Daima finally fills in the lacking part of the series.

Dragon Ball Daima has given the fans many sweet memories. From being Toriyama’s ultimate work with a return to roots style adventure setting and well-timed gags, Daima also reintroduced fan-favorite forms like Super Saiyan 4 in a fresh, canonized light.
Not to mention many of the plot holes in Gt have been fixed through the storytelling in Daima, the question now arises: could this finally be the era where Dragon Ball Gt’s villains have a resurgence?
Instead of being relegated to the non-canonical and not really noticed by many Gt, can they truly claim their spot in the limelight? There is one character who is unique and complex and can carve out his own niche even in a setting like Dragon Ball Super- Baby.
It is time to immortalize Gt by adapting the best of it
Though Dragon Ball Gt was never part of the official canon, its influence has never truly faded.

The Dragon Ball series has built its combat from the level of martial arts battles to that of cosmic, multiversal tournaments. There are a lot of differences and changes made to the combat, but the basic unit seems to remain constant.
Ki, the fundamental unit of energy that Goku learns about as a kid under Master Roshi, is the same energy that transforms into other forms and is the reason for the strength of most of the powerful beings in the universe.
Whis and Beerus are the cosmic entities that Goku and the Z fighters have been in contact with the most, and being an Angel and a God of Destruction, they still use Ki extensively. But it is always for physical enhancements. What if someone used Ki to increase their intelligence? What if it were a villain?

Dragon Ball is a legacy series that set the tone for all that came after. It firmly established the importance of Shonen anime and heralded the likes of the ‘Big 3.’ But through the decades, the essence of Dragon Ball has changed a lot.
In the beginning, the original Dragon Ball was all about fun, adventuring, and getting stronger in a fantasy world. But as soon as the page turned and Dragon Ball Z began, the fantasy world merged with sci-fi, intergalactic forces, and aliens.
Ignoring Gt, Super came next, and it delved into the realms of gods and Angels, further elevating the power levels of the Dragon Ball universe. But through all these changes, has it really remained the same? Dbz animator Masaki Sato doesn’t think so.
The series that evolved a little too much
Dragon Ball Z was an epic saga that was widely known across the world.

The Dragon Ball series has had multiple installments, and I have loved all of them, including the most recent Dragon Ball Daima. The anime and manga have run simultaneously before, and the anime had even overtaken the manga for quite a bit, leading to a lot of differences between the two.
Dragon Ball Super is the only incomplete and ongoing installment, but it has been on a hiatus since 2018. Fans like me have grown tired of waiting. The manga, however, has been continued by Toyotarou and has some of the most interesting arcs in the series. It is especially unfortunate that Vegeta has not gotten his share of the limelight.
The anime concluded with the ToP (Tournament of Power), and Vegeta was not the point of focus, but the arcs that are yet to be adapted hide the most powerful form, the Ultra Ego form of the Gods of Destruction.

Since Dragon Ball Z began, alongside Goku, Vegeta became a point of focus as well. Vegeta has always been the proud warrior, the Prince of all Saiyans, whose power and ego defined him. He has always been known to pursue strength, flaunting his royal lineage and looking down upon the poor. Vegeta’s character changed a lot after marrying Bulma and having a child.
He went from an annoying Saiyan to a grumpy but loving husband and father. There are many who say that Vegeta has no moments of character development anymore; the only things that reflect his growth are the transformations, which increase his power.
But the ones who read the manga know that Vegeta’s greatest moment of growth didn’t come from transforming into a Super Saiyan, Ultra Ego, or anything flashy. It came from a single line, full of determination and purpose.

Dragon Ball Super has officially passed a major milestone heading into 2025, with 24 volumes now in circulation. There is no doubt that this is a major achievement for a series that ended its anime run back in 2018.
There has been consistent fan demand for a continuation of the Dragon Ball Super series. Although there have been many arcs accumulating that need anime adaptation, there seems to be no movement from Toei Animation as they seem uninterested.

Goku and Vegeta are one of anime and manga’s most iconic rivals. They’re so inseparable that fans sometimes forget they have wives supporting them from the background. The debate on who’s stronger, Goku or Vegeta, will go on till the end of time, even years after Dragon Ball Super ends. While fans of each character will argue with some bias, there’s no doubt that each of them has their own strengths and weaknesses.

Fans know quite well that series creator Akira Toriyama loved Goku and disliked Vegeta initially, but as the story progressed, he grew to like Vegeta more. Invariably, he gave the Saiyan Prince a key advantage over his rival that Goku fans cannot help but accept.

The Dragon Ball series has always been known for its intense and over-the-top fights, but the fights in Dragon Ball Super further take this series to a new level. While Luffy’s Gear 5 and his following fight with Kaido in One Piece unleashed a wave of excitement throughout the anime world, some of the Dragon Ball fights may completely surpass that level of hype if given the proper exposure.

The Dragon Ball Super manga took some time to sink in for the fandom. As a continuation of Akira Toriyamas beloved original run of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Super had huge shoes to fill. While many of the manga's early arcs were simply adaptations of the Super anime and movies, the latter half introduced almost entirely new material, leading to some of the best villains and fights in Super.
In fact, some of the Dragon Ball Super mangas latter half is considered the very best of the series thus far. New characters like Granolah, Gas and Moro are some of Supers most popular, and their fights against Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta are arguably the series absolute best. Dragon Ball Daima will undeniably push the Super anime's return back further, but fights like Ue Vegeta vs Granolah and Ui Goku vs Gohan Beast are certain to become instant...

Akira Toriyamas Dragon Ball has resonated with audiences for so many reasons, but its the series complex characters that have kept fans coming back for 40 years. Dragon Ball has an extremely diverse cast of characters, some of whom have matured from precocious children into honorable adults across Dragon Balls several series. Goku has always been Dragon Balls proud protagonist, and hes accomplished incredible things that have literally put him on par with Gods. Gokus achievements are nothing short of incredible, especially when theyre combined with his eternally humble nature and a sheer love for combat.
That being said, Gokus naivety and passion can be a double-edged sword, and theyve caused their share of problems, some of which have even put the universe in jeopardy. Goku never turns his back on his friends, family, or planet, but he does occasionally get driven by the wrong emotions and expose himself to unnecessary and avoidable incidents.

Akira Toriyamas Dragon Ball has taken tremendous strides since its debut nearly four decades ago. Each progressive Dragon Ball series feels authentic to its predecessors, while they also continue to boldly tread into new territory and redefine expectations. Dragon Ball Super is easily the franchises biggest series to date and many fans have been concerned that there wont be a plausible way to surpass its heights. Dragon Ball Daima, a new Dragon Ball side-story anime that had direct involvement from Akira Toriyama before his passing, opts to take a different direction.
Goku and the rest of his friends and family find themselves magically transformed into children, right when danger strikes. Now that’ll be fun to watch. Manga-exclusive Dragon Ball characters in the upcoming Bandai Namco game. But it won’t really be a cakewalk if the company even decides to do that. Especially when intellectual property rights are currently in a chaotic place after the creator passed away this March.
But that doesn’t stop fans from speculating about which of the characters they have yet to see in the anime, may make an appearance in the game. For one, Black Frieza was among them, and if that happens, users may be entering an endgame at the beginning of a battle.
They Know it’s Not Possible, But They Are Still Hopeful
When we already know that chances are really thin of something happening, it’s better to accept things as they are. But fans are hopeful, and they are hoping that they may see some manga-exclusive characters in the upcoming Spike Chunsoft game.

According to Tokyo-based Weekly Toyo Keizai, a Japanese finance and business magazine, the rights to who owns Dragon Ball are somewhat murky at the moment, following the untimely demise of franchise creator Akira Toriyama.
The conflict is centered around Akio Iyoki, the former head of Shuiesha (Dragon Ball's publisher) Dragon Ball Room- which was a group Shuiesha formed in 2016 to make decisions regarding all-things Dragon Ball.
However, Iyoki recently decided to go independent and established a new company, called Capsule Corporation, obviously taking inspiration from the company owned by Bulma and Dr. Brief in the Dragon Ball franchise.
According to the report, Shuiesha was unhappy with some of the actions that Iyoki made during his tenure as head of the Dragon Ball Room- specifically, that Iyoki frequently made decisions based on Toriyama's wishes, not necessarily what the top executives at Shuiesha wanted.
This ultimately led to Iyoki being reassigned to another department,...

Studio Ghibli's beloved My Neighbor Totoro (1988) is arguably one of the most iconic films that the company has ever produced. As a testament to the movie's enduring legacy, Donguri Sora has re-released two Totoro-themed postcard sets that were initially created for the Totoro "Hometown" fund -- an environmental conservation group based in Japan's Saitama prefecture.
Ghibli's official online storefront, Donguri Sora, recently restocked both of My Neighbor Totoro's official "Fund Goods" postcard sets, all of which feature adorable artwork of Totoro and the other colorful nature spirits that appear in the film. Notably, the six-piece set features gorgeous original watercolor images created by Totoro writer and director Hayao Miyazaki. Two of these cards pay tribute to two famous scenes -- one where Totoro plays a soft melody on an ocarina, and another where he takes protagonists Satsuki and Mei on a fun midnight flight through the sky.

The successors of Goku and Vegeta have been proving themselves lately and have already shown more potential than their pure-bred Saiyan parents. Future Trunks has whole sagas dedicated to himself, and his power is truly frightening.
In fact, there is one transformation that gives Trunks an edge over every other character in Dragon Ball. It uses the power of Goku’s most overused technique when in peril.
Trunks’ Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan Might Be His Key to Greatness
Super Saiyan Spirit Bomb | Dragon Ball Fandom
In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Future Trunks’ battle against Fused Zamasu revealed a new power-up. As you might know, gathering energy from humans and other living beings on Earth creates a Spirit Bomb, which Saiyans hurl towards their enemies. This Spirit Bomb is often a final move and destroys the enemy with a great explosion.
However, rather than throwing it toward his enemy, Future Trunks absorbs it.

Akira Toriyamas Dragon Ball Z has lasted the test of time and become an evergreen anime staple thanks to its compelling characters, strong storytelling & world-building, and unbelievable transformations that elevate both heroes and villains to the power of gods. As a battle shonen series, fight sequences are extremely important to Dragon Ball. The franchises quality is frequently analogous to its last big battle and a disappointing duel can completely tank the series reputation. Dragon Ball knows how to deliver when it comes to epic fights that have been building up for dozens or even hundreds of episodes.

The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, "A Legacy Toward the Future," by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, Caleb Book, and Brandon Bovia, available in English from Viz Media.
Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Super manga has proven to not only be a satisfying adaptation of the popular anime series, but it’s effectively become the definitive story after progressing far beyond the Tournament of Power’s conclusion. Dragon Ball Super’s manga has introduced formidable new foes – such as Moro, Granolah, and the Heeter Force – as well as seismic transformations like True Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego, and Black Frieza. Dragon Ball Super manga fans experienced a bit of a frustrating standstill starting with Chapter 89, “A Rival Appears!,” which marked the beginning of an expanded adaptation of the anime’s most recent feature film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which lasted for more than a year.

Studio Ghibli films take us on awe-inspiring journeys to other realms where cutesy animals and cozy vibes intersect with religion, environmentalism, and Japanese history. But this mix of child-like curiosity and mature contemplation doesn’t totally account for the studio’s sizable queer fanbase. And still, there’s something about Ghibli specifically that resonates with queer people, despite there being little obvious representation to speak of across the studio’s forty-year history.
On the face of it, much of this appeal can be chalked up to Ghibli’s fiercely strong female protagonists. Although the likes of Kaguya, Arrietty, and Nausicaä don’t actively identify as queer, gay audiences will happily follow them to hell and back. Like flying machines and delicious food porn, gay icons in this vein are woven throughout the studio’s tapestry, but only if you’re actively looking for them. Thankfully, LGBTQ+ fans are well-versed in spotting “secret” queer characters,...

There's a lot to be excited about regarding the recently announced Dragon Ball Daima. Dragon Ball Daima may truly be something extraordinary between its impressive visuals, a promise to return to the series' roots, and Akira Toriyama's more active role in the franchise. Dragon Ball Daima may live up its high expectations, but there are plenty of reasons why fans would prefer a new season of Dragon Ball Super instead.
Dragon Ball Super was initially criticized by fans, but it has aged well and progressively won over audiences. It's a series that has only gotten better over time, especially when it comes to Dragon Ball Super's post-anime manga material. Dragon Ball Super's most recent manga chapters have been some of the series' best, which suggests that Dragon Ball Super Part 2 could take the franchise to even greater heights and amount to a better continuation than Dragon Ball Daima.

A massive twist in Dragon Ball Super that excused the sudden appearance of posable threats for Goku and Vegeta didn't just happen randomly. The Dragon Ball sequel actually set the stage for it to happen in an earlier saga, and the connecting factor was the resulting side effects that consequently made these random developments more believable and underscored the importance of one of the series' most ubiquitous themes - the power of training.
Dragon Ball Super made waves when Granolah the Cerealean wished to become the strongest warrior n Universe 7, especially since another villain named Elec later made the same request for his companion Gas. Although a decent explanation as to how there could possibly be a villain strong enough to pose a threat to Goku and Vegeta, the twist allowed Vegeta to outsmart Granlah's wish in a clever way that added some nuance to the conflict. Most Dragon Ball antagonists have the same generic reactions to the Z-Fighters because they don't know anything about them. The Androids are unique in how much they know about the Z-Fighters and how that informs their interactions with them. The nature of the Androids' relationship with the Z-Fighters makes it nearly impossible to replicate for modern Dragon Ball antagonists.
The antagonists of Dragon Ball have fallen into a sameness. They may come in different forms and come from various places, but there's one thing they all have in common. One of Goku's most useful techniques secretly received a major power-up in Dragon Ball Super that would have greatly simplified the events of the Majin Buu Saga if the legendary Saiyan had this capability back then. However, nobody seemed to notice this massive upgrade.
In Dragon Ball chapter #509, Goku informs everyone who had just been safely transported from a recently destroyed Earth to the Sacred World of the Kai that he wouldn't be able to use the Instant Transmission technique he learned on Yardat to teleport to New Namek so they could use their Dragon Balls. However, Goku doesn't seem to have this problem anymore in Dragon Ball Super, resulting in a huge power-up for his Instant Transmission.

“The Eight Mountains,” Belgian directors Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch’s Italian-language drama about friendship, mountains and growing up, scored the top prize at Italy’s 68th David di Donatello Awards.
Besides winning best picture, the film also scooped statuettes for best non-original screenplay, photography and sound.
Given that the directors are not Italian, it was a particularly significant victory for “Mountains,” which was praised as “quietly magnificent” by Variety critic Jessica Kiang. The film, which is currently playing well on the U.S. arthouse circuit, tracks the decades-long friendship between two Italian boys named Pietro and Bruno — one from the city, the other a shepherd boy from the Alps.
“It’s pretty incredible,” commented a visibly moved Van Groeningen. “Two Belgians who win this prize in Italy for an Italian movie.” “Thank you for this declaration of love,” added Vandermeersch, his partner in life. “We love Italy very much.

While Krillin has been a main character since the early days of Dragon Ball, he has a longstanding history of being treated as a joke for looking weak compared to Goku and the other Z fighters. The fact that Krillin has died three times—four if Dragon Ball Gt is counted—only exacerbates his poor reputation, and the parody series Dragon Ball Z Abridged even famously made a running gag out of having a counter for every time Krillin was humiliated.

Sixteen classic Dragon Ball characters will clash to decide who is the most popular as fans of the franchise get the chance to vote on Twitter for their favorite in the "Dragon Ball Secret Battle Hour" tournament.
To advertise the upcoming gaming event "Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour", which will be held in Las Vegas on March 4 and 5, the Dragon Ball Twitter account has launched a popularity contest in the form of a tournament that will pitch 16 characters from the Dragon Ball franchise against each other. The brackets have been determined randomly (in theory), in perfect Dragon Ball Tenkaichi tradition, and fans will get to vote by hitting either like or retweet on the post for each matchup. The champion of the Secret Battle Hour tournament will also receive a special wallpaper illustration. Votes will be counted by adding likes and retweets on both the Japanese and English Dragon Ball Official accounts.

Yamcha - and not Krillin - deserves the title of Dragon Ball's strongest human. Due in large part to his death at the hands of a Saibamen, Yamcha is often ridiculed as one of the weakest heroes in the franchise. This common perception of the Desert Bandit was reinforced by Dragon Ball Super, which saw the Z-Warriors exclude him from both the fight with Golden Frieza and the Tournament of Power.
The Dragon Ball franchise has few contenders for its post powerful human character. Tien could potentially be the Earthling with the highest power level, but it's important to note that he doesn't classify as a true human. Master Roshi made significant gains in Dragon Ball Super, but it's hard to say if he's managed to overcome the massive gap that separates him from Krillin and Yamcha. When it comes to the question of which is the strongest of the two,...

In Dragon Ball Z, Krillin has become associated with Senzu Beans by fans. However, he hasn't had nearly as many as they believe he might. The franchise's official social media page officially confirmed how many he has eaten relative to other characters in the series, and his low number will challenge fan perceptions about his strength.
On Twitter, Dragon Ball Official shared a character ranking detailing who has eaten the most senzu beans. Unsurprisingly, Yajirobe is at the top, having eaten dozens upon his discovery of them. This resulted in the group of fighters learning that eating too many results in great pain. Goku has eaten eleven, which is fitting considering how many intense fights he has gotten into and how many times he's had to save the world. Surprisingly, Krillin has only eaten three and a half in Dragon Ball, which seems rather low considering how much he is associated with them.
